Despite winning the Popularity award as voted by Korean fans only, Kim Junsu was unable to take to the stage at the ’25th Seoul Music Awards’ to receive his award in person, and he has taken to his Instagram yesterday (January 14th) to reveal his thoughts.
He wrote, “My heart hurts. Although I’m fine regardless, but when I put myself in your shoes, I feel really mad that I’m unable to repay your devotion and love for me. My heart is really ripped apart by the inability to do anything. That’s another debt to add on… I’m sorry.”
Since leaving SM Entertainment, Kim Junsu has been severely restricted in his activities in Korea. Despite the passing of the ‘JYJ Law’ last year which was a proposed amendment to Korea’s broadcasting act that prevented third parties from blacklisting certain individuals or groups from appearing on television, JYJ’s situation has remained status quo.
The Popularity award was deteremined through paid voting by fans beforehand, and Kim Junsu was the overwhelming winner as he won with 46.7 percent of the total votes cast. But Kim Junsu wasn’t able to attend to receive his award in the end, with the organizers stating afterwards that it was due to their focus on major award categories, and leaving fans feeling bemused, unhappy, and hurt for the injustice.
