JYJ’s Junsu rises to the top of the charts after releasing the new ballad ’11 o’clock’.
Since male idol singers don’t tend to do well in charts, especially not with a standard ballad, the success also raises expectations ahead of the release of the official second album on the 15th.
On midday of the 2nd, Junsu released ’11 o’clock’ and is currently in 5th place in Melon and Bugs. The progress is especially surprising in the wake of a hip hop craze with Dynamic Duo at its head.
The company was also taken by surprise. Though they had agreed to go with a regular ballad in order to showcase Junsu’s vocal abilities, they hadn’t expected it to be a hit in the charts. It is not part of a soundtrack, and what’s more, it’s a ballad, which seems to have disappeared entirely from the ranks.
The expectations are high for the official second album slated for release on the 15th. Unlike the solo first album ‘Tarantallegra,’ which didn’t do well with the public, this album has the benefit of public awareness. The genre itself is a fresh contrast to the popular hip hop, which is currently sweeping the charts, and will provide a wider accessibility to the public as well as fans. Added to the fact that there have been recent cases where songs do well in charts even without promotional appearances, it’s a bigger green light for Junsu, who is set to go off on tour in Asia with the release of the album.
An associate of the company remarked, “We focused on increasing popularity for this album, so the song doing well in the charts makes the atmosphere here very encouraging.”
’11 o’clock’ is a song that deals with the grieving process the day after a break-up, and targets mass appeal. The piano accompaniment evokes a dramatic mood that matches the emotional vocals as the theme follows the person through spring-summer-fall-winter.
Recorded all on one go, the song has acoustic instruments at its basis. Junsu previously created a stir when he released a special clip where he records the song live, entirely without accompaniment.
Huh? Tarantallegra didn’t do well with the public? Really?
no, it didnt go well. it means junsu didnt get the chance to share it with the public since he didnt have freedom to do promotions on tv broadcast. he sells well, but he is more well known by buyers online, not public. but even though he’s only known online, he still manages to sell well. Gaon did stated that Junsu is the highest selling solo artist in the history of gaon.
selling well, and being popular in the internet is different than being popular with the public. he will be able to sell even more if he can.
ahhh sorry. forgot to say ‘i think’ since those are purely guesses. might be wrong.
You’re absolutely right about the Gaon chart 🙂 http://jyj3.net/2012/12/25/news-121225-junsu-one-of-enewsworlds-top-5-male-solo-artists-of-2012/
I saw TVXQ’s Catch me on youtube, had over 18 000 000 views. 18 million Views (maybe more, this is the number so far from a post of the MV 6 months ago). Tarantallegra just reached 6 million. Difference is Tarantallegra had no TV exposure (just reports but not in the scene exposure) while Catch me had insane number of promotions, which resulted in the massive views. This is just terrifying. How can we raise the views for 11AM , do you know that the views get counted for appearance legitimacy? It’s not something music shows can hide.
For example, ( every show has it’s own standards, but they all expose it to the public, so they can’t over walk it,) a music performance show, for example, would place 50% on digital Ranking , 30% on Physical Ranking , 20% on View Ranking
50%+30%+20%= 100% , 80% doesn’t count , it has to be 100% meaning has to cover all Ranking fields not Just Physical Ranking.
Digital is where MelOn plays a serious role, and Loen’s youtube channel view, plays for the Viewing Ranking.
For Junsu to appear on a number of those music shows, he needs Digital, Physical and View Rankings (because a number of shows require that)
So please spread the word and get whoever you can to view the MV on Youtube to Loean’s channel ( watch?v=8cuorSMOvDQ )
Rues, are rules. Also keep an eye for MelOn, because it provides Digital for Junsu. Like watching the MV on Melon (will push him Up in rank) , and the future showcase stream on July 15th too, watching that on MelOn will also help
Please everyone, help with raising the views, so he can get onto the ranking charts.
Open several youtube pages, re-load each page when the song ends, don’t place it on, self-re-play, Youtube ignores it. Re-Load the page instead. And keep one of the windows for MelOn to play the Music Video as well, and also re-load the page when MV is done (just to be safe it counts)
If we all do this, we might be able to cover all Ranking requirements this year. So come on, lets do this.
