A Story about JaeJoong’s healing voice (by livingfree on JYJ3)
Just wanted to share a personal story—-I work w critically-ill young patients (from premature infants to babies of about a year old) and often they are in a lot of pain (because of the illnesses & medical treatments). As a big believer in music therapy (due to my frustrated music education background), sometimes I’ll play soft music (usually classical or lullabies) to soothe them. It actually worked fairly well since they used to give me some of the difficult (translation: crabbiest, impossible to calm) babies that others could not handle. I even compiled a list of my favorite classical music for work that I’ve judged as “most effective” for them. Talk about music soothing the savage beasts 😀
About a year ago, I started to play some quiet DBSK5 and JYJ ballads instead (more for my own enjoyment than anything) and to my surprise, the babies calmed as quickly as they do to classical music. Upon closer analyzing and testing, I discovered that the “most effective” calming songs are either JJ-solos or songs where JJ dominated in singing parts. The most extreme examples included when I had a baby going through severe narcotic-withdrawal (think “cold-turkey” for a heavy drug addict) that we were trying to wean off the drugs. Poor mite was inconsolably screaming his head off for hours, his nurse was tearing her hair out almost in tears herself and everyone around said their nerves were shot and frustrated at their inability to calm him despite taking turns holding him the whole day. After doing what I needed to do task-wise, I turned down the lights, turned on my JJ music on low and just held him—within less than 30minues he fell asleep and stayed soundly asleep the rest of the night even through his feedings and diaper changes. When I returned the next day, I heard that he slept till mid-morning but they actually had to re-up his narcotics to calm him once he woke up (since they could not calm him again) about 6 hrs after I (and JJ’s music therapy) left. Another similar case happened involving a baby girl that was inconsolable due to colic and just “demonish crabbiness” (as my colleagues dubbed it)—-since I was free for the early part of the shift, I volunteered to help and basically did the same thing with her as I did with the other boy, i.e. lights down, turn on JJ music and
held her on my lap. Within 15mins, she fell asleep and stayed so after I put her down till next morning.
Its always funny to me when other nurses/doctors will peek into my rooms and say “I can’t believe how quiet your babies are. What music are you playing to them? He has a really beautiful voice. ” or “Her babies are always quiet. Nice music, btw.” Apparently, it’s JJ’s “healing voice” that the sick babies are responding to. Needless to say, I’ve compiled a much-used JJ songs for work and for myself (when I’m feeling down and needs some comforting myself). So no matter what happens, on behalf of my sick little patients, I’m grateful for Jaejoong’s (and JYJ’s) beautiful music.

i always thought my baby sister is the only one. She’s used to being carried and would wail without fail whenever she’s put down. one time i had to sit her down in one of her ‘fits’, coincidentally while playing a dbsk ballad (later i found out that her favorites are ‘Begin’ and ‘Forever Love’). and she calmed down instantly. i thought it was only a coincidence but then i noticed that she would indeed calm down and gurgle happily whenever she hears their songs lol.
and a few days back when In Heaven’s mv was released, i sat her on my lap infront of the computer and we watched it together and lol, let’s just say she found herself a new favorite song to listen to. xDDDD

I love the three of them with all my heart, no matter who I like the most. They’re a unit; all for one and one for all. And together they make my heart come alive again each time I heard them singing as JYJ.
Ok, apparently I totally missed the whole shebang as it was going down. Not really regretting it though since there is enough negativity against JYJ that we really don’t need anyone (including ourselves) adding to it putting the boys down either as individuals or as a group,
Why can’t folks understand that they are each equal but simply different, member of this trio? How boring and one-dimensional JYJ will be if they are all alike? Instead, I sincerely feel that they are complete as a trio simply because they challenge yet complement each other w their individual uniqueness.
Personal bias or no, when you diminish one, you weaken all 3. And by doing so, you also weaken the foundation of our JYj fandom. Look a the big picture please: The Greek armies are already waiting at the gates—-tell me, are you (a supposed JYJ-fan) going to be the one to let in the Trojan horse?

I just want to clarify that the purpose of the post was not meant to offend anyone, and that I might have chosen the wrong words to describe it, but it’s more or less my opinion.

I also apologize for sharing my thoughts out loud without considering that it might cause some sensitivity.
However, I would like to add that as an open forum, everyone has the right to express his/her thoughts, if some other members fans were to come and express similar thoughts of mine, I really wouldn’t feel offended at all, & will not even reply to that, & it has happened before.
I’m fully aware that at this time unity of the fandom is more important, and can see why my words could have resonated badly with some people.

