JYJ member Junsu held an interview and expressed his thoughts on transformation.
JYJ member Junsu held an interview with @star1 and talked about his never ending transformations.
He has come out with his first english single, Uncommitted, and has worked with producer Automatic to produce this single.
He explains that producing in the U.S. and in Korea is very different. He commented, “In Korea, when we produce we just focus on recording, but here we all talk and discuss our thoughts before beginning to produce. Lets say we are recording for 4 hours. Two hours are spent talking about the album and the other 2 spent on recording. They also let me rest any time I wanted and made sure that I was ok. I have learned what it feels like to work in an environment with top staff members.”
He also explained that in Korea, there were exact scripts on how the music video would be played out. However, this time, he was told to just do as he pleased in order to create a more natural looking video. Junsu was surprised at first at the fact that he was supposed to just move any way he wanted to.
He added that the staff would be looking straight as him, which made him a bit embarrassed and at the same time worried because he wanted to create something that they would like.
Junsu’s sharing is always humorous & sincere 😛
I think he begin to enjoy new way of music production.
Born in December, want to as free as possible. Korea way of framed music production suffocate Junsu.
And yes, westerners need direct eyes contact whenever communicating each other, this show sincerity and honesty. Unlike Asian, eyes meet eyes contact is impolite or challenging alike 😛
I m happy for you Junsu. 70% spent on communication , 20% on actual work, 10% rest & play. The success module of US creation industry.
I just love Junsu interviews!!! I totally agree he is always funny and sincere!!!! Also, his interviews are always interesting! I just love the way he think!!!!
Well, well. well. this is a tremendously interesting interview given by “JYJ MEMBER” Junsu. First of all because that is invariably how he is addressed in everything. He is a JYJ member and JYJ is not going anywhere. I like that a lot. Then, he relates, ““In Korea, when we produce we just focus on recording, but here we all talk and discuss our thoughts… Lets say we are recording for 4 hours. Two hours are spent talking about the album and the other 2 spent on recording.”
This says without saying, loud and clear, “the way I was used to recording when with SM was long hours, rushed and uncomfortable. We were never consulted on anything. We entered the studio, were told what to do and we were pressured and worked hard.” Hmmm. Sounds like it was not very conducive to an artist’s sensibility, doesn’t it? Junsu is a very smart young man in addition to everything else he is. He seems to be losing no opportunity to pull the covers from the SM years and tell people what it was really like.
Then he says: “They also let me rest any time I wanted and made sure that I was ok. I have learned what it feels like to work in an environment with top staff members.”
U.S. independent producers know that it pays big dividends to take good care of their artist/clients. SM producers knew that good, bad or indifferent, DBSK wasn’t able to object to anything or go anywhere else. They were a captive audience and were more or less forced to do as they were told. Junsu specifically mentions this because in SK he was treated like “the help.” He then goes on to imply that he has NEVER before worked with true world-class professionals – this is why the recording experience was so alien to him at first. So true, Junsu. Taking care of the needs of their artists was probably the LAST thing on anybody at SM’s minds in the studio. You were chattel to them. You were slaves, to be directed and worked hard. It must be like a breath of fresh air after a long time in the hold of a slave ship to be free of all that. It must be exhilarating in fact – and we can feel it and hear it in the new material you have created for “Tarantallegra” and “Uncommitted.”
Finally, Junsu was obviously given so much freedom and leeway to do as he felt in the video shoot for “Uncommitted” that it literally unnerved him at first. How heartbreakingly poignant is that? This great talent, so successful for so many years was literally not ready for being given true artistic freedom for the first time. Well, it may have been the first time, my dear Junsu — but I can guarantee it won’t be the last.
Yea! That’s the taste of freedom. LOL. Indulge yourself Junsu!
@lilibaiyu
It is indeed a blessing, Junsu finally meet the professional teams who can break the frame & extensively unlock Junsu inner potential 🙂 I am very relieved to see JYJ, Junsu pursues new way of music career now . With nice transformation and try new things in due time.
I observe recent DBSK2 new release, that is very disappointing, especially in music & dancing style….. How lucky JYJ struggled & lead a new life earlier. JYJ full transformation is a MUST . Phew…
@LILI
Dearest, you’re damn right. I’ve been paying attention to our JYJ’s men comments, and I found out the one who leaves implicit most of the times his annoyment and disagreement about SM’s slavery practices is no other but our beloved Kim Junsu. I can’t forget; I even downloaded that Japanese video recorded at the airport in early 2011 when Junsu was asked by the journalists if DBSK was going to reunite again someday and Junsu’s answer was incredibly meaningful: He just turned around his face and laughed in a sarcastic way like if he was saying “PLEASE” 😀 My man, always sincere :3
@lilibaiyu
His comment that they let him rest whenever he wanted & made sure that he was OK, really pulled at my heart. Even though he, Chunnie & Jaejoong are free of SM, hearing of how they were mistreated there still makes me sad sometimes.
Come back to the U. S. ANYTIME YOU LIKE to record. I’m sure the producers won’t push or pressure you and you can take as many breaks as you like. In fact, why don’t you make the U. S. your second home—but I can’t make promises that we won’t STEAL YOU AWAY! (lol)!
We’d love to have you record your music here, Junsu; in fact having his second solo album done here exclusively, would be exciting!!!
