First, Sohn Yeonjae’s solo performance. Beautiful ^__^
[1:31] Mr. Kim Jaejoong of JYJ has directed this first gala show of Miss Sohn Yeonjae—from the selection of the music, the chogreagraphy, costumes, to the styling.
Second, we hear “Empty” for the first time on Public TV!!! T__T… This is K3– members of the National Team– and their joint performance.

contemporary music induced in rhythmic gymnastics , gives us a breath of fresh air (as per Jae)
the gymnast and the director have a bright future I guess…
I really liked the lighting and colors used. I felt Jaejoong a lot in the stage ^____^ I likes the music soundtracks too!
I think the only reason Hoot was used was because of the desires of the ‘broadcast’ stations…..as a director JJ has to listen to their input too =____= (But I do feel Hoot is too overused all over the place (aka dramas etc.)) But I also watched a performance of SNSD’s at some university campus and their male fans were singing along to the chorus like an army song and I guess I saw the appeal for the male fans.
I wish they allowed Jaejoong to SC the singing talents of JYJ too when the small part of Empty was played.
LOL I wouldn’t be surprised if Jaejoong was a fan of ‘Hoot’ himself.
Why not???
Jaejoong never had any problem with any SNSD members or any SME artists in that matter. Nor he had a problem with the music. It’s the management and the company that they are fighting with.
The fact is, he go to support Jessica on her musical debut right in the middle of lawsuit.
There are many songs that are famous right now. Hoot is already an old song by korean standard.
And I remember JJ say himself about inserting a girl group songs in the middle of the gala.
For me, it shows that Kim Jaejoong let his personal feeling aside and give Sohn Yeon Jae all the best. It is Kim Jaejoong being professional. Even “empty” are not play on full song, he only use it as a bridge cause he may feel that it doesn’t go with the flow.
I never said JJ has a problem with SNSD members. Why would he have a problem with them. They seem like really nice girls.
Even the ‘friends’ who left him or said bad things about his member or their group……he has probably forgiven them and let it go. It is only fans who don’t let those people off the hook (for example Boa…..I am not a boa fan btw)
And I know about the Jessica and Jaejoong friendship. I hope they are still friends….even with the whole SME controlling mess. I don’t know much about SNSD but those girls seem sweet (aka they never say anything bad about anyone else or are damn cocky (unlike another SME groups members))
The only reason I believe he himself, might not have used an SME song is because ………..basically SME is their enemy. That doesn’t mean his friends in SME are their enemies but the company itself and the administration. If he promotes the companies songs isn’t he promoting the company? This is why I think broadcasting stations or the other directors requested this song
But seriously this is all wacked speculation on my part. Who knows maybe JJ has even forgiven the lame company because his heart is so big TT____TT
I luv her performance, outfit and everything. I luv how Jae could have use only JYJ musics on the last performance but no he uses hoot and others as well. Well done . Heheh
born this way – what a frickin amazing show!!!! wish the speakers would shut up tho
I wish the speakers would shut up too lol
really good job,MR Director JJ !!
¡AMAZING, DIRECTOR KIM, EXCELLENT! And you used your beloved Lady Gaga’s “Born this way” for Ms. Sohn solo; BEAUTIFUL.
And you used Empty music too. You’re simply a genius. Beauty in movement. ¡WONDERFUL! Congratulations Director Kim.
Yeah !!! Congratulation Director Kim ….Great works !!!
Now, THIS gymnast/dancer is beautiful to watch, she’s gorgeous and her costume is great too. Why can’t the boys have female dancers more like her?? Her moves are sensual too but in a graceful, classy way. Excellent job, to Son Yeon Jae and Director Kim!
I hope you’re not implying that JYJ’s female dancers during their world tour were unclassy. 😦
@archie
Well, in a way I guess I was. Sorry, just my opinion, of course. Their moves tended to be very over-the-top muscular and kind of chick/macho, IMO. (kind of hard to describe–apologies) It wasn’t my preferred dance style for women. Needless to say, your results may vary.
