That’s why whenever the God (in the form of Jae) descends upon them, the whole world go bonkers and the scene is always like rioting!! hehe… But I’m guessing that JJ actually loves the rioting attention he gets from the Chinese fans~~ He shows it pretty obviously~~
Another thing some ppl might not know, he used to share a dorm with Hankyung (former SJ member), and they share a very special friendship which is famously known among Chinese SJ & TVXQ fans ~~ Due to this friendship, most of Hankyung’s loyal fans love Jae in return for his care for Hankyung, And I think that’s one of the reasons why he’s super popular in China and why he shows obvious love for Chinese fans~~

Oh yea I think I read something about how Hangeng and Jae became friends. Hangeng was surprised by Jae’s appearance at first and thought he was a cold person but later found out Jae was really funny and warm! ^_^ I wonder if they still talk……I hope they do!
Those trainee days~~~ The memories are good for both of them~~ ^^ Initially they communicate by holding a Chinese-Korean dictionary when they talk…. Hangeng also said before that JJ actively learn how to speak Chinese when they stayed together and had the best level of Chinese among the 5~~ Then later they used to look up recipes and cook together (same interest ^_^)~~ It is also known that whenever Hangeng got lost on the streets or can’t find his way home, he would call JJ and JJ would go and get him~ Coming from a relatively difficult background, JJ was also known to be thrifty, but he bought Hangeng a shirt back during those trainee days (he later bought another ring for Hangeng which he wears wherever he goes)~ Later, on one of the variety shows in their earlier days after debut, Yunho once attested to JJ & Hangeng’s strong friendship by protesting to JJ:” You took bath together with Hangeng before(not sure whether is the Korean public bath or at the bathroom in their dorm), why do you reject taking bath together with me instead?” That time JJ mentioned that he has slight mysophobia(obsession with cleanliness) therefore didn’t like taking his bath with others~~ hehehe……
I like all their stories (SJ & TVXQ) from trainee days becoz then they were poor and had no one else but each other to turn to… Friendships were mutual, simple and strong then~~
Not sure whether they still keep in touch or not nowadays, but I hope they do…. (Hangeng left SM too immediately after JYJ sued SM, he also won the lawsuit..) On the surface, it looks like Hangeng has changed quite a bit (bad change in my opinion) and seem reluctant to be associated with his former teammates anymore, but not sure how did his friendship with JJ has developed…. Hopefully they are still friends, coz friends from difficult days are precious for keeps~~

even my guy friend who is Chinese studying in the US knows DBSK and only recognize Hero name but not other member and he is not a fan. I mean Hero is obviously the most popular in China but a lot of Yunho’s fan think that Yunho is the most popular though. Delusional much.

You know what I notice and we all know this, is how popular Jaejoong is in Japan and China (maybe more so in the international fandom as well). But for some reason, ages ago, I get the impression that Yunho is more popular in Korea than Jaejoong. And now that I think of it, it’s because the way sm (or whoever) played their cards is by making Yunho seem very popular (esp in variety shows and how all the ladies love him). I don’t understand why Jaejoong isn’t given time to spend in variety shows, he is like the king of the shows, everybody loves him, all the MCs, everybody. But they always make it seem like Yunho is the most popular/most well-liked (although he is a pretty good story teller, even changmin who is usually quiet). I guess they wanted Yunho to be the ‘face’ and overall ‘manly’ impression on DBSK5.
p.s. I love your mixed-up dino-tree-bull-spider-eye monster… you’ve got a wild amount of multi-mixed monster race, LOL.