@ Kalus:
Thank you for your analysis and suggestion. It’s ABSOLUTELY UNFAIR that HoMin has unlimited promotions and can pursue their entertainment endeavors so freely while JYJ suffer so much. I enjoy reading detailed analysis on JYJ3, and I will act upon your suggestions. I will do my part in helping to increase Junsu’s 11 AM MV views.
@ ee3451 “I will do my part in helping to increase Junsu’s 11 AM MV views”
Yes, This is the spirit. More fans like this. Opening 7 to 10 YT pages, (and one for MelOn) to play 11 AM MV , then Re-Load Page, will boost the View numbers. MelOn will count the MV as stream and take it to digital, and the Views on Loen will go to the music ranking charts as well. We always cover the Physical charts, but this time we can cover other Ranks too.
So let’s keep Our energy and zeal Up Up Up and get those Ranks Up Up Up.
Zeal People , Energy and Zeal. Especially we Fans are the ones that control these Ranking charts. Every one of us COUNT.
Every Fan Counts.
Thank you @ ee3451
@ Kalus
Could you please provide the MelOn website and any other websites you would like us to help increase the views? Thanks. My suggestion is perhaps ask JYJ3 admins to upload a page that lists directions on how to increase views (similar to the “Vote for Jaejoong and Junsu in the Seoul International Drama Awards 2013” article). We’re stronger in numbers, Team JYJ Fans!!
Here you go @ ee3451 , I hope this helps. Read the discription, it contains 2 valuable MelOn links as well as the Youtube Loen link:

@ Kalus
Thanks! Because our exchange of messages is in the middle of a forum, most readers might not be aware of or read about the need to contribute to the number of views. We should brainstorm on how to promote this. Thanks.
What do they mean by ” Unlike the solo first album ‘Tarantallegra,’ which didn’t do well with the public”? Did the public notnlike that song?
It did well with this member of the public! Lol! Could they possibly be alluding to the ban on Junsu and our guys?
It means “Tarantallegra” not doing well in digital chart.
in korea =>digital chart=public awareness, physical chart=strong fandom
Digital sales = Public
bad digital sales = public recognition
Is Kpopstarz writing a statement of fact or a statement of opinion?
Although we support Junsu’s second album, that doesn’t mean we bash his first album to elevate his second album. Oddly written article in my opinion.
Is it just me or is this article kind of confusing….???
Confusing! I am questioning the author’s credibility right now. The author needs to do some homework, and I am saying this without being a JYJ-biased fan.
Yes it is confusing, and poorly written plus, I find it hard to believe Tarantellegra, did not do well, it took him on a successful world tour!
I wondered if there is a way to reach out to the article’s author and “correct” his or her “incorrect” facts. Does JYJ3 do that?
Excuse Me!!! Tarantallegra took Junsu around the world where fans awaited him; I doubt that would have been possible if the album had not ‘done well’! This writer must have been under a rock during that time.
I think what the author is trying to say is tarantallegra is not doing well bcoz general public in korea doesnt like it…this ballad prob does well and appeals more to general public…dbsk in general has never rank high in digital charts…but i saw yesterday junsu rank in melon dropped to 17th rank…i hope he would rank higher that tarantallegra in digital charts
I am still confused and find it hard to believe this statement: “Unlike the solo first album ‘Tarantallegra,’ which didn’t do well with the public,” I thought this album die extremely well. Also, wasn’t he the most successful solo artist last year? His tour was extremely successful to. So this statement is very confusing!!!
Also, can someone explain to me what digital charts and physical charts is? So I can understand what the differences are.
The author Of That Article Needs To Do Some research! Tarantallegra was A massive Hit. Anyway, All The Best To junsu’S 2nd album ^^ July15 Come Sooner ♥
Yes it did sorry they got that impression numbers do not lie just because it was not over promoted like other albums out there does not mean it did not do well but we know he is still selling this album so ploy did not work and we will not take the bait we will just show you in the numbers.
