Recently the actors who were first singers are more active than ever before, and among them, Lee Seunggi and JYJ’s Park Yoochun accomplished notable success as actors. They proudly showcase their great acting abilities which parallel that of experienced actors, and made the audience forget that they were first singers.
‘Rooftop Prince’ of SBS and ‘The King2hearts’ of MBC, were aired on the same time and what’s more, they were both dramas containing princes. This competition between the two dramas finally ended on the 25th.
– “Rooftop Prince” Park Yoochun: From Seriousness to Laughter
Park Yoochun took on the challenge of acting two roles in this drama. In order to investigate the murder case of Joseon Crown Princess, Crown Prince Lee Gak, who traveled 300 years, took on the role of Home&Shopping heir Yong Taeyong.
In the beginning, the Crown Prince guards himself with seriousness and strictness. I think it may be Yoochun’s experience in “Sungkyunkuan Scandal” that allowed him to play that role easily. However, as soon as Lee Gak traveled to modern times, Yoochun started his acting that instigated so much laughter and created all the funny events.
As such, Park Yoochun’s Lee Gak was born. Though seriousness and laughter are completely opposite concepts and if leaning towards either of them it would shake Lee Gak’s role, Yoochun didn’t lose his center and showed all the faces of Lee Gak. Thus, through “Sungkyunkuan Scandal”, “Miss Ripley” and now “Rooftop Prince”, Park Yoochun has successfully put on the clothes of an actor.
– Winner is?
Between Park Yoochun and Lee Seunggi, they really played an even battle. Even the rating was fairly similar. However, there must be a winner, thus this round is won by Park Yoochun.
“Rooftop Prince” is a drama that holds characteristics of that of a period, mystery, and romance drama. Fitting Park Yoochun’s multi-faceted acting skills, he perfectly digested Lee Gak’s personality and role.
Park Yoo Chun deserves it…He worked hard for Rooftop Prince not to mention the sleepless nights of filming..
He’s a very good actor and will still be better in his next project for he is very dedicated in his work…^^
totally agree !! he improved A LOT !! 😀
he’s doing great in this drama. no doubt !! definitely, Park Yoochun won this round 😀 i miss you my prince… ❤
felt so proud,
yoochun fighting ~
Amen to that!
Yoochun~~~ Prince Lee Gak ~~~ Congratulation 🙂 🙂 🙂
“Fitting Park Yoochun’s multi-faceted acting skills, he perfectly digested Lee Gak’s personality and role.”
==> multi-faceted
the true word is chunface..=P
YooChun is a natural actor. He can pick up a character quickly and perfectly and RTP is by far not only his greatest challenge but success out of the three dramas he’s been in. I’ve said this multiple times but he’s grown so much from SKKS to Miss Ripely to finally RTP. Sometimes even i forget he’s a singer…which makes me always sigh in aww whenever i listen to him sing and play the piano like i’m hearing/watching it for the first time.
YooChun you will defiantly win many awards for your part in RTP because not only did you work hard, you deserve it.
Rooftop Prince!!! Always vote for Yoochun. Love You <3<3<3
rooftop prince the best!yoochun the BEST!
Come on, guys, the article is written only about Chunnie, there is nothing about LSG!
the truth is we’re all too biased with our love for Chunnie.
Don’t you think we are a bit unfair in comparing these two fine examples of K-star?
Pse don’t stone me as I am all about Chunnie winning, it’s just a bit partial at least for me personally.
No. We are not being unfair or even biased. Have you red the comments? (Nobody even compared the two, the article did)
And have you watched Chun in RTP? We call it as it is. He was awesome.
Plus we did not write the article. But based on these two “fine” actors acting in their recent dramas, as the writer said, if one of them were to take an award home for “best actor”, then that award belongs to Yoochun. Fair and square, with all biases aside.
To be fair, it could have had something about LSG but the translator didn’t put it in and may not have noted that they left out parts of the translation not regarding PYC. For me however, I don’t think it is unfair to compare since the comparison was being made before the drama began and during the drama so it makes sense that they would be doing a wrap up comparison.
Personally I’m a fan of Kdramas, but they tend to go into predictable mode way to quick. RTP was one of a very few handful of Kdramas in which I could not predict the ending and therefore tremendously more enjoyable the K2H. On top of that, LSG has never played a character that was believable to me. I don’t know why but when I see him in a drama, I don’t see his character, I see LSG, and it makes it difficult to buy into the whole drama.
