JYJ3’s Note: Japan’s Nikkan Gendai printed an article on March 5, 2011 that read in significant parts as follows:
(...Avex boosted its overall revenue greatly through “on-the-side” ventures such as BeeTV and through layoffs…)
But the reality for Avex is that it cannot be overjoyed—the reason is that its “day job” of music business has suffered a severe decline, with the revenue as compared to the previous year shrinking by more than 100 billion yen (approximately 100 million USD).
“Even Hamasaki Ayumi, who used to routinely issue “million” sellers, sold barely 100,000 copies of her three singles from the previous year. Furthermore, (it is expected that) by marrying an Austrian actor this year her popularity will fall further. Another thing that is affecting the situation is that the new offerings such as ICONIQ and GIRL NEXT DOOR that were meant to boost the company are not becoming very popular quickly,” (said a) music writer.
Furthermore, Avex announced the suspension of its “Shareholders-only Live,” which it had maintained since its going public in 1998. This looks like a move that is meant to appeal Avex as a “total entertainment company away from its (past as a) record company,” but in all honesty, there should be many shareholders who are unhappy with this (T/N: literally, “cannot understand”).
“Avex’s Shareholders-only Exclusive Live was an event that could be called iconic of the company, with popular singers such as Amuro Namie ad EXILE appearing with frequency, with more than 10,000 shareholders gathering. Even though in the recent years the big acts have appeared less often, there must have been many shareholders who were (nonetheless) looking forward to the event. The “Leave Avex” (movement) by the music fans will likely even worsen,” (said a) market expert (T/N: literally, a “market affiliate”).
“Red Cliff” also, which looked like a big hit, has actually lost money, and Avex has pulled out from producing movies. If it cannot obtain a new source of revenue, Avex looks to be in an even more precarious position (in the future).
How interesting ^^.
We wonder just what change could have occurred to Avex’s music business in the last year to cause its revenue from its music business to fall by a whopping 100 billion yen… *^^*

Me too……hmmmmmm. 🙂 Well now, if I was a mean person, I would say couldn’t happen to a nice bunch of dorks. Oh what the heck!
COULDN’T HAPPEN TO A NICER BUNCH OF DORKS!!!
Lady Karma, thank you SO MUCH!
LOL
I love it~! ^______^
LOL!!
LOL AVEX.
This is what happens when you don’t stop
making stupid moves that piss off your consumers.
Well, now there going to make up for that loss through the JYJ Memories in 2010 DVD. Just great.
At least Avex revenues did go down, I wonder how much SM’s revenue went down after we all boycotted them.
LoL…love ur comment. ^^
Looks like ALL those artists SME is sending over to AVEX are going to have to work double time to help make up the difference.
I’m of the mindset now, as long as JYJ gets their share of the copyrights and royalties, put out as much as you (AVEX)can. This will only help put money on THEIR pockets to do the things they want to do AWAY from both sets of bloodsuckers.
They’ve been doing this since last fall. This is nothing new. This started right after they did the suspension. They started releasing TOHO works, along side JYJ’s works, using JYJ’s popularity.
and according to bloomberg businessweek report 2010 revenue drop 83.9% from the previous year.
and their lowest quarterly revenue is the last quarter.
now I understood the need for the money sucker agency, irregardless of morality, released the album.
do your best while you can, coz it wouldn’t last long. I just don’t know how long are they gonna last.
LOL! Love the final comment!
I’ll give three guesses, and the first two are wrong.
🙂
Wasn’t JYJ promoted by Avex last year? They released Junsu single in May, JYJ’s album and DVD in September, and some other stuffs from the 3. They just cancelled JYJ’s activities at the last of the year. So I belive the reason is definitely the disbandment of THSK5, not because of JYJ.
I wish they explained which quarter is this report of. That way we can determine what was released on those months.
There’s a saying in spanish “mas vale pájaro en mano que ciento volando”. You let go those pretty little birdies and if you try to catch them back I hope they flip you the bird. Or make you pay throu the nose.

you can find the quarterly report here from bloomberg.
the lowest revenue was the last quarter.
They re-released work from both sets. They have no shame.
