JYJ3’s Note:
Conscription, or mandatory military service or compulsory national service, is legislated in South Korea, with military service stated as one of the Four Constitutional Duties (along with taxes, education, and labor) for all citizens. The current Conscription Law, however, applies only to males. (Read more here)
Because JYJ will do their military service in the next years, we have decided to share the following news.
“Ministry of Defense announces decision to abolish celebrity recruit unit + to issue out punishment to 8 celebrity soldiers”
After completing their investigation into the issues raised regarding celebrity recruits in the military, the Ministry of Defense held a press conference to announced their decision.
The most pressing question on hand was whether the celebrity recruit department would be abolished as it had been in place for the past 16 years. The Ministry of Defense announced today that they will indeed abolish the system.
“After the investigation on the promotional department of the military, we have decided to abolish the ‘promotional support brigade’ [which the celebrity recruits are under],” said the spokesperson.
On why they decided to make this decision, the rep said, “The promotional support brigade was set up to promote the military and raise the morale of soldiers, but due to the unpleasant issues that have occurred, the military’s image has only been tarnished… It has also brought down the morale of other soldiers who have been diligently serving… As the purpose of the celebrity soldier branch is to promote the military, the public’s faith is important, but due to various problems, we have only lost the public’s faith.”
As for the punishment of celebrity soldiers they’ve found to have performed problematic acts, the Ministry of Defense revealed that 8 will be receiving punishment following the regulations laid out in their department. All 15 celebrity soldiers in the current ‘promotional support brigade’ will be reassigned to different units on August 1st.
For the 3 celebrity soldiers who have 3 months or less until their discharge, they will be reassigned to an active duty unit to carry out the same tasks that ordinary soldiers are asked to do.
The celebrity soldiers receiving punishment will be reassigned to a new unit after they’ve carried out their punishment.
The spokesperson said in conclusion, “We are sorry for causing concern to the citizens on the matters regarding celebrity soldiers. We fully realize the need to take responsibility for the insufficient management.”

Is it true The Boys will go to military next year ??!
ohhh noo~~my heart still unprepared..uhhukz T^T..
So what does that to do with them ???
Easier this way…less temptations to get into too much trouble.
I think Yoochun (with Asthma) will still serve in another capacity…
Don’t wanna think too much about the military yet…wanna enjoy JYJ as much as possible now.
Why does it happen ????
Why!!!! T_T
the celebrity soldiers thing was always a bad thing with netizens so I was hoping non of JYJ enlist like that …but I guess that out permanently now .
I wondered what will happen to JYJ popularity when they all go to the military. It’s not like other major records labels where they continuously produce new male groups and provide training programs.
Oh no….moment of truth is coming nearer…. Will junsu serve later since he is younger? They should not go at the same time…after all, they are successful as individual …if they overlap the military period…we can at least have one of them still active…
All bcoz of se7en and his massage parlour..lol…i really hope junsu would enlist as active duty…or even jaejoong..
The celebrity unit was unnecessary and ridiculous. That was just a show of favoritism. As if when war breaks out these celebrity won’t have to put their lives on the line for their country like any other male.
it may sound selfish, but i don’t want any of my bias face a war and worried me to death. just put them away from the front line then i’ll be fine
Then who should be placed at the front line? Someone else’s son, brother, husband or father? When it comes to life and death, all men are equally dear.
I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Agree.
yes
JYJ leave for military means hibernating from Kpop to me (yunho will leave next year too, meaning leaving changmin only to me Hiks..) or not? haish, this time will come after all… after 6 years (wow, was it that long that i follow these guys?), i don’t think i can handle it well later,
back to topic, this means no more special treatment for celebrity soldier right? wow, poor rain, and heechul who’s going to discharge soon..
anyway, i wonder if this affect the celebrity soldier who’s not in field (i dunno what’s that department called). JJ and chun definitely not going to be in the field with chun’s asthma and JJ’s knee injury. leaving junsu who has to bare with it.
good luck for them
Heechul’s in public service, not the celebrity unit. He won’t be affected, at least, not by much. Leeteuk will though. he’s in the celeb unit, performing in musicals.