Well, since I missed reading your comment and all the others that responded to it, I’m not going to sit in judgement of what you stated or how it was perhaps (mis)interpreted to be. However, I DO appreciate your trying to explain your words and accept accountability for the unfortunate outcome—-you seem sincere in you apology and I certainly respect that.
Indeed, it can be tricky sometimes trying to communicate issues here with enough neutrality, since our uniquely diverse (age/gender/cultural) fandom carries raw wounds for many and is also still trying to find its footing.
I’ve lurked here since the very beginning and only started speaking out recently myself for fear of unintentionally offending or hurting others with my careless thoughts.
However, 1 thing I’ve come to appreciate about this wonderful fandom and JYJ3 family here is that though they are humorous (spazzing or being snarky), intelligent (sharp, logical with little tolerance for BS or hypocrisy), protective as mother bears, VE sisters (or the elected mother-hen) and tough-as-nails (take-no-prisoner style ninja warriors) —–the people here are also amazingly understanding, tolerant, mature and forgiving (unless the wrong was deliberate).
So IF it was an honest mistake and a genuine misunderstanding caused by carelessness of words uttered (I’m sure you won’t make THAT error again!), I really hope you will stay on. After all, this family has room for EVERY person that truly care about and for JYJ,ne? Peace to you.

Hi everyone! I’m off work today so I’m going to try and share some old and hard-to-find vids of the JYJ boys.
Disclaimer note:— Unfortunately, some are in old DBSK5 vids (sorry but I really lack the tech skills to try and cut only the parts with our 3 guys. So please bear wit me and just try to ignore the “irrelevant” folks on the vids, ok?
I’ve pretty much grown indifferent to their presence and frankly, just ignore them when I see their images. Come to think about it, I’ve pretty much always just ignored their parts even back then except when it directly affects JYJ. For me, they were just kind of “there”. Oh well, ┐(‘～`；)┌
I’ll try to give warnings (abt those “irrelevant” segments) but some of these vids really showcase JYJ’s personalities/talents wonderfully even back then and are really entertaining. I love how JYJ guys really have stayed the same personality-wise (A-D-O–R-K-A-B-L-E!) throughout the years

JYJ on X-Man cut—–this was a very popular variety show where celebs compete mock-physically and also try to “woo” (using sing or dancing skills) other celebs of the opposite sex in match-up games. This is the “wooing” part.
Same X-Man show but this is the physical game competition part.
The game is called “Touch touch wrestling” and the rules are 1 member from each team (blue and red) will take turn trying to lie in the middle of the mat on top of the cartoon man sticker for >5 seconds without being dragged/tossed off from that position by the opposing team member. If you get tired and needs relief, you can tag out your members to switch as pinch-reliever.

This is the ORIGINAL Immortal Song program—-this one featured Patti Kim ( a legendary diva in SK.—http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patti_Kim_%28singer%29 ) and a few celebs who will try to sing some of Ms Kim’s hits and she will judge the caliber of their vocal quality.

There is quite alot of funny JJ and JS moments in this one also. Lots of JJ embarrassment and JS irrepressible confidence.
**I’m still trying to find the one where the MCs asked JS to best describe JJ that will give the clearest image of JJ, and JS replied “JJ is like miso soup” JJ was so affronted then and wanted to know why. Interesting point to note, not too long ago this year—in a magazine article I think—-, JJ himself described his own personality as alike to miso soup ^^

