Read More →JYJ‘s documentary ‘THE DAY‘ finally opened on the big screens on February 23rd, and it triumphed over ‘War with Crime : Era of the Bad Guys‘ to claim the #1 spot at the box office.
According to the Korean Film Commission, 17.8% of all tickets sold were for JYJ’s ‘THE DAY’, while ‘War With Crime’ came in at #2, selling 17.0%.
‘THE DAY’ is a documentary that reveals footage of the JYJ members living their daily lives and speaking honestly about their dreams and struggles. The film ran into some complications before it actually became possible for it to premiere.
It was first scheduled to air on QTV but the broadcast was unfortunately cancelled, and the film was then planned to premiere on the big screen with CGV but the plans fell through. Finally, the film was confirmed to premiere with Lotte Cinema.
JYJ group members Kim Jaejoong and Kim Junsu showed up for an unannounced stage greeting and surprised the audience.The JYJ members took turns to greet the audience at ‘The Day’ documentary’s premiere in Hongdae on the 23rd.
‘The Day’ documentary is a honest story about the members’ normal everyday life and their dreams. It was scheduled to be broadcasted on cable television channel ‘QTV’, but it was cancelled. After that, it was supposed to be shown on CGV, but JYJ received a letter of cancellation as well. The documentary was scheduled for opening at Lotte Cinemas in the end.
After greeting the audience at Hongdae, Kim Jaejoong headed to Sinrim alone. According to the audience presented in the theatre, he appeared on stage after the movie had ended and even took off his sunglasses at the audience’s request. He also spotted some male fans and answered questions from the audience, spending a heartwarming time with them.
Group JYJ’s (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu) daily-life documentary film “The Day”, with its content that satisfies all five senses, together with stage greetings (by the members), attracted crowds and caused the cinemas to be extremely packed during its first day of screening.
On 23 February, “The Day” began showing on 19 of Lotte Cinema’s big-screens, attracting more than 4,000 viewers. “The Day” is a documentary film originally filmed by JYJ for TV broadcasting purposes. It was a collaboration done last year with cable TV channel QTV. However, the broadcast of the completed documentary ended up being cancelled by QTV, and will now finally be screened at Lotte Cinemas. The content this time was produced with the main intent of fanservice, and it has been edited into a 90 minute movie version.
The stage greetings on this day were done at Lotte Cinema at the Hongik University Entrance. From the carpark, to the entrance of the building, to the streets nearby, all these areas were packed with crowds of both local and international fans. In order to manage the entrance and prevent chaotic situations, the entrance of the building had a sign which said “Entry Only Allowed For Ticket-Holders”.
JYJ’s documentary movie The Day, released on February 23, ranked first in ticket sales, beating Nameless Gangster.
On February 24, the Korean Film Commission reported that the ticket share of The Day was 17.8%. This is higher than the share of Nameless Gangster, which is 17.0%.
The Day is a documentary film about JYJ members’ life and dream. It went through a hard time before it was released.
