Kim Jae-joong’s comic acting in his movie debut is drawing a positive reaction from fans, according to media reports yesterday.
“Code Name: Jackal,” which was released Thursday, features the singer as a fictional idol star, Choi Hyun, who is abducted by assassin Bong Min-jung, played by Song Ji-hyo.
In a desperate effort to get her to release him, the pretty-face singer tries to please her with self-deprecating acts, such as slapstick comedy and comical singing.
“Is that really Kim Jae-joong? I didn’t know he had such a comical side in him,” said an audience on a Web site forum. Another said he looked so different from “Dr. Jin,” a just-finished MBC drama. “I was concerned that his good looks may be a hindrance to comedy, but he did it terrifically,” said another fan of the K-pop star.
Kim, 26, a pillar of the three-member boy group JYJ, made a debut as an actor with the 2011 SBS drama, “Protect The Boss,” through which he received the New Star award during the SBS Drama Awards.

@shayra
still hoping for 1 mil…crossing fingers..
Only 48 out of 300 Korean movies has achieved an audience of over 100 thousand in 2012. Jackal has attracted over 150 thousand ppl in five days. Which means Jackel has already ranks top 50 in 2012 Korean movie market. It is a comedy which is not audience’s preference compared with other movies telling more complicated and epic story. And it’s the only work of the director in 4 years. Based on it’s Jaejoong’s first appearance on large screen,Jaejoong has already make a big achievement. 🙂
Yes, you’re right, besides Jackal is released together with tough competitors.
http://www.cgv.co.kr/ This is for CGV cinemas only which give Jackal a very limited number of screens, I wonder how it is doing in Lotte cinemas, I can’t find a link of it. Hopefully Jackal screening will be extended for few more weeks to gain more views especially from those gone through with Breaking Dawn and Werewolf Boy.
I am so happy for JJ that the movie is getting positive reviews!!!! Also, I am happy that his great acting is the focus of attention other than only his looks. Because I truly believe that JJ loves a compliment just like any person would. However, I feel he is trying to get away from people only focusing on his looks. He would prefer his talents be the center of their focus more and not just his looks.
Bravo, JJ! Dare to take the challenge! Dare to conquer! Fighting!
Read that Jackal is showing in like 300 theatres and Wolf Boy is in like 650 theatres and Twilight in similar number of theaters as WB. So, of course less take in the $$ overall. But being Number 4 right away against stiff competition is awesome!
At this moment I am going to do my breakfast, later than having my breakfast coming again to read other news.