The thing with Jaejoong’s knee injury, though, I’m personally a bit iffy about. Aren’t we talking about the one he got during Rising Sun? I’m sure it’s more than healed enough, it wasn’t a serious as Heechul’s injury. While I don’t doubt the reason that he fared badly during his physical tests was probably due to his unhealthy habits, I’d rather fans/CJeS don’t use the old knee injury as an excuse to shield him from active service. Besides, they have to take the physical tests a few times anyway to decide their level.
But remember the time when Jae fell off the roof while filming Jackal, from what I saw on the recording of the incident (it looked awful, my heart hurt for him), he landed on his legs before falling on his back so he may have re-injured it.
there was no insinuation at all that Jaejoong was going to try to avoid active service , and he took the examination more than once so his low score the first time was modified already .
I don’t understand why people ( especially fans ) are taking abut his health and an old knee injury and all like in would effect his service when the examination showed it wouldn’t .
even the notorious knetizns aren’t bringing up anything about this when they can’t stop bitching about yoochun’s asthma ( when he hasn’t even started his service yet ) so why are we ?
this is a general reply by the way …not meant for any of you
“he took the examination more than once so his low score the first time was modified already .”
Yeah, that’s why I mentioned “Besides, they have to take the physical tests a few times anyway to decide their level.” They would all have to take another physical before going to the military, so their levels could change again, depending on how they manage themselves.
And although you said it’s a general reply, I just want to clarify that I didn’t insinuate that Jaejoong was trying to avoid active service. I’m like you, I don’t understand how and old (and fully healed) knee injury would affect his service. That’s why I said “I’d rather fans/CJeS don’t use the old knee injury as an excuse to shield him from active service”. Because fans are the ones who brought it up, and while CJeS hasn’t mentioned it, they are his management and I’d rather CJeS not mention it at all in the future. I wasn’t iffy about Jaejoong himself, it’s the idea that his old injury would affect him that I was iffy about.
Again, not taking your comment personally, just clarifying some stuff.
Also, Rain has already been discharged, LOL “poor Rain”? He’s like that kid in class who spoiled it for everyone else, but get’s off scot-free. I do wonder if his reputation will recover from this though. I mean, Psy had to reenlist to appease people.
Rain isn’t even close as bad as se7en’s ” mistake” …but the hate he got was multiplied because of him dating their Goddess Kim tae hee =_= damn Dispatch ( people were on his case already for that embezzling thing back in 2010) …hopefully he can do good again .
just think assassin 2
gosh~!!! sooner or later..that day will come for sure..yes, better enjoy with the boys now before it’s coming..
wonder if the 3 of them will serve at the same time or not..
but one thing I hope is before they went to military service, I wish I can see 3 of them in front of my eyes..
tsk..I need to prepare a lot of Vitamin C for 2 years!
Gosh this news really makes my heart pain cause i know i will missing them a lots T.T
The first person that came to mind is se7en… luckily for rain he is already discharged. Aigoo… I remember an interview where a fan asked if any of the JYJ members would join the marine corps and they said no. I guess maybe they would have to do so now…
Yoochun’s not very healthy tho. I dont worry about Junsu and JJ but Yoochun… T.T
Not to worry! My dongsaeng has asthma but he survived the military trainings too! Think positive!
“I remember an interview where a fan asked if any of the JYJ members would join the marine corps and they said no. I guess maybe they would have to do so now.”
No, not exactly. JYJ will not be forced to join the Marine Corps. The Korea Armed Forces are composed of different divisions: Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. The Marine Corps is the toughest one of the bunch. Citizens choose which division they want to join in accordance to their score based on their fitness level, and I believe only the people with the top fitness level score are able to (or are required to?) join the Marine Corps. That means, Yoochun and Jaejoong probably don’t even quality for it. I believe Yoochun may go into public service, which is different than the celebrity division. Jaejoong may go into active service in the army division and Idk about Junsu.
its better that they got rid of celebrity recruits , i mean in what country besides s.korea do they grant favor to celebrities in the military , it was a stupid decision to have it in the first place
but the thought that jyj will have to leave soon, makes me soooooooooooo sad 😦
Never understood the whole celebrity soldier thing. Its the MILITARY… like someone said above there should be no favoritism.
