JYJ Concert in Spain. A Brave Beginning, More Important Than Its Scale
With the perspectives splitting, there is rising controversy about the Spain Concert from Group JYJ (Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu).
On the 29th of last month, group JYJ held JYJ Europe Tour Concert 2011 in Barcelona, Spain while 3000 fans gathered. They held the concert in Poble Espanyol of Barcelona, Spain, and this was the first for a Korean artist.
After the concert, a few are raising doubt as to the objective facts on the number of the members of the audience gathered on the scene, the number of fans of the area, and the publishing of the event by foreign press.
On this day, the concert was crowded from early on due to the fans who gathered—not merely Asian fans from Korea, China, Japan and such but also from all over Europe. There were even some fans of the region who showed enthusiasm enough to make them put up a tent to stay up overnight in foul weather in order to take a position that is close to the stage.
The most eye-catching thing about this concert was the fact that not merely fans of Asia but also a number of foreign fans from Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, and such filled the seats. They shouted the names of the members in precise Korean pronunciation and sang along to the songs.
According to Open Music Jordi, the promoter (of JYJ) in Spain, as the result of counting after the audience entered the venue, it has become confirmed that 3000 persons visited the venue as a member of the audience.
Poble Espanyol is a plaza-style venue and it was filled by the 3000 fans who entered it in order. When the concert began and JYJ appeared on the stage, the fans gathered in front of the stage and waved the red glowsticks.
Even after the concert was over, they shouted “I love you, JYJ” and were not able to leave the scene easily.
When compared to the world tours in other locations such as Korea, Japan, Thailand and such, the concert in Spain which was the first of the European Tour [destinations] of JYJ was relatively small in scale.
But JYJ showed a brave mindset of beginning again by holding a solo concert for the first time as Korean artists in Europe. Also, even though this was small scale, they relayed the appeal of K-pop to the fans of Europe and had a meaningful time of informing them of JYJ’s existence.
In the press conference held prior to the concert, JYJ revealed their heart: “We think it is only natural that the first concert is small in scale. We put meaning to the fact that we are doing a tour in Europe and we want to fulfill [milestones] one by one from small places, with the mindset of beginning again from the start line.” As they said, JYJ have made the first meaningful step towards expanding into Europe.

Hahahahaha, that’s all it takes, actual journalism.
The person who doubted the number of attendees should rethink their careers.
C-Jes strikes back. Woop, woop!
how shameful….to need outsiders to confirm again and again the number of people who attended the concert. what kind of impression are u giving to the world..
I don’t get what you mean. Are you telling me that they should be embarrassed having outsiders tell the number of fans entering their concert? What the hell? They are in war, a big war with some jackasses and they are being disturbed by all this meaningless, immature acts.
calm down dear
i think @jade_sprout just only want to said it to some people who still felt doubt about the number of people in the venue
miaw got it right! I am just saying that the korean media can’t accept their own people’s word to the extent that foreigners must be involved..
I think she was telling it to those big powers who are spreading bad rumors intentionally…… The comment definitely looks like it’s aimed at the hotshots of SK who are making a joke out of themselves….
^__________^ You have it there!
“not merely fans of Asia but also a number of foreign fans from Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, and such filled the seats.”
Bassed on pictures and fanaccounts MOST OF THEM were European fans ^_____^
As a Spanish fan who was there, I can tell you… 90% were europeans ❤
@Lola
Lucky you! I wish I had been able to attend the Barcelona concert as well. So jealous! 🙂 Is it true that the audience applauded JYJ for 27 minutes after the show ended? I forgot where I read that, but it also said that the previous record holder for longest applause at Poble Espanyol was Placido Domingo. Thank you in advance for answering my question.
Yes it’s true I stayed there for 20 min and then I had to leave but a girl I know told me they applauded for 26-27 min and broke the record of Placido Domingo (25min) but there wasn’t anybody there to make it official 😦
my god and no one wrote about it?? wth??? man i wish they can to australia but i know for a fact we dont have alot of fans 😦 and can someone clarify what rumors are being spread by the media (cough, sm).
Ha!!! Counterstrike to the article that doubts the #of attendance..
The one who wrote that article seems to be a clown or a comedian because a serious journalist or article writer certainly he/she IS NOT!!! To dare to write a paper on gossip and rumors; tsc, tsc, tsc.
which article ? show me if you can please ^^
I think the person who wrote differently should go for a private English Tuitions…A simple English language can’t even “understand” well…Maybe they should ask SM to pay for their tuition’s fees since private tutors are expensive…Or Maybe should go back to school & learn how to be a “conscience” journalist…
CJES & JYJ FIGHTING !!!
