Actor, general remarks: Let’s look back at the obstacles in Park Yuchun’s acting journey. His dancing and singing abilities were already at the top, but for his acting skills, it was a dangerous attempt; if he did not act well, he would be laughed at for “rotten acting”. Instead of going down familiar and cliche routes, he instead insisted on tackling projects that were outside of the norm. He co-starred in “Miss Ripley,” “Rooftop Prince,” and “Missing You.” The singer won the BS Drama Acting Awards in 2010, Paeksang Arts Awards, MBC Drama Awards, and the SBS Drama Awards just last year. Not many people had high expectations for Park Yu-chun in 2010 when the singer said he would start acting. Park made his first appearance on the small screen with “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and excelled at portraying Lee Sun-joon in the fusion historical drama. The selection of genre for his acting debut was perhaps an ideal one, as fusion historical dramas have historically had mass appeal. Park could have chosen the safe path of acting by choosing a romantic comedy as his follow-up project. Against his fans’ expectations, he decided to go for melodrama. With “Miss Ripley” costarring Lee Da-hae, he built his reputation as an actor. The last two dramas he starred in — “Rooftop Prince” and “Missing You” — also confirmed his talent for acting. Just three years into his acting career, the JYJ member garnered four major acting awards, in the KBS Drama Acting Awards in 2010, Paeksang Arts Awards and MBC Drama Awards in 2011, and SBS Drama Awards in 2012.

Members from idol pop group or singers who are not schooled in acting are actively going into drama serials.
The criticism regarding their unpolished acting are already a thing in the past. Although some singers are venturing out in their first drama, they are winning critics and viewers over with their outstanding skills and perceptive emotions. For those idol singers who had succeeded in drama, they are called drama idol star.
So, who among these Korean singers are most suited to be drama stars? One Korean media company did a survey with 25 currently most popular Korean drama directors and below are the findings. Please note that for the sake of fairness, those idol singers who had not acted in any drama for the past 5 years were excluded from the survey.
In 2nd place is Park Yuchun (JYJ) who has starred as lead actor in many TV series was voted by 7 director for this honor. One director commented that oversea export sales doubled for Sungkyunkwan Scandal was due to the fact that Park Yuchun was the lead actor.

For someone who started out as an idol singer, Park Yoo Chun has quickly become a respected actor. He recently won his third popularity award at this year’s Baeksang Arts Awards. He is the first actor to win the award three years in a row and he can add it to his collection of trophies from all three major Korean television channels.
This year’s Baeksang Popularity Award was given for his role in “Missing You,” which received a 54.3 percent approval rating. The JYJ singer won the first time for playing in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and then again last year for his role in “Miss Ripley.”
“I’m thankful for receiving this great award and I will happily act to receive it again next year,” said Park, who is considering new roles.
An official at the awards ceremony credited the win to Park’s acting skills and his willingness to challenge himself, saying, “We believe the way he matures with every new piece appeals to his viewers.”
On 15 April, Idol group B1A4 Jin Young choose Park Yuchun as his role model in acting during the press conference of tvN drama <우와한 녀 / She is WOW> “After watching senior Park Yuchun acted with sincerity, really thinks he’s great in acting”. Jin Young in the drama will be acting as problematic son (Gong Ming Kyu) of leading actor and actress with handsome look and violent character.

Foreword