Im not trying to be mean or anything but honestly, even British royalty serve with no special accommodations.
better serve in the military the battle way, not to beat the purpose with that celebrity unit. i’m getting ready with Jae (or YooSu) entering MS soon, in fact i want it to be over and done with and will anticipate the return with high hopes than now. this is how i count getting ready, beginning less 365 days from this writing .~ *sigh*
pretty sure yoochun will be going for public service
CJES already announced that a while ago..i just hope when the time he’s go he will be doing quietly like kang dong won
netizen’s backlash about yochun’s military is no joke..this is one of reason why he get so much hate and his acting ablity never was admitted by netizen..if he doing quietly i think the hate that he’s received will be go down a bit
for junsu i see he will go for active duty…for jaejoong i don’t know
Where do you heard Chunnie military backlash by netizen? Never hear about it…
You can read some comments on netizenbuzz in any article that talks about military. Netizens are always bringing Chun topics no matter what.
Yeah, what backlash? I haven’t heard about it either. Plus Chun is not the oldest idol in Korea who has yet to enter the army. And as far as I know he’s been acknowledged plenty for his acting abilities by both netizens and critics. So no worry there. Maybe you spend too much time with anti-Yoochun fans that’s have you think so.
Anti-Yoochun fans? Not really, @kimchi and @Aby referred to common netizens. It’s ALWAYS brought up even in articles that’s not about him (but related to military service). Yeah, he IS acknowledged for his acting, but at the same time his whole public service thing has also been talked about. Having asthma and yet still continuing to smoke etc. I don’t have a problem with him smoking, it’s his life and I do think it’s pretty hypocritical of netizens (esp the males) to talk about smoking when it’s so prevalent in their culture. It’s a double-edged sword really, with popularity.
meaning you guys know this through korean sites? cuz i never encounter any of these. i so wish i understand korean language.
anyways, i wish people can ease up on his issues.
Well Rain was in the news due to seeing his girlfriend when he was supposed to be on post… This is a good thing all men are equal in the eyes of God… I do believe our boys can serve where they want and flourish… JJ is a natural people person Chunnie is naturally active and our baby Sue is naturally a people person and is highly active.
Oh no! I am going to miss them for the next 2 years !! 😦
It is indeed a right decision, while other guys, lets say ‘simple mortal guys’ are doing their best and endure hardship, celebrities are treated in different way just because of their social status, that’s discrimination first of all, and also like article stated “It has also brought down the morale of other soldiers who have been diligently serving”, so the decision is INDEED RIGHT!!!
I’m sure many girlfriends do feel treated unfair when seeing how their boyfriends in army endure hardship while celebrities are enjoying life… IT’S FAIR ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!
Well if ever JYJ are going to go to the army, it will be better for them to go 6months apart. That way we wont have to miss all of them at once for 2years.
Well I never understand the celebrity recruit department thing , military is a military , I think they made the right decision .
Although we won’t be seeing our boys for 2 years , but will wait for them 🙂 🙂 ❤ ❤
I understand why a lot of celebrities want to delay enlistment as long as they can, but i feel isn’t it better to go in when they’re young and get it out of the way? Like Yoochun’s co-star from I Miss You, i think he only recently enlisted and he’s like in his early twenties. Then when he’s finally released from duty, he’ll still be young but with an added maturity which i think will only serve to be an advantage.
He’s 19 🙂 Agree with your opinion
plus it give him a good image with the public ( though he’s already on their good said )
yes but in JYJ case they where under a company’s rule (sm) so they cant do that if they wanted to at that time . and after that they needed to set up a ground for their careers before they can leave ( and live life a little like free individuals ) .
