“As an actor, kiss scene and undressing scene are also the kind of work that I’ll have to do.”
Kim Jaejoong, a member of JYJ, challenged the film after the drama.
In ‘Code Name: Jackal’ that he was working with Song Jihyo, the junior of his company, he opened many kinds of charms that he had never shown before..
In that film, the most attractive scene of Jaejoong is the action scene in historical drama that Choi Hyun filmed with long hair.
– Honestly, I was surprised by kiss scene with Kim Sungryoung. Aren’t you afraid of your fans’ reaction?
▲ If I can’t do it because I’m afraid of my fans’ reaction, I think it’ll make me stop my growing as an actor. In the end, it’s the thing that I’ll have to do. I filmed it with the determination of everything I do..
– Nevertheless, the most difficult scene that you’ve filmed..
▲ The scene that I relieved myself, not wearing pants in front of Jihyo.. I felt afraid.. and ashamed.. I could film the undressing scene of my upper body but.. somehow, I felt ashamed about the undressing scene of my lower body. I think it would be better if I were naked.. And I also felt a bit uncomfortable when she saw my action.
– Why did you choose ‘Jackal’ as your first film?
▲ There were also several other scenarios. But I had chosen it because it was not a kind of serious or a kind of blockbuster. So I had no pressure to act and I could act comfortably. And I also liked that it’s a new character that I haven’t shown ever before.
– Did you have any pressure about the comical role?
▲ I felt positive at that point. I wished to show the comical role when many people thought that I didn’t care about it..
– Evaluate your acting in your first movie.
▲ Actually, it’s difficult to evaluate it because it was my first time watching my face on the screen. Dramas are evaluated in real time, but movies are evaluated after filming and editing for a long time.. I feel the difference just like that..
– What did Yuchun & Junsu say about your film?
▲ They told me it was good and funny..
– What did the people around you say about working with Oh Dalsu?
▲ Many actors of my age told they envy me.. Definitely, he has something much more than others. The funniest part of our team is.. we–Oh Dalsu, Han Sangjin, Song Jihyo and me–were constantly talking about something.
– What was his[Oh Dalsu] advise to you??
▲ Originally, he is a man of few words. He told me only two things.
The 1st meal that we had before we filmed, he said.. ‘You took a hard role.. It’ll be harder for you.’
And then the after-party that we had after the premiere.. he told me.. ‘I think it’ll be better to act in film continuously. This film is yours and you did so great.. Act continuously in movies.’
He is famous for giving not advice others. So I feel honored and thankful to him because he told me like that.
– How similar are the sasaeng fans in film compared to reality?
▲ It was so more [in the film] than in reality. It was exaggerated. Actually, it was so funny to me when I read the scenes that Choi Hyun’s sasaeng-fan was sleeping next to him and she put a taser to him. And, honestly, she who played as the sasaeng fan did really great. I heard that she was on the top in the acting audition. As the audiences might be worried in some scenes, I intentionally had comical reactions.
– I could strongly feel the critical eyes about the problems such as sasaeng, sponsors and the kinds of shadows in pop culture..
▲ I think they were used to expressing the situation around Choi Hyun, not to criticize or satirize the pop culture industry. Actually, someone has the problem like sponsors, stalking or something.. but how can all these things be happening to only one person? We just wanted to make some rumors in this industry more interesting.
– Like Choi Hyun, I heard that you had experienced many kinds of part-time jobs…
▲ I had experiences when I was a teenager. I did it for only 3 years, but I felt it was really long.
Because of that experience, I’ve learned lessons from it… ‘Never stand alone as a teenage.’
I’ll never allow the independence of my kids if he or she is a teenager.
I had to make money to pay the monthly rent and to make a living… All these things were too hard to do..
When I portrayed his hard times, I could do it well because it reminded me [of myself].
The funny memory is.. I was washing dishes in the kitchen of ‘** Garden’.. Everybody liked me..
– You have lots of fans but because of that, I think you feel uncomfortable to live..
▲ There are some problems in my normal life. It’s hard to go to a famous place or a place that is crowded.
It could be possible if I go to the party with staffs after working..
But I can’t imagine eating some delicious food with my friend at a famous restaurant..
– PSY is so hot, all around the world.. How do you feel about that?
