The only drama of any of the boys (even including Yunho and Changmin) I just wasn’t able to watch. 😕 I just couldn’t see any chemistry between the two main characters in the beginning and it totally killed the show for me. 😔
@Lizzy “I just couldn’t see any chemistry between the two main characters in the beginning and it totally killed the show for me.”
You are right; there was no chemistry between the two main characters. Since this was classified as a romcom drama, our expectations were that right from the start there is chemistry, the leads are genuinely in love but there are so many opposing forces which they have to overcome. The lovers’ struggle to overcome the barriers creates comic situations, tests the strength and loyalty of their love and justifies the happy ending and the wedding bells.
In this case, as you noted, there was no chemistry. But there wasn’t meant to be one. Actually Uee acted very well her character if she projected that lack of chemistry. Although Pil had been in her life since they were born, although he rescued her so many times both from her accidents and wrong moves, she never even noticed him and wondered why other girls were crowding around him. Soo Jin (like her mother) thought of herself as above her neighbourhood and the friends from the neighbourhood. She was ordering them around, she went with the church boy coz he gave her a camera, when he dumped her she went with the marine guy to make him jealous. Bong Pil told her once not to be late coz she goes out and has a good time but her mother calls him and blames him when she is late. Being materialistic, and seeking a way out of that neighbourhood, she hooked up with Jae Hyun. He told her that just in a few days he will get her out of that strange neighbourhood.
Because the story line does not follow the conventions of romantic comedy but is rather a tragi-comedy and Bong Pil is a tragic hero, the drama should have ended where Bong Pil was stabbed and was lying on the ground, wishing happiness to his one and only true love. His death would have been beautiful, logical and credible and Su Jin would have learnt her lesson as she realized in the end what a beautiful person Bong Pil was and what a special man she has missed in her life. This ending would have been consistent with the beginning – where the love was one-sided and would have made us learn something.
But the writers/editors/producers bow to public demand. They keep their ear to the ground and know people want Bong Pil to be rewarded and they change the logical ending and reward the public but at what cost did they reward Bong Pil? Similarly, due to public demand, they changed the ending of Triangle and it also ended illogically.
Having said all that, I must say that Jaejoong’s acting was superb. He entered the skin of his various characters and it was worth watching the drama, if only to enjoy his acting.
The last episode, though it was illogical and incredible, was beautiful and touching and it rewarded all characters and even gave hope to Goo Gil. .
I had hoped for a Season 2 and may be there will be with Goo Gil getting Jung Ae.
No! Bong Pil could not and should not die at the stab scene.
He is such a nice guy and so devoted his love for Sujin and thus should not just be remembered by Sujin. It is too tragic to see him dying like that.
Well, for watching a drama, as far as it is enjoyable with a fairly good storyline and excellent passion and acting skills by the actors, isn’t this good enough to call it a good drama? Why bother so much about logics. Timeslip actually is no logic thing itself. The drama “He is coming from the star” also has no logic, yet it is so popular. How logic could it be for a creature coming from stars and live on the earth as a human being for hundred of years. In my view, a drama is just a creative story or fiction which we appreciate by watching instead of reading. As long as the drama can inspire the audience of something and can touch their hearts, it is already a great success. The storyline of Manhole may not be too perfect, but it brings me joy and sadness and was touched in many of the scenes. I particularly like the chemistry between Pil and Sujin is in Episide 4, 7, 15 and 16. Those in last episode is particularly sweet. Congratulations Bong Pil! Well done!
I agree with you..
I feel the same! I enjoyed it for the acting itself and Jaejoong’s in particular! 😀
Goodluck…

Waiting for your updates👌👍💓
watched this because of JJ,.. stayed with it with all the chaotic emotions it extracted from deep within, but have to say the best ending it was!!! Happy with it! congrats to all!
I’m with you,

“stayed with it with all the chaotic emotions it extracted from deep within, but have to say the best ending it was!!! And I’m so proud for JJ and the whole Manhole Team.
Thank you for the gifs. So beautifully edited. I am already missing Pil now😅
The drama had issues, but I really enjoyed watching it and was always surprised that an hour had gone by. The last episode was touching and fun and I enjoyed the ending, particularly their worry that any midnight the manhole would whisk one of them away.
So, drama questions: Why did Jae Hyun originally fixate on Soo Jin and how did that happen? What’s his background? How does someone with a criminal background become a pharmacist?
Why didn’t Pil research Jae-Hyun’s background when he started to suspect him? Or, at least pass on his suspicions to the detectives working on the assault cases. I also expected Pil to have memorized Jae-Hyun’s license plate number and that number and the car description would have been broadcast out to police forces so they could search for it. In general, the police work didn’t seem very good, though it got a little better by the last few episodes.
Back in the present, did Jung-Ae ever find out that Dal-Soo was a chaebol? Because he was, right? Or maybe that hasn’t happened yet?
Anyway, it was pleasant watching Jaejoong and a nice, happy moment in my day. I hope he will continue doing dramas and it did seem to generate praise for his acting abilities. For all actors, it seems really hard to find/choose good scripts that are satisfying to the end. I also would prefer if JJ could do a pre-produced drama. These live-shoot schedules are really hard on the actors physically.
Thank you JJ and the Manhole Team, it was a great 2 months journey with Bong Pil, though it’s a an alien driven fantasy, yes it’s a fantasy, but a lot of lines are so relatable to various human emotions and experiences, it’s full of metaphors about life’

“Life is like a flute. It may have many holes and emptiness but if you work on it carefully, it can play magical melodies.”
“Life is a climb, but the view is great.”
Yes, the view is great, that we still have this feeling about the ending of Bong Pil’s journey, as Jaejoong said, not the typical COOL type of protagonist, he’s the cause of his own problems, at least he gets a job at the end. 👍😜🤣
@kris thanks so much for the lovely gifs! aishh i want to be twirled like that by any of the JYJ members! i can dream, can’t I? our JJ is always a most beautiful man. someday maybe we will see his match…. i mean a very pretty leading lady.
I kept watching only because of our Jaejoongie! His acting was spot on. I saw lots of his real self, dorkie, funny, weird, adorable and lovable!
@Lexy Cheng-Sy
Can I dream with you? 🤗That twirl is so lovely, gifs credit to 김재중귀엽다봇 @jj_adorable_jj 😍

That kissing scene is like made in heaven, it’s a masterpiece, the most beautiful I’ve seen in kdrama, cinematography perfect with the panoramic view of the sunset + Jaejoong and Uee, salute to the production team, I read there were a lot of takes of that scene. The gif is by 뿌리 @bornfreeonelove shared in twitter, million thanks to her, she shared a lot gifs from that scene, hope Jaejoong could see how his fans cherish his hard work.. Who won’t fall in love with these?
Thank you 👍
