KARA and Kim Jaejoong Prove Popularity in Japan… Rank High in 2011 Hot Topics Ranking
JYJ’s Jaejoong, girl group KARA, and idol TVXQ has ranked high on the category of Enertainerson the 2011 Hot Topic Rankings released in Japan and so proved their popularity.
Japan’s Impress Watch announced rankings in twelve categories, e.g., often-used words among Japanese Twitter sers, hash tags, celebrities and such on the 14th, borrowing from the analysis from Big Robe.
Among these, JYJ’s Jaejoong ranked 2nd in the Celebrities category, following Japan’s popular idol AKB48. When accounting for the fact that AKB48 is receiving a popularity that is close to a syndrome in Japan, Jaejoong’s feat is to the degree of shock/surprise.
Continuing, TVXQ ranked 4th and the girl group KARA ranked 5th.
On April 19th, the day on which Jaejoong was most talked about on Twitter, Jaejoong had appeared in Aiko’s You that I Want to Meet which is a corner in Mezamashi, a morning total entertainment news program of Japan’s Fuji TV. KARA became a hot potato when the problem of the termination of its exclusive contract with management company arose.
The duration of record was January 2011, 4pm to November 1, 4pm. 6,849,886,070 tweets were subjects of the analysis.

HEL-LO!!? Welcome to the principality of Jaejoong. When did you have your first clue that Japan is “rather partial” to the young lad? Was THIS it? Really??
IKR?!
Hahaha!
This is a “Well, duh!” moment. Heh.
It’s Jae! What do you expect? LMAO.
I know!! “Shocking popularity” indeed!! lmao. Seriously, media?
@Nikki “Shocking popularity” indeed :>…. I think it has been long acknowledged among the citizens that JJ is relevant. We’ve seen it for ourselves how much he is loved over there. It’s even to the point that many still view him as the face of THSK even with the circumstances as they are… No duh. He’s been consistently hailed as the Prince of Japan. I assure you, they’re not surprised. Methinks this a subtle attempt to cover up the full extent of his reach in Japan.
I mean aren’t they call him Prince in Japan? Don’t they say things like “Welcome Home, Prince JaeJoong?” What is shocking is the fact the media still finds it shocking that JaeJoong and JYJ men are so popular? But, I am thankful to all of the journalists for reminding to all the old farts, geezers, wigs…please insert you favorite word that what they are doing to JYJ is not only hurting the boys, but they are also losing prospective revenue that could be earned by collaborating with the boys.
Well, honorable journalists, please do not stop reminding us about these young men popularity. I beg of you.
“What is shocking is the fact the media still finds it shocking that JaeJoong and JYJ men are so popular” – without a proper promotion whatsoever these three wonderful men will continue shocking the media. Just wait and see *popcornready*
yeaaa for my hubby jae ❤
but why do ppl like AKB48?? i watched one of their mv and it made me sick!
They have this one video where they are all in kimonos and wearing angel wings. That was kinda redundant to me but I really liked the song. Not all of their videos have them alluding to “sex” but unfortunately that is what these girls are famous for. I do see that some of them have a promise for more but in a group geared (let us be honest) to young men and…older men it becomes more about showing off your body while singing extra cute songs than developing any worthwhile talent. Then there is the fact that there are what? 50 something of them? Takes the seriousness out of that group.
When I see this ranking I get happy that JYJ are still in the thoughts of the Japanese people but…..I also worry that they are being treated like a fad and not like artists who are here to stay. Then I remember that JYJ are inactive in Japan and the fans want their situation to be known so they use twitter and such.
actually akb48 also have a lot female fans not just guys. u can see it when u watch fancams of their performances, u see a lot girls in singing to their songs. from little girls to grown women.
not all their videos are like heavy rotation. u should check out their other singles, i like beginner and ponytail no shushu.