Thank you for clarifying TVReport.
*TVDaily, oops ^^;;
SM U MAD ?
JYJ Like a BOSS in barcelona concert
thank u
well well well… our faith being tested again.
“The most eye-catching thing about this concert was the fact that not merely fans of Asia but also a number of foreign fans from Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, and such filled the seats. ”
I disagree. The most eye-catching thing about this concert was the “Fuck SM” signs among the audience members. Let’s be REAL here, people!! So SM sent out a horde of their flying monkeys to plant the story that there were only 1000 in the audience instead of the true number.
What a shocker. SM wants to interfere with JYJ’s success. Who woulda figured THAT!??
Ha ha ha. Fuck SM.
Amen Ms. Lili
That has got to be the most eye-catching thing XD
LOL
@lili u really get the main point ^^
@LILI
Dear; ¡WAY TO GO!! But of course the “Fuck SM” banners were eye catching and very appropriate, but the most eye-catching thing were Junsu’s hip thrusts in white….. ¡OMGS!!! 🙂
@Lili and @Shuheilove
May I add to the list of eye-catching things at the Barcelona concert?
1. Fuck SM signs
2. Junsu’s hip thrusts….in white!
3. The return of JaeJae’s arms!!!!! Kyaaaa!!!! Am I the only who noticed that his arms looked a little bit bigger and more cut? Or is it just another Jae induced delusion/fantasy?! IDRK….either I’m happy to see the return of the triceps and biceps! Now about those abs Jae….take off your shirt!!!! TAKE IT OFF!!! TAKE IT OFF!!!
4. Yoochun’s hair…..his tribute to Elvis. Who knew Chunface was such a big Elvis fan?! Chunnie sure is a dark horse isn’t he? I love you Yoochun, but….*sighsdeeply* ::shakeshead::
lol at your no. 4 ! it’s chunface, he makes shocking appearance like a casual thing XDD.
but hey, i’ve seen the pic of jae’s arms on Barcelona concert before, but then i forgot to save it. do you happen to have it ? or anyone ? pretty, please ? *wink* thank you so much XDD
@Ka_vie
I unfortunately did the same thing! I forgot to save them and am now regretting it. If I find them, I’ll be sure to save and share them. I think I follow you on Twitter…I’m Golda518.
@lilibaiyu I think the writer of the article wants to avoid listing any ‘obsenities’. But the @#$% SM sign was certainly amusing. 😀
It caught the eye of SM for sure hence the smear campaign…
Muahahaha!~ Right On!! Miss Lili!!~~
The F*ck SM sign was definitely most eye-catching!!~
@lilibaiyu
Ooopps !! I’m too young to say anything…But I like the banner…so much !!!
Is it that specific persons don’t want JYJ to succeed in Europe? ‘Cause I remember the media couldn’t wait to build up the importance of the Hallyu Wave by a certain company in Europe (read Paris), yet, when it comes to JYJ they can’t wait to tear them down, speculate that they’re lying by inflating the attendance and to reinforce it with pictures of the venue before it even starts. They want that photo to be “proof” that JYJ could not pull in 3,000 attendees. Where is the objectivity and honor in journalism in reporting the truth?!
F*CK SM…
it’s not a word I usually say…but for them…NO hesitation!
Ah eljay, “Where is the objectivity and honor in journalism in reporting the truth?!” You mean in SK? 🙂 That’s almost at the stage of being an oxymoron.
Now on to your statement about your use of the profanity F*CK SM…might I add a bit to that…comes from a dear friend who has passed on…”and the horse you rode in on.” I don’t think my friend would ever imagine her tagline would spread around the world. But I simply love it! It just seems to fit. 🙂
“That’s almost at the stage of being an oxymoron.”
A very apt description of much of the writing that passes for journalism in SK. In the current state of affairs I don’t hold out hope of it changing anytime soon, thus the piles of scorn and ridicule heaped upon them 🙂
…”and the horse you rode in on.”
Love it. Haven’t heard that phrase since my grandparents!
