YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk was seen meeting with C-JeS Entertainment’s CEO Baek Chang Joo somewhere in Seoul near the end of September. This meeting is attracting attention from not only fans but the entertainment industry as a whole, who suspect it might have greater implications than a casual meet-up between two friends.
Due to the recent merging and contracts between SM and Woollim Entertainment as well as Cube and iHQ, some speculated that perhaps this meeting between YG and C-JeS indicates that they’re in talks of striking a similar relationship with each other. As YG has the ever popular Big Bang,2NE1, Psy, and more, while C-JeS has JYJ as well as influential actors, the two companies would make a powerful team indeed if the speculations turn out to be true.
However, in relation to these theories and speculations, a representative commented, “It was just a simple get-together to share a meal… Please do not stretch the meaning so far. It was only a meeting to exchange greetings, nothing more or less.“
So it seems we’ll just have to keep our eyes out to see if anything actually comes about from this meeting!

With so many company merges going on at the moment, heads were turned with the CEOs of YG Entertainment and C-JeS Entertainment met up.
On October 8, it became known that Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment and Baek Chang Joo of C-JeS Entertainment met up in secret at the end of September.
Immediately, people began to question why the heads of two large companies in the entertainment industry would meet up, especially after the recent merges of SM C&C and Woollim Entertainment as well as the partnership between Cube Entertainment and iHQ.
Representatives from both sides stated that the two CEOs only gathered together for a simple meal. However, there is no way of knowing what kinds of conversations were passed around on the table.
YG Entertainment holds Psy, Big Bang, 2NE1, Lee Hi, and more, while C-JeS Entertainment has JYJ, Song Ji Hyo, Lee Jung Jae, Kang Hye Jung, and more.

Remember Jae’s next album will feature various artists, maybe 1 or more from YG? I am not raising my hopes higher than that. Jae met PSY and Seven together with Rain and others, nothing came out of that meeting.

Being on friendly terms with YG Entertainment is already a very big positive step whether or not there is any idea of working together. Remember that YG was one of the signers of the original letter banning JYJ from tv. If they become friendly with C-JeS, it is a really big deal.

In October of last year, the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Arts Industry (KFPCAI) stated in an official letter sent to all national mainstream and cable TV stations, “The broadcasting of JYJ will have a negative effect on the Korean Wave as well as the image of its cultural contents industry and the Korean nation behind the Korean Wave,” and that “it will lead to the regression of pop culture and the Korean Wave,” thus urging all recipients to ban the appearance of the group.
As I understand it, the heads of the top entertainment companies were KFPCAI.
As far as I remember it was SM and some subsidiary, nothing to do with the other companies.
@bloodymidnightsun it was SM & KFPCAI idea but other companies like JYP and YG also signed the letter. Basically the big 3 were agreed that JYJ rebellion to SM will bring negative effect to Hallyu wave and that’s why they should get ban from appearing on TV radio etc.

I have been wanting something like this to happen for a while, for a big company to either merge with C-jes or at least back up JYJ. However, I’m not gonna get my hopes up until it’s confirmed. If YG can at least support them, I’ll be happy with that.
If would be great if this meeting leads to serious talks.
A merger with a big company should be helpful to JYJ’s situation.

No worries 🙂 It’s not a big deal really that SM’s not there since they didn’t sign anyone from the previous 2 cycles anyway, I mean of course in the beginning it’s great for the show because the so-called Big 3 are all working together but *shrugs*
I do think that BoA gives good advice and especially for those youngsters wanting to be idols they’d be stupid not to take advantage of her experience but we’ve seen plenty of contestants who doesn’t quite fit the “KPop” mould, so I’m really looking forward to how YHY would benefit the show.

A merger or some kind of partnership is good only if it benefits JYJ and help stop the tv ban. Their contract terms shouldnt change…unless its better. JYJ should still be free agents wt a mgt agency that serves them. Dont want to see them going back to the situation they were trying to escape from. Baek has some good actors…maybe YG is interested.
got my eyes and ears peeled for good news of any kind. hoping for something that will shift things around and allow them freedom in korea again but then again, they don’t seem to need it much with how well they are doing in spite of that. the good thing is their korea fans sure could use some help to see them easier.

