JYJ Yuchun, Junsu, Jaejoong are growing rapidly as actors.
JYJ Yuchun, Junsu, Jaejoong are grand idol stars with fandoms all over countries. It’s hard for them to appear on a TV program, but releasing albums and holding concerts in order to frequently meeting with fans.
And now, these guys are starting to expand to drama, musical, movies and other areas. There were some biased opinions regarding their idol occupation. Some people looked at them negatively, saying that they were in leading roles without proving their worth. But in 2012, assessments about JYJ members have completely changed. Now JYJ members can confidently add their titles with actors and musical actors.
Park Yuchun has been an actor since KBS “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” MBC “Miss Ripley,” but to him SBS “Rooftop Prince” is a special one. Park Yuchun, who was a bit novice before, became matured in his role from “Rooftop Prince” as an actor.
Park Yuchun’s one of much strength is his clear voice tone and his ability to send message well. Because of this, Park Yuchun could control his up and down voice, and his expression has been surprisingly smoother. Also Park Yuchun blending into his fellow colleagues helped him to be a better actor.
Kim Junsu debuted as a musical actor through musical “Mozart!” in 2010. Kim Junsu’s musical went sold out but it also had revealed some problems.
The problem is Kim Junsu’s high payment. Because of him, ‘Mozart!’ was sold out and Kim Junsoo is right to be compensated. However, this will make other colleagues discouraged and hiring idols just for the profit became more frequent. Some people even said Kim Junsu’s this musical will also be his last. Just like any other idol stars.
But Kim Junsu was different. After ‘Mozart!.’ he participated in other musicals such as “Tears of Heaven,” “Mozart!,” “Elizabeth” and started to create his own character. Kim Junsu himself was enthusiastic about musical and is constantly improving himself.
Critics pointed out his lack of voice range and voice tone, and criticized that he cannot effectively read lines, but his ability to dominate the stage, powerful vocal, expression are Kim Junsoo’s specialty as well.
In the musical “Elizabeth” ended last May, Kim Junsu performed sexy and attractive death perfectly. His dancing on the stage was perfect just as an idol singer, and his singing also was flawless. Because of his great performance, Kim Junsoo was nominated for ‘The Musical Awards The Best Actor.’ It’s safe to say that Kim Junsu would soon win the award as well.
Kim Jaejoong started his career as an actor in SBS “Protect the Boss” last year. And right now, he is acting in MBC “Dr. Jin” as Officer Kim Kyungtak. Kim Kyungtak is a tragic person who is a bastard and is abandoned by his lover.
When Kim Jaejoong has first announced his acting career in a historical drama, people weren’t too happy about it. They said in order to be in a historical drama, one has to master historical tone and action as well and for Kim Jaejoong, it might have been too early for him. But when Kim Jaejoong in ‘Dr. Jin’ was first showed, he showed much matured performing.
Unlike his rigid form in the beginning, now Kim Jaejoong has completely mixed into his role, Kim Kyungtak. Kim Jaejoong perfectly performed Kim Kyungtak’s longing for his father and lover.
In particular, Kim Jaejoong showed his cynical smile to his best friend and performed emptied face while reminiscing. When he kneeled in front of his father and asking to kill him, Kim Jaejoong cried deeply and dearly. Kim Jaejoong’s devoted acting made audiences feel sympathy for him.
Kim Jaejoong will also participate in the movie “Jackal is Coming,” following “Dr. Jin.” Kim Jaejoong’s another transformation is highly expected because of his successful roles in “Protect the boss,” and “Dr. Jin.”

Well well well proud fan here i wonder how sm feels when they see this kind of articles
I wonder siwon is the actor of sm did he ever get praised like that without the help of sm?
I feel like a proud mama! They well deserve all the praise they are getting and more!
On a side note, I had the pleasure to see Jaejoong finally being recognized for those who bash him first! Specially for Dr Jin’s latest episodes! I am so proud of him! TvT
“Critics pointed out his lack of voice range and voice tone, and criticized that he cannot effectively read lines,”
are you kidding? Honestly speaking, among all idols who act in musicals, Junsu is the best in terms of vocal! The way he hit high note is totally awesome!