▲ I think he really deserves it.. He has lived so hard and has made songs diligently.
He is a greedy person when he is working but he also takes care of the people around him well.
He always accepts calls and messages anywhere in the world.
And when he has a concert, he always calls and then invites people to his concert. I think his humility made him [who he is] now.
– JYJ also receives many supports and loves from abroad, but I think you want some more..
▲ Honestly, it’s a huge thing that he would be ranked within 100th on the Billboard charts. But he is on the top.
He did very big things. He has inspired Korean singers who want to work in the US pop industry.
He shows that anyone could succeed in the US, although he is not young or not handsome and not American traditional pop-style..
We also have plans to release a worldwide album in English. We’ll also challenge the world stage continuously.

“We also have the plan to release the worldwide album in English. We’ll also challenge the world stage continually.”
That’s what I want to hear. Go for it!
By the way JJ, you never watched yourself in “Heaven’s Postman”? 😉 Pretty damn good in that one dude. Love the insights in the interview, keep challenging yourself. Never be satisfied, there’s always something to learn in life. You guys are doing great!
“The scene that I relieved myself while not wearing pants in front of Jihyo…..And I also felt a bit uncomfortable when she saw my action.”
Ok…so….umm….does that mean it wasn’t faked? I could NOT imagine having to do that! Or maybe it was faked but still embarrassing? Either way, must have been difficult!
Also, I wouldn’t mind having a conversation with Ji Hyo….
I think he meant he wasn’t wearing like, regular pants, and just filmed it with some shorts on. c:
It’s impossible to make him film it with lower body naked lol, that’ll be like, unethical. :s
But I think that is exactly what he meant…………….
You can’t relieve yourself in shorts you know……………..
But yeah it must have been hell embarrassing
yes , Jaejoong, acting is important career for you . This becomes a huge driven engine to boost singing career now.
And about hard time in the past, those life experience actually help building up a tough personalities.
Yet those hard time , still prevailing in this planet. Just in SK, many young ppl living as $880,000 community – a grouping work to death yet barely could save a penny, no future, no hope.
Wish you can work something on this to motivate these grouping .
“He shows that anyone could succeed in the US, although he is not young or not handsome and not American traditional pop-style..
We also have plans to release a worldwide album in English. We’ll also challenge the world stage continuously.”
oh gawd no…..i love you jyj, but for the love of….dont sing in english again until you have a better grasp of the culture and the language. It makes me wince a bit to listen to unintelligible engrish like “ayyy girl”. Haphazardly releasing another english album would kill me. psy did well despite not even utilizing english in his song, he appealed to us Americans with his unique sense of style and satirical understanding of american culture.
I don’t know but personally I thought the reason Psy did well because … 1. he got Lucky 2. People don’t take him seriously and just enjoy his dancing and catchy music.
and it seems to me that anyone trying to follow his steps wouldn’t go far.
Yeah, I doubt even PSY himself will be able to recreate that popularity/success.
I agree with you that people dont take him seriously and enjoy his catchy music……but I think the more important point is that Psy doesnt take himself too seriously, and is not afraid to poke fun of himself or take enormous risks…….jyj, for lack of a better explanation, is very “safe” in terms of fitting within that korean flower boy band mold…….even if songs like “ayyy girl” was released in perfect english, I don’t think it would be very well received
I don’t think anything in k-pop will be well received in the US ..I’m talking about everyone here .. even those idols people think can ” fit in ” because they’re ” American styled”.
the only people who would care are people that have interest in kpop or its Elements ( fashion, dancing,Pairings..). and they’d still have limited interest, not enough to make it worth the effort.
I would support JYJ if they decided to really go for the US market BUT I really hope they don’t ..seriously .
I would hope they have the freedom to work in all of Asia ..be one of the biggest Artists there and do world tours to meet their fans everywhere.
I understand that there may be some that will be turned off by an English album.
I, for one, am totally excited for another JYJ album be it English, Korean or Swahili 😉
While “The Beginning” was anything but perfect, I happened to enjoy that album and loved their cute accents and not so perfect pronounciations … especially Junsu.
Half the time I can’t understand what the heck English-speaking “artists” sing about anyway. At least JYJ have an excuse.
Kudos to JYJ for continuing to challenge themselves. Let’s face it, if JYJ were too scared to take risks, we’d still be talking about JJ, YC and JS as “from DBSK.”
