JYJ Enthralled Fans at San Jose Concert
JYJ Enthralled Fans at San Jose Concert
Last Friday (6/3), JYJ finished the North American leg of their 2011 World Tour at the San Jose Event Center. As promised in their world tour press conference last month, the trio showed off their talent and delivered a show that pleased both visually and musically. And to top it off, concert attendees had the honor of singing “Happy Birthday” to their Korean idol face-to-face during the concert.
Before the show, many fans arrived early to prepare themselves for the concert. To show their support for Jaejoong, Yuchun (also known as Micky), and Junsu, some fans dressed in red, dyed their hair, and wore red glowing “Mickey Mouse” ears. Some of the fans also handed out red finger lights and signs that said “Don’t Go (Gajima in Korean), USA Loves JYJ”. Although red is the color used for TVXQ, many fans express their continued support for JYJ, who were members of the original group, with the same color.
Before the concert, we talked to several fans and tested their knowledge of JYJ. Here’s our video coverage of the pre-show fans gathering in front of the concert hall, featuring guest host Cassandra Farrar. Check it out and see if you know JYJ as well as these fans do:

Unlike their previous US tour, JYJ’s 2011 North American concerts featured Korean songs they wrote themselves.

After holding successful U.S. showcase performances in 2010, the Korean singing sensation JYJ returned in May 2011 for a concert tour in four different North American cities. Even though the tour was winding down at its last stop at the San Jose Event Center Arena in June, fans were pumped as ever, all decked out in red and ready to have a good time. Red shirts, red glow sticks, red signs — it’s really quite something to witness the red ocean, the masses of fans showing their support by wearing JYJ’s representative color. It’s even crazier to see the whole venue light up with a red glow as fans wave their sticks to the beat of each song. Before the two-hour concert kicked off, the audience was buzzing with anticipation while the screens played the dance rehearsal and tutorial video for the “Be My Girl” remix — showing the audience the flash mob dance that would take place when the song is performed later on in the show.

FANACCOUNT 1: “The thing embedded in heart, it has its own language.”
I just came back from San Jose, a trip lasting two days and one night with my foster mother, Sherri. Although she is not a fan of JYJ, I was able to persuade her to come with me, for I do not want to go by myself at all.
On Saturday, June 3, I arrived at the San Jose International Airport around noon. I ate dinner at lightning speed. Around 6:45pm, Sherri said, “You really want to go right now? We still have blah blah blah and I have not finished eating yet!” I didn’t even wait for her to finish her sentence and screamed out loud, “MOM, WE’RE LATEEEEE!” as I pulled her along with me. We got to the concert around 7:00pm.
What I can see from the outside:
When you step upon the stairs, you will see a few girls from JYJ4SJ handing out lightsticks. The lightsticks look like this:

CONCERT
Jaejoong
I was most excited about seeing Jaejoong up close in the live concert because I have read numerous fanaccounts where fans were taken back by his gorgeous appearance and a glowing “aura” that seemed to surround him. What is the one word I can describe Jaejoong after getting my dose of seeing them boys in real life? FLAWLESS.
I.kid.you. not. Even though I didn’t think that he had a glowing aura, he was just everything else that I have expected. Appearance-wise AND performance-wise. And let me just tell you now, don’t believe anyone that said he couldn’t dance because oh my, the boy sure knew how to dance very well XD.
Appearance:
Jaejoong really looked like a real life anime character! When the first song Empty started and Yuchun’s “Girl I swear~” came out, everyone in floor all rushed to the front of the stage. My seat was to the left and near the extended stage, but somehow I was able to run all the way up front. I can remember the claustrophobic feelings while standing in the sea of cassies/jyjers, because most were much taller than me. So I climbed onto the closest seat of the second row and enjoyed my view from there (very sorry for the one sitting at that seat later) XD. Because of the higher eye level and closeness, I had a better look at the boys for the first maybe three songs. For the second song I.D.S they started walking towards the extended and so I had a better look at Jaejoong because he was on my side. A slight hint of his right dimple could be seen while singing the song, and gosh he was just darn beautiful!! I remember wishfully thinking that if I could just flew from the seat onto the stage and demanded my free fan hugs…XD.
To end this section let me just say that though Jaejoong was beautiful, he DID NOT elicit any femininity at all.
[RELIVE: JYJ 2011 World Tour] JYJ brings the fire to San Jose!
After holding their showcase tour last autumn, JYJ has returned to North America for their “2011 World Tour“!
Having impressed fans with their shows in Vancouver, Newark, and Los Angeles thus far, JYJ’sJaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu ended the tour with a bang on June 3rd, performing their final concert at San Jose State University’s Event Center Arena in San Jose, California.

The concert may have been scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM, but JYJ’s presence at the venue was obvious long before the arena even opened its doors. With fanclub banners strung across campus and supporters passing out free posters, red glowstick headbands, and light-up finger lights before the show, any passerby would be hard-pressed to miss the feeling that something huge was taking place that evening.
As attendees began to stream into the arena for seating, the letters “JYJ” blazed across the enormous screens that flanked each side of the stage. The light-studded wall behind it glittered with gradients of colors, and two glass cages were placed on both sides of the platform. Though the stage was still empty of performers, the set-up promised a dynamic performance for the night.
A practice video played on the screens during this time, revealing the backup dancers who ran through the choreography for “Be My Girl“. Since the video had subtitles, it gave the audience an opportunity to learn each dance move in the routine.