His biggest problem is his missing lower range. That is nothing he wouldn´t know and he pointed it himself in interviews.
critics are comparing him with the other professional musical actors, which in itself, already a compliment ^^
Junsu’s low notes does have it’s struggling moments, but reading the critics comments, they agree that he got better and better with each performance. so, if you go to his 1st day and the 20th day, you’ll wonder if its the same person~~ Junsu’s awesome that way ❤
Remember kids–the vocal chords are a muscle. Junsu can stretch his range with regular vocal practice. Junsu has an amazing vocal instrument. I really part ways with the critics who have a problem with it. He has the single most important thing a great vocalist has to have – when you hear him sing a line or two you immediately go “Oh. That’s Junsu.” He has near instant voice recognition.
Junsu will only get better and better with time. Singing is what he wants to do and what he is doing, day in, day out. He has single-minded focus. You really can’t underestimate the power of that.
Yesterday I was thinking about that, all three of them have really unique voices and I always recognize them right away. But with some idols I don’t know who is singing, even if I know which groups music I am listening at that moment.
i am not a kid
@makiforjyj
“Yesterday I was thinking about that, all three of them have really unique voices and I always recognize them right away. ”
I know. It’s not a foregone conclusion at all. A unique, identifiable voice is a distinct advantage for a singer. I actually identified Yim Jae Bum’s voice in a soundtrack song of “Family’s Honor” (singing “For You”) and I was so proud of myself that I could actually figure out who it was for once. Then my friend Eljay sent me Jaejoong’s version of the song. Wow, so great. Everybody should listen to that. It’s on YouTube.
@2017questa
“i am not a kid”
Oops, sorry. No offense intended. It’s a figure of speech. I’m no kid either.
🙂
@lilibaiyu
You really amazed me, all these while watching Jaejoong’s acting,
something precious really missing more day by day,
and I particular watched Jaejoong’s ” For You ” Live again.
Here I find the WHOLE JJ again ^^
What i like is they have different characters, and we can call
Yoochun as lee sun joon , prince lee gak
Junsu as xiahzart, xiahtod
Jaejoong as cha mu woon, kyungtak
A big hand for JYJ !!!
JYJ is jeongmal jeongmal jeongmal multi talented idol…
JYJ fighting~~~
Kyaaa proud JYJ!!
They are a real entertain!!
Go JYJ, Fighting!!
they are getting the praise for which they are entitled. they are work so hard and are so devoted to bettering themselves in any endeavor, people will notice and will praise them!
There is a reason why I fell so deeply in love with them…
Well, There are a lot of popular idols, singer, actors, etc in Korea these days. And boy, aren’t those people gorgeous. What with the so called ‘original’ concept. Over the top wardrobe. Flawless make up and banging body. People go crazy over the sight of them. However, when it comes to talent? Hmmm… I believe there is a reason why most of my friends think K-pop music is awful.
With JYJ, I never feel the need to ‘defend’ them, because if someone say Jae, Junsu, and Yoochun are not talented bunch, then that person is either in denial or have major brain malfunction.
It’s JYJ baby…
Oh, and BTW, Jae CAN act… I knew that since ‘Dating on Earth’ days (although at that time he clearly was lacking here and there, but he got the raw material)… It’s surprising how people just notice it now…
probably because either not everyone were DBSK fan.. or because when they were idols no one really took them seriously as actors to even watch their mini drama.. unlike now.. Jae, Chun and Su already broke out from the typical idol wolf pack that they have enough control in their careers to be in legit drama and musical shows that is being watched by the general public… i always thought those who have watched and remembere Dating on Earth should be a JYJ or DBSK fan at least to know that movie did really happened kekeke
“i always thought those who have watched and remembere Dating on Earth should be a JYJ or DBSK fan at least to know that movie did really happened kekeke”
This, and those other Banyan productions to be honest. If you go back and look at all of them, the ones who had the meatier roles and who did the best were the members of JYJ. This did not escape SM’s notice when they offered DBSK out for those productions.