All this is premature but I’ll just put forth my speculations too because it’s fun lol. Maybe CJeS wouldn’t merge with YG (the main label) though. Like SM Ent and SM C&C, YG may be splitting the actor branch of the company under new management and that’s the one that will be joined with CJeS. So it’ll be like SM C&C – AM Entertainment (actors agency) instead of SM C&C – Woollim (music label).
Anyway did you guys know that when SM C&C merged with AM Entertainment (Jang Dong Gun’s agency), Jang Dong Gun actually became the biggest single shareholder of SM C&C? One of the reasons a lot of them joined was probably because of stock options, with the next biggest single shareholders being Kang Ho Dong, Shin Dong Yup, Lee Soo Geun, and Kim Byung Man.
I do wonder though, if a partnership does happen between YG – CJeS, what impact it’ll have on YG’s professional relationships with SM and if it’s worth it business-wise. For example their joint United Asia Management thing with JYP and others. It’s kind of funny though to think that Kang Hye Jung switched to YG to CjeS and now this happens (IF it happens).

Yeah, I know it was taken over by KT Music (subsidiary of KT Corp). But that acquisition happened late last year and doesn’t have anything to do with this. It did make the news, but I guess if things don’t directly affect their idols the i-fans simply forget about it. KT Music took over 100% stake in the company and mainly handles music distribution etc. JYJ has been using LOEN lately to distribute their music though so there’s nothing to worry about really.

This is making the news precisely because we know who is it that Baek Chang Joo met. The talks with Japanese companies also made news too. Plus, maybe the one making this public is CJeS, not YG. Why not worry about CJeS’ intentions? This could be leaked by some random insider for all we know, it just gives a certain weight because both sides admitted to going out for a meal. Seriously speaking though, there’s no advantage for YG if let’s say there is something afoot and it got leaked prematurely.

why my opinion is so different with others…better there is no merger happen between c-jes and YG…JYJ and YG’s artist have different genre…jyj like a pure one but YG like a ‘dirty” one..as seungri said that big bang and TVXQ (around 2007) like water and oil..anyway, i feel bad for woolim artist…however, is there any guarantee that JYJ can be on television?….even YG artist get banned from appear from tv for 2 years….conclusion, if the merger to help JYJ appear on TV, better forget it because JYJ can survive without the TV…i’ll hope JYJ will be directors in C-jes like kangta in sm.
I agree with you. I really don’t think JYJ would fit in YG. YG is mostly rap based. While Yuchun does rap, he also has this romantic, pure kind of feel that doesn’t fit with YG. And Junsu and Jaejoong have totally different styles.
What I do like about YG is that at least it seems that they treat their artists well and encourage them to develop their talents in different areas. They seem to be the best fit with C-JeS in that sense.
I also think that C-JeS does a great job in managing JYJ outside of the kpop area, but inside that area, they are in foreign territory.
If they did do anything cooperative, I can’t see a merger, but rather some kind of cooperative arrangement. I don’t think C-JeS is in the position to want to give up autonomy when they are doing so well by themselves.

Um, IF a merger will happen between YG and CJeS (and that’s a super big IF) why would you think that JYJ will have to conform to YG’s style? You guys probably forgot that JYJ hired CJeS to manage their activities, but they work their concepts/music themselves.
YG artists were never banned, much less for 2 years. If you’re talking about KBS’ Music Bank, well YG had a problem with the previous PD, but now that the PD changed YG artists have been appearing on Music Bank again. The thing that I like about YG is, even when they’re only doing a couple of music shows a week, they still make an effort to get their music out there with stuff like YG On Air (collaborating with Naver) which is what I thought CJeS should be doing with JYJ’s YouTube channel.
How can Woolim join hand with SM? I don’t want them to be corrupted as well. Since I adore Infinite, I don’t want them to be flock in together with people from that dirty company. ~sigh~

Quite a few actors also had their contracts sold to SM and one by one they are leaving when their contracts expire. Han Ji Min from Rooftop Prince was one of those who recently signed with someone else.
Not gonna get my hope ups on JYJ’s situation improvements. If any, the partnership would likely just about the management of YG’s actor/actress. With C-Jes being responsible to YG Ent as an agent, not directly switching all YG’s actress to C-Jes like what happened with Hye Jung. And that leaves JYJ out of the scenario. So, let’s wait until the next plot uncovered!
