With the Ichigo Ichie JYJ concert DVD FINALLY releasing, I thought I wanted to remember those memories again. 😊
Over this past year I have translated so many talk ment fancams from this tour, that I’m afraid i’ve gotten confused with what talk took place where. So I will be describing the tour concert in Osaka (Day 1) but a few talk sections might contrast with the other concert days, I apologise in advance. 😓
Certainly <In Heaven>
<In Heaven> is my favourite JYJ song, it may be because i’m biased since Jaejoong composed it. I like Jaejoong’s composition, they are simple and beautiful. I was very much looking forward to hearing this song live and the beautiful harmonisation during this part of the song,
[Jaejoong/Junsu] Kajima tteo najima
[Yoochun] Nae gyeothe isseojul suneun eobtni
[Jaejoong/Junsu] Geojitmal da geojitmal
[Jaejoong] Jeonhyeo deulijiga anha
[Junsu/Yoochun] Saranghae neol saranghae
[Jaejoong] Han madi boyeojul suneun eobtni
[Junsu/Yoochun] Saranghae neol saranghae
[Junsu] Tto dashi saranghae jugettni
And our JYJ boys didn’t disappoint us, actually I’m more sad, I would have loved to hear this song like ten times that day. Jaejoong once mentioned before (somewhere i’m not so sure of), that this song always holds a special place and they always put this song in their concert set list. The other two ballads they sang before <In Heaven>, <Let Me See> and <SO SO> were also very beautiful ballads, and I appreciated these two ballads from the Just Us album even more hearing it live. Once you hear JYJ live, hearing the studio version seems to be lacking something 😯.
I absolutely loved this stage outfit. From far JYJ was shining. It was fairly easy to spot them in the middle of the arena crowd and the dancers sitting from my seat in the stand section. In my brain i went, ‘thank you coordi[nator] oenni’ 😄.
Individual Stages, Individual Charms~
Jaejoong performed <Butterfly>, <Ultra Soul> by Japanese rock duo B’z and Japanese Drama ‘1 litre of tears’ OST song <Konayuki> (Trans: Powdery Snow) by remioromen.
I was blown away by Jaejoong. I was initially a Junsu fan who extended towards JYJ so you could say I am hugely biased towards Junsu. I did not know what to expect from Jaejoong and Yoochun’s solo stage, but in my opinion during Jaejoong’s solo stage I felt like I’m attending his solo concert. The thing I liked about these solo stages was that each member performed and showcased their charms like they wanted to do. But also their individual charms did not clash when they performed for JYJ songs, which is an important point in my opinion.
I am not a super fan of rock genre but <Butterfly> was a great performance. The whole crowd was hyped up, I enjoyed it very much as well. However, <Ultra Soul> was my favourite, such a fun song, which calls for interaction between the performer and the audience. Lastly, <Konayuki> is one of my favourite songs, I shed tears every single time I hear this song. I believe Jaejoong sang a different song in Tokyo, so I was quite taken a back as I heard the familiar initial tone and my brain went, “omygod, it’s konayuki!”. Jaejoong’s version was a bit different from the original but I liked it, it was beautiful.
Lastly I wanted to add how the best part of Jaejoong’s solo stage was how obviously happy he looked while enjoying himself.
Yoochun preformed <30 years>, <I LOVE YOU> and Masaharu Fukuyama’s <Sai Ai> (Trans: Beloved).Yoochun stage was simply very modest and humble contrasting to Jaejoong’s strong performance.
Honestly I enjoyed <Sai Ai> the most. I had never heard this song before but after hearing Yoochun sing it, I went and searched it up. It is just soo beautiful. Really liked Yoochun choice of song. From the earlier time, JYJ has voiced out their look for Masaharu Fukuyama’s work.