[Trans] Music critic Noh Junyoung’s review on In Heaven
In fact, the epithet ‘idol’ is a double-edged sword. To someone, it could be a real ‘idol’, but to someone, it could be a subject to prejudice. The idol fever that swept the whole world traces back to the 80s. On August 1st 1981, the pop music world changed as a lot of idols with fine appearances started to pour out when MTV, a station that airs music vidoes for 24 hours, was founded. Of course they each had star qualities and singing abilities, but it was true that somehow their appearance attraced more attention. This kind of prejudice is still valid. In many cases, for an idol, people expect a lower level of musical ability. However, as a lot of talented idols showed up, the twisted attitude is slowly disappearing, and ‘TVXQ’ is one of the artists who contributed largely to this situation. All of the members produced high quality, classy music. Eventually they gripped the whole Asian markets, and also guided the idol groups to the right path. In a bigger picture, they created a new methodology for singers to benchmark.
Their fans must have been more sorry for what had happened to them because of these reasons(he’s talking about the lawsuit). JYJ is still the most talented among idol groups in existence. This is becuase the collaboration of Jaejoong, Junsu, and Yoochun, who possesses singing, performance, and entertaining ablilities, is on the basis. They could target the worldwide market with their first album [The Beginning] because they were confident of their abilities. Isn’t it proved that their possiblities to comepete in the American market was confirmed, as the best hiphop producer Kanye West lent his voice without hesitation? There are three points to focus on [In Heaven], released in this kind of situation, when even spatial constraints are collapsing. Whether a Korean album-not an English one to target the worldwide market-can appeal as a hit keywod, if they can compete with only their music without enough appearance on TV, and if the music is good enough to cover three members’ singing ability. When you listen to all the songs of [In Heaven], you’ll get an answer of these three points easier than you thought.
The first thing we must focus on is that the members participated in every song in the album, taking a step forward to an musician. The single fact that they directly participated in the album and showed their leadership is a part that should be highly appreciated. It is a nice evidence that they are making an effort to be accepted as artists. In addition, since the members demonstrated their sense of trend that they felt during the tour, it is needless to comment on their possibilities. ‘Get Out’, produced by Jaejoong and Yoochun, is a trendy pop dance song. The lively composition and the texture of the sound makes the members’ charm stand out even more, and furthermore, as shocking shouting vocals were added, it became a nice song with a strong feeling. You can feel JYJ’s Asian sensitivity in ‘In Heaven’, ‘Fallen Leaves’, and ‘Boy’s Letter’. Especially the appeal in the climax of ‘In Heaven’, the nostalgic sensitivity of ‘Fallen Leaves’, and the unusual composition of ‘Boy’s Letter’ are outstanding. Because these songs have both the nostalgia for the past and the goal of present, you can meet the longing feeling and the delight at the same time.
Different from the former songs, ‘Mission’ and ‘I.D.S’ shows future-oriented aspects. ‘Mission’ with the powerful beat, and ‘I.D.S’ with the auto-tune technique, both has the trendy American sounds. Especially the addictive sound of ‘I.D.S’ is very high-leveled, and in my opinion it would recieve favorable responses even if it is released in the American market. ‘You’re’ and ‘Pierrot’ are pop dance songs with medium tempo, better if you watch the performance. Especially, ‘Pierrot’ refreshes the listeners’ logic by the ironic composition with pretty shocking lyrics, craving for freedom, and a bright melody. ‘Nine’ is a retro-stlye song, also a song that you must listen to. It is hard to define clearly, but ‘Nine’ kind of shows the old sound from the Britpop scene, and is a well made song that can gain sympathy from a whole generation. If [The Beginning] showed a beat centered sound with the American trend at the basis, [In Heaven] has a character capable of gripping domestic and Asian sentiment, emphasizing melodies. Their goal changed as they went through an ablum, but the quality is still high. The innate talent and musical instruments they have is unchanged, even though their target has changed.
I want to say JYJ’s new album is a ‘raw’ thing. The most honest stories and the most honest sounds of the members are realized in the album. In addition, their own songs, composed with understanding of various genres, are quite good in quality. Even though there are points lacking slightly in the overall composition of the album, I feel no need to mention it, since it is not about the quality of the music. Their musical ability is already beyond the highest level. The musical possibility that these men, JYJ who macthes with the term artist rather than idol, can show has just started.

1. Just For One Day—–JJ’s cover version with The Grace/CSJH
2. JJ-YC singing Rainy Blue duet by Hideaki Tokunaga at the Boy Pop Factory.
(Its the same concert as the vid posted by @summerdream11 near top of today’s
GAPP where they also sang Been So Long.) Its approx 1 hour long.
When the MC asked, JJ said that YC selected the song choice, that its a difficult song
to sing due to the high notes, that they have only ever sang it at a karaoke once and
never performed live before this and he was nervous abt singing it.
*** THSK5 performed this song w Mr Tokunaga at the FNS Music Festival in 2009 and also Stand By You. JYJ also performed this song as a trio at the Thanksgiving live in 2010 concerts. (My favorite cover version).
Mr Tokunaga actually said in an interview in 2010 (after Avex banned JYJ from Japanese appearances) that JJ/JYJ’s rendition of his breakout song is the best by any of the singers who have covered this song since 1997, and that he wish for the day that JJ can return to Japan to sing his song again. On another interview, when asked his impression of THSK5 after meeting and working with them, Mr Tokunaga said that (roughly translating) “They are impossibly beautiful, blinding/dazzling perfect like ice sculptures but you fear/wonder if they will shatter if you touch them”.