🙂
This is a touchy subject with me, but I respect your opinion. It bears reminding, though, that the dancers were given guidance in style & dancing by both the choreographer and Jaejoong. Basically, most of the dancers’ actions that looked like they lacked class to you may very well have been recommended by Jaejoong in the first place.
@archie
“Basically, most of the dancers’ actions that looked like they lacked class to you may very well have been recommended by Jaejoong in the first place.”
OMG I really know that! I’m expressing my own personal opinions here. I know that Director Kim signed off on everything having to do with the production. I think all 3 guys loved having the women in the show. It’s just personal taste, which will always vary, no matter the topic.
She’s also barely out of adolescence. Having girls like her interact with the guys would be on the creepy side. I much prefer women 5 years their senior than girls 5-7 years their junior on the stage with them.
Unless of course you are criticizing the choreography and costumes, which really is not an issue with the dancers but with the director and the show concept.
I don’t want an athlete to become a dancer. I am sorry…….they are two different professions. A gymnast has to train many hours just to bend like they have no bones. They don’t do it to become backup dancers for singers.
The purpose of a backup dancer is to make the ‘artsits’ performance on stage even more magical….it is not to showcase themselves. That is why they work for an artist.
The purpose of a gymnast is to showcase their own talents.
I seem to be coming off as though I am degrading a dancers profession. I don’t mean to so i will ass onto my post.
A dancer also has to train a lot to be able to perform like they do. But for both career choices it depends on the route the individual wishes to take. For example a dancer can focus on one’s career as a dancer of dance for singing groups or as a part of other performances.
A gymnast may also focus on ones own career but could also be a part of a group…..for example like a circus performer.
It depends on the route they choose to go.
“.for example like a circus performer” — ah, that remind me of Cirque du Soleil. Love them!
@Puti
Jaejoong went to see “O” while in Las Vegas. Between that and this gala, he might look to try something different in the next tour (The sweat isn’t dry from this one and I’m already planing the next one for them. 😀 )
“Why can’t the boys have female dancers more like her?” — because we do not have many dancers like her, that’s why.
Yep, I think our boys should us Asian back-up dancers instead. Not because U.S dancers are not good, they’re just not fit.
they did for the first half of the world tour. It’s nice to see something different. I think when JYJ collaborate with the Slaughterhouse crew, it will help them entering the USA market a lot easier because people view them as accepting the different cultures and willing to try out new things. Asian or American dancers, I think they both did a splendid job.
@goodday123
“I think when JYJ collaborate with the Slaughterhouse crew, it will help them entering the USA market a lot easier because people view them as accepting the different cultures and willing to try out new things.
Well, I’m going to have to disagree with you there, because I don’t think JYJ needs to do anything of the sort to “get over” with American and western audiences and in a way it’s kind of a transparent move which could be taken by some as somewhat of a naive gesture to gain appeal with western audiences. And they are better than that–much, much better. They may not even KNOW how good they are, compared to the junk that is currently filling American stages! But we do, and I do and ALL they need to do is keep writing great songs, keep learning English and keep coming back to the U.S.. That’s it.
No, no, and NO again.
For American Audiences, they have to see someone who looks like THEM on that stage in order for them to feel comfortable with an artist and to even feel like they’re trying to appeal to them.
If the stage is full of nothing but Asians from the singers to the dancers, JYJ is gonna be written off by the vast majority of the country as a asian group for asians. Asians make up a rather small part of the U.S. population so JYJ cannot just depend on them to make it here if they ever do decide to try to debut in the U.S.
Diversity is KEY.
it was just my opinion, we all know that JYJ are good as well as many different kpop groups such as wonder girls, rain, se7en, they all have tried US market but i’m not sure about the result yet. I’m just saying, it may be a good benefits for JYJ to work with other people from different countries as well and learn from them. Who knows along the way, the people that they work with will help them with promoting like Jeri Slaughter who is the director of the US world tour, he is a famous figure who have direct different concerts and long with his dancers, some are famous such as Staci. I live in the USA too and I know that even though music here are not a smooth in my ears as Kpop, Americian singers are earning and have world wide recognition much better than kpop artists.