I’m positive they will work hard to make their new album the best they possibly can. Junsu improved so much with “Uncommited” so I’m confident their next album will sound great.
I actually loved the Beginning album even if it wasn’t perfect .. and I would like another English album .
I’d love for them to have a Japanese album too if that’s ever possible.
The only thing I didn’t like about Ayyy Girl was Kanye West’s part — “on my tongue” – yuck.
I loved their harmonies and didn’t have any trouble understanding them. I’m waiting very impatiently for their next album in any language. I just hope they don’t chase the American market and instead stay true to their own style. That is what I see behind Psy’s success.
What I like best about JYJ’s music is their voices, their harmonies, and the passion and artistry that shows through.
” If I can’t do it because I’m afraid of my fans’ reaction, I think it’ll make me stop my growing as an actor.”
as much as fans are important to a celeb , giving a person his space to grow is needed .
there are far too many people invested in idols(and actors) life . and I’m not talking about fans support projects or complaints about Products ..I mean the ” he/she should and shouldn’t do this ..” and ” I know what he means because I know him better ..” nonsense.
having an opinion about things your favorite and base is doing is really a good thing .. just because you like someone doesn’t mean your going to like everything they do . but when it turns into you trying to make them do what you want by harassing them ( in whatever way) then you need to really think of getting a hobby or something else to do with your time.
Nice jacket btw… ^^
I watched it already.. and that scene.. I don’t know.. honestly I was kinda disturbed by that.. well quite shocked actually..
but I support him anyway.. Actor Kim Jaejoong fightiiiing…!!!!! 😀
“I think it would be better if I were naked.”.
OMG OMG OMG JAJEONG i’m not perverted
I was shocked and couldn’t even breathe at the line ‘The scene that I relieved myself, not wearing pants in front of Jihyo’
but it’s a relief bcoz of this line ‘I think it would be better if I were naked’ ….. till now …. I’m in the state of shock o.o O.O
Jaejoong should definitely appear in more dramas and movies. He’s laid the first stone and been steadily going forward ever since, so there’s no reason not to continue sharpening his skills to become an even better actor, especially when he can freely pursue solo activities now. I don’t think there’s any problem if JYJ releases another English album. If they want to improve in English, they have to challenge it, learn, and speak it. Although The Beginning wasn’t a top-notch album, no one can deny that Empty, Be my girl, Be the one, even Ayyy girl, are what get the audience excited during JYJ’s concerts.
“….. If they want to improve in English, they have to challenge it, learn, and speak it” ….Yes, i absolutely agree with you there. It was part of the reason why DBSK appealed to me so much when they were able to ingratiate themselves within the Japanese culture and worked hard into mastering the language and appealing to Japanese fans……the amount of years and work the boys put into breaking into the japanese market, that’s the type of effort and commitment I would at the VERY least expect out of JyJ if they were trying to make an english worldwide album a success
right now, I dont know if JYJ is at that stage where they are ready to take on US markets again….i would love to see them succeed, tho
I agree wholeheartedly @Angie if JYJ never takes up the English language challenge, they possibly risk losing out on new fans who know little or nothing abt Kpop. Once a new person hears their voices; it’s hard not to want to listen to them more; in any language!!!(IMO) 😀
I agree. I was never into k-pop. The Beginning was the first album that I’ve bought from a Korean group because I liked the songs, even Ayyy Girl. If JYJ had not released an English album, I would not have known more about them or their past existence as TVXQ.
I will always appreciate Ayyy Girl’s song and video, as well as the album. Having Kanye West in your video did more for the hype and social standing for JYJ worldwide, then anything they could have done at the time. To be perfectly honest the English album is what saved them. If they didn’t push forward with the album and get it out inspite of Avex and SM they would have been easy pickings, and would have been crushed under the weight. The album gave them a platform to tour on, in a universal language that is spoken around the world. It doesn’t matter that it wasn’t perfect, it elevated them to World Wide Status because of the strength of their showing. For the first time JYJ was leading something, and they weren’t relying on being the opening act for someone else like it had been done in the past. They did it on their own. His people skills aside, whenever Kanye works with someone it gets press, people start to talk about it and get curious. There are people who discovered JYJ from watching the video or hearing the song.
