Utilizing the big screen project «Code Name: Jackal», JYJ member Kim Jaejoong has successfully advanced into the film industry. «Code Name: Jackal» has been released since November 15 and despite facing many stiff competition, its box office is still hot. Jaejoong’s portrayal of flower boy superstar Choi Hyun received great recognition and love from the moviegoers.
In the film, Kim Jaejoong had perfectly taken on the role of a narcissistic and handsome superstar. Compared to his previous roles, Kim Jaejoong is more at ease shaping/crafting the character Choi Hyun, thus adding liveliness throughout the movie. Additionally, in the film he discarded his “glorious” image, revealing his talent and potential as an actor.
As a newbie in film and television, he has already tried out various genres such as youthful romantic drama, historical drama, comedy film etc., and is continuously exploring his own performance style. Originally an idol singer, Kim Jaejoong’s handsome appearance as well as his undeniable potential as an actor has the audiences greatly anticipating his future projects.
«Code Name: Jackal» tells the story of Bong Min Jeong (played by Song JiHyo), a killer whose code name is “Jackal” and the hilarity that ensues after she kidnaps superstar Choi Hyun.

“despite facing many stiff competition, its box office is still hot” ~thanks God!^^
how i wish the movie to be released on dvd T____T ,want to see it so badly…
anyway,Jackal fighting!!!
I think people were expecting a lot from the movie but I really think it’s doing well Considering the Competition and the fact that it’s not a big budget film .
and I can’t wait for the DVD .. JJ in HD baby .
That’s good to hear, hope the movie continues doing well :))
Well, now I’m confused. Yesterday there was a rather downbeat post about the film being judged a failure and a disappointment at the box office, which frankly shocked me. Since when?? There was even a quote from Jaejoong saying “It’s OK, I’m not sad about it” or something to that effect. So…. which is it??
yeah .. I mean how long has it been playing for it to be called a failure in the box office already ?
@lili
If we want million views then it’s a disappointment, but nothing is easy for a JYJ member, even an MV in YT takes time to reach millions, how much more for a full length commercial movie produced by Lotte, a rival of an SM alliance CGV? I think Jae needs more time and a good project to reach millions like SongJoongKi’s movie.
Let not your hearts be troubled.Just believe…keep the faith. JYJ guys have just began yet look they have garnered awards and acknowledgements. Don’t rely so much in numbers…remember they can be manipulated…statistics can be deceiving. With the many hindrances-including paid negative reviews, few theaters to show the movie, no TV appearances and huge politics in the S Korean entertainment, JYJ are the underdogs in the fight. Let the movies be shown worldwide and let us see who’s who. Those with great talents with passion and persistence will win… they are the JYJ guys.

Thanks a lot for summarizing what’s playing on my mind especially that paid negative reviews, and even negative interviews and press relelases. I was thinking Jaejoong will have a smooth sail on his acting journey but it looks like a demolition squad is strongly following him wherever he goes. SM allies, the antis, the acgaes who hate Jaejoong to the bones, they are all actively working all around, giving the lowest viewers rating, writing negative comments in every board they can find, but whatever, let’s just see in the end game.

I’m glad you mentioned this, because this is no theory, this is actually happening. Now, in many Asian countries there is a whole subculture of people whose job it is to post whatever the person or company they work for tells them to post. They are paid by the post. They sit in internet cafes all day long and post negative comments if that is what they are paid to do.
Does anyone, therefore, really take any of these “netizen comments” seriously anymore, knowing this??? Perhaps the ever-gullible and easily led Korean public do, I don’t know. Is this more of the collectivism, the easily digested and taken for granted ethic that seems to pervade JYJ’s homeland, even though any right-thinking person can see that the group are being further maligned and abused unjustly?
According to Hancinema,
http://www.hancinema.net/korean_boxoffice.php?weekend=2012.11.23+~+2012.11.25
Jackal has the following stats:
1st weekend Nov 15-18: 140 964 & was on 4th place.
Nov 23-25: 21 417
Total for now is : 202 264 & is in the 11th place.
I don’t think it’s a bad result at all. Lets think positively, Jackal has less than have the screens for the # 1 movie. Also, the main lead; JJ is not able to attend any TV or radio promotional activities. Think of how much more people would have been inclined to watch after they see him on TV. Sadly, he can’t & we all know the reason. JJ & the production company are not counting their loss, not at all, just wait till this movie hit Japan, & we can start talking about #s, not to mention, it has already been sold to other 5 countries.
So for a first time acting in a movie, I think that JJ has forced another path for himself as a movie actor, & I can tell that he has already learnt a lot from it.
This movie has given JJ the chance to tour cinemas with the other cast for promotion & exposure. He also got to showcase his singing & composing skills as well, so JJ hit three birds with one stone; acting, singing,& composing.
In my book this can only equal a positive result.
Looking at the chart, movies released on Nov. 15, 2012 (excluding Breaking Dawn)
Jackal is Coming (자칼이 온다) 202,264
The Winter of the Year was Warm (내가 고백을 하면) 7,242
White Night – 2012 (백야) 2,845
Going South (남쪽으로 간다) 1,127
Suddenly Last Summer (지난여름, 갑자기) 1,294
Personally, I’m happy enough with 202k and still counting, maybe I’ll cry for Jae if his debut movie don’t even reach a 10k views like those 4 movies on the chart.

Also remember the DVD sales and rentals will be huge for this one, and by that I mean internationally. That’s where the majority of films made today make their money. There are only a very few films that actually are big box office hits compared to what gets released in a year. Many top stars in the U.S. who were more popular a few years ago now find that their films finally start making good money as DVDs overseas. So it isn’t over yet. This was not a big budget film anyway. Those are the ones where investors lose their shirts if it bombs and then doesn’t sell as a DVD,
My Korean friends who’ve already watched the movie, said that Jackal is not doing well in Korea (when they first watch it) because of it’s story line. but I don’t know if it’s true… How I wish I was there too T_T
I just can’t wait to watch it, and to be release on DVD.. and I think if they are going to release it worldwide it will do well, JYJ have so many int’l fans and because justice in Korea is just…
When the film reached malaysia..i hope we would be able to get more than the views in korea!malaysia love jyj and running man!cant wait for it…..waiting is a pain..sigh..