@bmw81187
“For American Audiences, they have to see someone who looks like THEM on that stage in order for them to feel comfortable with an artist and to even feel like they’re trying to appeal to them.”
Hmmm. Then how do you explain….. ME. I’m an American, I’m Caucasian and I don’t need anybody to look like me in order to enjoy their music, not when they are of the caliber and massive charisma of JYJ. So… there’s that.
Now I’d LIKE it if the guys spoke english. But it’s not necessary and I’ve been doing fine not understanding a word they’ve said until I found lyrics online. That was nice. But that did not alter their basic, amazing appeal one iota. JYJ is a one in a million group. They ARE like U2. They can be. But this means they may have to up their world-class sophistication factor little by little, which I think they will do.
I’m not worried about that, believe me. As I’ve said so so many times before, NOTHING is going to stop JYJ.
@goodday123

Yes, I’m sure they will get a lot of advice from a lot of different people (but, boy is that ever a double-edged sword–the more advice they get the more conflicting opinions and the more confused they will get.) and I really hope you didn’t take offense to anything I said earlier because no offense was intended. I think (and remember, please, it’s just my opinion) that as the members grow as writers and artists, as they continue to tour here and as they become better at english, everything will fall into place. Yes, they’ll get people’s advice along the way, but please remember that these are 3 very seriously creatively driven artists who have definite ideas about everything. They will only become more so and to suggest diluting their unique sensibilities somehow to make them skew “less Asian” would be a disastrous thing, I think. There’s nothing wrong with being Korean! Please, give world-wide audiences a chance. They’ll see.
I like seeing something different too!
¿American dancers don’t fit where or with whom? I just want you to clarify. ¿Are we going to start imposing differences between ethnicities and nationalities? I hope this isn’t a matter of jealousy. Please explain.
The Beginning album has a concept “WHEN EAST MEETS WEST”, and it’s a good experiment to blend-in different races on one stage, and for me JYJ with the American dancers is a good combination, something new, something challenging ( seeing black, american and asian white, different body structures) maybe some are not yet used seeing this kind of combination so they say as “not fit”. For me it’s interesting and refreshing.
Agree.
To be honest, I like their US dancers better. When I compared the performance between JYJ US and Asian dancers, I noticed that the US dancers are very clean & powerful in their dance moves (both male and female) and they help to make the overall performance look better. But, I don’t mind jyj using whatever dancers they want it’s not a big deal for me.
I think what people didn’t like about the American dancers was the amount of intimacy that was displayed on stage, but as someone has already said they were DIRECTED to dance and behave this way. When watching songs like pierrot or the fast songs I agree with you I liked the American dancers better, they had more confidence and style when dancing. I don’t think American dancers are better than Asian dancers but I feel that these dancers knew JYJ and the material so they were comfortable with what they were doing. As for the fit comment what exactly about them wasn’t fit? You don’t have to be bone thin or Asian to be a good dancer for JYJ. I have a feeling this is going to be something JYJ will have to address because I’m sure more fights like this are bound to break out.
I agree…They performed well with strength. Their lines are beautiful both males and females…
Not to take things away from Korean dancers, I like the choreography of females for JJ’s and YC’s solos better. It showed intimacy and engagement…although, at some point I don’t understand the concept, lol..’I Love You (all)’.
As JJ said in the interview, this concert tour was gonna be more sensual..so I think they achieved that…
For the outfit that some ppl seem to have a problem with, well, these seem to be a uniform for female dancers lately, if you’ve seen other artists’ performance; Ne-Yo, Gaga, Britney, for example…
sorry if i offend anyone but i don’t like races being talk like how the US dancers don’t fit our JYJ. race and ethnic is a very sensitive issue. But of course we have our own preference and the pros and cons using variety environment but just don’t talk it in a negative way.