>_<
Ok, who knows more than the actual promoter? ^_^
Ah, please next time first check your sources mr. delusional journalist of nate… LOL
Those who are doubting the 3k attendance are simply splitting hairs. Who cares about the effing number??? What is being proven here is that artists who are talented enough and enjoy the support of loyal and dedicated fans can hold concerts in unexplored venues WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF HUGE COMPANIES AND THEIR PROMO MACHINERIES. A thought that is so scary for others, I think.
Our dear boys themselves said that they are simply repaying the love of their fans in this part of the world. They are not interested in launching a full-scale ambitious concert just to flaunt hallyu wave in front of European faces like others.
Anyone who doubts the personal victory of our boys and the sincerity of their intentions are not fans–they are either asslickers of a certain company or antifans who should just spend their time taking care of their oppas and their YEAs.
love your comment ^^
Agree wholeheartedly @Jan, the boys have already stated their purpose in this venture, but some just don’t get it and never will!
**CLAPS LOUDLY**
“They are not interested in launching a full-scale ambitious concert just to flaunt hallyu wave in front of European faces like others.”
I actually like that they’re keeping it real, with small concerts and not all that buzz that SM made. Yeah. SM Town was a great show, it sold out and I really enjoyed it, but they made such a buzz about it afterwards that I felt like telling them to fuck off. No, SM, as much as you’d like to think, kpop and SM artists are NOT the most “in” thing right now in Europe, and it’s actually a niche market, and I get the feeling it’ll be for a while.
Plus, SM Town sold 12000 tickets (6000/day) but a lot of people went BOTH days (so it wasn’t really 12000 people) and they put FIVE groups on that stage. JYJ sold 3000 tickets on their own. U MAD, SM? STAY MAD THEN.
(Pretty irrelevant, but I needed to let this out xD)
Me TinAMAan ka, Jan!
LOL
MTE
ASTIG nang comment mo Jan!
“What is being proven here is that artists who are talented enough and enjoy the support of loyal and dedicated fans can hold concerts in unexplored venues WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF HUGE COMPANIES AND THEIR PROMO MACHINERIES. A thought that is so scary for others, I think. ”
This fact bursts their bloated egos, their claim to be the mighty leader of the Hallyu Wave conquering Europe. They really feel very itchy thinking how could JYJ gather 3k audience with that outside venue with no seats, compared to their SMTown Paris with all the the machineries and government support bringing dozens of performers in a very comfortable concert venue with around 6k/day audience ONLY…
and as you said ünexplored venues, that’s what makes JYJ a force to reckon with, JYJ DREAMS, BELIEVES, DARES, and SURVIVES….
@kris
““What is being proven here is that artists who are talented enough and enjoy the support of loyal and dedicated fans can hold concerts in unexplored venues WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF HUGE COMPANIES AND THEIR PROMO MACHINERIES. A thought that is so scary for others, I think. ”
I don’t think any of us have any true idea, really of just how freaked out SM and their minions are by that fact. This inconvenient truth flies in the face of their entire carefully constructed modus operandi for why all future hopefuls need to funnel themselves into their Idol System for training and all the perks that come with being with a big company. We’ve already seen widespread news of SM’s abuse of their young charges, but to now ALSO see that truly talented artists can do very well without SM’s cloying and oppressive presence–well, if I was SM, I’d be staying awake nights wondering what the hell to do next.
@Jan
COOOOLLLL !!! comments…
Thank you for clarifications. I did trust that JYJ and their reps said the truth not only because JYJ are honest, respectful, ethical young men, but also because if indeed they said untrue things….those who are drooling to hurt them will not let them be. I have read about Tablo plight from Stanford magazine, the man was innocent, but they continued to abuse him and his family and friends over and over.
I choose to trust these boys, and I only listen to what they say.
I am flabbergasted by this desire to continuously sabotage these men, and this will not stop for a while because it seems that it developed in a culture/phenomena of itself.
I think it’s really really hard for the boys, but they are doing it with such grace and patience. They are such great men, they are really beasts of courage, determination, wildly and kindly enough to juggle the jungle in which they live. They are real men. No muscles, no manly freaking charisma, no height, no machismo, no physical power will make them real men, if they would not have the character, the brain, the personality, and the respect to live and navigate in the environment which has been dealt to them.
Why can’t people drop it and focus their energy and resources to grow and develop as much as they want? Go live your dreams, make the money you want, get as much power as you want, but live these boys alone.
On a different note, I don’t think I have any chance in heaven to adopt these boys. Sometimes, I wish I could take them away from all this madness, but they love singing and performing too much, so they will be so unhappy if they did not have a stage. I am happy that JJ has his own home ( please friends and family check on him often, cause the man likes to bury himself into his music), YC and JS keep an eye on this crazy hyung.