I think SM does not know how to promote JJ and his true potential, but Avex in the other hand promotes JJ very well. My love for him start to grow when he was in Japan.
I’ve actually noticed that as well! Not just in variety shows but if you look at their 2008 music performances (especially specials like MKMF, etc) the cameras focus disproportionately on Yunho. Even when other members were sing, the cameras were on him. I remember during the MKMF Mirotic performance when it was Junsu’s part to sing and to lead DBSK & backup dancers in the front but the camera kept cutting to Yunho.
My guess is they were trying to promote him more because JS & YC were always the most popular in Korea. But yeah, SM for sure plays favorites. Different members in same group get different treatment (look at HOT & Shinhwa).
The most popular in Korea has always been Junsu/Yoochun. xD THEN it was Yunho or Jaejoong, and then Changmin.
As for favorites…I think it was always Junsu? SM always trys prevent Jae from going on variety shows…That role usually goes to Yunho, since he’s the most careful one I guess(watches what he says). SM worries about what Jae would say since he’s the very straightfoward type. xD As they said, only around 2008 did SM finally release the lease they had on Jae…allowing him be himself on shows. -.-;

But the difference in numbers between yoochun and JJ is pretty staggering. JJ and Yunho climbing almost at the same amount of fans.
Junsu was the most popular with his cute dolphin image, while fans liked Yoochun for his “greasiness”? Lol.
During their TVXQ5 days the ranking was pretty much split into 3 rather than 5.
1- Junsu-Yoochun (More or less the same)
2- Yunho-Jaejoong (Almost exactly the same?)
3- Changmin
But the thing was…the most well known/popular shipped couple in KOREA was YunJae…O_o

I’m not talking about how popular they are… I was talking more on the attention and focus of sm on the boys..
Because YH was the leader and somewhat like sm’s spokesperson, sm do tend to focus more on him… see the amount of programs he had to attend..
For sure, JJ and CM were not high up on the list.
I always thought that SME’s favorites were Yunho/YooChun and Junsu to some extent. Back when they first started appearing in variety shows, Yunho and YooChun were that first ones to appear. Yunho being focused on a lot more than the rest of the members was a given since he’s the leader and was basically the representative of the group. For sure, Jaejoong and Changmin were in the back burner for variety show activities.
I think the reason why SME never promoted Jaejoong to the fullest was because of the image they gave him. He was suppose to be the cold, brooding, and quiet one. Plus the fact that his actual personality was blunt and straight forward. Cold face/image + bluntness = not a good combo. Also, I always felt that Jae felt a lot more comfortable being himself in Japan rather than Korea. In Japan, he seemed more laid back and less tense whilst in Korea he seemed guarded?

Nyway, however way u put it, SME’s promotional strategy is old fashion in many ways and is often slow to pick up new stuff.. it’s not so suitable for JJ (or YC & JS) coz he’s mind works a bigger picture and develops in leaps and bounds much too wild for SM to control (yes, SME is more about mind-controlling and dictatorship~)…. JJ needs a bigger space of development and I’m definitely liking him more than ever now!! ^O^
I understand why SME would be wary about Jaejoong and if he were able to portray his image or concept that was handed to him. But I’m sure people already know how blunt and random he is. And they were wary in the beginning but his recent appearance on shows have shown otherwise…. he was the talk of town, happy together, come to play, xman, etc. I am very sure that Jaejoong would have more popularity in Korea if his personality was shown more. But that’s exactly it, it’s this stupid concept the company is forcing on the boys. It’s ridiculous. No wonder JJ is much more like him in Japan.
In all honesty, I never really took much attention to him in the beginning, around 2008 that I came across dbsk. And I was attracted to Yunho at first, he was manly and he could dance well. Then Jaejoong came around and won me over. I guess this is a way for SM to redeem the ‘leader’ s role and not showcase the other members as much. But now that JJ has shown who he is, he is very different and much more likeable.

I think average Korean women likes manly guys, it’s the typical image that most Korean guys are expected to portray and they don’t allow themselves to be otherwise too ~ It’s a very male-chauvinistic society and still is~~ Maybe that’s why Yunho is more popular in Korea than anywhere else, he’s also got the leader image which is generally appealing to Koreans…. The androgynous image of guys and girls artists only became well-received and popular in Asia starting about 2006 but Korea’s entertainment scene was not so quick to catch on as compared to China and Japan (which has always have hardcore following for androgynous image) ~~ The androgynous image that specifically JJ & YC displayed the most, especially JJ, and the rise of BL (Boy Love) fictions is what I think make them more popular in other Asian countries than Korea~ Anyhow, I also believe JJ’s pleasing and mischievous character was also wat contributed largely to his popularity~~ Yunho’s slightly reserved and “squarish” inner character most probably didn’t appeal as much to Chinese and Japanese fans, therefore the lack of popularity….
Yeah but even so, Yunho wasn’t as popular as Junsu or Chunnie. Rather than the manly image, I think they went for the cute image (YooSu) around the TVXQ era. Now its “beast” idol’s era, so fans are taking to Yunho/Changmin’s image rather nicely.