And with that smile and quitely saying ‘thank you’ after ending <Sai Ai>, I can imagine all the Yoochun fans collapsing, I know my heart skipped a beat. Yoochun sounded and looked absolutely adorable! 😍
Junsu performed <Incredible>, <Story> by Ai and <Sora to Kimi to no aida> (Trans: Between the sky and you) by Nakajima Miyuki.
<Incredible> is a great song to get all hyped up and Japanese fans absolutely love this song. You know it’s Junsu’s solo stage when you hear him go “From here on it’s..” Fans “Junsuu timeee” WOW! After which Junsu added “I was waiting for this” (Lol XD).
For me, I loved the two Japanese songs he sang. <Story> was not new to me and I absolutely loved it before and still do. However, what took me by surprise was <Sora to kimi to no aida>, it was such a beautiful song and Junsu’s voice made the song such a treat to the ears. Later on when I was sharing this with one of my friends, she said that this song is very old and that she’s surprised that Junsu even knows this song. Nakajima Miyuki is another one of the Japanese singers/artists JYJ previously stated as one of their favourites. How I’d love to hear this live again.
For me as a fan from Japan, I appreciated JYJ singing cover of Japanese songs, and I love JYJ’s song choices, always introducing me to such good music.
Random stories
While in the JYJ concert, I was listening around to what other Japanese fans had to say about JYJ. The question I would hear the most was ‘who is your favourite member’ or ‘since when have you been a fan’.
It is a fact, that Jaejoong is the most popular. However, before entering the venue I overheard many fans saying how Yoochun was their favourite. One fan said that if it is about the singing ability then the favourite is Junsu or Jaejoong but for her just looks wise Yoochun was her favourite. And that cute thank you and smile at the end of <Sai Ai> convinced me why fans are captivated by Yoochun. But all in all, I was yet to hear anyone say that Junsu was their favourite.
Once i got seated, two male Korean fans entered and sat in the row infront of mine. One guy was wearing a bit fedora hat and the woman right behind him (who was two seats away from mine) overheard them speaking Korean and in broken english said to him, Please remove your hat’ (as it was obstructing her view), and that guy turned to look at his friend sitting beside him and seemed confused. So the woman repeated herself and that guy replied in perfect Japanese ‘yes I understand but I can’t take the hat off’ (due to some reason.. i didn’t understand his hesitation..). Then the woman said to the girl sitting beside her that they can speak Japanese. Then she went back and asked him, if he was a JYJ fan, and he said he was, So she asked whose fan, and he said he was Junsu’s fan. Many male fans these days~~~
My Favourite Time: Talk Time
It was 20 minutes of craziness. On the day I went though it was basically Jaechun bullying Junsu. Jaejoong started of with, ‘oh we should hear and see some of Junsu’s famous oyaji gags’ and I think after the Tokyo oyagi gag performance, Junsu seemed pretty reluctant. But he went on doing one after the other. I just realised how I never subbed the talk of this day. I am just going to take this opportunity and give a partial summarised translation while seeing the fancam 🙂 (here and here)
This stage was a special moving stage which i’ve been told was designed by a Japanese group’s member in order to be able to go nearer to the fans in the dome hall. Stage was right in front of the centre block stand 2F and 3F seats. Junsu said, “we came near to you, you can see us better now right,” and JYJ was pretty shocked to see fans in the 4F as well. Yoochun asked, “is that normal audience people (T/N: rather than staff) up there on the 4th floor?”
Then they proceeded on to check the age statistics of the audience. The voices of the teens was pretty low. Twenties was stronger. Thirties was a bit weaker. And Junsu said “is this because of lack of number of lack of power.” From the forties, Jaejoong said, “this voice has no relation with the age.” For fifties, Jaejoong said, “show us your voice that does not loose to the thirties or forties’ and after the voice JYJ said, “ah you lost”. Then Junsu caught a someone (i think it was a male fan) who was in his teens and Junsu said to him, “are you in your fifties? It’s (obvious) that he is in his teens but he went like yayyy (N: during the call for fifties).” Jaejoong said, “I don’t think it is related to age, but the reaction was slow. So one more time after 1 2 3.” and after that chant from male fans only, Yoochun said “ah scary~ I got shocked.”