Aigoo, Daebaksama, it looks like you have writing logorrhea. Peace out my JYJ3 lovelies. Jeez, I am actively participating in the development of English language with new words. Ha Ha Ha
Yes watch over their unpredictable hyung that we love so much X///x! Mostly, he does the watching over others, but he needs to be minded too.
🙂 No better person to add to the lexicon IMHO.
Hi there, @ButterfliesAreFree, thanks a bunch.
@Claudelle Le (@ClaudelleLe), yes he needs someone to check on him from time to time, not to smother him, but just enough to remind him that they love him, and they know what a special man he is.
@daebaksama Oh Jaejoong is more loved than he knows. But since he’s usually the one who does the ‘loving’ he may not as notice that as much & the people who are being loved by him are too preoccupied by his attention to them x))
and don’t forget there are also so many people who always blamed him for something that actually not related with him n i get the felling that Jae gonna took this matter to the part of his own fault
agree with u dear ^^
yup there are must be some people who check this boy for a while
sometimes we never knew what the action that gonna jae take, he like someone who follow his mood or heart n makes to reality immediately or should i say sometimes he really spontaneous person but with his own consideration
like all of us knew that Jae truly loves to watching over the others till sometimes he forgot about himself n in those process, sometimes he get hurt badly even though he won’t admit it, this is the reason why i always worries about him n i’m sure everyone who knew about Jae very well gonna felt same
He really a honest person it’s true but if there are some (big) problem he never gonna let it out freely of those problem because he really consider to other people n won’t makes others felt worry (n he won’t increase the burden to other people) to much so that’s why he choose to keep it in his own mind n sometimes if we not careful the person like Jae gonna felt that every bad things which happen to them was his fault that’s why i really glad there are Yoosu n his friends who always in his side n remind him there are people who gonna share his sadness n problem, some people who can Jae’s depend of
sorry for so many grammar fail in my comment hope u guys understand what i want to talking about
that’s why he choose to keep his own problem but sometimes he also forget that there are some people who
Dae to the Bakkk sama !!!
I was there it was EPIC kyaaaa im from the uk <333333 JYJ
Fan-account, calling for fan-account please! ^^
SO THERE. Ha! *thumbing my nose at the naysayers and detractors*
😕 did i miss something? what article is questioning the number of people that attended?
read on the previous GAPP ,
http://jyj3.net/2011/11/03/111103-jyj3-general-all-purpose-post/
there are some news which reporter in Nate said that the audience of our boys concerts is not 3000 but actually 2000 or 1000 because they took a picture of an empty green space and said that the numbers were inflated and the proof of the low number of attendees was the ‘empty green space’
but according to some kfan tweets, the journalist said he thought the manga performance was the actual concert and the pictures used on the article were taken when the venue was still filling up, it makes sense for the lights to be on, it was like

haha this artcile hope people can finally stfu lol at whoever wrote that OTHER article <__< they look really stupid rn
YES!!! eat than haters!!
i really dont understand wth with SK. their own citizens made a history, and all they do was trying to made it seems like it was a fail or lie. where it should they praise them coz they bring their country name such a very good review. look what happened to Tablo. of he was my fellow citizen, i would be d*mn proud to have such a talented AND smart artist in my country. not many people could have what he have n do what he did. to be graduated quite fast and with such a honorable achievement in 1 of the best uni in the world. should it made them proud coz its proven to the world that Asian, or moreover, Koreans can also be so very smart? that they have an artist who also have a Brain? but noooo, what they did was created baseless rumours, bashed n threatened him and his family (even threatened to kill his bro?i mean wth), called his uni proffesors, friends, dean in USA as liar and scarred him for life. how could other people have to defend for your own fellow citizen, while the people who should defend him and proud of him, were the one who attacked him? thats why the same way i cheered when he finally proven his innocence to SK public (and show to the world the image of SK people i believe i dont want my country to have that kind of image).
and so does with JYJ. why u talked about numbers of attendee? you have pics, may of it, u have reports from many media, even Spanish media itself, who present at the concert. it was a successfull concert, people praised them left and right. YOU ALL SHOULD PROUD OF WHAT THEY DID, SK, AND NOOOO, ALL YOU DID WAS TRYING TO DISCREDIT THEM WHILE OTHER PEOPLE PRAISE THEM!!!
