Questions of fairness have been raised for the ‘2012 Melon Music Awards‘.
The award that raised the biggest question was the ‘Netizen Popularity Award‘. According to netizen votes, JYJ‘s Junsu ranked #1 with 185,519 votes for his ‘Nice Guy‘ OST, ”Love Is Like Snow“. However, the award went instead to B2ST with “Midnight“, who only received 147,310 votes.
Unlike the other awards in which netizen votes only count for 30% of the final result with 70% coming from music charts, netizen votes count double (60%) for the ‘Netizen Popularity Award’, so many fans are questioning the outcome. An industry representative who requested anonymity said, “It looks like it’s a similar situation to how Junsu’s group JYJ used to receive limitations by his previous label“.
The question has gotten even worse because the hosts of the awards had said, “The core of this award is fairness, popularity, and professionalism. It will be a fair award because it will be decided by the music chart rank and netizen votes.”

Note: Clearly, this has nothing to do with who was actually awarded, the fact remains that Junsu,
according to the vote, won it fairly. As the article indicates, it is an example of a larger system of “limitations.”

[NEWS] The second place transforms into the first place? ‘2012 Melon Music Awards’ fairness causes controversy – The ‘Netizen Popularity Award’ that netizens did not pick, 140,000 votes are more than 180,000 votes?
Controversy continues over the fairness of ‘2012 Melon Music Awards’ that took place at the Seoul Olympic Park Stadium on the 14th of last month.
The area of continued controversy is the ‘Netizen Popularity Award’. The award was given to the second place instead of the singer who actually won the first place in voting.
In the polls conducted from November 29th to December 13th, Kim Junsu who sang drama ‘The Innocent Man’ OST ‘Love is Like a Snowflake’ won the first place with 185,519 votes (42 percent of the votes).However, the popularity award went to ‘Midnight’ of B2ST that won 147,310 votes (33 percent of votes).
Doubts remain especially because the ‘Netizen Popularity Award’ is decided sixty percent by netizens’ votes unlike other awards that reflect seventy percent of the music source chart and thirty percent of netizens’ polls.
A music industry insider who asked to be anonymous said on this topic, “It looks like it can be understood in the same context where JYJ and Kim Junsu have been sabotaged when it comes to music and TV appearance activities in relation to the former management company”.
JYJ recently finalized the legal dispute that had continued for over three years with their former management company SM Entertainment. However, JYJ’s current agency C-JeS relayed, “The sabotage against JYJ’s activities is not the matter of legality. It is like a fight between David and Goliath, so the activities after the judgment won’t be that much different”.
Also, it was disclosed that Kim Junsu knew about the awards ceremony and the result of polls.
On the night of the ceremony, Kim Junsu posted on his twitter, “Even though I could not stand on the ceremony stage, I will repay the heartfelt appreciation everyone shown through future activities. I’m always very grateful”.
On the other hand, the organizers of the event stated many times before the ceremony, “The core value of this ceremony is fairness, popularity and professionalism”, and that “[the awards] will be awarded fairly because this ceremony is decided based upon the music source chart and netizens’ votes”.

host of awards show……LIES!! ALL LIES!!!!! and the BS continues…………….Next it will be they don’t have a album, so what are they promoting? They still will not be allowed on shows until someone with a friggin’ spine says “Let’s put them on” Grow some balls please!!!!!!
Here’s what I just posted on Allkpop:
This awards show was crooked – and then they have the NERVE to say ““The core of this award is fairness, popularity, and professionalism. It will be a fair award because it will be decided by the music chart rank and netizen votes.” What a joke. Here’s what I don’t get though: how can an organization like this basically throw their reputation in the toilet by doing something as blatant as this… for what?? For whom?? What’s their motivation? More sucking up to SM even after the lawsuit is over?? And in this totally publicly shameful way?? This is just insanity, what is going on in the SK entertainment business…
(my comments keeps on disappearing to nowhere)
its not the first time…
so yeah! its VERY questionable to the point of DISGUSTING.
