South Korean singer and actor Park Yoo-chun speaks during an “Open-talk” event of the 19th Busan International Film Festival on Oct. 3, 2014
The popular South Korean singer and actor, Park Yoo-chun, on Friday showed a strong desire for more productivity in his new-found acting career during the international film festival in the South Korean port city of Busan.
Park, a member of the boy band JYJ, debuted on the big screen with his role in the Korean thriller “Haemoo” released in August.
“I found great charm in films through Haemoo (Sea Fog) … I thank the film for letting me know which way to go,” he said during an “Open-talk” event co-hosted by the 19th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and an association of movie reporters in South Korea.
The 28-year old said people’s negative views on idol stars who pursue an acting career at the same time often makes him sad but that would not stop him from finding passion in acting.
“I want to shoot more films and do more TV dramas. I have no reason to reject them if they are good works.”
He said, however, he will focus on JYJ activities at least till the end of this year.
Proving his Asian-wide popularity as a member of the South Korean boy band, some 1,000 fans, including Japanese and Chinese, gathered at Haewundae beach to get a glimpse of their favorite star.
“Haemoo” tells the story of six sailors embroiled in an uncontrollable incident as they come to carry Chinese stowaways.”
Park played the role of the youngest of the six members, Dong-shik, who never loses his cool on the ship that turned into total chaos following the unexpected incident. He then falls in love with a Korean-Chinese woman who stows away on the ship to find the whereabouts of her elder brother in South Korea.
Park has become well known for his acting in the South Korean TV soap series “Sungkyunkwan Scandal,” “Rooftop Prince” and “Three Days.”