So the success of JYJ members should not come as a surprise to anyone.
It’s good the writer has included Kim Jaejoong with all those prejudicial people within and outside the fandom.
I hope JYJ haters can open their mind . See how hard they work , how talent are they ..even they have alot of problem still haven’t solve until now . Really this year all their problems will be solve . I’m sure they can make us more surprise after these cases end.
They are so awesome in all that they do. I pray that they get a chance to be together as JYJ for a concert or CD. I’m missing that side of them.
Now people should realize our JYJ princes are all very talented.
Always keep the faith ~~
PROUD PROUD PROUUUUUD ❤
And my longing for the three of them to be in a drama together has yet to go away. The three of them are truly very talented. Love this article.
Agree a lot! 🙂
Can understand the bias, especially those who studied hard for “Movie & Arts” degree for 4 yrs…
and those who worked in drama/ movie industries for long time.
While others still enjoying cozy school/ college life , JYJ already starting working at age 16 or 17, ( besides 3-6 yrs training) ,
performing at different countries, under various ad hoc situation, struggling to stay awake under killing working schedule.
Now they are oozing their hardly earn life experience into their roles, though probably not fully recognized by
formal performance training at college.
One day, they may be granted honorable doctorate degree like Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat, their contribution are well
recognized, though they even barely graduated from high school.
Anyway, viewers’ eyes are crystal clear, just let the market determine JYJ’s value.
Obviously, not only local Korea market accepts JYJ, they are recognized by multiple markets!
Lastly, if now JYJ are recognized as actors, will admin pls remind this web to update, this web is bias also:

Tough time never last, tough people do.
Blessing JYJ.
😀
Yoochun
…………………………………………………………………………
The critics and comment really beneficial for JYJ to advance more.
Personally, I think JYJ overflow too much inner true
feeling into their roles. Seeing them cry desperately with neck veins & throats almost breakout….cause us worry.
Just like Han CM commented YC in RTP, even not yet filmed his part, he cried together with the actress behind the camera! Professional actors /actress will not do this at all ! because individual energy & emotion so precious & limited.
Junsu
………………………………………………………………………..
Critics about he can’t read lines properly.
Once I guess he has dyslexia . ( Watch NGs cut abt his concert in ” Scent of Woman” tv drama). If this is true, Junsu should have received more positive praise. It is not a shameful matter, educators are helping children with this dyslexia gift widely now. Celebrity like Keanu Reeves also has this gift. 🙂
About Junsu’s voice in musical , agree that he is
not as gifted as Sung-bong Choi 🙂
God is fair , well , I don’t think Sung-bong Choi can handle perfectly Tarantallegra either 😀
Even with all the high expectation on Junsu, I don’t think he should always push himself to the extreme at all. Given limited physical conditions , musical will harm his vocal and lung , cause prolonged acute headache. We can’t demand normal ppl to play basketball as brilliant as NBA Jeremy Lin either.
So relax Junsu, you’re a blessing to a world of fans already. Just go for top hit micro-film , this suits you most, and the impact not smaller than TV drama or movie. Especially in China, this helps you narrows down the “distance” btw YC & JJ.
Jaejoong
………………………………………………………………………
Very determined, focus & diligent. Brings a lot of real him inside the roles, actually he is not acting, it is real JJ wearing costume crying desperately.
That’s why I hope he can manage to detach from the depressive roles with other gurus’ guidance. It is dangerous without proper handling of post
filming.
Comedy roles are good for him, bring out contrast effect as he is really beautifully handsome. Why not do more & make yourself & fans more happy JJ 😀
In all, this year, 3 guys’ new roles /songs all need to cried to breakdown and with depressed destiny ,
1~2 hrs sleep per day, their family must worry a lot.
As fans, this is triple crying threat !
Unlike the past , when you guys sang well or won award awards on same stage, I just happy tear for one time. Now is too much 😛
Interesting insight….
Thank you very much…
LOL, so you’re one of those who think that JJ is an emo kid who always think of suicide?
