Members from idol pop group or singers who are not schooled in acting are actively going into drama serials.
The criticism regarding their unpolished acting are already a thing in the past. Although some singers are venturing out in their first drama, they are winning critics and viewers over with their outstanding skills and perceptive emotions. For those idol singers who had succeeded in drama, they are called drama idol star.
So, who among these Korean singers are most suited to be drama stars? One Korean media company did a survey with 25 currently most popular Korean drama directors and below are the findings. Please note that for the sake of fairness, those idol singers who had not acted in any drama for the past 5 years were excluded from the survey.
In 2nd place is Park Yuchun (JYJ) who has starred as lead actor in many TV series was voted by 7 director for this honor. One director commented that oversea export sales doubled for Sungkyunkwan Scandal was due to the fact that Park Yuchun was the lead actor.

the sad thing is that yoochunnie still receive hate because he is an idol, just because there’s a lot of non-talented idols trying acting people like him, top and lee seunggi(which can act) get pre-judged.. which is so sad.
and i really don’t get why jung yonghwa is there.. is just as bad as kim hyunjoong, in the idols-trying to act class.
I just listen to the positive feedbacks and seriuosly, Yoochun receives so many compliments about his acting….
I don’t even care what the haters said because celebrities are normal human being too(not perfect)…

still not understand why they include SeungGi in the list, since all i know is SeungGi isnt even an idol to begin with. he started as solo singer first back in 2004 (when he was 17) then started as actor in 2005.
ps : i didnt said this with ill-intent. it jst really confused me. and some SeungGi fans i know even kinda mad that many Kmedias like to called him acting-dol when he isnt an idol to begin with. he’s more like singer AND actor (and MC too).

I can understand how his fans may be ticked off with the continued reference, but let’s be honest here. The Korean media, like others, operate in lazy mode. News writers and journalists no longer really ‘work’ at their craft, IMHO, all they really do now is just use a keyboard.

I watched Lee Seung Gi in Shining Inheritance, he wasn’t bad, but i don’t get his charm and how he is so popular.
I just recently watched Shining Inheritance. I’ll say this, given the fact that he made the character so reprehensible, I say he did a bang up job. I still preferred the second lead but that’s because I’m a sucker for guys with good hearts who know how to stand up for themselves. I’m waiting for Gu Family Book to finish running before watching. But from the recaps and how well the story is turning out, I’d say, he’s earning his stripes. I haven’t seen K2H or My GF is a Gumiho, but apparently he did good work in both.
Seungri Yes he also hosted game shows which can be viewed on utube. He is very well rounded but he is no JJ, Chunie or Junsu. ok I am very biased.

Haha I really preferred the second lead too for the same reasons as you, and was actually rooting for him to get the girl, but in k-drama land we know it won’t happen. I have a bad habit of not finishing my k-dramas; usually i lose interest halfway through, but this one i watched from start to finish. It was good, i thought the shrewd matriarch nearly stole the show from the lead characters.

I think the issue for me with Kdramas is that they can easily fall into the same trap as American TV fare. Everyone copies off the first success, then there is an abundance of mediocrity. The only saving grace is like, with Spanish Telenovelas, they have a beginning and an end, they don’t go on forever. And yes, the actress playing the grandmother is one of my favorite Kdrama actors. I’ve been seeing her since my first round of dramas years ago. She simply is one of the best.
I am glad they are being recognized still would like to see them on a show in Korea…

I’ve seen both of them in all their acting projects and while I can’t say they’re bad , I really wouldn’t call them good enough to be considered successful in acting .
I’m not surprised. Yoochun’s growth as an actor has been steady from the very beginning even back in the old Banjun drama days. A good script and good direction is all Chunnie needs. From there on in, it’s a PYC performance that everyone can enjoy.
Seungi is an OK actor. He has the knack of landing really really interesting dramas. However he’s always acting the roles of “happy-go-lucky” person and even with that type-cast role he’s still not able to “wear” his role like a glove to me. I can always tell that he’s “acting”. Even in his present drama, Gu’s family book, his “rascal” acts are not very convincing to me. However his “dad” in that drama is a total scene stealer. The dad is totally hot and extremely convincing in his role. Wonder why he hasn’t done a lot of drama, that guy.
Park Yoochun is a genius! he can act different roles as an actor. He’s a singer, rapper, & composer too. So talented! OMG!
3 years after leaving SM, look how far he is now. The best idol turn actor with loads of awards on his name. Proud of you Chunnie. Eat that SM. I can imagine SM rips his hair out of frustation to see our boys succeses.

We can tell by who won the awards more. I am not saying popularity award. It is Acting award. Yoo Chun in much better than LSG.
And, I think JJ is much much better than Jung Yong Hwa who not even win the newcomer award like JJ.

Both LSG & PYC I know them for the 1st time without knowing they are an idol & I respect their talents so much but yeah PYC wins stealing my heart of course..hehe..But I admit both really clever to choose a good drama which are most of their dramas are quite success & masterpieces..If it’s me, of course I will vote for our yoochun to be 1st coz we can see how many awards he got already & I believe even if he is not an idol, his popularity is still huge because of his talents & personality + bonus with his cutesome looks 😀
