JYJ attended a press conference before their first ever South American concert on March 8th (local time), and addressed the controversy surrounding the group, and their thoughts about holding their first South American concert.
The group has found themselves the most talked about topic of the week with audio files, recorded back in 2009, belatedly being revealed to the public on March 6th.
The members entered the press conference with dark expressions on their faces. The boys began by revealing some of the hardships they had endured due to the actions of sasaeng fans. “Ever since debuting in 2004, we suffered from sasaeng fans everyday for eight years.”
Yoochun stated, “Having someone watching me every second, and following me around wanting to share every thing, is like being in a prison without bars.”
Junsu also added sadly, “They exposed all our phone calls, GPS-tracked our cars and secretly chased us around, and even frequently broke in and took pictures of our personal items. They even tried to kiss me while I was sleeping, and they even caused a minor collision between their taxi and the car we were in to try to see my face. A fear choking the breath out of me would wash over me everyday, and I just want to at least live like a person through this indescribable suffering.”
The group then issued an official apology for causing their fans to worry with the outbreak of the controversy. Jaejoong, stated, “I’m sorry for my wrong doings in the past… I’m sorry that many fans have been heart-sick due to this issue. From now on, no matter how mentally hard, or how far beyond the limit the situation is, we will think about all the people who love us, and for them we will not falter and fulfill our responsibility as public figures.”

The group then went on to discuss their thoughts and feelings on becoming the first ever Korean artist to hold their own concert in Chile (March 9th) and Peru (March 11th).
Junsu stated, “I’m so surprised that we have many fans in Chile and Peru, where we have never visited before, and so happy that we can perform here.”
Jaejoong added, “We never thought we’d be able to come to South America. It was hard to believe that there were fans here who liked our music, but after seeing all the fans who came to greet us at the airport, we’ve come to believe it.”
With the problems they experienced on their journey as a bird got sucked into the propellers of the plane that was supposed to carry them from LA to Chile, the members lightheartedly stated, “We hope there will be a flight that goes directly from Korea to South America.”
Jaejoong revealed their future hopes as he stated, “Until a few years ago, even if we performed just in Asia and one place in the U.S., the term ‘word tour’ was used. However, we have traveled all over the world including Asia, Europe, U.S., and South America. We take pride in having a true world tour. Having come to South America, we feel that there are even more countries to visit. We look forward to our second, and even third world tour.”
In related news, the group’s concerts have drawn much attention from the locals as well as the media. As if to evidence their popularity, 400 fans showed up at the airport to see the group arrive at the airport.

Which guilty ones? The Dispatch for their smear campaign (and with out naming names, speculating on who was really behind this?!) or the beyond crazy ‘sasaeng’ girls? ‘Cause I’m thinking the sasaengs don’t feel they’re doing anything wrong so therefore feeling “guilt” is a foreign concept to them.
My sentiments exactly. I really wish they were not as polite as they are. I know the guys are as strong as can be, enduring everything that comes their way from the beginning to now. But please, you have nothing to apologize for. Being human is not a crime. Oh well. This I will have to accept about them. 🙂 But for me, there’s a limit.

I agree with you both. Although of course, JYJ had to address the rumors and the media furor about the reports in some way and now they have done that. And yes, now ALL the OTHER guilty parties need to apologize and, IMHO repent their behavior. Will they? Will the Dispach apologize? Will the saesangs? Probably not. The saddest thing of all right now is that the VICTIMS in all of this are the only ones who have apologized.

You are ill-informed. And your conclusions are in marked contrast to every reality we’ve seen. None of the members were the aggressors, they were defending themselves against rude, aggressive saesangs when moves had been made against their persons. JYJ loves their fans and shows it CONSTANTLY. We have seen countless videos of the members politely greeting their POLITE fans.
With saesangs – different story. They are fed up by this time as anyone would be who had endured what they have had to endure. These deranged girls are engaging in criminal behavior against them, whether the police and gov’t of SK want to acknowledge that or not. The members have a right to protect and defend themselves.

JYJ decided to take the higher ground in this instance because they are the ones who’ve been grievously wronged. Apologizing to heartbroken and worried fans is good; IMO, they’ve done no wrong!