Basically, it’s still because of JYJ since undeniably, JaeChunSu are the most popular THSK members ( as far as the Japanese market is concerned), this is only my observation in case some might raise an objection.
I think its a combined loss of both- TVXQ5 and JYJ. Earlier in the year they released both products simultaneously and in the last quarter they released no TVXQ5 or jyj products.
I wouldn’t say its JYJ only that contributed to the loss but both jyj and tvxq5.
Did you miss that Orchestra album of TOHO songs? I think that came out around October. I remember thinking it might sound pretty good because their Japanese songs are really nice. I think I recall seeing that on SYC. Oh, AVEX tried alright, they knew they were going to take a hit.
WAIT, THERE’S A “LEAVE AVEX” MOVEMENT?
Where was I when this started?
They mean that music fans are not that interested in the content that Avex is putting out and they aren’t buying, not that they are starting a “movement”.
Oh ok.XDD
TO AVEX: “You should never bit the hands that feed you.”
What goes around comes around eventually!!!
to bad for them, tvxq5 and jyj was their best seller… :p
lol this is part one of karma i wish much more to happen to them
*laughs evilly in the corner*
I’m going to join you in that corner. I’ll bring the snacks and drinks! Do you like dip?
cheese dip for me please. I’ll join you at the corner, since you have the food… hehehehehe
btw, diet for me.
I’ll join you after the middle of March to celebrate the fall of the gains of the SME and AVEX and JYJ’s victory all together.
I have already prepared a case of champagne!
Ill join you with some wine and cheese!!
imma join too~! soju’s on me! ^^
**Party Over Here!!**
Who wants to bring dessert?!
I’ll bring it!
*Ice wine* sweet!!!!want some???
lol yea, cheese dip is my favorite, i’ll get lots of popcorn too
^__^
Looks like this will be the place to be!
Wow! So thats why they decided to sell the DVDs and CDs of jyj ( without consulting jyj first). Their pupose is just to regain what they loss!!
What do they think about JYJ??? > money generators that generates money for them??
KARMA will bite your ASS!!!
Haha!!
OUH….hahaha
Yes, JYJ and Tohoshinki5 were their bestsellers and “moneymakers.” Now, they are “stuck” with 2/5 of the group and with SM’s current attitude towards the duo (I feel they are just throwing them to the wolves), they are losing even more fans (profit).
One thing I will say I’ve noticed recently: the fans of DBSK2 are not the same set of fans of DBSK5. Never before have I seen DBSK5 singles on sale on ebay for 100 yen like I have with DBSK2 after mass buying of their single by so few people.
Seriously, think abt it.
I think they are only after of the quantity sold to make it to the chart so they can boast around, don’t care about the actual revenue ( which i find really a very cheap move).
I agree, that is what I think too.
That is part of the reason that single was “criminally cheap” (I heard that from someone else but don’t remember who)and, as a result so easy to buy in bulk imo.
is it true ? they buy their own cd ?
what a shame !!
Care to explain more. Do you really think that SM doesn’t give a damn about them anymore????.
I have felt that from the new TVXQ. TVXQ5 were number one in everything and so respected, everyone looked up to them, and now TVXQ2 it’s like they are not important anymore.
Yunho’s behavior is just so surprising to me, he behaves like a rookie, well more like, they things he says about the new TVXQ(you know about that famous comment).
I am not bashing HOMIN, it’s just that I thought I was the only one that saw this.
I consider this something that they need to expect since they are actually a new unit, only composed of two. JYJ started on their own too, but they’re doing very well at the moment. It’s a fair game, if you ask me.
(It’s just that SME is keeping HM under their black wings and it seems it’s getting darker in that place for the two.)
I think if SME had really cared about Yunho and Changmin’s careers being long lasting, they wouldn’t have alienated the majority of their fans with the TVX2 business. They could have gone on as Yunho and Changmin or U-Know Max! (Look at me be clever.) And many of us who were backing them right up until SME put them on the career path as SME spokesmen would have been there to support the new efforts.
Eliza, that would have been too much like right.
Somehow, I just don’t see that SME gets it. They are too blinded by rage, and therefore lose what common sense they might have had. All that negativity just keeps dragging that side down. It’s as if they are drowning in it, and keep batting away the life perservers.