Actors, great actors will always apply a piece of themselves into a character. They are not playing themselves, you think they are, but they aren’t. They are still acting a character, but to bring that character to life, they have to put themselves into it, from past experience to bring up emotions. You’re saying that JJ is acting as JJ, crying as JJ in costumes is wrong, and offensive to an actor. The only reason you think of KT as JJ because you are watching KJJ in real life, going through a lot of hardships, unlike other actors who you rarely get a life story, you don’t really see them, their life in reality to connect. You don’t know if they are playing themselves are not. That’s the plus side of actors who aren’t idols. They don’t have fans who follow them, and is always trying to connect their idol’s image with a character they play. Idols are newbies in acting, but it’s 10x harder because of their fans refusing to let go of their idol’s image and is always trying to connect someway with a character they play. It’s harder for JJ to get more acknowledgments in acting because certain people, and fans refuse to disconnect KJJ from the characters he play. They deemed him as playing himself in HP, in PTB, and now in Dr. Jin. Holy, he’s bipolar if it’s all ‘him’.
Also, JJ has an easy to mold image that would fit into any characters you put him into, adding in the techniques that he already learn to be a good actor, you have to put a bit of yourself into it to make it truly yours, so no one can take it away from you. I hope with that explanations, you and some other stop deeming KT as JJ and truly believe that image that SME gave him years ago as a cold, emo character.
@Crayfish
Interesting observations; I enjoyed reading them. 🙂 My own feeling is that Jaejoong was acting all the years he was working under SM. Day in day out, he was acting the role set out for him by the power-that-be there. So I think he’s had lots of experience acting.
If we wish to see the real KJJ…. I’m not sure what we should do, but I’m damn sure about one thing: he’s a lot closer to finding and expressing who he really is now than he ever was before.
@Crayfish
JJ is our bias.
He actual successfully induced us to discuss more like this right? He did project his real life experience into the role, didn’t he? Nothing offensive at all. ” Treasure his emotion, empathy his real life ” describe ONE type out of many viewers like me.
I emphasize on the professional SKILL to detach from a depressing role, didn’t imply any extreme kinds of thing.
Yet, a particular environment / mind set, do affect a person’s cognition.
One of best psycho therapist, clients mostly top artists, needing long therapy due to unable to pull out from given roles post filming.
It has been his closet ones ( direct family, JYJ members who reflected this truth). His alcohol consumption alarm best friends around.
Acting career is only a very small part in a person whole life, hope he enjoys healthy, happy and fulfilling life besides of an artist.
Blessing here.
These boys keep changing themselves time by time because they really a fast learner and never afraid for challenges their own self to be a more better actors/musical actor. Their passion and their strong will never die, when they get criticize by people, their spirit just only became more strong.
From each episode/performing and the criticize that they got, these boys keep studied and tried their best effort for improve their skill and when the right time come, these boys started to show their result. These is the reason why i keep monitoring and watch their acting till now and every time i see it, i can’t stop myself for get amazed even though i believe that these boys can do it but still the result that they show me always be something that beyond of my imagination.
i am glad that people started to realized how talented JYJ really are.
Agree with you.
And JYJ all very humble & respect the new unfamiliar working condition , co-players & crews.
They have not detached from the crowd.
One interesting point is, as JYJ , Yoochun and Jaejoong were heavily slapped on the faces many times,
and beaten up roles so much, may it by the actress or other male role, ( SKKS, Ripley, RTP ; Protect the Boss, Dr. Jin),
seem only Junsu has not experienced ha..ha…
I could not imagine this kind of success of JYJ if they were still with SM.Good fight for life,my boys.
♫♪•*¨*•.¸¸❤¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪ JYJ 😀
Salute to my men …..am very proud of them. These multi-talented young men are becoming role model to the others. Love you.
Reblogged this on JYJ FAN’ANTIC’
Soooo Proud of JYJ / Jaejoong / Yoochun / Junsu !!!!
They are really good actors , they are not just idol but are our heroes , brave warriors !!
They become stronger & stronger under such hard pressure^^ V@_^V
hope that more people will see how SUPER talented our princes are… 🙂 JYJ Fighting!!
