what does it mean regarding all music charts? How is the album doing in Korea itself?
Hanteo is the K-charts, so that meanst for last week, JJ was #1 in Korea…
I don’t really get your question?
Because when I bought the album from kpop town online, it said that it counts towards Hanteo charts. And I’m not in Korea.
But your album is shipped from Korea, your store purchases from Korea. As the album was not released in any other country. So it counts towards local sales.
Yeah as Teemeah says, your album still comes from Korea.
KpopTown is based in Korea I think ~~ their sales are directly reported to Hanteo, whether you live in Korea or not.
Being an Ifan, I get news from Ifan point of view since I don’t speak Korean. So, I just wanted to know how JJ is doing in Korea itself. I know he is very popular in Japan and Yoochun is now very popular in China. But if there’s no differentiation between Korean sales and international sales in Hanteo then that’s fine.
Do radio stations play his songs in South Korea? I’m in the USA —- I wonder….not heard or seen any newsbits from SK or releases from TV broadcast news since the 16th and 17th when Jaejoong’s MV and album released respectively… eery silence from this sector… but online and globally… netizens are going crazy over MV and Jaejoong’s awesome album! AND yet, this global support … this worldwide recognition of the awesome artist in Kim Jaejoong and JYJ as group – is not enough for the blinders to rise …
Hopefully Japan will be more welcoming —- maybe they should move to Japan — all their activities, businesses as well and their philanthopy — heck any country in this globe will more than welcome these three men — artists with pure hearts, humanitarians and deep sense of nationalism — SOUTH KOREA — these three men love their country like no other — why can’t you love them back! (except for the fans and their friends and family … affiliates .. — i’ve witnessed your dedication and I deeply bow before you. I am awed by your unwavering love and support for JYJ!)
It is very sad if this kind of hard-balling continues!
43+k is a lil disappointing 😦 Junsu sold more I think. Also how was the preorders ?!
That’s quite “regular” figures for Korea. Because not all the sales are reported on Hanteo charts depending on where you buy.
Even different stores of the same company, some report the sales, some don’t.
Unlike you, I was quite happy^^
This week were strong competitors that released their mini-album and MVs such as CN BLUE and Infinite H and others.
CN BLUE agency reported they received 100K Pre-orders, Infinite H 120K Pre-orders
But there isn’t a report of Jaejoong’s mini-album..
yep I am wondering why cjes didn’t say anything about JJ’s pre-orders. But some stores have reported that the ablum is almost out of stock. Also cjes didn’t mention JJ’s concert after they decided the song for the live. However I have to mention that some agencies overstate the pre-orders and sales just to boast the popularity of their idols. – -|||
i like that cjes doesn’t go overboard with the hype
@Bookthiefj – consider January fierce competition & low consumption season, actually Jae has been doing well, esp for music industry ( Britain HMV even goes bankruptcy, so sad)
Strong competition also come from Baek Ji Young, Lee Sing Gi & Infinity’s Challenge new song “강북멋쟁이” which takes down SNSD IGAB & ranks # 1 now 😛
Worldwide music producers have greater confidence in digital music, yet not in physical album anymore. For current figures, must say Jae still shines , i believe both physical & digital sales will keep growing.
what is infinity challenge and why is it so popular?
Infinite is a rokkie idol group. They gained popularity in less than two years. One of them released a solo album and it sold 50k on hanteo.
“Infinite Challenge” is a South Korean TV show where artists (usually those who were famous before this “Hallyu Wave” nonsense) and some others like indie bands, solo acts etc compete against one another until a final winner is declared. It is kinda like “American Idol” except the contestants already have careers (some were very famous) and are generally much more talented than idols or newbies. I liked the first season much better but I did like some of the contestants in the second season too. It started to lose appeal to me because the songs started to get a bit too…boring. (personal taste)
It also had two previous seasons but under different names so really it is a show running for 4 seasons so far. I don’t know if you read the last Open Discussion Post but we discussed that many of these idol companies are trying to throw a wrench under this show because it is a legitimate threat against the idol-dominated music charts.
Aurora just gave an example. Artists competing in “Infinite Challenge” have released a song and that was enough to take “Girl’s Generation” down a peg.
Urghh! I’m going crazy!!!! Not “Infinite challenge” it is “Infinity Challenge”
There have been only two seasons…I don’t know where I got 4…..I’m losing my head!
Actually I think “Infinite Challenge” is a real show right? Like “Running Man”?
@retrokim
thank you for replying so fast lol.
yeah i read somewhere that “infinity challenge” albums are super popular and are a threat to SNSD’s IGAB all-kills.
man i can’t wait for the hallyu wave to go away.