Why are you apologizing for? I want all the idiots to come out and apologize for their harassment and mental hurt. From now, I will become very judgemental and will start strongly criticize those who systematically continue to abuse these men just because they can. I just cannot wrap my mind around a country that does not have laws that protect people. Even here in the States restraining orders can only go but so far. This is what worries me too. I had a peeping tom hanging around my house once years ago, & it didn’t take him long before he got up the courage to try & break in. Luckily I moved house the next week. That so many people aren’t taking this seriously is just baffling to me.

To be honest, your worst case doesn’t feel like a worst case to me. I would be glad if one for them stops and is safe, even if it means no more music. I can live with that. MY biggest fear is that one of these crazies decides that if she can’t have him, no one can. But WAY before that happens, somebody at C-jeS has got to call a meeting and a total re-think of their security procedures needs to happen ASAP after they get back. Is it even possible that C-jeS didn’t know the extent of the problem?? Well, whatever whoever did or didn’t know, now EVERYBODY knows the extent of the threat and changes must be made. Big bodyguards, enough to shield them, must be hired and used when saesangs are present. I am kind of late on this discussion, but what it comes down is: very tight security, as some of you said, big huge bodyguards, who keeps everyone a block away. I don’t care if fans come to see them, if people can’t control themselves, then they should stay at the distance. It’s not like we are going to see any changes in their society and culture any time soon.
I am sorry that Peru fans did not get to see them at the airport, but I love how Noizu handled the situation…and then gave fans a chance to see them at the hotel from a safe place.

So the audio is real?
According to Chinese fans, some of it is Jaejoong’s voice but there are parts that doesn’t match (background noise, etc) with the rest of the clip and those parts were the swearing. Most people think it’s the Antis on the attack again, they added the cussing to an audio clip with Jaejoong’s real voice and then blamed JYJ for “hurting” their “fans.”
Also Jaejoong apologized for making the fans worry and not for cussing/hurting the sasaeng fans so he is neither denying or confirming that the audio is real.

I have always heard that YC has been the fierce one to respond to Sasaengs… There are lots of videos of YC having some “unsmooth” communications with “fans”.. Well, believe they are Sasaeng.. and I have heard a fan says YC take a camera from a her and took out the memory card and put it in the coffee cup.. I didnt understand why he did that … But since that time I ve always believed that YC will not do this without a reason… Now i got to see the whole picture and well, I think he is really cool!!!!!! ❤

Do you guys remember their Japanese song “Break out”? Where each member expressed their fears in the MV? Chun’s fear was innocent looking kids who turned out to be devilish the minute he started smiling back at them, Jae’s was about numerous hands of invisible people grabing for him at every turn, and Su’s was getting old. From these fears, at least from JaeChun, you can actually get that the boys had been psychologically affected by these atrocious fans.

Those who did wrong would finally be responded and suffer from their actions in some way. I hope the issue of saseang fans problems has turned into social awareness and someone really takes actions to solve the problems. It’s not just to improve idols’/stars’ living conditions, but also the stars’ neighborhood or people who are affected from behaviors of these saseang fans. There should be some way to make these girls grow up and be more responsible to society. JYJ, what you have been through not only raise awareness of so-called slave contract and fight for your freedom, but also bring this saseang issue into spotlight. Well for starters this is NOT in Korea and there is other press attending not just korean press.
This issue about obsessed, lunatic saseang fans can be brought into the light globally…. Korea CANNOT sweep nor hide this issue as if it never was. Now globally/ internationally people WILL KNOW about the embarassing saseangs.
And in my mind I think more sympathy and forgiveness and support will be showered upon JYJ…..
Also the way they apologised is very mature and well thought out. This is not some half assed apology. This is done with poise and dignity.
They have their bases covered. Therefore in the future when……and I say WHEN not IF because we all know that this type of amateur, vomit worthy journalism will never stop…….some monkey media tabloid decides to release more of these so called “abuse” files .. people will with half a brain will know that there is a reason behind it.

