Asia’s Star JYJ, Their Tastes
The “Performances of a Lifetime” that Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, and Kim Junsu Picked.
It is said that if one cannot avoid it, then to enjoy the ride. The recent direction of JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, and Kim Junsu) is exactly like that. As soon as they gathered, without sparing a moment for a breather, they released their first world wide album “The Beginning” which they put in their own effort, and also has stepped out for a world tour in six months. Perhaps due to the inborn qualities and a long-term training, even if it is a short period they have not stepped out of line and is continuing their music activities smoothly. However, this direction which looks to be with ease form the outside is actually as fierce as a wild animal that fights for its survival with tooth and nail.
I met them on the past 3rd in Thailand in which they opened the doors of their World Tour. They seemed to be enjoying the composure that is available to those who have survived in that fierceness. The three members were dignified, stately, calm, and composed. The members joined each other in saying: “In fact, to release an album and then to tour the world was something that was tremendous to us. Because we were trying to do everything in a lacking situation we had to be very alert. If we lose our concentration for just a moment we can have everything that we have built up until now collapse. We are heading forward extremely carefully.”
The Thailand concert was a scene in which one could newly see the real side of JYJ. That all of the members show off a clear singing ability is “basic.” The ability that show a talent in composing, writing and creating is “necessary.” Kim Jaejoong’s directing ability that allows him to himself take the role of the executive director of the stage is “choice.” As much as this they poured out abilities that were varied and of different colors. Above all, the cooperation and harmony of the members who tightly united in their mentality was top-notch.
They who unbuttoned the first button of the World Tour. They seemed to be experiencing anew the taste for the performance as the tour progressed. Therefore, Interpark prepared—we were curious as to what are the performances that they like, who are the musicians who have affected their musical lives, and what are the songs that they are recently listening to. We guide you to their musical taste that is being revealed for the first time through Interpark.
The performance of my Life
Kim Jaejoong: “O” Show. There was a Las Vegas performance in the last American tour. Because I have a deep interest in directing I came to look into many performances. Among them, the “O” Show remains in my memory the most. One could say that it is the largest show that one can create on this earth because so much content that one could not even imagine poured forth. In particular, because of the large aquarium-style thearer, it was a performance that could only be seen in Las Vegas and so it was even more special.
Park Yoochun: Solid Concert. I remember it to be around 1996. The first performance we went as a family was to that of Solid. Solid was at the time such a skills-oriented group in R&B so that there was so much attractiveness within the performance itself. Above all because it was a performance that we saw together as a family it was more meaningful and stayed in my memory longer.
Kim Junsu: Beyonce’s Performance in Korea. I knew her singing ability and performing ability due to hearing of them so much, but when I saw her stage for myself it was really fantastic. When I saw it live, the performance that was more than my anticipated imagination was unfolding and so I was even more surprised.
Musicians that Influenced Them
Kim Jaejoong: Rodney Jerkins. He is a musician that I came to meet through last summer for the first world wide album of JYJ and is someone who is greatly influencing my songwriting works. From the attractiveness as a person who works on his songwriting with fun and pleasure to the abilities that enable one to feel a beat and tempo of his own, I think he is an amazing producer in many ways.
Park Yoochun: Cho Yongpil. Perhaps because I like the analog sensibilities, I listen to the LP of Lee Seunghwan or 015B. However Cho Yonpil is someone that I respect even more than that and would dare to have as a role model. That is because, fitting of the name “singer of the public,” he is a true musician who takes over the stage in emitting the heated energy.
Kim Junsu: Brian McKnight. I think that he may be the best musician in the R&B world along with Stevie Wonder. He influences when I sing and when I work on songs. There are many times in which I had a good idea while listening to his music.
Music Recently Being Listened To
Kim Jaejoong: Az Yet. I listen often the songs of Az Yet that were released in 1996.
Last night
Time to end the story
Every Little bit of my heart
Secret
Through My Heart (The Arrow)363954
I Don’t Want to Be Lonely
Park Yoochun: Park Jiyoon. The acoustic mood of the songs are perfect to listen nowadays.
You are like a tree
To the faded memory
Kim Junsu: Kanye West. After I finished the musical I am now embarking on the world tour as Xiah Junsu the singer, and I seem to listen to pop a lot when I rise on the stage. I put away the vocalization of the musical actor for a bit and to find the vocalization proper for a concert I listen to pop and R&B a lot.

