On the October 31st broadcast of ‘Come to Play‘, Eunhyuk of Super Junior revealed that he has been friends with JYJ‘s Junsu since elementary school, which has curbed important personal decisions in his life. The guests were discussing their drinking habits, and Eunhyuk confessed has never consumed a single glass of alcohol in his entire life.
Host Yoo Jae Suk asked Eunhyuk, “How is your alcohol tolerance? Do you have any drinking habits?”
Eunhyuk replied, “I don’t drink alcohol. I’ve been friends with Junsu since elementary school. We both dreamed of being singers since we were young. We both made a promise back then. I told Junsu, ‘Since we’re going to be singers, let’s not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes,’ and he happily agreed.”
Fans who viewed the show commented, “I guess his secret to looking young was no drinking or smoking,” “I never knew that he and Junsu have been friends since elementary school,” and, “I hope you continue to keep your promise, and your friendship lasts.”

Actually, this show was recorded in 2011 and the first time Eunhyuk drank was around his birthday the next year (04/04/2012) in Paris (he talks about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r2TX8_x1wA, that show was aired in 2012; there was also a video of the moment but I’m too lazy to find). So he wasn’t actually lying on broadcast in Come to Play, I just wanted to clear this up for the people who didn’t have the correct info. (Of course, you could choose to believe that he lied about drinking for the first time in 2012, but I personally don’t think so.)

Honestly, Korean ppl are one of the heaviest drinkers so this is why I.DONT.UNDERSTAND why he must lie about that!

nah, i think other southeast asian countries are heavier smokers–JAPAN for one; i believe VIETNAM too (seems like it when i went over there to see “relatives”)
Malaysia and Singapore has pretty heavy smokers too. Also when I was in Paris, I saw a lot of people who smoke.
why would he need to lie about that? just wondering cause it would just be pointless. he could just say i’ve only ever had a few drinks or i don’t like drinking etc… not everyone has a hidden agenda.
I just wished that if he’s gonna talk about something, that it’ll be something closer to the truth.

mmm i would say it’s more of a white lie than anything else…harmless. ^^;; I’m not one to look into things too closely but basically both junsu and eunhyuk try to stay away from drinking and smoking as much as possible. I think that was his overall statement in the long run.
But actually, did he himself say that he drank any? Because I watch most shows that Eunhyuk’s on, and I don’t remember him ever saying he drank. Even the members say that they go out for drinks, but Eunhyuk’s the only one that doesn’t even though he’s out with them.
although Hyukjae admitted that he went out to drink with his members, as far as I know he kept trying to keep their promise by drinking soda or something when the others drank alcohol~

I’m REALLY proud of these two. In a culture where drinking and smoking seems to be the norm……..they instead have remained dedicated to their dreams and not followed the ideals of others. ^_____^
Of course there are times where they HAVE TO drink, sometimes drinking could also be an act to show some respect (depending on who are present at that time – eg. their seniors etc). What matters is, they themselves have no intention to drink at all unless being forced to. And I like the fact that Junsu doesn’t drink, smoke and all that. He leads a pretty healthy life, dontchu think? What with his activeness in sports and all 🙂

sure, there are events where they might have to drink but that doesnt mean they have to actually consume it. in the terms of getting respect by DRINKING isnt really a smart decision.

No, it’s not true for Korea. If someone older or more influential than you pours you a drink, you *need* to drink it in Korea because it’s considered impolite and rude if you don’t. And you can’t say “thanks, no more”, if he pours you again, you need to drink it again. I know it’s strange for us and I don’t like it either that they drink away their life but we need to realise that every country has it’s own culture and customs and we can’t change it.
I guess its hard for him to quit since he stiil smoke even if he was not feeling well before the europe tour. 😦 i hope he can minimize first then eventually quit. Its killing him.

But idk if you remember, but on the radio one time, Eunhyuk had a mission to say, “I’m going solo” (straying from the group), sent it out via text to some friends and see what their responses are. Junsu replied, “They’re letting you?!” LOL.
I finally quit smoking two months ago. It’s so hard; I still feel the craving. Hope it goes away soon. So, I really feel for Jae and Yuchun! When they finally decide to quit; they will.
Congratz, keep this up. I feel you. I’ve stopped for two years now, but still crave it sometimes. You just gotta take it one day at a time.^^

i don’t why some of you are saying hyuk is lying. the main point is here as what ‘ive agree on the previous comment. HYUK and SU is not into drinking unless it is needed. on a video you’l hear hyuk saying “JUNSU WHO’S HAVING ACTIVITIES NOW” which probably means hyuk is updated of junsu’s whereabouts. they are still in contact with each other. here’s the vid
i just hope that the two always remain as best friends ^^ seeing their happy pics when they were young really make me emotional..it’s hard to have such long lasting freindship ^^
as for why Eunhuyk keeps talking about the “old” memories… I think even if he wants to, he can’t talk about their “new” memories – the memories they have after the lawsuit, since that is forbidden in SM, i suppose. However I’m sure that they do have new memoires together. Remember that time when Eunhuyk and Junsu tweeted each other ^^ they have proven to us that they do still hang out, so i’m not worried about that ^^
