JYJ member Kim Junsu’s role ‘Death’ in the musical is in the center of attention. In ‘Elisabeth’, his role is a transcendent character that follows Elisabeth around and seduces her with the desired freedom which only he can give to her.
In fact, the special characteristic of the role Tod is in the combination of songs and choreography rather than his lines in the musical. Therefore, if Kim Junsu’s acting in the role ‘Tod’ was set aside, the musical could be mistaken as a small unique musical concert.
From a soft ballad or a thrilling dance song to a sweet yet sorrowful duet, the songs flowing through his lips in each scene are painted with various colours. Even the sound of his breath seems like a poem being recited, one moment he came closer and whispered the murmurs of sweet love; the next moment he shouted and burst out like fireworks, showing the Black Devil’s allure. With a sexy and detailed choreography added up, his stage was sublimated into a supreme performance.
‘The last dance’ is the highlight of the show where the audience can feel Kim Junsu’s full energy. There is no need to include any further explanation; this scene is enough to explain why he was casted by the producers and why his ability was acknowledged by some of the greatest artists in the world like Robert Johanson or Sylvester Levay.
The superb scene which can only be seen in the combination of Kim Junsu’s ‘Tod’ and the ensemble ‘Angels of the Death’ stands out from the rest. It was a moment where not only Elisabeth but everyone in the audience fell for the allure of ‘Death’. The addictive melody and a strong performance which no one can take their eyes off for just a single moment have lifted the climax of his devotion and perfection higher.
The overwhelming ovation when Kim Junsu appears at the curtain call reminds of an actual concert. Getting up out of the seat, everyone in the audience clapped their hands while singing along or swaying their shoulders to the rhythm, and enhanced the sound intensity of the concert hall to the maximum.
After enjoying fully the climax of the show, even when the light in the hall was on, the audiences still haven’t realized that they have get up out of their seats for a good while. The excitement of the audience couldn’t fade away at all. That is the power to portray ‘Tod’ from a different dimension of the musical genius Kim Junsu.

“Genious Junsu!” enough said….fighting!!
Dang. Amazing review! Good for you Eja News! 😀
So proud of uri XiahTod!^^
Yeah! This IS an amazing review!! So well-written and full of Junsu praising haha!
I was really happy to see this today because I was wondering more about the reception of Junsu’s performance in Elisabeth. We keep getting curtain call fancams and pictures and stuff and endless articles about how the tickets are selling like hotcakes lol, but what I REALLY wanted to know is what everyone actually thinks of Junsu’s portrayal of ‘Death’! (Since we all know he’s completely dedicated to it~ I want to hear how his work is paying off^^)
“Even the sound of his breath seems like a poem being recited,”
LOL! THIS SOUNDS LIKE I WROTE IT LOLOLOLOL (seriously wondering if the author is a Junsu fangirl ahhahaha)
“one moment he came closer and whispered the murmurs of sweet love”
Ohmy. (..the thoughts this gave me mwuahaha. So jealous of that Elisabeth~)
Ah~ Just yesterday I slammed my fists down on my desk after looking at the pictures of his last performance lol. He’s just SO immersed in his role. And it killllllllls me that I can’t see him kill it!
I think it was a fanaccount I read? And the girl was saying how Junsu completely nailed the role (especially in comparison to one of the other Death’s she got the chance to see who just didn’t deliver it as much). Everything about him..his mannerisms and movement, like he ate the script or something and now this ‘Death’ character is just exuding from his every pore. Awesome rightt?? (Although..she said she didn’t think his voice fit the role or something?….But..Butilovejunsu’svoice.)
“That is the power to portray ‘Tod’ from a different dimension of the musical genius Kim Junsu.”
Love that.
I’m always saying HOW DO YOU EXIST!? (I hate you blah blah blah ). I’ve come to accept this. Kim Junsu is just an unfathomable concept.
He’s not of this Earth. Nope. Of that I’m convinced.
{{I bet he was really happy if he had the chance to read this himself!! <3}}
junsu’s perfection of Tod makes him a musical genius, wish i can watch him perform live

A++++++++++++++++++++++++
@u@
Junsu deserves the best @u@
omg that is one hell of a review
So happy that Su’s ability, dedication and sheer hard work is being acknowledged, not just his ‘ticket power’. Although the rest of the cast is excellent too, he is the star who commands the stage, shines the brightest and captures the audience’s hearts.