Just read on twitter that HM are gonna release a new version of “Somebody to Love”, which will (of course) feature the 2 of them only. Does anyone here know if it’s true or is it just a rumour ? Not that it would really surprise me if it was true since they’ve already shamelessly sang TVXQ5’s songs before (and they even used JYJ’s vocals) but I was hoping they would stop recycling TVXQ5’s songs and sing their own instead. After all, you don’t see other groups constantly relying on their old hits to maintain their careers. They wanted to create a “new and better TVXQ” so why are they using old songs now ?

… I don’t know how wise it is to talk about this here since trolls seem to lurk a lot. But I heard about this sometime ago and it didn’t surprise me lol. AVEX and SME have already made them sing old songs (with what sounds like the original backing vocals ugh) on multiple occasions, so re-releasing the songs with re-done vocals is a natural step.
And although I actually respect the duo’s abilities (unlike a lot of people :x), I have to say that making them sing old songs doesn’t do them or their new fans any favors because those songs weren’t tailored for the duo. It might tug on the heartstrings of some old-timer fans or more casual fans, but I’d wager it mostly reminds people of what’s lacking.
So yeah, no matter what they say, SME and AVEX have already proven to be primarily (predictably) intent on milking the original group’s popularity, regardless of how it affects anyone else. They’re ‘just businesses’ after all. SME deciding to ‘continue’ TVXQ and AVEX continuing to release THSK/JYJ material after deciding to suspend THSK activities and blocking JYJ from Oricon are all prime examples of that.
In fact, part of the reason their former agencies are pulling out all stops to block the trio is because they’re making it harder for those agencies to reel back old fans.

SME and/or AVEX owns those songs and owns the performances. That’s the sad truth. Do not look for them to do the decent thing regarding this huge catalog of songs/performances, ever. It makes me upset too that they are using the Five member’s background vocals here, there and everywhere…. It makes me angry that Homin uses them in live performances. Nobody appears to have any shame in that particular camp, I think they’ve proven that to us… There’s nothing JYJ can do about any of this except through the courts and who knows? Maybe that’s what is holding up the whole thing right now…. maybe their lawyers are trying to get back that part of the catalog actually written by the guys as part of a settlement. More likely, it’s all gone and will stay gone. And SM, AVEX and Homin will continue to exploit and misuse it any way they feel like it.
This is one good reason why I feel it is so preposterous for OT5s to think there’s going to be any sort of a “reunion.” Homin has burned every one of their bridges with JYJ. Using JYJ’s vocals in songs that Jae, Yuchun and Junsu did the lion’s share of the featured vocals for must be like a knife the heart for them. The whole situation where their performances are now beyond their control must be like a nightmare for them.
That last tweet of Jaejoong’s: “You can love someone…….you can reminisce, you can even hate someone, but don’t take advantage..” This sad situation with their lost voices that no longer belong to them was the first thing I thought of…..
You are right. This IS why I became an EX-ot5. It was not what SME/Avex has done and still do to JYJ——after all, they are just acting true to form. It’s rather the revealing actions/words of the other 2 that effectively killed all my hopes or wishes for a reunion. Even if traces of love/friendship remain, trust has been brutally abused on every level by the people they once believed in the most. Without trust as foundation, how can you build something as mundane as an effective working relationship?
And every time the new self-crowned tvxq2 remake 1 of their old songs (blatantly using JYJ’s vocals yet denying them of any credit), it ‘s feels like they’re driving another nail into the coffin of my precious tvxq5/thsk5 memories. Much as it pains me to admit, all this only re-confirm why JYJ deserves much better than a reunion w their former members.
Patience is not my strength and I fervently hope as many here do, that Lady Karma will deal the hand of justice one day.

You’re welcome! I just want to make clear that I did not do any of the subbing, that is the wonderful team at ViKi doing all the work! The only thing I do is resync if the timing is off or reformat the subs in a new .srt file so that it will play with windows media player and otherl players out there. For some reason their .srt’s file do not appear in all players.
If you’re interested I also have Chunnie’s “Miss Ripley” drama in one file for download just like PtB. Also some live solo songs of JYJ I captured and made into mp3’s. I know you’re fairly recent here, I’ve posted the links in the past but not sure if you’d joined us yet?!