really SK, why must concern about how many are attending? it was a successful solo concert. the 1st solo concert in Spain. why must concern how many not asian came? for me, even if many asian came, isnt it amazing, they are willing to fly across to other continent to see JYJ? they even camped out 28 hrs before the concert for earth sake!!! if that was my country artists (lets say Padi or Gigi or Ungu, etc) have did that, i would be d*mn proud n boastful. just like i would be boastful for whole entire my life if my fellow citizens chosen as UNAIDS goodwill ambassador for THE WHOLE Asia-Pasific Region and be the first Kpop Artist for that matter.
sorry for the long rant. and no, i dont angry to fans who does believe numbers and the fact that so many non asian came to their concert important. i also proud n boastful about numbers n the diversity of our fandom. it just i felt really sick with how SK treated their talented and outstanding artists. it just like God gave you the most beautiful, expensive and rare diamond in the whole world, but instead of proud and be thankful, u just keep looking for it’s flaw and complain about it… -.-“
You don’t need to feel sorry about this part: “why must concern about how many are attending? it was a successful solo concert. the 1st solo concert in Spain. why must concern how many not asian came? for me, even if many asian came, isnt it amazing, they are willing to fly across to other continent to see JYJ? they even camped out 28 hrs before the concert for earth sake!!!”
Many people just focus on the number of European fans, while Asian ones also deserve the concern no matter whether they are living in Europe or flew from Asia. As for the former, isn’t their heart towards where they’re from precious and worth understanding? As for the latter, like what you’ve said, they’ve flown all the way to another continent just to enjoy their idols’ performance. It’s not easy at all to live in a strange place, even in a day. Personally, I find them admirable. Lastly, I want to thank you to bring out this issue.
so what if there was asians?? i mean u cant just automatically assume that just cos asians turn up, all those fans/ attendees are Skorea/jap fans who flew over. what about the asians who live there??? fuck them for trying to stir up controversial. but i mean knowing that there was ALOT europeans in the house means that they have alot of fans who arent just into (kpop/jpop/manga/anime) category.
ps (im an asian in australia). =)
It is so sad that people have to keep affirming that the accurate number of attendees were 3000. Are the naysayers that doubtful of themselves that they have to concoct some number (2000 or 1000) to feel better about themselves? Are they that scared of JYJ’s success? Even if it was only one person who attended, JYJ will still perform as if it was 10,000 people. As long as there is someone willing to listen and watch them, they would perform to the best of their ability. Trust me, there will be thousands more than one person at any JYJ concert. After all, only the three of them sold out Tokyo Dome. They didn’t need several acts just to sell out a venue.
A++++ I love ur comment 🙂 “Even if it was only one person who attended, JYJ will still perform as if it was 10,000 people” true^^ that’s why i love them so much!!
I totally agree with you junsu love! 3000, 2000,1000 WHATEVER the bottom line here is… JYJ is the first KPop group that performed live in europe and the one that opens the door and build the bridge for other kpop group.
they are like ambassador of KPop to the world.
they should thank JYJ for this!
lol yes live not lips-inc *cough*
@jjbiased
“lol yes live not lips-inc *cough*”
Exactly.
I hate to be a broken record about this, but actually singing at your concert should sort of be a Given, right? And yet, for big chunks of the K-Pop world, it’s NOT. So what is that?? Can acts who cannot sing live even be called “vocal groups”? Aren’t they dancing groups, or “live entertainers?” And in my estimation, singing and dancing live for 2 hours is a LOT different then coming out and “performing” 3 songs and then making way for the next act. A LOT different. It’s hard, grueling work. So WHERE’S the respect for JYJ for being the real thing in their own home country??
I’m sorry, but I’ve always felt the LSM’s plan to have his stable of posing, pouting dancing girls and boys taken seriously as real singers, let alone artists in the western world was the sheerest megalomaniacal fantasy on his part.
Certainly a few of them CAN sing, no question. So…. what exactly are the rest of them there for?
I was there and had a lot of people nearly all European
Asians were few
it is sad that a Korean group arrived in Spain and make it great and its own people try to lie about their success
my cousin is not a fan .. it was me and I’m amazed by the number of fans
is curious that when big companies act lie about success
I just know JYJ started very well in europe
Let me just let it out here.. just once..
F*ck the numbers. F*ck SM !. Let they rot in hell and let us be peace in heaven with JYJ.
(sorry for bad language & to minors here)..