I don’t doubt for one minute that this is a very shrewed PR move. Park JaeEun is a very savvy PR professional. And I do get the fact that the effect is practically calling out the ‘other’ side and telling them, we are taking this issue globally; but I am beyond not wanting to call these leeches out. Today without knowing about this apology, I sent a tweet to Jaejoong apologizing to him, saying it was all the fans’ fault. I don’t think they did anything wrong. I also heard the story that a sasaeng said about Yuchun taking her memory card from her camera and dropping it in her coffee. I actually thought that was a very appropriate response to her stalking him.
All of this falls in the category of the Korean govt. doing nothing to protect them. They claim their every victory for the hallyu wave and do absolutely nothing to help and defend them. JYJ take all the burden on themselves, forgiving and loving as usual.
But what I hear from this is JYJ talking to the fans and explaining what really has to change. In addition, it doesn’t mention it in this account, but they talked about the issue of piracy. To me they were apologizing and at the same time asking for the fans to change. Stop stalking them and watching stalking videos and pics, and stop stealing their work by illegally sharing it. Rather than focusing on whether or not they should have apologized, I prefer to focus on their message to the fans.

those sasaengs are definitely not their genuine fans…but yes, as JYJ fans we should also be role models for fellow fans too, or “even police our own ranks”- to respect JYJs private lives & properties, to respect their boundaries in as much that each one of us would demand to be accorded with the same kind of respect too.
JYJ may be public figures, but they are not our properties, not our toys, not our objects to fill-in our voids and deprivations in life. They deserve our utmost respect just like any human being in this world!

I second kementari’s comment. True, it’s better to address this issue outside korea. I think if they talk about it in their country, people may just take it for granted and half-heartedly.
And i love that they are smart enough to address it: feeling sorry for the fans is a nice gesture, showing they are appreciative and know their real fans feeling. On the other hand, they dont say sorry at all for the sasaeng. That’s how its done, poised and mature.

I’m just a reader of JYJ3 and I didn’t know where to put this or what to do with the information. I ask that all JYJ’s true fans be strong because KBS is preparing another attack on the boys. Over on twitter, fans are screaming for justice against the bullying tactic that is being launched against JYJ. KBS is saying it will release more evidence tomorrow night against the boys. There is also a rumour that KBS plans to interview the “Privates” so please please please voice out and demand that the station not broadcast such stupidity. The boys have had enough and they have apologized.
I only hope that CJES intervenes for the boys and shuts this bullying down.

Plus Yuchun is so visible on tv from his wonderful cfs. Just blocking them on tv isn’t working, so this is their new tactic.
In politics they bring out these dirty tactics, digging up something from people’s past, when there is no other way to stop the other candidate. In other words, they realized that they are losing. And by they, I mean the ever present silent enemy, SME and their various collaborators, including media outlets and prejudiced fans of other artists.
I can’t blame them if they did that in the past… invading their privacy and doing irritating things… they’re just humans! Of course in time being they will lose their cool.

Regardless of what happen, I deeply believe in JYJ’s Principles, Integrity and Faith. Period.
i feel like my heart is divided into two; on one hand i feel JYJ have been subjected to criminal harassment and should not be apologising, on the other, their apology was a smart move. our boys are three of the smartest idols around, not in a shrewd, manipulative way, but in a mutually beneficial way for them and fans everywhere. i believe the reason for their apology was because:
1) they did do wrong in the past. be it hitting, lashing out, cussing, whatever it is, if anyone of them retaliated to a psycho, it is politically correct to say they did wrong. the politically correct thing to do would be to walk away. but they are human. even for us, a simple lie told, may not be a big issue, but in our hearts, we still know we did a lil wrong..if we are truly pure in our heart, we would feel a tinge of guilt. that’s probably how they are feeling. but whatever it is, it is in the past, and they regret their actions. they are being the bigger man here by taking the situation into their control by releasing a statement.
2) they feel responsible for their true fans’ feelings. due to the actions of those sadists, they feel they have somehow implicated us into having such hard time about this issue, because we love them and they know it. they are not feeling sorry at all for those sickos, instead they are expressing their sincere sorrow for us, the fans. yes, after this apology many asshole sources might attempt to implicate and destroy JYJ further, but one thing JYJ have the upper hand to is they are speaking nothing but the truth. liars will twist and turn their words, but JYJ will be able to sleep better at night.
these statements will allow everyone to see what they’ve gone through behind-the-scenes..anyone with half a brain will go do their own research to get more understanding of the matter. if i were a celebrity,i would wanna keep every potential scandal info to a minimum, and not breathe a word during public events. as they say, out of sight, out of mind. but what JYJ have done here is truly admirable; they are not afraid of telling the world what is happening to them, why? simply because it is the truth..and they want to be set free. above all, they are taking everything into their stride, and wish to move on for the better.

