According to Hanteo, JYJ sold ~158,000 albums this year.
JYJ released 2 albums this year: Music Essay and In Heaven. There were no repackages nor multiple versions of the same album (such as versions A, B, C, limited edition, special edition, etc.) Majority of Music Essay sales could not be counted on Hanteo because they were categorized as “books” and not as albums. While it topped the bookstore sales and rankings charts, Music Essay wasn’t featured as prominently on Hanteo due to its categorization. As such, ~158,000 does not accurately portray the success JYJ had this year and had Music Essay counted as albums, JYJ would rank much higher in Singer Awards chart.

So “~158,000 albums this year” only for In heaven? And only in Hanteo, since Gaon’s numbers are always much higher… uhm, I like :D!
I’m now wondering about the Gaon ranking for October, it hasn’t been released, has it? I wanted to see how the boys had done during a whole month.
The singer awards count all albums sold by the singer that year. So even if Mirotic sold this year, it will count towards 2.0’s total sales for this year.
The Beginning and In Heaven and Music Essay that were sold in 2011 are all counted in the 158,000 but the problem is, majority of Music Essay were not sold in places that count towards Hanteo charts but where sold in bookstores instead. So maybe 20,000 to 30,000 Music Essay sales were counted in the 158,000 Hanteo figure but we all know that JYJ sold over 150,000 copies and Music Essay had to be reprinted several times.

All of your stats are important and I thank you for them. But let’s keep an eye on the Big Picture. We are still in a transitional phase where there will be relatively fewer accomplishments and more importantly, fewer acknowledgments of those accomplishments because of the continuing lawsuit and SM and their blocking of various media.
Still, thanks to the diligence and perseverance of fans, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt at this point that JYJ can be considered a major force in Korean pop music. Their popularity, with so little access to concert and TV venues in SK, has been astounding. They are selling albums like crazy and have made more money in the last 2 years than all of the 7 years combined that they spent laboring for SME even though of course record sales, appearances and the workload in general was much larger during their tenure as DBSK.
Here is the salient point: all of K-Pop is currently snarled in a flurry of misinformation, hyperbole and entertainment company generated propaganda. How much of it can one really take seriously? With JYJ, we get the numbers, we see the results, the guys are forthcoming because nobody behind the scenes is writing their scripts for them anymore.
I’m prepared to say that at this point most of the “music awards” are rigged or bought–in some way tampered with. They mean nothing to me. They are spurious. There is no “fair competition” in K-Pop among K-Idols. So personally, I’m boycotting all of them. What matters is that JYJ has finished the world tour, their album “In Heaven” was a resounding success and they are going now to rest and write more songs. That’s the best news I’ve had all week.

Maybe because that figure also includes all sales of TVXQ5 albums in 2011. I don’t know if we can call it an advantage or disadvantage of riding that TVXQ name, the effort of 2vxq is always haunted by the TVXQ’s shadows, but revenue and popularity wise, that’s the best decision they could take, but self worth and fulfillment ? tha’ts the big question!

I’m sorry but this is the most ridiculous post I’ve read all month.TVXQ is NOT the “best group” in any musical category for any award, not by a long shot. I think you must have come to the wrong site. this is JYJ3. We post here because we all love the music and admire the talent of JYJ.
I think this kind of comment is a bit sad. It’s like those people who ragged on the Japanese fans for not supporting JYJ when they did the best they could, and Bigeasts were really hurt. 1) you’ve seen the music stores get sold out 2) maybe they bought it by downloading online 3) they go to JYJ’s concerts
I just don’t think it’s fair to point fingers and say they don’t contribute to JYJ.
How do you know those numbers were not from Cassies? Besides, not everyone has money to spend on albums. You can still support JYJ in other ways.

JYJ never sold 350,000 albums. Those were shipment numbers.