@ghostitos , @retrokim
Hello , this Infinity’s Challenge phenomenon as concluded by Lee Seung Chui is much more inspiring :
Quoted :
“We’re opening a new generation where someone like Psy can create a ripple that runs worldwide so we have to look at the bigger picture. Personally, and I’m sorry to say this, I felt that K-Pop was fundamentally weak before Psy’s success. It felt wrong calling it the Hallyu wave because there was only one genre being featured. Producers should not be wasting their time fighting broadcast companies but instead focusing their attention on creating and exporting a more diversity of music like underground, ballad, and rock.”
* Infinity’s Challenge digital music income is mainly for charity purpose. And this irritates KEPA is
quite a confusion to the mass public.
This is an era for real music, no more idols group and autotones.
Time ear for JYJ , who explore more in real music.
If you absolutely have to compare, Junsu had a much bigger first day (presales perhaps?) but Jae’s doing better on the subsequent days.
I think this figure is good for just 4 days, hopefully the word of mouth keeps him going strong.
But, to me it’s a lot. It’s just 4 day. A little more day he’d passed 100k barriers already.
Here’s top sales for solo singers in their first week.
Kim Hyun Joong 64,547
GD 58,954
Xia Junsu 56,117
Jay Park 51,452
So 43,413 for 4 days is within the range (we still have 3 days more to add)
For me it’s impressive enough.
How do you know all these sales figures???
Anyway hoping JJ will beat Kim Hyun Joong 😛
Don’t think KHY will mind getting beat by one of his best friends 🙂
Thank you for the info ! I like to say, for a mini rock album, Jaes album is receiving praise and positive reviews !
***also I hear that many bulk orders are not counted towards hanteo unless you specifically ask them to >.< idk why so complicated now…ESP when jae has many international fans
u got GD’s wrong.its abt >68k in his 1st week . 43k is an impressive number but tbh it didnt meet my expectations, considering his international popularity 😦 junsu got >49k albums sold in 4 days~
@Bookthiefj
I understand that comparing JJ to JS, sales-wise is inevitable.
However, what makes each one so appealing is that each singer leans heavily toward a different style. JS prefers dance/r&b style while JJ prefers rock.
Dance music is very popular in Asia and other parts of the world. As much as I love Junsu’s cd, JJ took a greater risk is picking a genre that is not as mainstream.
What I’m most proud of is that they both did a great job in their respective genres.
Add to that the fact that they’re swimming with sharks (i.e. the SK entertainment industry) and against the tide.
Actually Jaejoong is better than Junsu. From the list of the highest selling album of all time (groups and solos) for the first week (Gaon chart) Jaejoong rank #11, Junsu rank #12, G-dragon rank#10. No. 1-9 are all groups album, so you can say that JJ rank no #2 of best selling solo album of all time. Junsu used to be #1 until GDragon and Jaejoong released their solo album as well.
From France, I pre ordered this mini-album in Kpoptown, has it been taken into account in the total number of 43413?
Thank you for the answer.
Sorry the answer is unknown….
Hanteo count the sales after the retail transactions are made. Dvdheaven said they count in sales after they shipped the ablums. Usually the transaction is made when the product is shipped or when the money is paid. But I don’t know if there is difference between each online store.Maybe you sent them an email.
If fanclubs pre-order ablums, they can ask which day they wanted the sale to be counted in. Like a few days ago, a chinese fansite asked korean fansite to check if their order of over 7,000 copies is counted in hanteo, and the answer is a no,because the fansite did not give the exact date they wanted. And after communication, the 7,000 is shown on the forth day sale(9,065).
It IS confusing…But hanteo chart is still a reliable chart. cause it mostly reflect retail sales.
Thank you for the info about “bulk buy not counted to Hanteo at all”, is this a new procedure? to indicate what date to be counted…
Thank you for your response. But when I pre ordered, I paid immediately, and on January 18 I received an email saying that they sent my mini-album and that I would receive within 10 days. Excuse me if I am direct, but what matters to me is to get my mini-album to know Jaejong French teens to whom I give tutoring and homework help.
Yay! I knew he’d do well!
Ladies… We are doing a tweet campaign for JYJ. here is the post link http://t.co/rve4prYw . It should go to @MnetGlobal @MnetKR @KBSWorldTV @KBSMusicBank @SBSNOW @SBS_inkigayo @leesanghoC @showchampion1 @withMBC @MBCMusicCore @SBSKPOPSTAR. To let our young men perform on SKTV. courtesty of Standup4JYJ.
Well deserved.Good selling Jaejoong.I love every song in it. My Jaejoong’s vocal impressed me big time,I almost forgot he can soar and the way he rocks with soft emotion in All Along.Unheard of.So well done.

They could no longer sell Jaejoong’s first batch of album production since it has been sold in just a few minutes. Whether or not there would become a secondary production will be clear tomorrow. RT @Hani_Shop_Korea http://tinyurl.com/arj5g6w
And there’s a tweet going around that now overseas bulk buy isn’t included in HANTEO at all (I’m not sure if it’s confirmed) which is disadvantageous to Jaejoong’s sales record since some of his international fansites are buying in bulk to save shipping costs and to make it easier for those fans having hard time buying online.