SHOCKING !?? ROFLL PLEASE !!!! ^^
JUST BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE MOVE OF JYJ IN JAPAN ISN’T COVERED SO EXAGGERATED LIKE OTHER KPOP IDOLS’, IT DOES MEAN THAT JYJ AREN’T RELEVANT IN JAPAN ANYMORE ! So Has K-media all along thought that those new idols who constantly have their “number 1 oricon” bragged are more relevant than JYJ in japan ??!!! oh please !! Jaejoong himself can pass as a Japanese so yeah,,, k-media.. please don’t think that just because your “Kpop wave” hit number 1 in oricon means that they’re popular or sth… >.<
*nodind* I’m AGREE! 😀
100000% agreeee
+1…. I This! And I think JJ even joked that he was one x)) ….. If I’m not mistaken, various netizens have expressed this confusion of JJ’s nationality/ethnicity 😀
HI 5 @haphuong91
and I think Japanese people don’t care who’s #1 in Oricon in a given day, if they love the music they love it, be it #1 or even excluded in ranking, who cares, and that’s where JYJ’s popularity resides, it is in every Japanese Fan’s heart, not on any chart, tv shows, magazine, giant billboard or even bus/train/subways!
@Kris : every Japanese Fan’s heart, not on any chart, tv shows, magazine, giant billboard or even bus/train/subways!
This.. A+++++
so where the hell the #1 in oricon chart ?? troll .. troll hahaha
Agree!
Wow………………..they just noticed this now………………
But I guess anything goes to prove the ‘Hallyu’ wave….=_____=
Even though JYJ is still considered a JPop group.
And many still don’t know that Jejung is not Japanese……
I find it amusing though that it was ‘JYJ’s’ Jaejoong, ‘girl group’ Kara, and ‘idol’ TVXQ. It could have been boyband TVXQ but they decided to use idol…….
the power of words and their hidden or unhidden messages.
But I actually question whether JYJ plays a part in pushing up the popularity of the name “TVXQ”…. you know, it’s SUPPOSED to mean 5 members.
And no one can deny the fact that if anyone know Jaejoong or YooChun or JunSu, they may just google about them and viola! they were members of TVXQ and current members of JYJ.
@Shadow
“But I actually question whether JYJ plays a part in pushing up the popularity of the name “TVXQ”…. you know, it’s SUPPOSED to mean 5 members.”
I think that… of course they do continue to drive global popularity. Without these three seminal members, there IS no TVXQ. But many fans are not educated–not at all. Nor do they wish to be. They are casual fans of the earlier music and are not even particularly aware of changes to the line-up! This is of course what SM is literally banking on.
We can no longer really debate the “should they be called DBSK/TVXQ any more” question. It is a fait accompli. It’s happened and the members of JYJ have let it happen, for their own reasons. Of course, there are many here among us who would question those reasons, but for what purpose, really? It’s done. And that’s why SM is spending the money they are (and it’s MAJOR big bucks) to prop up Homin’s shaky hold on a career. As long as they have Homin, they have ~THE NAME~. That’s what they want and maybe, that’s really ALL they want. The more I see of Homin, the more I just have to shake my head and think, “are people crazy? Is THIS really enough to make a successful K-Pop group???” Maybe SM’s plan from the very beginning was to just milk the TVXQ name for all it was worth and then… well, we shall see what happens then.
@Lili
“…Maybe SM’s plan from the very beginning was to just milk the TVXQ name for all it was worth …”
I think that is exactly what SM wants to do.
Which explains why for years, they have been trying to get exclusive rights to that name but failed.
I don’t really mind if some non-fans mistaken JYJ as TVXQ (of which the 3 forms THE most important part of), as long as the antis do not say JYJ is using the name “TVXQ” for their own popularity. Honestly, the reverse is the truth!
Correction: “I don’t really mind if some non-fans mistaken JYJ as TVXQ for a start…”
You know what… I would love TVXQ topic was not here in JYJ3 anymore.
Please…
I love reading ur comments.
@SolangeJJ
Well, TVXQ = 5 members… and I’m not bashing anyone nor do I think my comments are ‘bad’.
That said, I’m ending this discussion here.
@pheonixia
“I find it amusing though that it was ‘JYJ’s’ Jaejoong, ‘girl group’ Kara, and ‘idol’ TVXQ. It could have been boyband TVXQ but they decided to use idol……”
To be honest though, one of my happiest days will be when JYJ finally sheds that “Idol” monniker as well as the “boyband” one. They now are neither one.
They are recording artists, they are stars, they are multi-faceted entertainers. They WERE Idols when they were under the SM system. They are no more.
@lilibaiyu IMO, they have redefined what it means to be a ‘boyband’ or ‘idol.’ They have long since transcended that class and the stereotypes that come along with it.