Jaejoong said, “since this is Osaka. In Osaka after a really long time let’s see Junsu good-for-nothing (/trivial) oyaji gag.” Junsu replied back with such hilarity! I will write down the complete translation of this conversation below.
JS: If you ask me to do it, I’ll do it but.. personally, (doing it) while being told by Jaejoong (that it’s) boring or good-for-nothing.
I also have my oyaji gag’s pride so.
JJ: you are proud of it? (laughs)
JS: I am proud of it! Ya! (screaming) I’m doing it with feelings of yūtai ri datsu!
(T/N: long ago in a Japanese show Junsu said his favourite Japanese words is yūtai ri datsu [幽体離脱] which means ‘out of body experience’. He just threw this word here randomly)
JS: so just once more, nicely
YC: (To Jaejoong) do Junsu’s introduction one more time
JS: one more time.JJ: Ju
JS: (cutting Jaejoong) Since quite a long time ago I have invented this. Do you understand?
JJ: yes yes, I understood.
JS: I worked pretty hard (on it) so
JJ: then, oh, um
JS: (cutting Jaejoong again) quite a bit, 8 years ago, I practiced it more than singing.
JJ: From Tsutomu san right? you learned from him.
(N: Sekine Tsutomu is a Japanese comedian and was a big thsk fan and taught them many Japanese jokes and gags)
JS: While the members were practicing for the performance or during singing, I was reading the book on Oyaji gags.
JJ: that happened. the oyaji gag book.
JS: you saw that right. I was asked (T/N: to do oyaji gag) so much in the past!
JJ: [Please do] Just one oyaji gag, that Junsu has the most pride in and is most interesting.JS: Tamago no kimi wa suki ke do, Kimi mo suki~
(Trans: I like the yolk (kimi) of egg but i Like you (kimi) as well)
Junsu even introduced his new oyaji gag that he made at that time on stage, “Osaka is OO Sakka” (T/N: サッカー, Sakka means Soccer) and no one laughed (I laughed though lol XP). Junsu said, the good ideas that he came up with when he was young won’t come to him now. Jaejoong replied back saying the Junsu’s pureness is gone. And Junsu said since he was born he was pure (T/N: pure is junsui in Japanese), so they named him Junsu, which is like the word junsui (pure).
While looking back at the fancams I can’t help but think how much cuter Junsu is when his hyungs are beside him. Sorry my bias mode was on 😅.
<Lion Heart> was so nice. It has such memories for Japanese fans~
After the performing <Lion Heart>, Jaejoong passed by near me in a tram and boy oh boy did that guy not look his age! He was laughing and smiling like a little boy with that ball gun. He was very handsome in person, that’s for sure! ^^
Dirty Talk (Ment Before the last song, Wake Me Tonight)
I subbed this whole ment so i’m not gonna go into much of the details, just wanted to add that I laughed so hard during this time and like JYJ said (I believe it was Junsu, or could be Jaejoong so I’ll just say JYJ) after this talk even though the next song is the last song, it doesn’t seem that we’ll be going forward with feelings of sadness since everyone is so hyped up. This was right, the whole concert venue was hyped up and I, myself had a big stupid grin stuck on my face XD.
Poor Jaejoong, totally down to his knees 😂😂. Jaejoong entertained us so much on this day.
Emotional Ride with <Begin>
I had always dreamed to be able to see this view (above👆) in person and to hear them harmonising 😭. And might I add, I preferred these grey ichigo ichie tshirts over the black one. Junsu was absolutely cute wearing it, made me wanna get my hands on one as well 😅. Jaejoong said there are songs they can’t sing because of legal issues and that they can sing it here but they can’t record that in a dvd and sell it. It is legally not allowed for them, which he talked like he, himself didn’t understand the details.
Thanks for reading! ^^
