[REVIEW] 160106 Funcurve: Must-Watch Korean Dramas of 2015, by Genre — ‘TGWSS’
2015 was a prolific year for Korean drama, not just in sheer number of dramas produced, but also in the diversity of themes and genres. Creative and offbeat concepts ranging from multiple personalities, to supernatural powers, to vampires, drew a lot of interest long before the dramas even aired. As we welcome 2016, it’s time to have a look back at some of the not-to-be-missed dramas of 2015 in their respective genre.
But before we get started, let us explain the criteria of our selection. First, a top drama for us is usually comprised of an intricate story, memorable characters with depth, a talented cast, and air-tight execution. Unusual premises, savvy dialogues, and beautiful cinematography add brownie points; lapses of logic, overused tropes, and extended downtimes majorly detract from the experience. Secondly, dramas that began in 2014 and finished in 2015 are considered while dramas that aired in 2015 but won’t wrap up until 2016 are not. With these expectations set, let’s jump in.

[NEWS] 160101 ‘In military service’ Park Yuchun awarded Top Excellence Acting…Shin Se-kyung substitute-awarded
Actor Park Yuchun was awarded the Top [Male] Excellence Acting Award at SBS Acting Awards [aka SBS Drama Awards].
In COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul on December 31, the ‘2015 SBS Drama Awards’ was conducted via live broadcast.
On this day, the Top Excellence Acting Award in the mini series category was received by ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ Park Yuchun. MC Lee Hwi-jae disclosed, “Since he is in the middle of his military service, Shin Se-kyung will be accepting the award and giving the acceptance speech”.
Shin Se-kyung said, “On behalf of Park Yuchun-ssi being in the middle of his military service right now, I am standing in, instead,” and, “I am delighted to be filling in for this honorable moment. I will be delivering this award well (to him). I am thankful for the love from ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ viewers and everybody a lot. I wish you a Happy New Year!”.

Joo Won, Kim Hyun-joo, Yoo Ah In, Kim Tae-hee, Moon Geun-young, Cho Jae-hyun, Joo Ji-hoon, Ji Jin-hee, Shin Se-kyung, and Park Yuchun were awarded the Top 10 Stars Awards at 2015 SBS Drama Awards held in COEX D Hall in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on December 31.
Joo Won and Kim Tae-hee enjoyed the honors of receiving the Top 10 Stars Awards for being in ‘Yong-pal’, Kim Hyun-joo for being in ‘I Have a Lover’, Yoo Ah In in ‘Six Flying Dragons’, Joo Ji-hoon in ‘Mask’, Moon Geun-young in ‘The Village: Achiara’s Secret’, Cho Jae-hyun in ‘Punch’, Ji Jin-hee in ‘I Have a Lover’, Shin Se-kyung in ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ & ‘Six Flying Dragons’, and Park Yuchun in ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’.
