everyday I’m waiting for airport pics of JJ leaving for Japan,
JJ when are starting your Japanese activities?
The old Jaejoong please come back…you’re too skinny now
OMG! JAEJOONG, you are so deep and so subtle!
Pictures 1, 6 and 8 – Day 1 of the WWW concert in Seol: that’s when Jaejoong, for the first time, displayed the butterfly tattoo, the huge Greek letter PSI and arrived as an encapsulated chrysalis. Only that I was so blind that I didn’t recognize his new tattoo as a butterfly, nor did I see the Greek setting or expect of him such subtle allusion to Greek mythology.
I was struggling to comprehend whether the large letter painted on his abdomen was used as the symbol of Zeus (the Greek God of all gods and men and master of the universe); or as the symbol of psyche in its meaning of mind, soul? or in reference to the myth of Psyche and Eros in which genuine love and perseverance triumph over the jealousy of a goddess?
Now all three: butterfly tattoo, Greek letter PSI painted on his abdomen and his arrival in a cocoon, click together and fall into place.
In Greek the word psyche also means a buttefly. The butterfly in Greek mythology represents the immortality of the soul. “There is nothing so striking and beautiful as the butterfly, bursting on brilliant wings from the tomb in which it has lain, after a dull, grovelling, caterpillar existence, to flutter in the blaze of day and feed on the most fragrant and delicate productions of the spring. Psyche, then, is the human soul, which is purified by sufferings and misfortunes, and is thus prepared for the enjoyment of true and pure happiness.” (From Bulfinch’s Mythology: The Age of Fable)
…and now I see that capsule from which Jaejoong emerged, as the chrysalis from which the butterfly burst out, freed from its prison.. and so is Jaejoong’s soul “purified by sufferings and misfortunes” and hopefuly, ”prepared for the enjoyment of true and pure happiness.”
The child of Psyche and Eros was named Pleasure. Is Kim Jaejoong that child?