The Music Videos I Found
Kim Jaejoong: Lady Gaga, “Telephone!” It is a great music video through which you can sneak a peek at the witty spark unique to her. As usual there are parts that shock and I really loved how many factors that allow ones to feel the appeal of the music video were directed to show sensually.
Park Yoochun: Michael Jackson, “Thriller.” I don’t think I need to say much since this is such a legend… but it is so excellent as to make one think, was this really a music video that was made in that era. The newest version of “Thriller” which is in the “This is It” DVD that he prepared before he left the world is also very shocking. Michael Jackon’s music videos were always the best and I think they are all “masterpieces.”
Kim Junsu: UV “Itaewon Freedom.” Isn’t this music video popular nowadays? The music video is really on the level of a legend and I think this is a performance by a cool team that has good abilities in many ways. The lyrics really come into your ears and the melody is also so great and I think the music video is also really funny and unique.
Omg!!! I LOVE the ‘O’ sh
Omg!!! I LOVE the ‘O’ show!! Loved it ever since I was a kid…. I think I’ve seen it like 6 times already and I don’t even live in the states hahaha. The soundtrack is amazing too!! I’m so happy JJ mentioned it, even more reason to watch it again the next time I’m in Vegas ^^
thanks for trans. jae, lady gaga nice^^ micky u right, thriller mv is legendary mv. su, u are right as well, that video is funny and unique. Also su listening to west is not surprising. Kanye West is douche but I gotta admit he does have music talent. I know some ppl do not like west or american music much….at least mainstream music but even me who doesn’t like kanye music, could at least admit to that.
The same with Chris Brown, he’s talented but….yike O.o
So surprised at Junsu listening to Kanye West lol. A lot of swearing in those songs hahaha. But other than that I gotta say JYJ as pretty good music tastes. I like that they are trying new things. That’s how to get inspired!!
OMG yeah! i was just thinking that! LOL especially Monster D: there’s some…freaky stuff in there XD
lol i can totally imagine him singing along with no clue what theyre saying 😀
Lady Gaga’s MV must have been very shocking for JJ. When do you c a woman covered with yellow tape in a korean mv?
You must have forgotten that our JJ is a ‘porn addict’ XD asdtrgyrui
He is?! I thought Changmin was the I guess porn “addict” LOL
yeah. as he said in their ‘White Day’ fan meeting in Seoul. XD
haha Oh man I wanna see that can you send me the link?? please haha JaeJoong such a perv haha LIKE A MAN!!
I want to see that 2, LOL
Really interesting perspective. So this is what they do/listen to in their free time.
Pfffffffts I just knew JaeJoong was watching Telephone. lol.
Oh my god junsu not you too, I have to endure listening to itaewon paradise every single moment of the day because my roommate is obsessed with that song, oh lord. But anyways, jyj has great taste in music, I see mj, kanye, brian flawless mcknight and beyonce in there. And I always know that jae is a gaga fan since that gaga concert he went with pi in Japan last time, still find it hilarious though. Never heard of some of them but the ones that I do know, can pretty much say that the boys have good music taste all around.
oh lol freedom not paradise
JYJ BOYS HAVE ALWAYS SHOW MORE OF THEIR SOUL. THESE BOYS ARE SO SMART, TALENTED, AND INSIGHTFUL. WE NEED TO KEEP OUR EYES AND EARS ON THEM TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR AWESOMENESS.
Hmm Gaga and JJ… didn’t see that coming 🙂 I wonder what he thought of the Judas video since he is into visual shock
You know that they were in a party ni Japan together right? ^^
I mean not TOGETHER-Together… but they were in that same party at teh same time… so maybe Jaejoong saw her there and well… he likes sexy women… hehehehe
ooo didn’t know that O.O
OMG Jaejoong listens to Az Yet too….ok now I am blushing. Everyone check out “Last Night” by Az Yet, you will understand what I am talking about.
♪I saw the sun, the moon, the mountains and the rivers, I saw heaven when I made sweet love to you♪
Oh snap, bad bad bad thoughts…(tries to erase Jae from my mind).
LMFAO!!!!!!!
LOL oh jae…
OMG I love “Last night”! and basically most of Az Yet songs lol Man I miss the 90’s T_T
^your not the only one,the 90’s had some of the best music; especially pure emotional expression.
hmmm…I thought I was the only one taking the time machine to listen to music. Maybe in the next 10 year, I will look back and listen to what is on now..lol
I love that song to death! It’s been my fav for years
I’ve seen Beyonce Live freaking AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.