WHAT? LOL Tarantallegra didn’t do well?? that’s the most complete Album I’ve ever seen!! not lacking a damn little thing!! and I’m sure I read many articles about Junsu being the best solo seller last year !
well I guess maybe the reporter meant that it was lacking promotion to public??! The Mv was banned in S.Korea right? and there was no way to promote the album on TV. maybe the situation has changed now that he collaborated with LOEN Entertainment that probably helped to get him into “PUBLIC”
maybe??!
either that or the reporter was REALLY under a rock as xiaspearl12 said !
i totally forgot that the mv was banned!
Stage performance, music shows, are not hiding , and can not hide, the requirements for appearance on their show.
Loen is opening the door for fans to get their idol on TV.
a number of Music Performance shows,(sinning on stage) depend Completely on Fans. Who views MV ? buy album ? Streams music on sites that count to the ranking charts ? its fans.
Those stage, performing music shows, make the requirements on display for public. They make clear the rules.
Junsu had no chance for digital last year, because the doors were locally closed when he debut as solo. Only physical was possible. But this year is different, let’s not give up now.
C-jes’s YT Views don’t count into rank for Music shows. But Loen’s YT Does. And MelOn supports Junsu’s digital as well.
Fans wake up, our chance is right in front of our eyes. Are we asleep ? I don’t think any of the years that passed , has ever come with these, fate changing, chances before.
View is in our hands, so lets increase the views on LoenYT, spread the word.
accountable Views and digital, changes the game people.
@kalus
Thanks for your enthusiasm! I’m all ready to do what i can to help. I found instructions on how to register at Melon, and then rate, like and stream songs there, from jyjsoul.com. This was previously shared by JYJ3 when Jaejoong released his solo mini, but I wasn’t able to find it, so i guess it’s ok if i post the link here http://jyjsoul.com/post/40558549347/tutorial-how-to-register-at-melon-and-rate-like-and
I hope fans will help, no amount of effort is too small!
Ok i’ve registered, but i can’t seem to stream. Dunno what’s the problem though….
Download MelOn Player Setup (it worked with me, I couldn’t stream at first either, but this player works fine with me, give it a try)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/iq77z3cdltr7ypr/Melon4SetupV5.exe
the link came from here http://vimeo.com/69735703
I hope this helps.
Thanks @kalus! I managed to download the Melon Player, but it seems they can only play 1min of the song. I don’t think you need to stream the entire song for it to count right?
Oops sorry, i meant “i THINK you need to stream the entire song…” I’m now playing the MV from Melon, at least that’s the full song.
@ OnlyJYJ
Your, welcome, and your right.
Streaming means to play the “sample” of the Song , and it counts as long as you don’t mute or pause the sample once you hit play. (it counts as a point if you stream correctly, if it gets muted, or paused it wont count).
Yes, playing the MV on MelOn helps push Junsu upwards. All cyber activity on Melon is tracked to the charts. (Naver, synarra, ect also ) including MV view.
lol now I’m opps, (I read your correction late)
No, you don’t need to stream the entire song. It’s just a sample but its important because it give points. If 10 fans stream the sample, the Song earns 10 points. See how valuable that is ?
@kalus
Thanks for your quick reply! I’ve heard people say that streaming the 1 min version doesn’t count though…but we do what we can 🙂
I think that’s Mnet that doesn’t count the stream, unless you have a korean pass.
MelOn counts the like and rate, so it’s logical they count the stream as well.
Better safe than sorry, streaming it once wont hurt.
Hello?? This is no “standard” or “regular” ballad. Try getting any other idol to do an acapella and film an mv live in one-take.
Oh YEAH they Could’t bear the awesomeness Of Tarantallegra and its MV xD
urgh. they are so missing out. pitypity.
i think they meant the public in korea. i heard it is a lot different there than the international forum and randoms. success in korea requires heavy promotion and awareness which junsu clearly didn’t have. so yeah. hopefully that will change but i dont think junsu gives a damn.
