He may take the energy to shrug his shoulder, about receiving more love at filming locations, like so due to his fans; but they have caused a big shock with the extreme instances of going too far.

In 2012, public criticism heightened toward JYJ, even back then, in the incident where a negative file spilling the verbal abuse the members fired at sasaeng fans was disclosed to the public; but the media and sasaeng fans were hit with backlash for releasing the audio files, too, since it served as momentum in shedding light on the difficulties for stars on the part of sasaeng fans.

Back then, JYJ member Park Yuchun complained of suffering: “We were tormented by sasaeng fans every single day for 8 years. It was like we were in a prison without bars”.

Kim Junsu also confessed about shocking instances where: “[Sasaeng fans] installed location-tracking devices in our cars, chased after us continuously, trespassed frequently, and took photos of our individual things”, “Sometimes when we were sleeping, they have even tried to come closer and kiss us; and deliberately have even made wagers on minor accidents in taxis”.

[NEWS] 130415 JYJ’s Kim Jae Joong Scolds Sasaeng Fans Waiting for Him at the Airport

Struggling once more with completely obsessed fans, JYJ’s Kim Jae Joong called out his sasaeng fans, who have been causing disturbances at the airport.

On April 14, Kim Jae Joong tweeted, “I came back to Korea in a good mood, and it’s fine if you’re trying really hard to take pictures like you’re a photo journalist, but if a grandmother or a grandfather has fallen while passing by, don’t you think you should help them up or apologize? Instead of after getting in the car, checking to see if your photos came out nicely, couldn′t you go check and see if it wasn′t your grandmother?”

Kim Jae Joong returned to Korea after holding his Your, My, and Mine concert in Taiwan on April 13. According to his tweet, there were some disturbances caused by sasaeng fans, which left the singer quite upset.

[NEWS] 121019 GEEK OUT CNN: When fans go too far

As an overly passionate, silly geek, when I like something, I don’t just “like” it. I tend to get excited in a very specific way, going into full fan mode fairly quickly (see this drawing for a visual explanation).

Once I get rolling, I become a constant broadcaster, excitedly telling my friends about my newest obsession, while I wave my hands around in the air for emphasis.

This excitement is called “fangirling” (or fanboying, as the case may be), and it’s fairly common behavior when it comes to the nerd world. In fact, it even extends beyond nerds: Stamp collectors, vintage record experts, and doll fanatics have their moments, too. We all light up when we get a chance to talk about the thing we love. When we share our enthusiasm, we welcome another person into our inner circle.

Sometimes, though, in the midst of marathoning yet another Asian drama with impossibly good-looking leading men, I’ll catch myself wondering: Is my fandom escapism? And can it go too far?

All pleasures can lead to escapism, but where do they cross over into obsession? Are you obsessive if you spend each year crafting yet another insanely detailed Final Fantasy costume to wear to Dragon Con, or are you merely nurturing your creative pursuits? Is an encyclopedic knowledge of Star Trek history a good thing, or does the need to keep it up-to-date eventually edge out the necessities of life?

If there’s one sect of fandom that’s all about creating worlds to escape to, it’s fan fiction. Magan Cubed, who has been actively involved in the fanfic community for over a decade, said fandom is usually a harmless social networking tool. But at its worst, it can become dangerous, leading to stalking or harassment, she said.

“This tends to happen when a camp of fans become overly entitled,” Cubed said, “They begin to feel that they have a say in how the source material is written, presented, cast, etcetera, and that the creative staff is wrong for not following their wishes. This often presents itself as a sense of ownership over the actors of a film or television series, and has resulted in threats against the actor and his or her loved ones, both online and in person at conventions.”

[NEWS] 120802 JYJ Files 100 Million Won Damage Suit Against Media Outlet For Sasaeng Fans Abuse Story

JYJ filed a 100 million damage suit against a media outlet, referred to as “D” media outlet, on August 1 at the Seoul Central District Court.

The issue on hand revolves around the release of several audio tapes a few months before in March, which allegedly showed some of the JYJ members angrily yelling and cursing at a number of sasaeng fans who had been stalking the JYJ members.

The legal representatives for JYJ pointed out that the fact the audio files were illegally recorded and released without the consent of the party involved made it clear grounds for libel and was an invasion of privacy.

The legal representative added JYJ initially filed a suit against the “D” media outlet in March, however after much internal discussion, it was decided that a civil suit would be more suited leading to the cancellation of the initial suit.

[NEWS] 120710 Park Yoochun, sasaeng fans installed CCTV, “You are not fans”

An article entitled “Sasaeng fans of Park Yoochun installed CCTV in the parking lot of his house” that was posted on an online community board inflicted shock.

A photo captured by CCTV shows Park Yoochun hiding behind a wall, looking around the parking lot and was moving cautiously.

These CCTV are installed by sasaeng fans in the parking lot of Park Yoochun’s house. The screen captures that came directly from the CCTV has led to a greater impact in the online community.

Looking at this photos, netizens posted: “This is really severe”, “It’s even hard for him to enter his own house”, “Sasaeng fans please stop now”, “Scary”, showing a variety of reactions.

Park Yoochun in an interview last June with TV report said “I do not think they are fans. I’ve tried to understand them but it’s been eight years and it’s difficult.”