This is the way I see things, hopefully no one will feel offended as this is my personal opinion.
JYJ could have spent more time to prepare themselves to embark on acting, however, the reality of their situation is as follows:
a) I don’t think JYJ were that determined to start acting this soon, or with intensity if their contract with Avex wasn’t suspended. Remember how busy & hectic their schedule was in Japan. If they also wanted to produce some stuff in Korea and tour in Asia, they will have no time to do other things. YC & JJ tried acting in Japan, JJ with Suano; was one of the 5 main cast but not the lead actor, his acting was decent, learnt a lot from senior & top rated actors & actresses, also widened his already massive fan base in Japan, & increased his social network to the max. Had Avex not suspended his contract and blocked him in Japan for the past 3 years, I predict that he would have now been on the same level of exposure and commercial value as that of Mastu Jun of Arashi, mind you I think JJ is much more better of an actor than him. YC acted on the BeeTV drama as a lead actor, this drama was viewed on cellphone or the interent by paying members, this whole thing in owned by Avex I think. His drama wasn’t broadcasted on any TV station, but was a good experience for him as well. JS in that time released inoxication single. After the contract suspension, & the blacklisting in Korea & Japan, JYJ found themselves with limited opportunities to meet their fans, & earn. They couldn’t hold concerts in Korea as JYJ after 2010, couldn’t contract any composers, album producers… etc. The only way available to them is once again tap the acting front.
YC started his first Korean drama as a lead actor, which is fine as many idols turned actors before him did that, the drama was a good production, had a good cast with excellent chemistry which increased it’s poularity. in My oprinion YC was great in this drama, it was his first historical role, so their was some weakness, however he gained more experience and a dedicated ajumma fan base, as well as awards for this role. He later followed by Miss Ripley which was a bad choice for him,as he didn’t grow as an actor in that drama at all. Later he starred in rooftop prince, with 2 characters similar to his previous drama, the noble or prince in Joseon era & the chaebol heir in the modern world. This drama was nice, fun, & has a good story line, but in my opinion YC had just repeated what he did in his 2 previous roles, I honestly saw the improved actor YC, but didn’t like the role. PLEASE YC don’t act as chaebol or prince or nobleman in your next project, I need a more complex role, with real life troubles, or maybe a comedy role. Anything new is fine, & you don’t have to be the lead actor in every project. Acting with senior actors is the one thing he didn’t do, I think he would have gained more recognition, respect, & experience if he had done that. The verdict on his acting in my opinion is that he is now well received, well paid, but more recognized as a popular actor than a best actor. I hope his next project is really something different….
Junsu started with Mozart, which was a very nice role, he then later starred in Tears of heave, & finally Elizabeth. Again here Junsu started with a big production, & had a high pay, which resulted in some heated opinions about him being a rookie & earning more than established actors. He caused all 3 production to be commercially very successful because of his status as an idol, & the lack of any JYJ music activities in Korea. JS is a talented singer, however his problem has always been that he is a great singer technically, but with not a very wide range, & sometimes a voice that not everybody finds appealing. He has to work extra hard to improve his singing technique so that he can at least blend with the other singers in a musical. He has definitively come along way, since his first role, had more control on his vocals as a musical singer, & has now mastered the stage appearance, & confidence needed in a musical actor. He is well received in the musical business, & many had acknowledged his performance, by now he has proved that he is worthy of the high pay that he receives in every project.
JJ first lead actor role was in postman to heaven, he filmed that while busily promoting Merotic in Korea & other activities in Japan. He himself said that he could have done better, had he prepared more for the role. I think He decided to take things slowly after that & to start as a rookie with secondary characters till he find himself worthy & confident enough to shoulder the lead actor territory. in the process he took longer time to decide his projects, had less activities compared to YC & JS , he also has the time to work on JYJ music. He started in Korean drama with protect the boss, which was a very funny drama, had an excellent cast, & he had chemistry with all 3 leads. He also had the chance to work with senior actors. His role was easy, that needed him to be somewhat reserved but with funny twist around certain characters, his overall performance in this drama was great, showing great improvement from the beginning to the end. He now stars in Dr Jin, as KT, this character is complex, different, & grey. So different than the usual second leads, he is so far doing an impressive job, this role could land him a best new actor award later. He is working with senior actors, which gives him the chance to learn & improve. His next project the movie, seems to be something he wants to do, we will see how it fares, for now it looks really promising.