People have a poor view of idols acting in musicals, becos’ of those idols who really shouldn’t be anywhere a musical stage but still dabble in it. Su is way above them. So I do hope that one day he can be seen as a bona fide musical actor who attracts musical-lovers in droves too. Such articles (and a Best Musical Actor award) will help to change the unfair perception of him.
p.s. I really like seeing “JYJ’s _______” in articles about their individual activities, becos’ each of them are bringing pride and recognition to their group’s name, at a time when JYJ is persona non grata in the entertainment world. Readers will think – wow, JYJ must be such an awesome band if their members are so good! And it is true. ^_^
wow intoxicated , love every word in this post
” So happy that Su’s ability, dedication and sheer hard work is being acknowledged, not just his ‘ticket power’. Although the rest of the cast is excellent too, he is the star who commands the stage, shines the brightest and captures the audience’s hearts.” #u#
‘ People have a poor view of idols acting in musicals, becos’ of those idols who really shouldn’t be anywhere a musical stage ‘ yeah cause their company is the one that orders and throws them in for it , for the money not that they actually decide to do it themselves.
‘ I really like seeing “JYJ’s _______” in articles about their individual activities, becos’ each of them are bringing pride and recognition to their group’s name ‘ its also rewarding for us fans we get to see so many things not just one event @u@ stop me if that’s wrong but isn’t it better to also have solo and not just be grounded for group works , JYJ offer us more by going both group and solo cause its like offering us four type of events not just one. @u@
@pierrot dear
“JYJ offer us more by going both group and solo cause its like offering us four type of events not just one”
JYJ have a huge advantage as all-round entertainers (singing, acting, CFs) cos’ they can “cross sell’ their “products”. I’ve liked some actors before, like Jang Geun Suk, Lee Seung Gi, Yoon Kye Sang (2nd lead in Greatest Love), but the liking doesn’t last longer than the week after I finish the drama. I know they sing too but it’s a sideline for them.
Whereas JYJ’s singing career is rightly their base/main platform, becos’ we can constantly hear or watch them on YT and each time we get more enamoured with them. Their appearance in dramas/musicals is just a bonus for existing fans and a great way to attract new fans. And each JYJ member has such strong and unique appeal on his own, put them together and you get a triple whammy – a really powerful group. You’ll surely fall in love with at least one of them. 🙂
@u@ yup i heard ‘ actually read : P ‘ one fan said she wants all three of them , they already make fans greedy #w#
@intoxi
Pressing imaginary LIKE and LOVE buttons,
no need to say more except “I’m always proud to be a fan of Kim Junsu!”
Oh let this be on DVD or Korea decide to cover full performances of “Elizabeth” in TV shows…..let this be on DVD, I want to see Junsu as “Death”….
Yes!! DVD please!!
¡OMG!! I love this article on Junsu’s acting as Tod. The stage was made just for him to show his extraordinary abilities as an actor, singer and dancer. His breath…….. I want the DVD as well …… Please ………. @__@
i love this article too! full of praise for someone who deserves it as he does put his all into the things he undertakes—to perfection. i really wish i could see it live. and breath the same air for a couple of hours and just be blown away by his wonderful performance too.
So proud of him! 😀
I love every word of this article/review! It makes me so proud – watching over his progress for almost 4, his hard work, determination and perseverance have all paid off very well. He has always indeed been an outstanding performer, musically gifted and deserving of praise. But because he was an “idol”, people overlooked his talent and attributed his success to his “looks” and other things. Now he is an acclaimed musical actor, despite having only done 3 musicals (with high success!).
I’m so proud of him! I feel like a proud momma m( * v * )m
Kim Junsu, fighting!!
“even when the light in the hall was on, the audiences still haven’t realized that they have get up out of their seats for a good while” I want to be there T___T even though with only 1-2mins fancams and i know my heart has been completely captivated by his fierce expression as Death~~ this is making my life harder now hehe how to save enough money for both ost and musical dvd XPPP
Posting this here for my fellow Junsu Lovers.
Full Stage…. before Junsu comes down the steps… Junsu’s voice is braking the sound barrier in this one…. 🙂
Wow this was an amazing review of Junsu performance!!!! I too am so happy it focus on Junsu performance in detail!!!!! I truely wish I could see this musical. Hopefully there will be a dvd made.
Musical genius? I like that nickname.