I just realized that I admire JYJ more for openly discussing what happens w/ their saesang fans and apologized for it. I really admire them for not telling lies, denying nor confirming. I agree w/ JJ’s statement at press con regarding sasaeng case. He said, “I’m sorry for my wrong doings in the past… I’m sorry that many fans have been heart-sick due to this issue. From now on, no matter how mentally hard, or how far beyond the limit the situation is, we will think about all the people who love us, and for them we will not falter and fulfill our responsibility as public figures.”
It’s a good PR move to lower down negative reactions of public (especially non-fans who knows about this case) towards them also obtaining clearer image+trustworthy as well-known public figure.
What I thought about sasaeng:
1) Sasaeng is a fans who loves their idols BUT in EXTREMELY NEGATIVE way. Most of them are underage girl and mid 30’s lonely rich woman
2) Reason why underage girl act like that probably b|c they received lack of parents’ attention and love affection, due to parents hectic work schedule nor divorced parents. At that age, attention and love affection are very important. Also, they have unstable emotions
3) They don’t have supportive family member or friends around them and they might feel extremely lonely b|c nobody cares about them. Then, they found someone they adore so much which is idols and they desperately wanting to receive love back from idols (it’s like an unrequited love). Unfortunately, they tend to do extreme aggressive moves in order to get what they wanted. This actions will endangering themselves, idols and their family member also surroundings
I REALLY HATE SASAENG ACTIONS!!! But when I think more about it, I can’t fully blame them b|c they’re incomplete product of society…there are many factors involved.
I think it would be better if we try to understand inner reason why they act like that, try to approach them in positive way also try to persuade them to stop their BAD HABITS. If we keep throw anger on them, they WILL NEVER listen to us and the worst thing is they will DID MORE CRAZY ACTIONS than before because no legal authority can stop them.

I have a slightly different solution to yours. I feel that if they truly cannot be held accountable for their actions due to their being under-age then their parents must be. They must be prosecuted for their negligence and for harming society by allowing their daughters to do these terrible things. This is like allowing a vicious dog to roam the streets. When it bites someone, the owners are held accountable for their negligence. And what about the “30 year olds” – the “lonely rich women”?? Why can’t THEY be arrested and prosecuted? What’s their excuse? This situation continuing on as it is is just RIDICULOUS. And somebody, somewhere in that country has to do something.
I’m glad the boys did this. It just show how mature they are to admit to something instead of staying in the dark and hoping for it to go away. I liked the way Jae apologised, my respect for him and YooSu has grown even more than what it was before this issue. JYJ thsnk you for being adults about this. Best of luck in the future babies~
I usually don’t respond to the posts, but I really feel the need to add my 2 cents worth in. I love and respect the boys. I always have and I always will. They way they do what they can for people in need. Japan after the quake. Thailand after the flood. Their association with “World Vision”. These are all ways they show their love for their fans, and people in general. They have given hours of beautiful music. Their voices fill my hours with music that I enjoy listening to. Watching their exploits by reading JYJ3 have given my life moments of laughter, moments of sadness, and moments of anger. The range of emotions that I feel includes joy. Joy that I could know these 3 special people. Listen to their beautiful voices singing beautiful songs. Watching the dramas they star in. Wishing I could see one of Junsu’s musicals. Knowing that I will never see them in person, but content to just listen to them sing, watch their concerts from the DVDs I buy.
Although I do no speak Korean, I love listening to their songs. I rarely read an English translation to find out what they’re singing. I just enjoy the feeling I get from listening to them sing. The feeling they convey in the song transense language. The fact that they really enjoy what they do, shows through in their actions. They are three exceptional young men who deserve the love of their fans. But we in return should respect their privacy. That is the least they deserve for giving us so much joy.