So my overall take on JYJ as actors in their respective roles, is that they have exceeded everyone’s predictions. They are the best among idol actors, & hopefully they will get rid of this tag with their future works. So far, I think personally I like the way JJ took his acting career; carefully, gradually, & with much preparation for each different role. The 3 of them has still along way to be compared to the best original actors in their field, but they compensate that with diligence, hard work, & the desire to learn.
@KawaiiOO
” He has to work extra hard to improve his singing technique so that he can at least blend with the other singers in a musical.”
I hate to tell you this, Kawaii, but in my experience the LAST thing a singer of Junsu’s caliber wants to do, whether consciously or not, is to blend with other singers. Quite, quite the contrary, in fact
🙂
And I wouldn’t worry about his vocal quality not being everybody’s cup of tea. That’s OK. NOBODY who has a very distinctive, identifiable voice is universally loved by everyone. Junsu’s vocal quality is unique to him. That’s more important than universal admiration (if there is such a thing) I think. I’m willing to bet those who also sing or those who know a fair amount about singing pop music, his peers in other words, LOVE Junsu. And I can see why. And he will ONLY get better and better, that much I am sure of.
@kawaii
I love reading narrative comment like yours (part 1 and 2), sounds objective, not all praises, not afraid to point what you think is the weakness for each of them which is rarely done on this site or else one will be met with endless arguments.
And I agree with your last phrase, “the 3 of them has still a long way to be compared to the best original actors in their field” , hope fans will take note on this.
Call me shallow but I really don’t wish JYJ to aspire to be like the so called “best original actors in their field”. The likes of Anthony Hopkins and Meryl Streep have limited appeal after a while as people grow tired of their acting techniques. I would rather JYJ retain their mass appeal with the freshness, charm and the ‘heart’ they bring into every role with every new drama. It is precisely their ‘imperfect’ acting that make them more real and likable. Give me Hugh Grant, Johnny Depp and Drew Barrymore any day!
the most exceptional fact is that with the talent they have, they remain to be grounded.. appreciative towards, family, friends, staffs and fans,, always thankful.. always thoughtful.. for me that’s worth more than any praise… that beyond your talent and hardwork.. this 3 kept themselves well from being egoistic…
I feel extremely proud whenever I read articles like this. I have absolute confidence in JYJ because I know they’re very capable and work extra hard to earn their success and titles. Their achievements aren’t merely blown up by some PR work or friendly pieces of news. JYJ do their jobs earnestly and professionally, thus people in respective fields can’t help acknowledging them and changing their initial perceptions about their idol status. I agree that if given a choice, JYJ would probably prefer to focus on their singing career and grow from there. But what else can they do when they can hardly find a stage to stand on or some entities to work with? If JYJ just gave up or became discouraged because of that, they wouldn’t be my boys whom I greatly admire. They’ve had to resort to dramas, movies, musicals, and other things, but they didn’t do all of those just for the sake of doing with the mindset of “I’m a star, fans will like whatever I do so I don’t have to try too hard.” No, despite criticism, they’ve kept proving their self-worth and end up charming and convincing everyone. They’re still lacking, but they never stop learning and improving themselves. That’s what is important for their long-term careers where they can excel in different fields and are not limited to just singing.
Reblogged this on dreamalexia.
I actually hope that Junsu will NOT become “a good musical player”
singing like a musical singer way……(bel kanto??method)
Please stay Junsu as a singer Junsu and
now and then play in musical world.
The boys have matured in their career over time. Good job.
Waaahhhhh, soooo proud *happy* ^^
they not only have talent, but also work hard..never give up, and never cease to learn.
they really could be a role model for young people in today’s world.
The best motivator … salute and are proud of them….
