he looks so good in hanbok..i havent seen the show yet but he looks so divine..looking forward to watching it soon im waiting for at least half of the show to finish before i watch it
I’m still having a hard time believing that “Gentleman’s Dignity” is getting higher ratings than this! Does anybody know if they still are?
Anyway, everybody associated with the show must be happy (I hope) with these ratings. Jaejoong seems to have mastered the art of the Stern, Reproving Glare, huh?
🙂
Ratings can be achieved for all kinds of reasons. One of which is a good script. As much as I’m thrilled Jaejoong is performing well in Dr. Jin, this script is leaving a lot to be desired. The actors are doing the best they can with what they are being given. Because the script is so uneven, I’ve decided to wait it out and watch it in marathon. I’m hoping it will flow better that way.
So, if “Gentleman’s Dignity” has a better script, then they deserve their ratings.
@BAFfie
“Ratings can be achieved for all kinds of reasons. One of which is a good script. As much as I’m thrilled Jaejoong is performing well in Dr. Jin, this script is leaving a lot to be desired. ”
I do see the “We don’t like this script” people’s point of view but can anybody seriously tell me they’ve decided NOT to watch the series because of the script?? This girl’s in it till the end even the script degenerates to meaningless babytalk babble and hiccupping.
I know what it is of course, it’s the Jaejoong Effect. But that doesn’t change a thing.
Although, the writing needs work. For me the director is the main culprit. The scenes are so choppy and so uneven. He lingers when he should cut the scene, and cuts the scene, when the scene should be extended. Right now, the cast is carrying the drama. If not for the popularity of the actors in this drama, the drama would be in ratings trouble.
I am not feeling Song Seung Hun and Park Min Young in this drama that much. Jaejoong is definitely holding his own, I hope the drama gets in groove soon, so he can shine even more.
yup yup… agree… after watching RTP, Dr Jin show serious degradation in quality… i watched up to ep 2 & holding for few more eps before continue… i am sooo JJ bias but dr jin is just lacking…
also, i hate lame joke that Gentleman Dignity have in some scene :p
I find Gentleman Dignity a bit boring. I expected more, because Jang Dong Gun is such a legend in Korea. I thought the early episodes were good, but I find myself not really interested in watching. JDG is good, the men’s friendship is good, but something about the love story isn’t captivating.
I agree, the directing could also use some improvement. The theme has promise, but because there are so many gaping holes, it makes it harder to buy into it. I’m still struggling with the rapid recovery of the brain surgeries. Believe me, this is a really hard pill to swallow.
Am I the only one lost to wonder why no one asks more pointed questions of Dr. Jin other than his name, rank and serial number? They simply look at his trusty tool kit as if it’s the usual thing to see. Huh? Yeah, they looked at his hosptial garb weirdly, but no real attempt to dissect anything. At least in RTP, one looked at the clothes all four wore and could assume they were in costumes from a different period. Ok, a little odd that they kept showing up in them, but modern day folk can be kind of quirky. Not here they aren’t.
I really don’t have a problem with Song Seung Hun or Park Min Young. Because they are not being handed a decent dialog, I’m not going to hold lack of performance against them. With Jaejoong’s character being one that was not in the original Japanese version, he has the opportunity to make the character known – put him on the map so to speak. Right now, at least for me, Jae’s character is the only one that seems to have any real internal conflict. Even to me Dr.Jin’s is limited. One doesn’t know how KTT’s going to turn out. Since KTT seems to be grappling with several different moral issues here, he can’t be pinned down to do what is expected. No one knows what is expected of KTT.
I do hope though that he is responsible for the death of that sleaze of an older half-brother. I don’t care how he manages to do it, just do it. OK, it may be fratricide, but there are worse things in life. This dude is seriously giving me a case of permanent dislike, with no chance at redeemption. Poetic justice is what I’m hoping for.
Lee Bum Soo is no joke, he and Lee So Yeon are stealing the scenes from the leads. SSH is known for his looks, so is sageuk garb is not letting him even have that to fall back on. And PMY I don’t know what she did to her cheeks, since S Scandal, but she needs to stop whatever it is. She looks like she is phoning in her role. It also doesn’t help that they haven’t explained why she hates KT so much. He is falling all over her, and she is acting like she doesn’t even want to be on the same planet with him. Sheesh.
