[NEWS] 110131 KARA and JYJ: “Slavery” or “Betrayal”?

With the recent news of KARA’s contract negotiations, and JYJ’s “Music Essay” reaching #1, the debate between management companies and artists has once again become a hot topic, and this time both sides are speaking out.

Featured in a segment called, “JYJ and KARA, why did they do it?”, on MBC’s “News Magazine 2580” (시사매거진 2580), representatives from both sides spoke out, and Junsu and Yoochun themselves discussed their controversial decision and artists’ rights.

For one of the first times, Park Yoochun confessed that he fully knew that he “might never be able to be a star again” when he decided to leave SM Entertainment, but even with this realization, he still needed to “find happiness and leave.”

Kim Junsu, Kim Jaejoong, and Park Yoochun left their band, DBSK, and management group, SM Entertainment, in July of 2009, citing differences in regards to the length and terms of contract. The best known of these claims is SM Entertainment’s lack of transparency regarding group finances, and that the 13 year term of contract was far too long. However, the boys’ decision to leave and regroup as JYJ has not been a walk in the park, especially with them facing an unstated ban from popular music programs (SBS Inkigayo, MBC Music Core, and KBS Music Bank all declined to give statements or explanations).

Regarding this, Junsu said, “I think that it is very weird that we cannot appear on broadcast television. I learned that it truly is difficult for a Korean singer to perform on a stage, and it is what I resent most.”

[NEWS] JYJ’s Music Essay becomes Kyobo’s weekly bestseller

JYJ’s “Music Essay” has become Kyobo’s weekly bestseller!

The largest book retailer in Korea states that an overwhelming majority of JYJ’s “Music Essay” sales were from women in their 20’s and 30’s. To be more precise, Kyobo cited that 95% of its sales were from this group.

On their site, they accredit JYJ’s success to their enormous fan base and their participation in various activities. “Due to the members fandom and activities in dramas and musicals, their popularity can be seen by the huge amount of interest in them by the people in their 20’s and 30’s.”

[NEWS] Tickets for JYJ Junsu’s ‘Tears of Heaven’ sell out in 2.5 minutes

The third performance of JYJ Junsu’s musical, ‘Tears of Heaven’, sold out all 4,500 tickets in just 2 minutes and 30 seconds, proving once again his powerful influence over ticket sales.

For reference, the very first sale of 10,500 tickets were sold out in 5 minutes, the second round sold out 10,300 tickets in 3 minutes 30 seconds, and now this recent third round of ticket sales sold out in the fastest time yet. Regarding this happy event, Junsu expressed, “Thank you so much to the musical lovers and my fans.”

‘Tears of Heaven’ will be a massive production, as it brings together world talents like composers Frank Wildhorn (‘Jekyll and Hyde’), Gabriel Berry (‘Sweeney Todd’), and musical star Brad Little.

[NEWS] 110131 JYJ To Sing During The ‘Park Jisung All Star Match’ In Vietnam On June 15th

Park Ji Sung, who has announced his retirement from the national team, will open an all star match in Vietnam in June.
He will be joined by Jung Daesae of the North Korean national team and Japan’s soccer hero Nakata. The match will raise money to help budding soccer players in Vietnam.

[NEWS] 110128 Countless Fans Waiting For JYJ (Live At JYJ Music Essay “Their Rooms” Fanmeet)

The fanmeeting that was conducted for the release of JYJ’s music essay “Their Rooms-Our Story”, took place at KT Kyobo, Gwanghwamoon branch.

JYJ’s special music essay was released in offline book stores on 24 January and solely based on pre-orders only, they already rose to the top of the book sales charts, becoming a hot topic instantly. This music essay consists of real stories by the JYJ members as well as 6 self-composed songs. Included in this book are diary entries written by the JYJ members during this time, self-composed songs, as well as photos of their daily lives.

The JYJ members expressed, “The self-composed songs recorded in this music essay are all Korean songs, so they hold even more meaning. Because it contains our own stories, we feel really happy that we’re able to release it. This music essay consists of words that we want to say the most, as well as music that we wanted to compose the most. Every song is about our story, but the most meaningful thing about this album is that we can use it to express our true feelings to our fans.”

[NEWS] 110131 Japanese Fans Donate To Polio Patients For Jaejoong’s Birthday

To commemorate the 26th birthday of JYJ member Kim Jaejoong, Japanese fans donated 204,348 bottle caps.

These bottle caps were then exchanged for enough Polio vaccine for 250 people, and the fans were known to have collected the items for an entire year.

In addition, Japanese fans, who flew to Korea to attend the recent Lotte Duty Free fan meeting in Seoul, sang happy birthday to the star to celebrate his 26th birthday.

Jaejoong, who expanded his fanbase through his successful debut into the Japanese drama industry, was able to prove his unchanging popularity amongst Japanese fans through these events.

[NEWS] 110130 Han Ji Min: I Want To Star Opposite A Male Idol

Actress Han Ji Min has expressed that she would like to star opposite an idol-born actor.

During an interview with Edaily on the 27th, which was the release of the movie “Detective K” (directed by Kim Suk Yoon), Han Ji Min said, “Recently, I watched the acting of idol members and I was surprised.”

Up until now, Han Ji Min has always acted with older actors like Lee So Jin, Uhm Tae Woong and So Ji Sub in dramas as well as in this movie, with Kim Myeong Jin. Han Ji Min said, “In the past I learnt a lot about acting from actors who have an age gap with me and it was really fun, but now I want to try acting with younger actors.”

This is especially so when she watched the acting of idol-born actors Taecyeon (2PM) and Yoochun (JYJ), which she thought was very well done.

The event started with the 3 members coming up to stage to perform Empty. They came up the stage while dancing from the side stairs. The dance is very cool! Because the stage was tiny, when they were changing their formation, Yoochun & Junsu bumped into each other. Junsu was wearing razor jacket, Yoochun – all black, Jaejoong – blue jacket & denim. After that they brought a couch on to the stage. When they were saying that they would be sitting while talking, everyone suddenly sang happy birthday to JJ. Everyone said “Surprise” (?) while JJ was being shy.

Q: Any goal for this year?
YC: I still don’t know yet, but I want to be able to do activities in Japan.

When JS was being asked about his African volunteer project (T/N: Happy Bean Energy), he suddenly started coughing. JJ told him, “Drink some water!” It’s been a while since JS spoke Japanese so he was troubled a bit. JJ & YC were making fun of him. JJ was imitating his Kenyan joke and YC was lmao-ing.

JJ was asked how his birthday was. He said they had a party of about 30 people at a club he knows. JS came at 9pm, YC came after 11pm. He said that fans gave him too much alcohol that it could last him 10 years.

JJ said that it was the 3rd time that he had a birthday party, and YC said, “Then you’re only 3 years old?” lol~

Apparently the teaser to MBC’s special documentary on the current situation of the Korean Wave (with a special focus on idols’ disputes with their management) has just been released. People at the JYJ Daum Telzone board are expressing worry that it is biased toward big management companies. The ahjummas (and everyone else) are swearing that if the documentary misrepresents JYJ in any way, they will flood the MBS website and crash the server. Then, they’ll even consider a blanket boycott on MBC (they also threatened this for SBS when SBS delayed the Good Morning show, and because of that SBS was quick to say they would release all 80 minutes on 19th-20th Jan).
and In the end it was a very biased report. The ahjummas are FURIOUS…we’ll see how long MBC lasts…