This song breaks my heart. I could only listen to it once. It’s about a man yearning for his sweetheart who has gone away. Beautiful song, but if I listen to it again, I know I’m going to get depressed!
Can someone explain to me what digital charts and physical charts are? So I can understand what the differences are.
Digital is like Streaming, mp3 download, watching an MV, digital sales (you buy a song and it arrive to your Computer desktop, not something felt in your hands like a CD or DVD, this is digital sale ), things that are cyber, are called digital. Korean sites like MelOn Count your cyber behavior and upon how many people stream the song, buy the mp3, view, ect , they give the idol a Rank in the chart. If the rank is good, the idol is included in the chart. if the rank is low, the idol is dropped from the chart.
Specific TV shows, depend on fans behavior only. this means Charts. (Fans control the charts because it’s them who buy, stream and view the songs)
The Physical CD album you buy (you buy online and it gets delivered to your home, and you feel it in your hands) buying it from sites that count your purchase behavior, like Goan, Hanteo , also count how many physical CD’s got purchased and Rank the idol according to number of demand. if the Rank is large, then the idol gets into the charts.
Tarantallegra charted at Rank 1 in physical charts. ( Means success)
But Tarantallegra did not Rank in the digital charts , So shows that require both charts , did not invite him to perform on TV.
Variety shows, Do not require Ranking Charts, So JYJ is always banned because of an excuse the VShows invent. But with Stage performing Music shows, That DO require Ranking charts , Junsu can appear on one of those shows if he ranks on Both charts and not just one . (Because these kind of shows don’t have a choice, if they see him Rank 1 on both digital and physical and see he Ranks high in YT View (must be from LOEN and not C-jes) then they have to have him on the show, they can NOT control ranks, FANS are the ones who control the ranks, so these shows have to invite him.
I-fans can help Junsu Rank in digital charts, by viewing the MV on both LOEN’s YT channel, and from MelOn.
Also rate, and stream the song , make sure to watch the live stream on MelOn of Junsu’s showcase. The views will count to the charts as well.
i-fans can do a great deal of help in allowing Junsu to be invited on shows, controlled, by Ranking charts. Vote for him, View his MV, buy, rate , stream.
MelOn , LOEN , Naver , Bugs! ect are sites that count to the digital charts
Gao , Hanteo, Hottracks , ect Count the Physical charts.
Junsu needs to Rank 1 on both , AND rank high in the VIEWS to secure TV appearance.
Hope this link helps. http://vimeo.com/69735703
Make more than one account on MelOn, and open several youtube pages for the MV ( /watch?v=8cuorSMOvDQ ), and one for viewing the MV on MelOn also, Re-load pages every time the MV ends.
hopefully this will increase views and help push Junsu up in front in the charts.
http://www.melon.com/cds/search/web/searchtotalmain_list.htm?menu_id=total&bg_type=headerTop&ipath=&srchSec=&srchSecId=&query=11%BD%C3+%B1%D7+%C0%FB%B4%E7%C7%D4
I hope this answered your question, and not confused you more, Flower.
@Kalus thank you so much for answering my question! I have opened serveral YT tabs on Leon and will reload them when the mv stops contineously and I will also try to register at Melon. I also, have preordered the cd and this counts toward physical charts.
Leon YT viewing of mv = viewing charts ranking
Melon viewing of mv/showcase= digital charts ranking
Purchasing the cd=physical chart ranking
Do I have the correct understanding?
Yes, that’s what I do. Everything is correct except there is nothing called viewing chart.
but yes, Viewing is ranked but by Music shows, that’s why the views count.
It’s a support for the digital charts, since it’s a cyber activity like streaming, so yeah, its considered into the digital charts.
@Kalus thanks now I see thats why you said watching the mv on Leon YT and Melon will count for digital charts. Also, watching the showcase on Melon too. I missed that info when I first read it in your explanation above. Again thanks for your help!!!
We have to spread the word about watching the MV on Leon YT and Melon to help increase digital charts. We’re stronger in numbers!
Hi just wanted to give you a quick heads up and let you
know a few of the pictures aren’t loading correctly.
I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue.
I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.