@lisan
“Lee Bum Soo is no joke, he and Lee So Yeon are stealing the scenes from the leads. SSH is known for his looks, so is sageuk garb is not letting him even have that to fall back on. ”
My opinion starts out differently than yours but it kind of ends the same way, re: Lee Bum Soo. The first episode I just went , “Oh NO! Another Korean comic relief Over -Actor — make him stop! make him stop! That is a real pet peeve of mine. Actors who look like they are playing to the back row of the balcony except they are film actors. It’s just painful to watch. Here in the U.S. we call these types Hams. But pretty quickly, he seems to have calmed down and found his character among the many tribulations the character faces being a member of an out-of-favor royal family and pretty much walking a thin tight-rope to keep from being called treasonous and killed off. So I’m sort of liking him now. And I agree about Lee so Yeon – I think she is great and beautiful to look at. PYM has kind of a nothing character to play so I forgive her for not showing much.
LOL, your comment about playing to the back row, cracked me up so much. I don’t know if you ever watched Sex in the City. There was an episode that had that phrase and it came up in my head. Yeah, totally random.
For me, Dr. Jin being a serious medical drama in a Joseon era, with all those gross scenes, showing all the hypocrisy and how ill their political system and the society as a whole can be, with 14% plus rating (and the gap is just so small from the top rating), it’s already a good feat considering it’s rival to have fun/comedic atmosphere with great actors as well. And Dr. Jin story is still building up and I can see a good script in it. All actors are doing great not just Jaejoong (but Jae’s screentime is still the most desirable for my eyes and heart 🙂 )
Come on sisters and brothers , if you haven’t watch it give it a shot, it’s a worthwhile drama not just because Kim Jaejoong is in it. And I always take into account that tv ratings doesn’t entirely represent the popularity or the worth of the drama. Most people nowadays watch what they want at their own time and convenience through internet .
The story is actually good. All the cast are working hard. Instead of just getting frustrated over ratings, (which is not that much different from rival anyway), let’s support Jae and the rest of the cast. If we don’t believe in the drama and just blame the director, writer, other casts how do we expect the ratings to go up? Given the ratings…It’s not that bad is it? It didnt go as low as 5% as some of the drama from last time with an idol actress from SoMeone’s company is it? Let’s support Dr Jin!
By the way, that fight scene wherein Jae didnt use double (or so we heard), absolutely stunning. I hope he does an action drama/movie next… 🙂 Dr Jin fighting!
” The story is actually good. ”
That’s right, I watched the subbed Ep. 6 without skipping a single part, though Jae has barely a scene (only 5 min. I think). I love LBS and the main gisaeng and even YR’s brother is making a mark. ( Honestly in PTB I skipped a lot of scenes especially Jisung ang Kanghee cheesy parts at the later episodes. )
and you’re right : let’s support Jae and the rest of the cast !
🙂 Dr Jin fighting!

yeah i did it too i just skip to jaejoong and ji hye scences hehhe
p.s For me i’ll just wait until the Dr. jin is finished then i can have a marathon
and skip scenes that i don’t feel watching!! ^____________^
Jae fighting!!! dr. jin more exciting and trilling ep.!!
me: fighting!! for patience in waiting and craving for jae acting!! :(( ^__^
I love that blue hanbok on him! i’d killed for YR position TT___TT
i like this drama and all of the main characters (except for YR from ep 5 above). I really want to know how this drama will end.

But come on…… admit it……. Are you going to stop watching? Noooooo, I don’t think you are!
🙂
xxoo
Lol, of course not 🙂
Jae is the break out star of the Drama.

Knowing Kdramas expect a redemption arc and forgiveness storyline around the last episode for the murdering psychopaths.
Agree. They just don’t have any chemistry. I’m totally in love with lee bum soo’s character, aka mr. scene stealer.
Lee Bum Soo is no joke, he and Lee So Yeon are stealing the scenes from the leads. SSH is known for his looks, so is sageuk garb is not letting him even have that to fall back on. So right. In fact, I’ve found a whole multitude of life situations that need more Jae. 🙂
😀
