I try to watch the latest masterpieces of that mighty and arrogant company, the EXO Mama with 23 teasers before its release and the GIRLS’ GENERATION-TTS_TWINKLE_Music Video released April 30 which presently has 12.6 million views. It’s so ironic to see the quality and complexity of the work of the amateurs (in terms of composing and production) Junsu/Juno/Cjes vs. the full force POWER of SM. I can tell that SM’s product development team is watching Tarantallegra MV now, and might be seriously taking down notes or else they will be embarrassed with their future releases.

This sort of dynamic was what I was watching with the indie band Aziatix. These guys are also Unaffiliated. No label, no powerful entertainment company backing them and telling them what to do and how high to jump, no nothing. ALL they have going for them is a few guys with massive track records, massive talent, great songs, stellar production values every time out and brilliant minimalist videos. That’s it. That’s what they have. And I just bet everyone here has heard of them and more than a few of us are big fans.

Thanks @lili for giving me the right term “brilliant minimalist videos” , I like Aziatix and watching their videos (they have more MVs than JYJ which is sad to think considering who’s JYJ), I always ask myself why can’t JYJ make an MV for all their songs to balance out their inability to appear in any broadcast medium. They can just sit down in a corner and sing, they don’t need all those flashy effects and high budget MV production. Bruno Mars MVs have also that minimalist approach but he’s able to make it big. Or JYJ can do like BigBang/YG, during their ALIVE concert in Seoul, they record HQ their live performances and uploaded in their official YT channel, and BANG, fans and the general YT browsers don’t have to endure all those shaky and blurred fancams, and almost all those uploads got millions of views. I never like Fantastic Baby but when my daughter was watching I joined her and I found myself enjoying it . Hope Jaejoong/JYJ are taking notes from Aziatix and other bands for their upcoming album promotion.

Now you’re onto something that I would LOVE! Really high quality live performance videos, re-mixed and generally cleaned up in the studio and released on the C-jeS YouTube channel and re-packaged as a for sale DVD, like DBSK used to do. That would be GREAT!

Agree. They lip sync during their debut too, much to many people’s disappointment. Junsu has proven to be a true singer..an idol and artist. So even if there’s autotune in Tantallegra, people already know he can sing… Gosh I love this new album!
That’s was so disappointing, after all those hypes, they just ended up lipsyncing. I think BAP The Warrior from unpopular company is better.
The main difference, I think is, Junsu and his team are operating on the principle of inspired creativity and real artistry, whereas others are operating on a profit-driven view. Not all listeners are easily duped, though. We can see through the fake, rehashed concepts and background sets of others (LOL). Junsu is no longer shackled by thoughts of selling millions, and has said so in his latest tweet. With this album, he really is blazing new trails and giving us all a glimpse of where KPOP is headed if only true artists ruled the scene. Right now, only JYJ is in the right position to achieve that- and gain true discerning fans along the way..
The question is, does a Korean artist really have to appear in all those shows, utter scripted lines, do aegyo, and cater to excessive fan service to achieve commercial and critical success? HELL NO!!

That’s a powerful idea. I read a line in Forbes today from an article on the “6 Enemies of Greatness” which said, “Nothing destroys a good idea faster than a mandatory consensus [read: wanting to please everybody]. The lowest common denominator is never a high standard.”
It’s one thing to want to make enough money to continue making music, it’s another to consider the #1 spot to be the most important achievement. I think he’s learned that 3000 rabid fans (Yes, Peru, I’m thinking of you. 😉 ) can be just as satisfying as 30,000. Maybe more. I know I’m satisfied. 😀

This is one of the reasons Leonardo di Vinci’s Coda is considered a masterpiece. The man’s creative imagination was simply focused on exploring what came to his mind. One of mankind’s true innovative geniuses. Yes, patrons were necessary for survival during those times, but Leonardo did not let that stop him. Hence, we now have the ideas he put down on paper to remind us, genius knows no boundaries. If it was true back in the Renaissance, it’s true today. Love that quote! 😉

Wow, I do too! What a great quote. Thanks Eliza for posting that observation, too. I think it’s highly insightful. This is really the silver lining of being an indie artist. It you’re brave enough and confident enough to go for it, you can make exactly the music of your dreams. No company president is going to call you into his office and tell you what you have to do. Junsu is currently enjoying the best of both worlds. He is both independent of business interests telling him how to proceed musically AND he is fantastically successful and popular. Sweet!

When profit is not the driver, an artist is totally set FREE to simply create. And as you said Junsu made it clear that his greatest joy was to be able to make music that people enjoy and appreciate. When the motivation is pure the rewards will come.

Dear, there weren’t 6000 fans in Peru, not 3000. Believe me, I was there. And yes, is far more important to be known and to perform worldwide before 5000-6000 fans than to wait for the triple of domestic fans to fill you pockets with money. The big masses will come eventually abroad, I’m sure about that.

Here is the trick. You can create a playlist on youtube or play other people playlist. For example http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB37E26FCEEB03ACB .. It will automatically repeat the songs in the list. I played like that all night long … with lowest volume. I played that play list while i am at work with mute while working. So I am doing my daily activities and also supporting tarantallegra MV to get 15 million view in one month project.