Professionalism, my a**! talk the babies! even little kids will tell you somethings wrong with your heads (MELON)!
i want to smash some melons!!! X(
shame on them(whoever made the decisions)….if they(jyj) win they Should receive the award…that’s fair…jyj…to me, is korea’s national treasure.
Huh, those funny people!they try to make a clear statement but sorry guys, it’s clearly ur fault, stupid and it’s totally the most failure awards event ever!What a shame guys..We are not so stupid to believe on what ever they’ve said rite..
What is the meaning of fairness, popularity and professionalism???? boooo melon music awards!
@mickymong,
Agree totally with you and everyone here! This MMA is rubbish! How can they say that the core of the award is based on fairness, popularity and professionalism, when obviously by some “unknown magical force”, the artist who gets the highest number of votes did not get the award…Instead another artist with about 37,000 votes less, gets it. This does not make any sense at all.. Please lah, melon..you don’t know what you’re saying and bring shame to yourself.
This is sad.. Seems like JYJ still receives this kind of unfair treatment even after they are free from the lawsuits. SM, for once start making good of your words! Stop trying to bully JYJ! They cannot be bullied by you! They will continue to thrive!
SHAME on Melon
Melon = No Credibility.
Is there a way to get Melon investigated ?
Junsu gave his whole heart this year, every fabric of his sole , its only fair he gets an award, he has the rank , they wont write that he won an award for Tarantallegra when the results of Melon clearly state he secured the award.
on official records wont write Junsu ranked 1st securing his award, they would write he didn’t receive an award.
but the truth has to be written and spread,
where is wiki they have to add this scandal to Melon, its the truth. loud and clear. the fact have to be documented.
Wikipidia:

hope Wiki adds these facts for Melon. (Melon Scandal)
sorry, typo

i also applaud the person who wrote junsu’s wiki. very well done ^^
Can I have the link please? Was Paragames incidents also written?
@dolphinxiah No scandals was reported there yet i think. there should be, huh? bout his unfair treatments. the rest, his history, etc were well written tho ^^ Hopefully someone can add in.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junsu
@2017questa
Isn’t wiki a page where everyone can add something? Actually I wanted to add it, but I don’t know in which category, awards maybe?! hmmm
@makiforjyj haha i know. but i dont want to write something that i do not fully comprehend. i dont follow jyj news as closely as i should, so my writing can be full of loopholes….and grammar mistakes.
Finally the unfairness is spoken out and questioned. This is the 2nd time Junsu got humiliated. Whoever took over Junsu’s position, Junsu deserved it more. Period.
third time, one wasn’t highlighted , it was before he left for his Solo Asian tour, that was one of the first attacks on Junsu, then the SBS mistreatment , then MelOn.
one attack after another to break his spirit for pursuing music, Junsu needed all the praise words , he already suffers so much emotional and mental pain from one mistreatment to another and he needs all the supportive words he can get from fans, its very sensitive situation especially when a person creates something that is his own decisions what to wear, how to look and how to walk ect to do the concept of the MV/Album justice, he puts his sole and mind into music of his composition and image of his choice, needs supportive words most. i think Junsu is in a fragile state, these days, i hope the pain he feels because of all he endured since release of his album, including these recent events, i hope the pain just goes away from his heart. how many times he got hurt . why wont they let him sing what he wants , what makes him happy. these corporate bullies, God will punish them for what they did to Junsu.
@Anonymous
I would never, NEVER bet against Junsu winning it all in the end. That’s just who he is, that’s the kind of fighting spirit he has. He is single-focused. He wants to be the best. He will never give up – ever. For starters because he has gotten quite a bit of success, acclaim and high praise for his efforts in the last year. He has not exactly been the neglected wallflower of K-Pop. All of SK knows who he is and the word is out – Junsu is a class act, he is one of the best of the best singers in SK. Let’s watch him in 2013. I think he is going to continue doing what he has done all year: force open the doors that have been closed to him, walk through them and take over. No one wants it more than him – that much is plain. He’s got the chops to do it and he’s got the iron-clad will. Personally? As mad as I am at this latest slight? I’m betting the farm on Junsu to win. And I don’t think I’ll be walking away empty-handed.