@lili
I think the “Idol” moniker will continue to follow JYJ as long as the boys embraces the term. True that they have become more than idols. JYJ will still be tagged as “idols” until they themselves will deny that moniker… which I believe will have a huge backlash on them considering their current situation. Maybe they can public claim that they are more than “idols” and now artist on their own rights after the situation with SM/Avex are done, back on mainstream entertainment industry and have solid track records as JYJ.
@jyjfanboy

Yes, I realize that day I was speaking of is a ways off. I understand, I really do, that JYJ is not about to rock the boat of their poor shell-shocked fans any more than they absolutely have to. I know that they feel that they shouldn’t have to “give up” anything including being called “Idols” — they only want to ADD to their legacy. But to my mind there is an unmistakable taint to the term that is all about the big entertainment agencies like SM and the inhuman ways in which they exploit young men and women. To me the term symbolizes so much that is bad and broken about the SK music business and LSM’s business model in particular. The latest affront is the fact that all of these online polls that we are being asked to vote on, all of the end of year awards being currently voted on ONLY include “Idol” groups, not the array of fine solo singers or SK indie bands. This is just crazy and WRONG. So that’s why I feel as I do.
@lilibaiyu, the writer wrote “‘JYJ’s’ Jaejoong” this is the prove that JYJ are not “Idol” and “boyband”, they are JYJ ^____^
agree… and their music is call JYJ-Pop
Agreed!
” Therefore, “I want to keep being called ‘idol’”, those words of JYJ’s member Kim Jaejoong come up with a fresh feeling. Kim Jaejoong said, “Even SMAP in Japan is appraised as idol for over 20 years. Being called idol is not bad. However, the important thing is what kind of idol we should become.”
From JJ side…I think he is fine if everyone still want to call him idol.
Okay, I’ve never left a comment mentioning this before but I can’t let this one go. The rules on this site are to focus on JYJ… and it’s looked down upon to say positive things about/bring Homin into the conversation, but then nobody does anything when fans speak negatively of them?? Please. Just don’t say anything at all, if it isn’t something encouraging. I’m sure none of our JYJ boys would be happy to hear fans speak negatively of or talk down on anyone that they’ve spent so many years working alongside with as a team. And honestly, these days, most everyone assumes TVXQ=Homin, DBSK= all five boys, and JYJ=…well, JYJ XD . Ugh. Seriously, though… I don’t mind not mentioning all five when talking about members of DBSK, but if anyone’s gonna say something, then don’t let it be negative okay?? Because they all deserve much more respect than, and fans are the last ones I wanna hear any of this junk from. Surely you don’t think us old fans don’t get on here as well, do you? I’ve been very careful not to offend anyone here so far (maybe I’ve ruined it now…?) but please, then, at least give me (and any other old Cassies) the same courtesy. If you have something negative to say about members already excluded from this site, then please just keep it to yourself because I’ve been tired and sick of it for years now, and this is supposed to be a safe haven. Until now, I haven’t said anything supporting the other boys while on this site… So let’s stick to the rules. Just don’t mention anyone other than JYJ here.
TVXQ was mentioned in the article. Its fair game at this point.
i dont like TVXQ the group right now ^___^
there, or should i say, i hate them? O.O
Hey CrystalCassiopeian,
May I leave a word or two, and hoping that through the dilemma that is the internet, it will not sound as if I am attacking you. There are a few points that needed clarification and that is the nature and rules of this site. Although I feel as though the admins would be best to explain it. So as a disclaimer, I am not speaking on behalf of the admins.
JYJ3 ruled that JYJ3 is a site to support all 3 members of JYJ so therefore OT5 fans who do come here, understand that this is not a site that ‘supports’ homin. It does not mean we should only focus on JYJ, if you visit the GAP (General All Purpose) post, you will see all sorts of conversations either on JYJ or non-JYJ. We, as members of the JYJ3 community would try and refrain speaking of TVXQ (transparent rule), however, it will eventually always come up. Unless the ties between JYJ and SM are over, it is doubtful that Homin is not spoken about.
Another thing is the nature of the readers of this site (at least through general consensus of the JYJ3 family since this site was open), that is probably difficult to accept is the fact that many of us (not everyone of course) do not have positive feelings when it comes to Homin. Some people are indifferent, and some are like you who dislike any negative mention of Homin. And from my experiences here at this site, the admins allow free flow conversations either positive or negative about other people other than JYJ. Unless JYJ is being bashed, then things would be corrected. It is an opinion piece and you have yours too. If this sounds like an anti-Homin site, it’s not. We do not spread false rumors or translate bits and pieces of articles to manipulate readers. But a number of JYJ3ers do have strong opinions about Homin so it is quite frankly, going to continue this way for a while.
p,s. this is strictly my opinion only and does not reflect the admins nor the rest of the readers here at JYJ3.
