So, I’ve done a “little” search about this guy “Jang Geun Suk”.. and learned that he is hated in Korea?! I got curious because I noticed his tweets are so weird, I almost commented about it here, but refrained myself from doing so.. I thought, do normal people write like that on Twitter? I don’t know how to describe his Tweets… They’re just weird like he comes from a different planet…
So I found that he is known for having a really bad attitude, and is kinda crazy.. But he never had any big ugly scandal or did anything really bad.. He’s just different.. I don’t know if I should feel sorry for him, or worried about Jae hanging out with a guy with such a bad reputation.. Do you know any facts? Not just the silly rumors that I read… I want to know if he is really as bad as people say or not.. And why do Koreans hate him so much?

JGS is a hugely successful actor of many years standing. It’s hard for me to imagine that he’s “hated” anywhere. If he is, it doesn’t seem to stop him from starring in hit dramas one after the other. (For those of you who really don’t know who he is, I suggest you seek out the K-drama “You’re Beautiful.” He plays a popstar.) He’s also one of the richest entertainers in Korea. Again, not much of an indication that he’s “hated” there.

I don’t think he’s “hated” in Korea. It’s actually the opposite. But like every successful star, your antifans are as numerous as your fans. He was an actor before he was an idol. He does both movies (eg. Doremi.., Baby and I, etc) and drama (Hong gil dong – the prince, Beethoven Virus, You’re beautiful, Mary stayed out all night, Love rain, etc). He promotes mostly in Japan rather than Korea like our boys use to. He’s considered an “A-list” actor.
he started getting hate recently mostly because of his image change. a lot of people preferred his image in You’re Beautiful or anything before… except, recently it’s been getting a little O__o (even I had the same reaction when seeing his recent pic he tweeted w/ a high pony tail and white shimmery eyeliner.) … However if it’s who he is, then that’s just who he is. (People should respect it imo)

Well, I wouldn’t go nearly so far as to say he’s hated, it’s just that he’s not really a very good singer and there are so many great singers in Korea… (he’s sitting next to one of them on the couch.) What he is is an excellent actor who WANTS TO BE a singer. Big difference. 🙂 But he’s young and he wants to try it, so that’s what he’s doing. Same with Lee Min Ki. Also a fairly terrible singer but he was just dying to give it a try. I think they confuse looking the part with Being a singer. As very successful and excellent actors you can see how they could make this assumption – JGS did a fantastic job of playing a famous popstar in “You’re Beautiful” and I think the experience went to his head a bit. Now he really wants to be one.

I’ll always like JGS, no matter how hated he supposedly is in Korea.
He’s not mainstream and doesn’t fit the mould of the typical K-celeb but that’s what makes him so interesting. He actually has a personality. Maybe he’s weird and eccentric and downright odd but I’d rather a weirdo than another minimally talented, bland humanoid from the Korean celebrity factory. There are way too many of those as it is, especially in Kpop.

Yes, maybe that’s what it is. I’ve loved him from the first drama I saw him in, “Hong Gil Dong.” I kind of have a feeling that this drama may be largely responsible for his fans calling him “The Prince” because he played the Ultimate Prince in that drama. It’s really a great drama, btw. Highly recommended.

actually… it would be surprising if he was liked in Korea because really ..just look at the k-celebs that are presumed well liked and popular with the Korean public .. look at how they dress and talk , what their ” image” is like . the picture perfect future husband/son in low.
JGS way of talking and his style of dressing would work in Japan ( maybe) but it will piss off most Koreans .
the thing about him is he does have talent in acting ( not much in singing) and he doesn’t have any notoriety . so the hate he gets is the kind of ” I just don’t like him , he looks weird ” thing .

I’m pretty sure he also has a huge international following, but really, I don’t think it’s correct to say he’s hated in Korea. That’s a strong word and he is a gifted young artist who has had great success. Actually the more things I’ve read about him here and elsewhere today, the more I’ve felt that he has a LOT in common with Jaejoong.

