EXID Hani and JYJ Junsu became Korean Celebrity world’s first official couple in 2016. Hani plans to be ‘Gomushin*’ (곰신/고무신: rubber shoes, means for a woman waiting for her enlisted lover) in 2016, and is seen to attract attention again.
(*T/N: explanation of Gomushin is from the article)
[JYJ3 note: The word ‘곰신/Gomsin’ refers to girls who are waiting for their conscripted boyfriends. It is taken from a story called “Putting on Gomusin(고무신=rubber shoes) Backward” where a wife cheats on her husband who’s been away in the army during the Korean War, which generated the same-name slang term ‘wearing rubber shoes backwards’.]
Hani and Junsu’s secret date was informed through Dispatch’s report. It said that Hani went and had a secret date in Junsu’s car.
In the middle of this, Junsu is planned to enlist in military in 2016. Already last year March Jaejoong, Yoochun in August, enlisted into the military and JYJ’s activities are at a standstill situation. Junsu was born on 1st January 1987, and till now it is revealed that he plans to enlist in the military in 2016.
If Junsu’s enlistment into the army takes place in the first half of (2016), Hani will become a Gomushin too early. Within confirming her relationship with Junsu, Hani expressed her feelings of love and gratitudes towards her lover. It was a bit different from the general form of relationship confirmation by the celebrities and was an impression of consideration (for others). Junsu’s side was careful as to not divulge any tangible details but Hani open-heartedly expressed her feelings for lover Junsu.
Hani’s side confirmed the relationship by, “With the hit of ‘Up & down’ last year, all of a sudden there was a big change in situation and Hani was inexperienced in many parts as to how to deal with it but, (Junsu) at that time, who had correct judgement more than anyone else, became a person of strength (to her) to be able to focus on work furthermore, naturally they developed (to become) lovers.”
It is said that Hani and Junsu developed their relationship since last year June. Junsu, who was starring at that time in musical ‘Death note’, invited Hani and she went to see together with her mother. According to representatives, Junsu and Hani developed their relationship genuinely from that time on.

[NEWS] EXID Hani’s side also confirms her relationship with JYJ’s Junsu via Allkpop
It’s a very sweet and touching story. I truly hope their relationship can last through any public backlash they might receive, as well as through his military term. Junsu deserves to be happy and have all the happiness in his life that any of us are “blessed” with. I, as a true fan, will be rooting for him from afar. I congratulate Junsu on his new-found love and wish him well. Also, side note, this ‘tv report’ should have all of their facts correct before reporting anything; Junsu was born on December 15, 1986; his birthday was only registered on January 1, 1987 for school reasons. Of course his fans know this, and of course this is not in any way a dig at jyj3 admins for they are simply translating so us fans can actually read it; I’m just, saying in regards to the actual reporter, that facts are important when reporting. Anyway, again, congratulations to Junsu and Hani. May their relationship grow and bloom and last long. Happy New Year everyone!
They only stating when his official birthday to show when he have to go to the military. Why his family registered him later is nobody business.
Ah. I see. It’s a bit funny that, that is the only thing out of my comment that you acknowledge. That was just one piece. My comment was mainly to congratulate him on his relationship. Also, I never stated that the reason for the registry is anyone’s business -(*your grammar is a little off by the way) – I only reiterated what was stated by Junsu himself and his mother PUBLICALLY as the reason why. If the military only pays attention to registered birthdate, then yes it would make sense to base his service off that date. I was not in any way being disrespectful. I was merely commenting on something that I see as fact-based information. Thank you for that piece of information. As I am not a Korean civilian, nor do I know all of their customs, it is logical that I would not be aware of such a thing. So I thank you for informing me of that.
I am sorry that I sounded rude. English is not my language.
Oh no you didn’t seem rude. I was just not aware of such a thing. Don’t worry about your English. In all honestly it’s a lot better than a good percentage of people who do speak it as a first language. I apologize for pointing it out; I’m an English major in college and I help edit stories (some fanfictions) so it is almost like an auto-reflex for me to point things out. I’m sorry about that.
*honesty. I just messed up too ha-ha.
Ha-ha. My auto-correct messed up my spelling on another word as well. I meant publicly, not publically. Wow; I’m all messy today.
I may be wrong about this, rilanna please correct me if so, i thought Junsu’s birthday was mentioned because in Korea you have to enlist before you are 30, and for official matters Junsu birthdate is 01/01/1986. So i dont think the reporter has any faults in this matter.. …>_<…
Hi. I didn’t mean to fault the reporter if Junsu’s birthdate was only mentioned for military service reasons. I only made a comment on it because of the wording “Junsu was BORN on January 1, 1987.” I was merely commenting that the information was not correct. If the reporter was only touching on his birthdate for official reasons, then it would make sense to state his registered birthday, and in that case I respectfully stand corrected. I don’t know about when they have to acknowledge their required service age wise, but I do know as far as serving, they have until they are 35. They have to serve between the ages of 18 & 35 in Korea.
