[NEWS] 160128 Mayor takes action for Kim Jun-su’s exclusion at ‘Seoul Music Awards’
The mayor of Seoul, Park Won-soon, gave an update on Wednesday about the recent incident at “The 25th Seoul Music Awards”.
Kpop group JYJ‘s Jun-su was excluded from the awards ceremony on Jan 14, despite the fact that he was voted the most popular celebrity on the event’s official website.
Fans were enraged when the program did not even mention the most popular celebrity award.
The incident went viral online, with many of Kim’s fans asking for a clarification.
Some even filed complaints to the mayor as the awards ceremony is financially supported by the city. Park had asked for a response from the officials of “The Seoul Music Awards”.
In a recent announcement on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, he wrote, “The Seoul Music Awards is denying that exclusion was on purpose, insisting that it was a mistake. However, we do not accept this as a reasonable argument.”
He also took a firm stance on the matter by saying, “The Seoul city government will halt its funding of the awards ceremony if the problem re-emerges ever again.”
Park promised both JYJ and their fans that such incidents will not happen again in the future.
He also acknowledged that his promise may not be enough to satisfy fans fully and said that he would take the side of JYJ members and their fans if necessary.

My heart aches thinking how much hurt the Seoul Music Awards’ Popularity Award situation did this time toward JYJ and fans all to overcome the difficulty with their hearts, like this. With words that said the city was only a titled sponsor, there has been a step taken backward; and I know, from fans’ anger, of the suppression.
City of Seoul has given notification with an official document to Seoul Music Awards organizers, to cease the city of Seoul as a titled sponsor from being in a recurrence later on. The organizers spoke about it as a simple blunder but I am unconvinced.
Even with an action like this, I know it is lacking in healing the hurt that remains in JYJ and fans’ hearts. If there is place where I can be together with the people who suffered the hurt with what happened, I will do it along with them anywhere.
