Jaejoong’s Mannish Apartment
JYJ’s Jaejoong, who has begun to act not merely in Japan but also in Korea through the recently-finished Protect the Boss, finished the design of the interior despite his busy schedule and moved to a new house. It is a space that mostly preserved the existing finishing material and structure as they were and instead used only styling to make the different-feeling mannish styles of each room stand out.
I want a house that does not seem like a house. The house is not a penthouse or a loft but I wish that it will look as if it was a loft in New York. I wish that it would be formed into a space that is citylike yet fun…” Jaejoong, in commissioning the interior design to a designer, explained the scene of the home that he paints with broad strokes in this way. The editor who heard of the news of Jaejoong’s move and the suggestion of the filming of his home from the designer, momentarily hesitated due to the issue of whether an idol entertainer would fit in with Maison. But when the editor heard of the concept of the interior that Jaejoong had wanted, he came to have the greed/desire to introduce Jaejoong’s house through Maison. With that, for about a month in his home the interior work took place. It was a work of “home dressing,” With the exception of the wallpaper, the existing finishing materials were not replaced and the structures were not replaced also. However it required much thought as much as a renovation and also was time-consuming. The marble finish and the extravagant chandelier, the classical wardrobe-closet and such factors were located throughout the house and the question was how to transform the space into a fun and mannish one without getting rid of them. Despite his packed schedule of filming a drama, Jaejoong met with the interior designer and meticulously examined and modified the design draft proposals and picked out the furniture and the props along with the designer. He showed a level of enthusiasm toward interior design to the degree that if there happened to be a moment of free time during his filming, he would visit interior shop by himself to purchase the props. As a result, each space of his home changed into a different style of mannish look and have come to be fitted to evoke interest. And, in this space, I began to talk “house” with the owner of the home, Jaejoong.
Q: What did you like about this home that caused you to move?
When the world tour was over, all members of JYJ came to prepare to move. Yoochun’s mother, who had been house-shopping, saw this and recommended it to me. It is convenient with regards to traffic, has large windows and so gets a lot of light, and I also liked the structure. I felt that in this place, for each of the space I would be able to form it into any composition that I want.
Q: I think that because of the schedule of the drama filming, the move and the interior work could not have been easy. Is there a reason that you pushed all of this through despite the busy schedule?
I plan to live in this house for a long time, and so I thought that I should do some interior work on it before I move in. And I thought that if I did not make up my mind to proceed with it when I move, because I am busy I was likely to just live as it was, and so I told myself not to push it off. Read More →
