I am so lucky to have Jaejoong as my bias coz he led me to two other great men – JS and YC and now Junsu has brought me to Park Eun-Tae. I really liked his voice in this promo (Who is Dorian) that was posted here a few days ago.
However, my curiosity has been raised on another point. I do not speak any Korean at all but having listened enough to my bias, Park eun-tae’s pronunciation sounds a bit different. Somehow to me he sounds like a foreigner who sings in Korean. Has he grown out of Korea so that he is more comfortable in another language, or is it just a different Korean dialect. I would really appreciate a comment from those of you who speak the language. Or am I just imagining that his accent is different from the standard Korean (or it might be my bias the one who has the accent?)
this is just my humble opinion. i think he does not have a dialect accent, it is more to do with his vocal training and pronunciation. i loved his voice in this clip and i think he and junsu will blow this musical out of the water! i would love to see what others think about it.
@ koreamom and @ Georgia Peach
Thank you very much for your comments. No wonder I felt something “western” in his way of rendering his part. It is his training in operatic diction in the Austro-German style. Since the closest Korean version to opera is the p’ansori which uses a very different vocal register, he had to be trained in the western operatic tradition.
Together with Junsu they will produce a great musical. I only hope they make a DVD
you are always sharing and teaching us stuff anna liza!
” koreamom Oh, sorry about that. Am I being overbearing? I have admitted to being a bit of a bookworm (may be that’s why JJ is my soulmate out of the three – I have seen him quoting even Oscar Wilde’s Dorian Gray)
But I have learnt a lot more from all of you contributing various viewpoints that had not occurred to me and sharing info I didn’t know.
don’t be sorrry for helping others learn things! i meant it as a compliment. i have learned so much from other’ opinions and comments. it is refreshing!
A.L. What did he quote from Dorian Gray do you remember ? I would so love to know him as a friend ! Have meaningful conversation and get to know him as a person ! Someone who you could share concerns and fears, joys and hopes with !
@ koreamom Thank you very much for the compliment (blushing). One thing I have observed in this blog and why I followed it, is that we have three great men from whom we learn a lot and we learn a lot also from each other because JYJ inspire us to research around some of the things they say or do.
we all love JYJ and we are in it together! if we did a poll of facts of each fan, it would cover many aspects of life and be pretty interesting i dare say. it would show a wide range of ages and occupations too!
Just listen to you, girlfriend! You must know a lot about opra! We had a conversation a long time ago about Nessum Dorma. Why I can’t remember…cause what would that have to do with our JYJ men? But I do remember it. It is quite obvious Park Eun Tae is classically trained.
And yes….Dorian Gray will be wonderful….will it be SuSu”s swan song? DVD? Dare we wish?
” Georgia Peach Oh, I had forgotten about that, now that you have reminded me I remember we exchanged quite a bit about Nessum Dorma and I even posted my favourite rendition of ND by Luciano Pavarotti and Cheryl also posted another piece by Pavarotti. (Wonder what became of her, she no longer visits us) And Georgia, you know when this was? Exactly a year ago at the 70th anniversary Love concert which took place at JJ’s birth place and I wondered if his first gf was watching him.
Re my knowledge of opera – My mother is an opera junkie and used to drag me to the Opera House ever since I could be permitted entrance and I used to hate it till I grew up and one day caught myself singing it on my own volition and enjoying it. Now, in Africa that’s the one thing that I miss the most – there is neither opera nor even musicals here 😦
Girl, just how did you remember all that? But at the mention, I too remember your comment about his former girlfriend coming to the concert. Talk about the one that got away? Now tell me how Nessum Dorma got into the conversation? Not an opera buff like you…just familiar with Nessum Dorma. Have seen two performances by the New York Metropolitan Opra in Atlanta…great experience! Ate at a famous drive in hot dog/hamburger restaurant called the Varsity in formal cloths before going to one of the performances…you should google The Varsity… Jae would love the place!!
How N D came into our conversation? On the program with the photos of the singers, as usually written in Korean of which I can only read JYJ’s names, suddenly Nessum Dorma were the other two words I could read. Since ND is an aria for a tenor I got confused as I thought JJ being a tenor would sing it. So I commented that ND was from Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot and was the most difficult part for a tenor to sing. At that point I noticed the huge chest of one of the other male performers whom I didn’t know and clicked that with that chest probably he would be the one singing it. End of story.
How did you remember so well…living in Kenya with the wonderful elephants has made the difference in your memory! Or did you find the post…you cheated if you did. Thank goodness, I do remember with your prompting!
And thank you for the Yuchun quote. He is very correct about hard times. They can be looked on as happiness and a time of knowing who stands with you! Hard times weed out the people who need to leave! I just wish we here at JYJ3 could find out how he is doing…. cause we do care so much. Somebody call his mother for us, please.
I’m inclined to think the same, Koreamom. His vocal training was for the musical stage. I remember Junsu saying he had to learn a whole new way of singing for the stage. The pronunciation was more precise than for an idol singer. Park Eun Tae has a very easy listening voice . And he is easy on the eyes too!
i remember junsu saying that!
F. Y. I. I ran across this blog…..https:/./.eugeneho.wordpress.co/ …..while looking up choco pies and the Korean Army. I had read soldiers got them during basic training. My Korean friends that I meet this past spring came for a visit and brought me choco pie, bulgogi, jjangmyeon and a cracker called gosome! Anyway, this gives an insight into basic training and the life of a private second class. To think Jae and Yuchun have already gone through some of this! And our Junsu….who didn’t want to fool with his suitcase on Fruit Trip…..will soon be a recruit!
Sorry, I couldn’t link this better…..🙄