Considering I have a bias about PYC and know more than I should about him, I expected to run into the same problem in RTP but he did an amazing job of making me believe all the different roles he took on during this project. And I found the chemistry of the OTP in RTP much more believable than the chemistry, or lack thereof, of the OTP in K2H.
But no stones are being thrown here, just giving my opinion on the situation. RTP won ratings wise and secured a spot on my list of ATF!
So you are expecting unbiased here at JYJ3? There is not a chance of me being unbiased. I love Yuchun and think he is the greatest in whatever he does. If you are looking for unbiased, I don’t think this is the place to look.
The translator omitter part unrelated to YC. But include the conclusion of the article that YC as the winner.
I already watch LSG work, Gumiho. I will proudly say YC is better than him. No offence, but that’s what I think. RTP also beat K2H rating.
Yoochun the actor = Versatile
Through this drama, he made the viewers coo over his charm, laugh over his facial expressions and cry over his sorrows. There were some glitches on a few episodes (probably because of bad editing or maybe the rushed scriptwriting?) but the last two episodes made up for it for me. I never got why Yoochun picked Rooftop prince over Moon that embraces the sun until I watched his character/characters evolve. I really feel he made the right choice in picking this drama. It accentuated his acting skills in different genres. The scriptwriter was right all along in saying the success of RP lies on how YC would approach his character. YC nailed it.
Ooooh! You are right. Now that you say it I see it too. The character of the main lead (The young King) in TMTETS wasn’t very challenging. That’s why we even loved the younger Crown Prince’s acting better than the older version (The young king). If Chun had picked TMTETS he would not have had the chance to express himself so much so well. He wouldn’t have been able to show us his improvement and nobody would have called him a great actor. All of a sudden I’m 10x happier that he chose Rooftop Prince.
I know the young king from TMTETS won an award, and I hope they also gave the guy who played the young Crown Prince an award too. In my opinion the younger kid was way more impressive.
@loveunchanged
Yes! After the travesty of Miss Ripley’s Song Yuhyun, YC has been more careful in picking a drama, I guess. He even said himself that he was disappointed in his performance in MR since he did not think he would be as saintly as Yuhyun after knowing he was being conned by Miri. He expected a transformation in his character in the second half of the drama but it did not happen. It obviously frustrated him. TMTETS became a national drama in Korea but maybe YC was not all about commercial success when it comes to picking dramas anymore. He probably now craves for juicy roles which will challenge him and show off his acting skills. Speaking of Kim So Hyun winning Baeksang, I did not think he deserved it. The kid who played KSH’s younger version was wayyyy better. Hopefully he wins one at the KBS Awards at the end of the year. Heck, the kid cast should all get awards of their own. They established the success of TMTETS.
Ooops! I meant MBC Awards.
Yes, if YC picked Moon Sun than he won’t able to show off his acting. By Rooftop Prince, he able to show wide different feelings. We all know that he’s good at saeguk but Rooftop Prince make people realized that he is capable to do something beyond that. As u said, no wonder the writer said that RTP depending on how Yoochun act is.
I have mentioned before that I became an accidental JYJ lover when I searched for YC after watching Sungkyunkwan. Chunnie didn’t leave that much of an impression on me, in fact I was wondering why he was the lead actor when my bias then was Yoo Ah In. I’d rather not compare Chunnie with LSG. I’d would just like to say that his acting has come remarkably a long way from SKKS. It is not perfect but for someone who is still pretty much new on the acting business, he portrayed the roles of LG and TY well. Am sure a lot of viewers laughed with him, felt awkward with him, cried with him, longed for the truth with him, held their breaths with him as to when he’ll go back to the past. His acting gave his character justice. Chunnie was probably surprised as a lot of people were with the way he handled his roles. I am just proud of him.