🙂 High5!
@Dee
Hi5 too! ^___^
Since you responded to my original post I would like to clearly state that I never once put any connotation to my original post. If you feel it is negative that is up to you.
If you think this is negative: “I find it amusing though that it was ‘JYJ’s’ Jaejoong, ‘girl group’ Kara, and ‘idol’ TVXQ. It could have been boyband TVXQ but they decided to use idol…….”
That is up to you to decide. I never once stated in my original post that the term idol or boyband is negative. JYJ themselves are somewhat idols. You are the one who decided it was bashing.
My view on Homin currently is: I don’t like autotune so I can’t get into any of their music. I have listened to every single track they have released though. Maybe one or two I liked but the more I listened they turned me off for some reason. I really want Changmin to release a solo album, Yunho is pulling him down currently even though he is the one with the larger fanbase. When Yunho goes to the military I hope SME allows Changmin to do some solo work so he can actually establish his fanbase. I think they just picked a different path then JYJ and I don’t understand why they should be hated for it. I do understand the hate they receive because of the comments they have released, their families have released, and the general attitudes of the fans of Homin. I am not going to hate them for that…..I do hope one of three punches them in the face for being so arrogant though (in private). I WANT them to become friends again, but I don’t want them to become a singing group again. Also, most of the Homin fans I have met in RL are misinformed about the lawsuit and strongly biased against JYJ. I still try to be friends with them though.
@CrystalCassiopeian
You know…. there are SO many other sites for you to go to, happily, feeling as you do. I would suggest that you do that because from the entirety of your post you don’t seem like a good fit for JYJ3. You don’t seem to grasp the guidelines here and you obviously have not been happy with the content you’ve found. That’s fine, we’re pretty unique in our perspective and there are many other sites that probably more closely conform to your views: my first thought would be SYC.com.
Honestly speaking now, I think it’s probably not realistic for you to expect the ladies and gentlemen who are currently regulars here on JYJ3 to adhere to your parameters of how you’d like things to be, what you’d like to see here content-wise and how we are to behave. That, I’m reasonably sure, is simply not going to happen.
A++++++++++++++++ my dear LILI 😀
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ XD
Your reguest is reasonable. I think all reasonable people should respect it. I mean, we should do to others what we want others to do unto us. If we want HoMin fansites to not bash JYJ unnecessarily then we must show an example first. If both sides of the group are getting on with their lives (careers) then fans have to respect that and let them go their seperate ways. We all (Cassies of DBSK5) loved them all equally once (excluding biases). Some of us might have let go of that love for one half of the group, but that doesn’t mean we cut out and threw away the heart that once loved them. Because we loved them with that much passion before, there’s still embers of that love that has not been completely snuffed off for some of us. We may not be tailing them now, but there’s still some respect left for the love that was. Let us keep that respect intact, otherwise our love would have been just lies. Lies that makes a mockery of our present love for the half we’ve chosen to follow (JYJ or HoMin). No bashing please! Peace.
“If we want HoMin fansites to not bash JYJ unnecessarily then we must show an example first.”
There’s no bashing in this post, just opinions.=_=
If there was a personal attack on them (such as their morals or looks, etc), it would be bashing. There is no such comment being made.=_=
@bmw81187
Exactly~ I wonder if we are all reading the same thing coz I didn’t see any bashing in the comments.
>_>
Actually i read carefully and try to find that “bashing comment”… about homin, but where’s exactly ? i just read a conversation about SME using DBSK name for they own benefit or sorry maybe I’ve missed it ? i think i should read again more carefully…..
Hi Crystal Cassiopeian,
I think the Rules aren’t very clear for you, Let me explain it.
Only OT5 Fans can’t talk about HM here just to prevent they spazz about them, bothering other fans and confusing this site as an OT5 Fansite.
Since this is a JYJ’s Fansite, JYJ’s fans have more freedom to talk about other issues and artists, positively or negative, and we can’t prevent the talk about HM by JYJ’ fans.
You may think We are being biased but of course this site is created mainly for pure JYJ’s fans but we welcome OT5 Fans too, I understand If you don’t like some comments, my advise for you it’s try just to read the news.