Could you please refresh my memory about the first attack, the one that wasn’t highlighted. I must’ve been busy that I didn’t know about it.
They keep treating like JYJ doesn’t exist in their entertainment world.
This fact proofed how SK’s awards are worthless. There is NO fairness at all!!!
And I wonder where does the Fairness Trade Commission in SK to allow this kind of unfairness exist.
WHAT is the email and address of this Melon? Do they have a twitter account? We need to flood them with complaints! They are lowdown snakes! We should expose their corruption! Melon is a joke!
i might be able to give you the e-mail, wait for me, i’m surfing the net as we speak.
i’ll bring you their e-mail.
@anonymous
If you can find it, then let the emailing begin!
still browsing
no luck, but as i written below, LOEN are in charge of operating Melon and i wrote their phone below.
Though i think Facebook reveals the message to all.
just make sure this is about MelOn not beats. we don’t want fan war because of misunderstanding, Melon is the Blame in Focus here only. lets not give them a way out. No War with other fan-domes, the battle is With Melon SME and other corporations like them.
this is a great idea. we fans have to take acion against this unfairness
@Shirley
While we’re waiting for the Melon email address here’s their Facebook page. Anyone can go there, btw – you don’t need to be a member of Facebook to see it.
https://www.facebook.com/MelonMusicAwards
Some of the comments here are great. Why not just post them on their Facebook page so they can see them?
@lilibaiyu;
Great idea! JYJ supporters, let’s get the ball rolling!
@Shirley
Here this is again:
OK, here’s the link: http://www.iloen.com/
Go to the Site Map (see upper right corner of page) then go to “About Loen – Contact Us”, then click on the email icon for customer support.
Kind of a labyrinth but I guess they really don’t want to hear from people. lol
Thanks for this @lili I needed to put my two cents worth into the mix!
@xiahspearl12
And thanks SO much for doing it! We all need to become proactive, everyday. Because every day there are things we can do, ways to speak out and be heard to help JYJ end this cruel chapter in their history. We have to do it. Believe me, it’s a far more empowering feeling to do something than to just sit, feeling helpless and angry. And there are many things to do.
Go here: http://www.standupforjyj.com
and here: https://www.facebook.com/StandUp4Jyj
These two places should be bookmarked by all JYJ3ers because there’s something new to do or read every day.
Thanks!

@Anonymous
Yes, it’s the Customer Support email link.
that’s great.
@Anonymous
Great! Thank you for your efforts! Let’s give Melon a piece of our minds!
This is all BS. As a JYJ fan i know my artist, I know what they are capable of doing, and their talent. These award show things are bogus anyway, its all based on their label and popularity. Of course I’m upset that they are not recognized by their own country, but still whether they receive awards or not, it doesn’t really matter because all that matters is that they know that fans stand behind them 100% they have our unconditional support. Plus I don’t consider them idols, they are real artist who put out good quality music.
You may be right, but as @dolphinxiah posted above, it’s the second time Junsu got humiliated in public and that’s a pretty big deal in Korea, not to speak of everything they’ve (JYJ) been through, and even if we know how amazing and talented they are, imagin how you’d feel if you would have been treated like this over and over and over for years… this just can’t be… I would really like to know who those bastards can live with themselves…
It’s melon… so ya. What is done is done tho its still friggin sad that the system is so screwed up.
On the bright side, there are still some more official awards like the KBS besticon and all. Don’t forget to vote everyday! Super Junior is cutting it close so we have to try our best… *not to discriminate any other bands, just vote for the one you like most* 😀
HA! #FAIL and STINKY that’s all i have to say about melon.
Wow, that’s sad that Junsu didn’t get if it’s obvious that he won by fan votes. Yep, it looks like those fake award shows are still lapdog for and not wanting to lose big name label *cough SM cough*.
JYJ fighting! We fans are 100% support you. ^^
OK, here’s the link: http://www.iloen.com/
Go to the Site Map (see upper right corner of page) then go to “About Loen – Contact Us”, then click on the email icon for customer support.