To keep some fans reassured, JKS is not a bad companion. Yes, he openly smokes and drinks but he does not have any bad reputation other than weird fashion sense and people who think he is arrogant.
JKS is a child actor who works since the age of 5. His family went bankrupt when he was still a mid school kid, and he became the main breadwinner who pay the rental by skipping school to work as model and actor.

JKS is a very bright person who knows how to make people like him. He just doesn’t want to do it as he wants to stay true to himself . He doesn’t want to feel manipulated to say things against his heart, hence he set up his own company so that he can focus on doing things he likes.
Korea public does not like him because of his personality. They can accept idols with 4D personality like Kim Heechul but they want actors to be more mysterious, clean cut, to always answer the “safest” answer. JKS is a very ambitious young man and is very vocal about it. Korea public are not used to actor behaving this way. And he also has a very 4D personality and people cannot understand his sense of humour because he is an actor and not an idol. He will ordered pizza for heechul and write things like “For Big Space Star who is helping protect our country, Asia Prince has treated him to pizza. ” People will comment that he is arrogant because he called himself Asia Prince. He always laugh that he is a self-proclaimed Asia Prince but he called himself that because he wants to remind himself this is the goal he wants to achieve.
JKS loves to make new friends and has a lot of good friends. Even though general public misunderstood that he is arrogant, he is actually well known in the industry to be a very humble and hardworking person.
JKS is fully aware that he is hated by a lot of people but he is surrounded by tons of friends because he is a loyal friend and frank person. He is friend with Heechul, Hong Ki, rest of Chocoball members, Song Joong Ki, Rain, Psy, Hyde, Boa, Ji Sung, Kim Hyung-jun and recently Jaejoong etc because of his personality.
I can understand why he and Jaejoong can be good friends. They both like wine, are both hardworking and people who loves to make friends. JKS also produced his own concert. He loves japan culture and they are both into entrepreneurship. JKS has his own building in Japan that sells his own product. A cafe, beauty spa, boutique , shop which sell his official merchandise etc. I guess they can share business ideas together too.

Ok I only heard him sing in the movies I have watched thanks for sharing as no one is loved all over so good to know I am not alone in thinking he is adorable.

Wow – nice one! Thanks for your comment. I really enjoyed reading it and I learned some things I didn’t know about JGS. As I said yesterday, the more I know about him the more he seems like the perfect friend for Jaejoong. They are both inordinately attractive, very very successful and they both DON’T like to be told what they can and can’t do. Having said that, they both are inherently polite and caring of others. I remember they were both on stage together at an awards show last year but they did not publicly seem to connect then. Now they have.

Since these words are taken from a radio show and are his own words, I think it is pretty authentic.. He was asked why he isn’t active as a singer in Korea.. “I’ve already made a bad impression. I’m worried that even more will hate me if I dance, so I plan to just stay quiet as an actor. Early this year, I recovered my image through a documentary and recently returned back to being a disliked person.”
The fans in the comments seem to know about this too, so there is no need for you to “imagine” he is hated since he stated the fact himself.. I know the drama “You’re beautiful” and that was his peek of success before his career fell down the drain for some mysterious reason… His latest dramas had very bad ratings.. and the fans say that he’s been hated for over three years already. I do feel sorry for him, because it seems he was hated for just being a blunt person and showing his true self… But I’m not sure if he really deserves my sympathy, that is why I was asking here for someone who knows some facts about his past..
You might say, well if Jaejoong is his friend, then he must be a good guy.. But I don’t necessarily believe that.

I hope he doesn’t actually believe he’s “hated” in the entirety of Korea. As an actor, I love him. (as a singer, not so much.) Honestly, all the crazy haters, malicious rumor starters and the antifans in K-Pop would drive me to drink some days. lol
I don’t think even Jaejoong would know who’s really a good person or a good friend at first , that kind of thing isn’t always clear with everybody .
but thinking about it won’t do much good because it’s Jaejoong’s choice to hang out with whoever he wants and he’s the only one who would answer to his choices.