He tried waaay to hard to be “perfect” and to say the right things in the right tone of voice and so on and so on. Yes, he’s a beautiful man but it’s impossible for me to like someone who was that boring (at least he was on camera). As much as Korean women might like the “manly” image, I imagine they get bored of just an image really fast. (I actually don’t think any of the DBSK boys really had a “manly” image until about 2008 onwards; their hair was usually too awful from 2003-2007 to look attractive! /bricked)
I remember reading that it was really Yoosu (particularly Yoochun in the beginning) that were wildly more popular than the rest of the members. Yoochun I can understand, he’s very classically handsome in a way Koreans like.

..about JJ being not so popular in Korea..first it was his cold image+don’t speak policy,second-leg injury(2005)-he could not participate in tv shows while YC.SU and YH where on tv(CM was too young),then also bad publicity-DUI (2006)he was then temporarily suspended from all TVXQ activities ,and year 2008 there where fancams with JJ and YC smoking(i think that was first time fancams about them smoking,not sure,but fans reaction was not very good)..

I remember asking my few fellow Japanese friends about JJ popularity in Japan. They say that Yoochun’s popular among Bigeast. Yoochun rank 1 and then Jaejoong (bigeast rank)…But in the Japanese public eyes, Jaejoong’s widely extremely popular even some of them don’t know that he was from THSK or JYJ and even non THSK fans know and like him…They like JJ personality and attitudes and of course his cuteness..^^…That’s why even Avex recognize him as the most popular among the THSK member.
I’ve always been really curious about that! I’ve also heard several times that Japanese people who don’t even know about THSK & JYJ will know who Jaejoong is. But if they don’t know Tohoshinki then how did they ever see JJ or learn about him? I know that him starring in SNN probably helped but even before then he was really popular.

Know about JJ from their son/daughter..lol…My friends said JJ fans in japan really..hm how to say this ‘wide’..from kids, to girl/boy to women and man,, aunts to uncle…. even to grandma and grandpa..(i laugh at this…but they said this really truth) the average of his fans really wide. .>_<…. few of them said, JJ already popular before SNN….^^……i remember my friend story..Back to 2007, she said her mum bought her magazine because JJ was on the front pages. Lol…She was surprise and even dont know her mother know about JJ. She asked her mother how did she know about 'Jejung'. Her mother said…your room full of his poster and even said 'Jejung' really good kid to her (Turned out that her mother also read some articles from intnt and magazine that she had..). From that day she share everything about JJ with her mom…..
for non THSK fan..well i asked this question too…this group know about THSK but eventually not THSK fans….they know THSK music, know some members names but not attached with them or their music….(One of my friend in this category. Saw only two THSK MV and listen to THSK bigeast radio program (only if JJ the DJ on duty..-_-..)…She just like the way JJ are. She said there's something about JJ drawn her to him…And she like JJ personality among THSK members. Because of that she find everything about him (ignore about the rest)..Boom…She become JJ fans.)

Actually, around 2007 and 2008, JJ bar frequently ranked No.1. Then some members of the management group of JJ bar set up new fan sites and attracked a lot of fans. Now there are Hey,JJ! MAZE, Jae Time ,ROCK JJ,and some other fansites with tens of thousands of members. Fans have too many sites to vist,so… JJ bar’s visting flow is not as big as before, but still the biggest among foreign group members.
Besides, BL(boys love) is not allowed to be talked in JJ bar. In JJ bar are fans who are attracked by JJ’s personal charm. So when talking about JJ bar’s ranking, someone mentioning about YJ fans is ridiculous.