The performances were beautiful the dancers were very graceful and appeared to almost float on air. But, really why are some of you still comparing American dancers with rhythmic gymnasts; these are who different fields. Just as gymnastics is divided between artistic gymnasts; whoms routines are divided among Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercises. While rhythmic gymnastics combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation a majority of the routines are based on leaps, balances, pirouette, flexibilities, apparatus handling( ball, ribbons. ropes, clubs and oops) and artistic effect. Stop comparing the different fields of overall dance and gymnastic because you were comfortable about the shape of the dancers or the style the dancers were performing as it was said before JYJ had to sign off on the dancers before they were performed if they had a problem with it, they themselves would have addressed it. Again these are adult men in their mid 20s get over it.
agree
@Ail221
Thank yu sis. Thumbs up.
Sorry, you…..
I am glad I am not alone with this issue.
Thank you.
@ail221
” But, really why are some of you still comparing American dancers with rhythmic gymnasts; these are who different fields. ”
Oh, yes, yes of course I understand that. What I was trying to say (and was probably just doing it badly) was that there was a pleasing sinuous aesthetic to the feminine quality of the movements in the gymnastic show that FOR ME, IMO, sorry to offend others, no wish to do it, not intended, was largely not there with JYJ’s dancers. Whew! This topic may be too strenuous for me. I think I need to go lie down.
its wasnt only your comment, this is my general rant for the day. Yes of course i am a fan of JYJ and I have been for years so sure i understand the jealousy that sparks up inside of us from seeing “our boys” dance with women but i understand the difficulty of both the dance field and the gymnastics field and its unfair to compare dance with rhythmic gymnastics and gymnastics. You point a feminine aesthetic well a feminine isnt only graceful, soft, innocent or sweet…it can sensual and sexual; feminine is defined in many ways so you can use, the excuse these gymnasts had more of a feminine quality to their movements. Many of the young women in rhythmic gymnastics are in their teens ranging from 14-18 while the american dancers were closer to JYJ’S age, ranging from 24-32 not even taking into the account of the different body frames between ethnicities your comparing two different group of women, a 14-18 can project the same kind of sexuality on stage as some one in their mid-late 20’s.
@ail221
Understood, understood. I wasn’t suggesting innocent young girls as replacements for the Slaughterhouse Crew. lol I was saying that, for me, the choreography of a far more graceful and less in-your-face tough-chick nature would be preferable. That’s all. Personal choice. Sorry, ladies, I’m not going to argue with you. You enjoy what you enjoy seeing, I enjoy what I enjoy seeing.
🙂
LOL..sis too eally for sleep…agree and disagree are very nomal in here right…!! hope you stay around with us..heheh
@lilibaiyu The problem with your statement was that you said they should use Asian dancers over American dancers. Why didn’t you just say that they should have the dancers dance less sexually? It can be taken very badly when you say that American dancers can’t be pleasing sinuous or give off a aesthetically feminine quality. They weren’t told to dance that way so its not fair to just right them off because you didn’t like the sexualness of the way they were asked to perform.
@T-sierra
“The problem with your statement was that you said they should use Asian dancers over American dancers. ”
I’m sure I didn’t say anything about American vs Asian dancers per se. (I think that might have been someone else, actually.) Because of course you are right it’s not about ethnicity, ever. I was talking about dance style and overall body image and I was talking about my preference. I hope nobody thinks I said one is “right” and one is “wrong.” Finally, I have no problem with sensual moves in dance. In my opinion though there’s a wide gamut of sexy dance moves. My taste tends to run to the more fluid and graceful variety.
agree!
agreed!
Thank You
THUMBS UP!
Childish comments from JYJ-ers abt the dancers. I am disappointed in you girls.
Anyways, this is very well done.Good Job Director Kim!
Yeah, maybe it’s childish comments, but because of it, I got more knowledge about dancers, gymnast and such ^_^ Thank you JYJ Family
Lol well as long as smth good came out of this I’m happy.^_^
I feel the same as you…
I really liked the JYJ tour dancers!! I think that part of the show gave them… well, made the fans accept they are men, men in their middle 20’s. Men that like to have sex! like all the people!!