You are correct in that the maximum age to enlist is 35 years old. But, seeing as there’s a stigma against idols, singers, celebrities, etc., it looks very bad if Junsu –since he is someone famous– enlist that late. It is only recent that the age limit got extended; before it was 31 years old the latest.
On topic of Junsu’s birthday, it’s accurate that he is born on December 15, 1986. The reason why Junsu’s mom register Junsu( & Junho/Mooyoung)’s birthday on January 1, 1987 is –I believe, so once stated in the past by Junsu’s mom– that she didn’t want him being one of the youngest in his class (in school). With how the Korean school year starts in March; technically Jaejoong, Yuchun, and Junsu would be in the same school year class, then.
Also, the age difference between Jaejoong and Junsu are almost a year apart; yet they both would said to be 32 years old (in Korean years) right now –and Junsu might even be considered older than Jaejoong–. Furthermore, Junsu’s mom seems to have the interests of her sons, in mind: with how children’s young minds develop in stages from birth to 5 years old, a 4-year old trying to learn at a kindergarten level might be too strenuous. Why not give her sons an extra year; by registering their birthdate 2 weeks later..
Finally, on the subject of the reporter not doing his/her research, I would say: pay no mind to it. In the Korean country’s eyes, Junsu was born on January 1, 1987 because he was registered to be. Thus why the year 2016 seems the expected year Junsu would enlist –i.e. how 2015 of the year Jaejoong and Yuchun were expected to be called to report to serve their duty–. News sites and even on official sites, Junsu’s birthday is listed as January 1, 1987.
Honestly, it’s the fans from the past who are the ones that learnt it was December 15, 1986; on the basis that they delved deeper into Junsu’s background.
always learning new things in JYJ3 I never thought maximum age for enlistement is 35. Thank You Rilanna, xiahjunjjyu and Stephei Wats for your informative comments
I am a little confused only about one thing. The interview or statement I read from his mom was not that she registered his birthday on 1/1/87 to avoid him being the youngest in his class; but to actually avoid him being the eldest, as he would have turned two based on Korean age on 1/1/87 and been older than everyone else who was born after that date. So it was actually to avoid him being teased and bullied by his classmates for being the eldest. At least that is what I read.
Also I really am interested because I have learned differently. Where did you get the 32 in Korean age from? They are all 30 based on Korean age, and 29 based on birth/biological age. I’m a little confused.
Junsu is born on 15/12/86. In Korea everyone is one year old when they are born. So they start counting from the number 1. And on 1st January, everyone turns one year older. So 2 weeks later on 01/01/87 Junsu would have turned 2. Jaejoong born on 26/01/86 would have turned 2 as well on 01/01/87. So Jaejoong and Junsu would have become classmates. When in actuality Junsu is a year younger. He would have to start school an year earlier. Which his mom thought might be too much for the kim twins. If Junsu is registered as being born on 01/01/87 he would be 1 year old. And become 2 on 01/01/88. I hope this helps clear your confusion.. I personally have great interest in this korean age thing. Got a Korean to explain it to me. Though i still think this method of counting age is a bit unfair.. Especially if you are applying to things like starting school age and legal age.
So Junsu is born on 15/12/86, that makes him 29 in normal age, but Korea starts from the number 1, so he is 30 years old and on 01/01 he turned an year older. So he becomes 31 years old. Hmm.. 32 is wrong i think.. No rilanna? Sorry if i’m counting the age wrong. (~_~;)
Ah no that’s not what I meant by the question. I know how the Korean age system works. I just didn’t understand how she got them being 32 in Korean age this year when they will all be turning 31 in Korean age. Perhaps I just got confused in reading the explanation. Also, just like Junsu, Jaejoong’s birth date was also registered on a different day. In his case earlier. He was born on February 4, 1986, but when the Kims adopted him, they registered his birth date as January 26, 1986 because of something having to do with the last name Kim and the numbers of his natural birth date being bad luck. At least that is what I’ve read a few times. Thank you for taking the time to explain that though. Yeah a Korean couple explained it to me too. It’s funny because in Junsu’s case (well any Korean’s actually) he would have turned two on January first, and then on his actual birthday he would have celebrated that second birthday. It’s only the first January first after your birth where you become two. So in Jaejoong’s case he was born 2/4/86 and was one; on 1/1/87 he would have turned two and then on 2/4/87 (or based on his registered birthday) 1/26/87 he would have celebrated being two. Then on 2/4/88 (1/26/88) he would celebrate being three. So Junsu would be the same age as him until his birthday came back around in December and then fallen back into being younger as soon as JJ turned three. It is a bit confusing but very fascinating.
oh well,, I give up on this Korean age.. 😐 so confusing..