Anywho.
I want to see the O show too 😦
Solid, is that an old Korean group? The guy that made the one group with the rapper from Micky’s song…grr it’s jumbled in my mind.
Cho Yongpil (googles) I love new stuff.
Brian McKnight, ♪ONE LAST CRY♪ I love that song and ♪Never Felt This Way♪.
Az Yet for real JAE? He listen to the throwback 90’s r&b groups too! Nice. He surprises me with who he mentions. He know more songs than me all I know is ♪Last Night♪ >”<.
Park Jiyoon, thank you Micky.
Su, Kanye for real? Name dropping selves. First it was Rodney…
Su listening to Kanye lol I like Kanye's recent album though.
I use to HATE Telephone but it became my stuff when the video premiered.
Oh snap Thriller, of course. That video still terrifies me…esp. the end lol.
UV “Itaewon Freedom.” (googles) I'm about to have fun with all the new artists I learned today.
Ooohh i see you there jaejae I see you~ First it was boyz2men’s I’ll make love to you now it’s last night by az yet? Yeaaaap. He’s probably dying to release his inner perv our jae baby ❤
And it looks like su and jae have similar taste from old school rnb to mainstream rap music (kanye west and lol tpain, I can never get over tpain) while chun seems to listen more to mellow music (fits his personality to a t!).
Jae needs a girlfriend…hopeless romantic.
If he doesn’t have one already ;p LOL but yes, boy deserves some lovin’ plus people do say that when you’re in love you make the best music~
Mmm HMMM! ^_^.
*nods head.*. he’s choice of music is screaming sensual!
lol jeje likin gaga <333 i wonder what he thought of gaga's poker face mv since she filmed it at the house they filmed miduhyo at 😀
Jae and lady gaga!!! this is more shocking than the mv !!!! he is unpredictable ^^!
Watched/listened to some things for the first time ever. I don’t listen to western music anymore O____O
Jaejoong’s Picks
The “O” Show
WOW that looks so cools! If Jaejoong could learn how to make those effexts I would be so so happy and impressed!
Next Last Night By AZ Yet
IF YOU ARE A MINOR DON’T LISTEN TO THIS
But wow they have good control of their voices *____*
Time to end the story

I Don’t Want to Be Lonely
Jaejoong’s old soul is showing… OLD… hehehe… Pun intended… wow~! AzYet… I thought I was mistaken… hehheh… but it’s cool… I’m a nineties baby… I wish… ahhahah
I really want Junsu to hear the original Tagalog/Filipino version of The Sorry Song from Brian McKnight… I mean… *squeals* I really WANT him to hear it! Brian and Martin Nievera wrote that… And it’s the ONLY Tagalog song Brian McKnight ever sang~
I must say I am very disappointed they like these kind of people. Lady Gaga and Kanye West just disgust me to no end. Yes they have musical talent but I do not think they are good people. I don’t care if you have musical talent if you’re loose and/or a douche bag. You don’t deserve that talent. They do nothing but have a horrible influence on the youth and society and give America a bad image. I wish they had better taste >< Don't get me wrong I still love JYJ and I think the world of them but I think their taste in mainstrean American music could be better, like Switchfoot or Skillet. Brian Mcknight is a good one though.
How is either one of them loose o.0?
And lady gaga a bad influence???! I’ve never really heard that one.
I guess cause she’s one of the biggest youth helpers for LGBQT and people who want/do live outside the norm…
On kanye I guess everyone has their opinions of him.
far gaga she is rude, impolite, obnoxious, loud, dresses slutty, and focuses way too much on sex. It is fine to be your ownself and to the an indivual but she takes it to the extreme. People have got to realize that not everyone is going to like who you are and that is life. You can’t force people to accept you. She also has this attitude that the teens really don’t need to copy off of. As a whole the teens do not have enough respect for their elders and those in charge of them. Alot of the songs she sings is in no way appropriate for underaged. This music video proves it. Would you ever let your kids or those you look after watch this stuff or listen to songs with cursing or talking about sex?
I like Switchfoot.
to sometimes but
and don’t mind other two that disgust you.
Yes Kanye makes my eye roll sometimes
and Lady Gaga I go
hey…ppl like what they like.