Thanks admin 🙂
Admins are daebak 😀
@CrystalCassiopeian Respect is something you have to earn. FYI.
Personally, I don’t hate Homin but I dislike them what they said and did.
wonderfull.
jyj is the best.
WOW!! AMAZING!!!
Jaejoong all the way! 😀
JAEJOONG Prince in Japan so what do you think ?
Jae so proud!!!!.
JYJ keep climbing to the top slowly but steady.
The taste of success is gonna be much better.
OMJ .. oh my Jae … JYJ’s Jaejoong after all .. what could I say more .. Jae is really2 The Prince of Japan from Korea .. from Korea the country that seems like dont care about their national treasure JYJ

im shocked coz they get a shock over this. Seriously…………….
😀
🙂 🙂
^_______^
Jaejoong, prince of Japan ^^
Jaejoongie ahhhhh, so proud of you >”<
JYJ is the best!!!
if K-media stops being ignorant and dares to cover news about JYJ more extensively, they won’t find this shocking at all. We fans have all known about JYJ’s, especially Jaejoong’s, popularity in Japan since forever. Why else could these 3 awesome men attract 80,000 people from all over Japan to their 2 day concert in a remote area if not because they’re well loved and relevant there? All hail the Prince of Japan! Jaejoong, you’re always my bias, love and pride. ❤
@Angie “if K-media stops being ignorant and dares to cover news about JYJ more extensively, they won’t find this shocking at all. ”
Exactly! MTE…
*nod**nod*
yup u right
“Why else could these 3 awesome men attract 80,000 people from all over Japan to their 2 day concert in a remote area if not because they’re well loved and relevant there?’
this… and may i add its happen without blowing promotion like any other KPop Band do ..
ehemmmmm…
JAEJOONG HAS NOT BEEN CALLED VISUAL SHOCK FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!
hheheh
He’s called that? Really?
You didn’t know?? *gasps for air*
hey why dont u ask if she’s a new fan first
He named his dog after fans calling him that. They called him Visual shock and based off of that title he named his dog Vick! ^^
thank u @pheonixia @belle @miaw
there are always new fans coming here so we appreciate any news be it old/new..it helps us understand JYJ much better ^^
@ilangilang, where’ve u been? ^__^
i think she/he really new for this so please don’t to hard to him/her
JJ got that name from the media. It’s because his pict always give visual shock to photographer…As i remember it also mention something about his beautiful face…(There’s article about it before. It’s loooong loong time ago.(.Around 06/07 0_o??) Not sure if it still exist..^^…) later, fans start give the nick name to him…..(well, even media recognize him by this nickname….)
shocking ? there’s nothing shocking about this, it’s Jae, the Prince of Japan ! seriously, K-media….
i’m proud even more to know that others are GROUP while he’s one PERSON only.
Jae’s forever relevant in Japan ! ^_^
I know right! It’s like he is enough to take on a group XD So happy for him! I find it so telling that JYJ, a group who doesn’t get to promote as often with shows and all, beat all the groups promoting crazily (not that promoting is bad, in fact, I hope JYJ gets to promote more, so we can see their faces in variety.. miss them T.T).
and Seriously? Shocking….. Where have you been, reporter? North Pole?
ckckckckckck………K-media really very to late for every news that happen with our boys especially Jae in Japan
congrats Jejungie ^^
So who 1st` ?
AKB48 i think
because from long time ago he always be no 1 or 2 alongside with those girlband
Please write some Japanese songs pleaseeeeeee :3
YES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! You can release them through CJes!
Shocking??
Yes, I’m really shocking for the Korean media…were have you been??
But, better late than never.
weee ~ JJ !!!!!!!!!!!!
why am I surprise that Korea’s got shock on JJ popularity?
Coz you don’t want to acknowledge and still underestimating JJ’s power being the Prince of Japan and Asia!
U know what makes it even more awesome ?
Its that he’s just one person and the others are groups ! That’s our prince of japan <33
Btw I'm not surprised that akb48 are #1 since they are like 48(?) members ! Of course the tweets will be more , right ?
And yeah what's with the shocking surprise korean media ?? Seriosuly , where have u been living ? And that's with 0 promtions too ! The boys is just too loved there ! And he deserve it
really well said…^^
*nod nod*
give @megajaefan cookies….
Japan’s prince will be forver Jae. 😀