Kind of a labyrinth but I guess they really don’t want to hear from people. lol
would digital sales have played a role in the outcome?
We might also just consider shooting off an email to the Korean Fair Trade Commission. kftc@korea.kr,
I sent mine a few minutes ago. We may as well let them know all the same stuff is still happening.
@ lilibaiyu;
Yay!
“The core of this award is fairness, popularity, and professionalism. It will be a fair award because it will be decided by the music chart rank and netizen votes.”
Please. Just stop. If you’re going to be doing something entirely unjust and can’t even give the proper statistics to respond to raised suspicions, statements like these should be last on your list. How about a proper explanation of how you chose the receiver of the award if “The core of this award is fairness, popularity, and professionalism” ? Why don’t you do that rather than fuel more negative opinions? THIS is what I call shameless. People who actually registered in your site to vote for Junsu deserve some explanation as to how all their efforts were not counted.
But whatever, no matter what Melon does now, no one is convinced especially when bullshit is the way you respond to them. Obviously, a proper explanation/reason does not exist because the whole ordeal was never about “fairness” as Melon loves stressing on. It’s about being careful to not displease big-shots because no one in this business has spines or the guts to becoming a proper human being it seems.
@lilymichaelis
Hello, my amazingly cogent young friend! Your posts as usual amaze me and make me wonder anew about what an idiot I was at your age. 🙂
Please copy and paste your brilliant analysis here: http://www.allkpop.com/2012/12/questions-of-fairness-raised-for-netizen-popularity-award-at-2012-melon-music-awards
and here: https://www.facebook.com/MelonMusicAwards
I think others need to read what you wrote.
🙂
Well, I would love to be loud so I’ll do just that ^_^ But it’s YOUR posts that amaze me and I’m sure a lot of other people feel the same way:-)
On the side note, I AM an idiot. I go to AKP sometimes and when the comments push me off the edge, I actually bother to reply to them. I try not to anymore, because it’s not like it changes anything. Besides, they get to hide behind their screens, so who knows what sort of people they actually are? I wonder what right they have to just bluntly bash on people they’ve never met. So now, rather than anger, I feel pity. And although I vowed to myself never to visit AKP comment sites anymore, sometimes I can’t help it^^;;
@lilymichaelis
Hi- I always go to allkpop when the story originated from there and kind of take the temperature of the posters already there before I write anything. I don’t know, I could be wrong but I’ve noticed a real change in the sheer number of positive posts versus the stupidly negative ones that I used to see there all the time in days gone by. But I think it’s important for us to post there because we need to get the word OUT on several fronts and they have a huge audience, just filled with people who have NO facts whatsoever. It’s incredible to me how few people actually know much of anything about k-pop besides “who’s super cute.”
I wonder whether at least half of this audience do their research before making conclusions, or should I say assumptions? As you’ve stated, going there to point out facts that are missing would be the core reason we should approach sites like AKP. I was also as surprised at the sheer lack of information and fabricated facts that are passed around without a second thought. I should focus there rather than on those who know the facts, yet refuse to acknowledge them and mindlessly bash only because hate blinds them. Thank you^_^
Now since they did not let JunSu win the award in Melon, we will make sure ROOFTOP PRINCE comes out first in THE BEST KOREAN DRAMA 2012 which is also a Netizens’ voting !!! FIGHTING JYJers and the whole of JYJ FANDOM !!!!!!!
I also take this opportunity to wish JAEJOONG, YOOCHUN, JUNSU AND FAMILY, JYJ3 ADMINS, ALL JYJers AND JYJ FANDOM AND EVERYONE HERE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A GREAT HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013 AHEAD !!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! CHEERS !!!
slap JYJ Junsu throughout the online world like this……><
EQUALS to slap JUSTICE once again both inside & outside the courtroom.
Dear SK court , is this not disturb each others’ business as made the 28th Nov 2012 agreement ?????
@aurora
I certainly believe that it is. Definitely a continued violation, which I mentioned in my email to the K. Free Trade Commission last night. Please everyone, write an email to them today at: kftc@korea.kr and let them know that things are STILL not right with the banning of the members of JYJ.