YC is the best !
hmm.. i follow both of the drama as i love SeungGi too (a fan of 1N2d here) but after the lameness death they gave to JaeKang n his wife and how they handle it… i gave up… i mean i know both of the drama are fantasy, but i started out on RTP as a fantasy drama, so eventho sometime the story seems make no sense, hey i always know this is fantasy drama. but K2H, it seems the drama boasted abt how this drama is could happened in the real life n based on the real life of NK n SK. but so many impossible plots are there. so many lame way of handling international politic issue (US general can ask SK King, A KING, to persoanlly apologized n bow to them? or the agree of bailing a serial killer that suspected of killing a king n queen, kidnap the future queen, killed the current king’s right hand n attempted to kill the current king? i mean really?) or the war issue (how come it was USA threaten to attack NK, but in the end it was NK n SK who were the people going to have war? shouldnt it was USA against NK?) or how easily they resolved the war issue (the wedding? wow, if it was that simple, i hope there wont be any war happen in the future). i mean i know it was fantasy too, but seems so many people boasted how realistic the drama n how it could happened it real life, i found so many “no way!” in the drama..
but acting wise, both Chun n seungGi are amazing… they impressed me so much!!! and seunggi shown so much of his acting that i never seen in K2H then in his previous 3 dramas eventho his charatcer almost the same=)
but maybe, RTP, out of its weaknesses (and i know they have many too), but maybe abit refreshing since i never seen any drama that pulled off the genre of fantasy-romentic-comedy-melo-mystery plots and quite well in it =)
Yes Yoochun deserve it coz he work so hard during a very tight and mourning period for him
If Yoochun weren’t born as a singer, he would be born as an actor for sure!
For me “True acting does not come out of your mouth through words, but is rather revealed through your eyes.” This is what Park Yoochun did, that is why he touch the heart of the viewers that is the reason when it comes viewers rating RTP is ahead to K2H even there are some minor problem in story line of RTP. Even we have preferences but still there is a standard to be followed and this standard was written in black and white by AGB Nielsen (review rating) so how can question that?
yoochun jyj
all d way:-)
Lee Gak is fictional character crown prince who came from 300 yr ago which is difficult to make connection with audience,but YC made it familiar I fell head over heel with ridiculous long hair,senguk speaking Lee gak only in second episode,is not like oh his acting so good,is just like I cry with Lee gak,laugh with lee gak.
Thing about YC acting is his ability to analyze the character well,he balance Laughter & sadness in the drama well.
Only after finishing RTP & watch other drama I realize YC can switch senguk,modern,lee gak,tae yong way of speaking pretty fast including body posture is just amazing.
Yes, YC as an actor is very cerebral. His ability to absorb a role is impressive. His improvement in every character he plays in is prominent.
hello @pian long time no see 🙂
@Zan JYJ= my encouragement
Hello sweetie!
if u have twitter join me @zanfaith is my acc,long time no see how are u,did u enjoy RTP 🙂
@Zan JYJ= my encouragement
Sweetie, I don’t have twitter. Been busy with work lately. I have yet to watch the last 4 episodes but took a glimpse on the wedding scene and the finale. OMG! So heartbreaking. The wedding, LG and PH’s love letters, prince crying over omurice, those scenes literally made me tear up. We can really relate to their feelings, right?
@pian
yes after reading letter when Lee gak tear up eating omurice I can hear my heat is breaking 🙂
waiting for best actor award for Yoochun ❤
LSG and PYC are both good actors..but this round bias aside the crown belongs to yuchun..he brings to life the character that was given to him…he really improved a lot from his previous drama..and im really thankful that he choose this drama…he really indeed is good actor…and im proud of him..
Definitely Chun deserves to win this hands-down! Just watch RTP, all doubters! 😉
Up front I want to clarify that I am a total JYJ fan and PYC is my fave of the three. However, I think the two roles cannot be compared. I watched both dramas and both actors did incredible jobs portraying the roles in their respective story lines. Unfortunately for LSG, his drama story line was awful and the English speaking supporting actors were beyond terrible! I swear they ambushed some tourists and asked them if they wanted to be in a drama. Some of the supposed Americans had accents that clearly indicated they were not American and some of those “American” soldiers were supposedly the best at what they do were pretty old with pot bellies! Needless to say, the lack of attention to detail and willingness of the producers to compromise made King 2 Hearts infuriatingly ridiculous. The only reasons I kept watching were the acting skills of LSG, Ha Ji Won, Yoon Je Moon, Lee Yoon Ji and Yoon Yeo Jung. They should be commended for sticking it out to the end and being able to hold viewers even when everything else about the drama sucked.
watched both of the drama… despite the fact that i am a JYJ fan, but i have to say that lee seung gi has more prince character than yoochun in this drama….
or maybe the genre of the drama?? although it both circulate around prince character…. but king 2 hearts is far more serious and heavy drama compared to rooftop prince…
love both of the drama by the way
micky is so cool than seunggi …