It’s stunning that they chose SM instead of JYJ when SM has made it so clear that they intend to do business in Japan directly, cutting Avex out. Are they that stupid? The loss to the music business is the predictable result. Sorry, Avex, looks like you bet on the wrong side.
It’s called being ‘had’. 🙂
Yup. Exactly. And that’s the polite word for it!
@Christine
because we are good kids. LOL
Avex Group Holdings Inc. had revenues for the full year 2010 of ¥19.0B. This was -83.9% below the prior year’s results.

thnks 4 the link ^^
Thanks for the links. It is so bad that I am “enjoying” going through the numbers? 😀
I’m just going to continue buying JYJ’s products to show these companies what they could’ve had but lost.
we are thinking the same thing, heheheh, what a family!!! stupid Avex, stupid SM, bad move, bad decisions, oh well!
honestly i rather save that money and buy more of three voices or something. direct support for the boys
me too i buy all JYJ album
and now waiting for their new english album
and im already but their concert ticket for next April
My guess is this is for the year 2010 because it is for a whole year to compare to the previous year. They promoted JYJ only through August – A Nation. They did release somethings after that, but not much.
I am guessing that Avex saw this situation and it is what led them to hope SM would save their music business with it’s many popular artists. They didn’t think they could make it with just JYJ.
I actually never had a problem with them dropping JYJ. A business decision has to be made. The way they did it was unforgivable. They made JYJ the bad guys, accusing them of being mafia types, even bringing Yuchun’s manager’s law suit to accuse Yuchun of being a bad guy (laughable accusation), playing the victims, and ending by calling JYJ arrogant. Made the whole atmosphere of the press throughout Asia hostile, which showed up in the Showcase tour.
Such behavior brought on the perfect storm against them – loss of revenue from JYJ, turning away a large number of fans from their whole company, not just DBSK related, and incredibly bad karma. I can’t imagine what they would have to do to repay such a debt to the innocent JYJ and fans.
And if they’d had the foresight to hedge their bet by separating from JYJ more gracefully, they could have waited a “tasteful” period of time, and then – surprise – started promoting them again. But, no, they went for the short term win with SM. Seems to suggest they’re good at neither judging talent nor at basic business smarts…
Best news ever hhohoohohoho
“We wonder just what change could have occurred to Avex’s music business in the last year to cause its revenue from its music business to fall by a whopping 100 billion yen… *^^*”
easy answer: them dont have THSK and JYJ u_U
Bad move! Bad, bad, worst move ever!
Congratulation AVEX: keep going hand in hand with SME is a nice shot! And get rid of talented people as JYJ will lead you to hit rock bottom .
Greedy pigs! Ke ke ke ke
“If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way.” Buddha
No wonder the CEO of AVEX is so mad with JYJ.
IA, I was wondering..why so much hate to JYJ?
now we get it…
me think he is actually very mad at himself
for making a very stupid decision in letting go JYJ!
Karma baby~~
Ohh, I so wanna laugh out loud but my family is gonna think i’m crazy, just like Avex and SM, so I should just heheheheheheheheh. :p
Who will believe a few guys can cause such huge ripples in the music industry?
What Avex and SM had done so far only serve to incurred more nay-sayers to themselves.
Had they been gracious enough, things may be different and they will still have a fair share of the profit that JYJ can bring.
Let them use JYJ to try to increase their profit.
It will not last long. Once the boy’s contract is up, Avex have no right to do so anymore.
And they will not be able to touch, even smell, JYJ future profitable earnings.
See who have the last laugh.
This is one of the reasons why I continually say, no company is TOO BIG to fail. If it can happen in the States…Enron, Arthur Anderson, etc., it can happen anywhere. They just have to make enough small mistakes for those mistakes to catch up and become one BIG one.
I have to think of an appropriate gift to present to Lady Karma. I want her to know her efforts are greatly appreciated, especially by JYJ’s fans. Any ideas? 🙂
Would love to be a fly on the wall at the next shareholders’ meeting at AVEX. Oh, be still my heart!
Maybe a few boxes?
