Group JYJ’s member Kim Junsu made a meteoric rise as “the next Jo Seungwoo.”
All the tickets of Kim Junsu’s 20 shows of musical ‘Elisabeth,’ which started on 8th, were sold out as soon as the ticket sale has started. This means 34,000 tickets of the hall with 1,700 seats were sold out in around ten minutes. Considering the average ticket price is 100,000Won (89USD), 3.4billion Won (3,026,257 USD) flowed in an instant.
Kim Junsu made contract for 30 shows with the production company of ‘Elisabeth.’ Ticket sale for 10 shows in April and May has not begun yet. They, however, would be sold out with current trend. Thus, we can calculate that musical fans spent around 5.1 billion won (30 shows x 17000 seats x100,000Won) (4,539,385USD) to watch the shows of Kim Junsu.
Kim Junsu’s musicals ‘Mozart,’ ‘Tears of Heaven,’ and ‘Elisabeth’ continue to be sold out. We can confirm Kim Junsu’s position in Musical industry regarding the fact that tickets of shows of Song Changui and Ryu Junghan (2 other cast of Tod for ‘Elisabeth’) are not sold out yet.
A musical official stated “the only musical actors who sell out all the tickets as soon as the sale begins are Jo Seungwoo and Kim Junsu. That is the reason why Kim Junsu is called as ‘the next Jo Seungwoo.’
Kim Junsu’s pay scale has not reached as high as that of Jo Seungwoo yet due to lack of career in musical. Kim Junsu decided not to overtax raising his pay scale but to participate in production.
Kim Junsu’s agency explained “the agency participates in the production of musical and gives part of profits to Kim Junsu. It is like a running guarantee. This system does not pull down the order of the industry as he does not require high guarantee, but empowers Kim Junsu at the same time.”

running guarantee – the amount JS will get is based on the number of ticket sales on the day of his performance. he’s been doing this running guarantee since ToH.
if JS will not do this, most likely his fee will be even higher than Jo Seung Woo,

A running guarantee is a form of payment for those involved in the making of a movie such as directors, actors, and staff, where their proceeds are directly affected by how well the movie sells.

So if I understand it right.. Junsu does not ask for high talent fee for his appearance but he allow the “could have been given amount” to be invested in the production.. so he is like being part investor that collects share on the profit after the musical is done and all the expenses has been taken cared of..

Nice move for C-Jes and Junsu… instead of being paid higher, they opted to be producers of the musical thus if the musical sell out then they get higher profit. Just like what Tom Cruise did in Mission: Impossible franchise… clever business move!

I ´m trying to figure out how much our duckbutt theoretically gets from this one musical. Here is my short calculation, based mostly on assumptions.
His talent fee = cca 20 USD per ticket (that was his fee in Mozart and he probably gets at least the same now). 30 shows x 1700 seats = 51.000 tickets. x 20 USD = 1.020.000 USD (wow). C-JeS probably takes a cut from it, but I guess not more then 20%.
Percentage from profit from the investment into the musical – depends on how much he/c-jes invested. The budget for the whole musical is ca 10 mio USD, the planned revenue from ticket sale is around 15 mio USD (if all tickets would be sold out), makes a profit of 50 cents per invested dollar. If he would invest 2 mio, he would get 1.000.000 USD of the profit (minus percentage for C-JeS of course).
How much he gets from merchandise is hard to figure out, but I thing that could be another few hundert thousand USD, because most of his audience are his personal fans, many travel as far as from Japan and want to bring something back with them, and merchandise is in most cases really overpriced (productions costs are far less then 50% of the selling price).
Conclusion: if he and c-jes were smart and invested at least those 2 mio USD, the netto profit for Junchan alone (after C-JeS gets its cut, but before income taxes) probably lies somewhere around $ 2.000.000. Yeh, our dolphin is a little bit richer now.