I believe that one thing doesn’t define a person.
I hope you won’t allow their like for these artist
alter how you ‘think’ of JYJ.
I like both Switchfoot and Skillet, but I don’t expect even some of my American friends to know who they are. And while I agree that Kanye can be… Kanye… and Lady Gaga might be really in-your-face, they do have really popular songs.
I think JYJ is listing artists who they not only enjoy listening to, but would also like to emulate, to an extent. Az Yet and Brian McKnight have the awesome voices and soul, Kanye and Gaga have the hit songs, and our angsty romantic Chun has Park Jiyoon to make him all melancholy ^^.
Goodness JYJ better not try to ever be like Kanye West or Lady Gaga. Ever.
There’s to no need to worry about that ^^ I still am a big fan of JYJ and I admire them greatly. I just am disappointed they like this stuff. I thought they were better than that. One can be disappointed in someone but still have a great love for them. It shows that JYJ is human. ^^ And if one can love someone in spite of disappointments that shows love I think. Oh goodness it sounds like I’m praising myself and calling myself the ultimate fan. Please don’t think that! Oh that would be bad! >< But do you kow what I mean?
I agree with your opinion. I found AZ Yet Musically really good…..I can’t like gaga or kanye though.
Tried to listen to their music but…..its not my cup of tea
Well that’s why I stopped listening to American music…..
I could honestly not watch the video of Lady Gaga……..=___=
Too much sluttiness.
I wish JYJ brought the true Korean or ‘Asian’ culture to America. The one where you love your parents and respect your elders and work hard to achieve your dreams. The one where people protect your chastity and don’t let you throw your naked self at everyone because they deem it inappropriate. The one that still is trying to run on the ideal society Confucius thought out. The one where family values run deep but there is still justice.
d-age homes because their children don’t want to provide for them financially anymore. Or the kids who receive no love from their parents because their are too many single-parent homes or both parents are working. Where adultery is the norm. Where people fill their pockets with money and worldly objects but can never seem to get enough. Where democracy is so valued but the government is a lie…..they lie during campaigns and after they are elected so there is very little point in voting.
sorry I was editing my post and accidentally clicked reply. Ignore my last paragraph. It was a whole bunch of criticism of the Western world namely America…..but I didn’t want to offend hardcore patriots.
Maybe this is a topic I will start in the general discussions section one day.
@phoenixia
I feel you Sweetie. & yet according to a documentary I watched recently, China is now going through it’s own ‘sexual revolution’ – much of the East is following the standards set by the West. & unfortunately, culture & country doesn’t matter, there is abuse, greed & exploitation everywhere. As Jae’s tattoo say’s “The pleasure’s of the mighty are the tears of the poor.” & it’s been that way ever since ‘civilization’ began. I think it’s why so many of us are so passionate about JYJ’s legal battles. Whether our own lives have been personally affected by it or not, we’re tired of corruption & are trying to help bring about change, even just in small ways.
Well, it’s the Aquarian age of Enlightenment, so maybe we stand a chance, but we’ll never know if we don’t keep fighting for change. (PS: Jae’s an Aquarian too btw!)
MJ “This is it”..is awesome…
JYJ boys have a very good taste for music. Michael Jackson, Beyonce Knowles, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Brian McKnight, Rodney Jerkins………….
I love Michael Jackson’s Thriller too.
Junsu listens to Kanye? Good (musical) taste. I mean, Kanye is like the douche of all douches but you can’t deny his musicality. I’m not really into hip-hop but he’s the only one I listen to in that genre.
Just proud to be JYJ’s fan & JYJ’s Family….They are priceless !!!
Thanks YC ❤ for recommending Park JiYoon songs… *mind's in a relaxed mode now*
haha…
Jae is screaming out loud “I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED A GIRLFRIEND” with those kind of choice in music XDDD
No wonder he increase the number of females dancers in JYJ USA world tour LOL
And everyone thought he was a shy boy lol……….
Oh our Jae=forever random and 4D! 😀
Your music likes(or dislikes for that matter) should not define who you are as a person. JYJ are polite, sincere, gentlemanly, funny, loving and generous; that should be enough to show you who they are!
JYJ FIGHTING!!!
junsu is a devoted korean music lover LOL.. jae and chun picked foreign artists while su almost picked korean artists (except kanye LOL)..
and jae.. why pick lady gaga? she’s a.. you know~