Coz heads will roll and she may need a few places to hold them. Lol^^
I was thinking the same thing about the companies that went bankrupt in the States. SM and Avex are playing the dirty card right now. “Oh, we came this far already, just a little bit more won’t make a difference”
and then they keep playing and playing… and at the end..BOOMMM !! Shouldn’t they watch other companies mistakes and learn from it?
People keep saying, “SM is way too BIG to fall.”
I just shake my head at nonsensical comments like that.
@Upii,
That is absolutely correct. Those companies and others, didn’t know when to quit. When the light was cast on them, the dog and pony shows they put on were amazing. Then they started tripping over their lies. It just got worse and worse. And make no mistake, these were BILLION dollar companies! So, if THEY can tumble, SME and AVEX aren’t thinking. Nothing good comes from too much arrogance.
But that is not my worry. Stupid is, as stupid does, and you can’t fix it.
@Shadow
If it’s true there is a war going on between Max and Chiba, it will be interesting to see how that plays out. The stock portfolio shows they are both directors. It all depends I guess on what kind of promises Maxie can throw out to convince the rest of the board/stockholders to keep him in the job.
If Lady Karma does want some boxes, I know a place where she can get a good deal on bulk purchases. 🙂
@ButterfliesAreFree
Till now at least, Chiba had held himself slightly morally higher than that Max fellow.
If he is on JYJ’s side (Fingers crossed after seeing all those arrows sticking out of JYJ’s back), then it’ll be a good show to watch.
But businessman will be businessman, so any decisions done by Avex will mostly be based on what future revenues they’ll get.
Goodwill plays a part too.
Seeing that, it’ll be stupid for Avex to continue to drag itself through the mud with SM, though somewhat they already did.
I’m feeling positive with JYJ.
For there’s another thing we must remember,
Good will always prevail over Evil.
It’s only a matter of time. 🙂
@Shadow
“Good will always prevail over Evil.
It’s only a matter of time. :)”
You got it!!
WELL, THIS IS LIKE MUSIC TO MY EARS~~ ^_~
하 하 하 히 히 히 하 하 하 히 히 히 하 하 하 히 히 히 하 하 하 히
JYJ FIGHTING!!! JYJ FAMILY FIGHTING!!!
That’s a HUGE loss! But do I feel bad? HELL NO!!! I want Avex & SM to go down even further!!!
Well, I’m usually not one to laugh at the misfortunes of others but….SCREW YOU AVEX!!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I’m sick of these stupid companies treating my boys like crap and trying to damage their reputations….the deserve everything they’re getting right now.
What an interesting facts….. The AVEX lost money, that is why they were so desperate….
Hope that SME will be the same too…..
*CROSSING FINGERS* ^_~
Just sit here and LOL
and AVEX you think you’re smart to actually hand-in-hand with SME? HOH,Avex did you know that TVXQ5 fandom hate SME? did you know that the world that know SME hate SME? If you dont, now you know.
Well well well look what the cat drug in O_O.
…in hell. (Muahahahaha)
Ahh Lady Karma, you are precious indeed!
I am fighting not to laugh….LMAO! XDDDDDDD
(Sorry, Ayumi >.<)
Good. But I doubt that its solely because of JYJ/toho. They do shady business. And this is what they earned.
OT, but hope nothing will affect the artists, I love their artists. My HBIC Namie is there. Perfect queen is perfect.
¿Do you know how many bzillions they used to earn solely riding over DBSK’s shoulders?
” avex going down down down down down… doooownnn… dooowwnnn.. even if avex is going DOWN ”
i’m soo happyyyy 😀
oh i like this news!! 😀
The wheel of life, right now you’re up, tomorrow will be at the bottom.
That’s an easy answer: They don’t have any DBSK to exploit. Three of their slaves became rebellious and set free. End of the story.
hey wanzhaf, calm down, take a deep breath! in, out, in, out, stop giggling!! you are not a bad person. you are not the type to take pleasure upon other people’s suffering. Think about those who work hard for the company, those people who has to feed the family. You had been there once, remember? So be a good person and stop smiling!! Go, go, immersed yourself by drooling at yc-jj’s smiling face while singging that beautiful colors melody and harmony! and thank yourself that no matter how much you want to own that cd, you refrain yourself. Oh no, stop that smile!!, stop that laugh! Oh God, please forgive me for being so thankful that this news brighten up my day!!