I just commented, to clear up since, I am the one who translated and shared this article 🙂 cheers!
Congratulation Junsu & Hani. I’m so happy that one of my boys is finally found someone and publicly announce it. Just that it is the first day of 2016 and this is quite a bomb! Nonetheless, I wish for the best for you both and hope to see a wedding announcement later on…. in a few years to come. Good luck 😉
lets pray junsu found his other half let pray she wait for him and this last long
I saw one netizen’s comment for one of the news about this dating. In that comment, she says Hani is lucky because she is with Junsu. He is kind, funny, rich and handsome. But moreover than this, his fans ara mature and will be happy for him but if it is for Jaejoong, there will be more mess. Some of them also beg to Dispatch for not reveal anything about Jaejoong’s dating if there is one now or in the future because she isn’t ready for it.
I am happy for Junsu. He is a real gentlemen and a good person. Hani is really lucky. :)) Although I hope this will last long, I have doubts. However, I also want Jaejoong and Yuchun to find their true loves. If they are happy, I will be happy too. I will also support them even I have grandchildren. :)))
This. I think this would be messy if its jaejoong or yoochun
I really think the only ones who would be messy over Jaejoong or yoochun being with someone are people who intensity ship them with others…. their JYJ fans or single based fans aren’t going to be that butthurt .
sure there’s gonna be a few craziness with some but most aren’t .
I was really expecting the enlistment announcement to be soon. :o( Now that one of the articles says he is living with his manager I suspect it will be this spring. Hope that all goes well for them both. Cute couple.
The article reported that Junsu was living with his manager. Does anyone know if it indicates that he’s made arrangements for his apartment in preparation to enter MS? I believe there was a report that Jaejoong sold his cars and many other items before he entered MS, but I don’t recall if he sold his penthouse unit in the same building as Junsu. What do idols do with their expensive residence while at MS? Just curious. I know how to find their building and I’ve always wanted to walk “on the street where they live” when I visit Korea,
I’m almost certain Junsu has a new apartment (he’s posted pictures of it) and is no longer living in the same building as Jaejoong.
Well, finally. It’s amazing that the poor members are so afraid of telling their fans they date. Anyway, Junsu as usual takes the lead in things. Good for him.
I don’t think they are afraid per se. I think it’s more based on personality. Yoochun is very conservative and keeps to himself; so based on that, he would feel that it is no one’s business and like the rest of his private life, keep his relationship to himself. Jaejoong does have more of a tendency to be sensitive to his fans, but he is a very senstive and protective person, so he would be looking at it more as him peotecting his significant other from public (fan) lashing out and harassment. He wouldn’t want his partner to be hurt by being with him so he also would keep it to himself. I have a suspicion that Dispatch made a deal with them to wait till after his concert series was finished successfully before divulging the information; only because the agencies both confirmed it so quickly (it seemed like within minutes or a few hours). I think they knew the information was going to be disclosed and agreed to just confirm it. Junsu did say that he would want his fans blessing if it turned up he was dating and he also said he doesn’t worry about public criticism anymore. I think he only wanted the fans to be agreeable for Hani’s sake (protective thing) so she wasn’t attacked by his fans once it was made public. He was basically letting his fans know he does have someone and wants them to be supportive.
I’m happy for Junsu and really glad he’s in a relationship. I hope the fans can accept this with an open mind. Hani’s one lucky lady!!
All this talk about Junsu’s going to the MS is getting me sad but I hope he will have lots of army concerts like JJ.
I hope Junsu and Hani are very happy together but this article makes me cringe. This is a lot of pressure to put on her, a 23 year old, to wait 2 years for a man she has only known for a few short months. Of course if she wants to then that’s great. I will support them no matter what.
I am still in total shock. But it would appear that they were prepared for the “outing” of their relationship. In one photo, Junsu is looking directly at the camera. In others, he is distracted but not covered up and hiding. They are photographed together at the same location on at least two separate occasions, so they are not playing the game of leaving separately and meeting again… which I’m sure Junsu must have done before with others. Of course, I want Junsu to dating happily… I just wasn’t prepared. He could be my son, I’m thinking that younger fans would have a harder time.
I agree – I’m pretty sure they knew the news would come out and when. Statements were prepared and maybe they even negotiated which photos would be released.