*sighs*
unfortunately, i’d have to nod my head with you…
though we are free to say here what we want, as i have been sayin time and again for the umpteenth time… THINK AND BALANCE YOUR WORDS BEFORE POSTING SO U DONT OFFEND ANYONE.
and that is the simplest way to do it…
if you’re to emotional abt the topic, BREATHE FIRST THEN CALM DOWN, THEN THINK AND BALANCE YOUR WORDS BEFORE POSTING SO U DONT OFFEND ANYONE.
And once more I know I will be ignored because people generally dont like sermons…
*SIGH*
Now, that is a show…. the most amazing??? The sense of music to make a gimnastic rutine something so delighful as any musical coreography… waht a pleasure see atlhetic bodies guided by Jaejoong’s musical perspective….
I for one love all the dancers JYJ has worked with. Fans want to put JYJ in a BOX that is what they feel their personal preferences are. I LOVE that JYJ are breaking out of the box. In the future I would like to see more collaborations with different races. So far JYJ has done Chinese, Korean, Japanese, English, African American, etc. In the future it would be awesome if JYJ could dance with Middle Eastern dancers too. The style of dancing is different but they have amazing performances too!
Don’t forget south americans! ^_^
ya.. Latin dance !!!
Ohgodthatwouldbesohot! *is ded*
junsu hip latin dance XD
Oops sorry latin dancers too! And lets just add Russian for the heck of it 😀
(I don’t know much about Russian dance though X____X)
@phoenixia
wow Middle Eastern dancers!…can you imagine JYJ will have belly dancing in their stage, that’s too exciting! Most of our dance schools now are offering belly dancing, aside from ballet, jazz and hiphop.
Are you being serious? …comparation between dancers *sigh*
I´ll ignore all the drama and celebrate the amazing work of Director Kim!
I loved see Sohn Yeonjae’s solo performance… It was beautiful! The costume, the music… Ah! She really shined! ^_^
And the K3 performance… Amazing! These girls are talented! n_n
Ah, by the way I´m the only one who recognised the four girls/women in black aka. the korean dancers of JYJ 😀
Lovely performance by Sohn Yeonjae.This young lady has great stage presence. Loved her costume, staging and lights. Director Kim is putting a fresh face on Rhythmic gymnastics!
I liked the performance but I was not feeling the music, it could be because the commentators never shut up or because I really dislike lady gaga .__.
WOW… and i thought this was supposed to be a post about LG-Whisen and about how jae directed the gala…
love the performances~ PPL GO SEE ANNA BESSONOVA’S =DDDDDDDDDDDDDDD SHE’S STILL THE SAME SINCE THE OLYMPICS~ my comments about JYJ dancers i don’t give a damn whether they’re americans or asians i like them and hope to see more of them == but i hope some fans won’t go so low to call those US dancers “sluts” or “fat” cause they’re doing their job only as a PROFESSIONAL DANCER and they’re not fat but have muscle and they have CURVES! they’re proud of their body and they’re confident in it~ so do your part as a JYJ fan and stop calling other ppl fat, slut just because they have “intimacy” with the boys == fans should remember IT IS ONLY FOR SHOW! the end =) BTW I SO LOVE THE OTHER PERFORMANCE JAW DROPPING AMAZING!
i m confused about this show..
which part jj directed? only Son Yeon Jae’s part or all of k3’s solo part too?
*CLAP, CLAP, CLAP*
SO PROUD, PROUD, PROUD.
WHAT EVERY ONE HAS POSTED UP HERE DESCRIBES MY WORDS.
jUST LOVE IT.
…MY WORDS AND FEELINGS. YEAH~
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, that girl is TALENTED!
Awesome! Makes me want to do it.
Omg the second video. Empty yay!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i enjoyed other performances as well and i’ve to said though seon yon jae is awesome, my personal favorite is evgenia kanaeva’s, not just because her ribbon color of course xD
thanks to jaejoong, i’ve now experienced another type of culture… keke
