Kim Junsu and his fans’ donation work is just as amazing as him becoming the double award winner of the Golden Ticket Awards
Kim Junsu of JYJ has become a double award winner of the Eighth Golden Ticket Awards. Even though idol singers trying out musicals have become some sort of a trend, Junsu is unique in a sense that no one else has been as active and successful as him. An important fact here is that his receiving two awards is not a mere act of fan service to please his idol fandom.
What is interesting about the Golden Ticket Awards is that this award is to celebrate ticket power. It is an award that shows true worthiness of successful musicals in a sense that the awards are given to so-called money-generating musicals. It is interesting to see that Kim Junsu received two very specialized awards such as Male Musical Actor and Concert Musician.
JYJ Kim Junsu’s worth that dominates the musical market is simply amazing.
The Golden Ticket Awards is rather interesting because it celebrates the persons with the most ticket power on the stage. [Getting this award] is a great accomplishment because it chooses the persons that are truly vouched for and recognized by producers.
Kim Junsu received the Popularity Award and the Best Male Lead award in 2012’s Korean Musical Awards. He really is a musical star that possesses both popularity and capabilities. A fandom may be able to work hard so that a musical actor can receive the Popularity Award. However, the Best Male Lead Award cannot be influenced by fans in that fashion. Receiving the Best Male Lead Award means that the actor has truly exhibited excellent talent as a musical actor.
Interpark, a ticket selling and distribution company, recently announced winners for the Golden Ticket Awards after they processed relevant information such as the number of tickets sold, additional points based on ranking, and on-line polls. Kim Junsu took the first place in both Musical (Male Actor) and Concert.
Kim Junsu who played the lead role of Tod in Musical ‘Elisabeth’ showed strong ticket power through his solo concerts as well as ‘Xia Ballad & Musical Concert’ that was held for 3 days at the end of December. It is only natural that he took two awards in a sense that he boasted unmatched presence in terms of ticket power.
“Kim Junsu receiving Musical Award in the Golden Ticket Award after he received the Best Male Lead Award [in the Korean Musical Awards] is evidence that he is sincere about musicals as well as possesses high box-office values.”
“It’s surprising that an idol singer took the first place in Musical. Kim Junsu proved that he is much loved by audiences of all ages.”
It was natural that compliments poured in when he received an award for ticket power on top of the Best Male Lead award. There is a saying that goes “grasshoppers only last for a season” [T/N: popularity or something/something’s dominance in one area is fleeting]. There are people who only consider musicals a quick business to generate income. There are idol singers that plunge into musicals using their popularity.
The idol singers’ advance into musicals seems to be a win-win business strategy between idols [and the musical industry]. Idols’ appearances in musicals have always been the target of criticisms because idols singers in musicals, rather than securing their place as sincere musical actors, were more about boosting ticket sales [using their popularity].
Unlike idols who considered musicals as dabbling into musicals and leaving their marks in the industry, Kim Junsu secured his place as a true star actor in the musical market. The fact that Kim Junsu proved his value as a true musical star, not just a mean to sell more tickets, confirms once again that he should not be called a mere idol singer.
“I really received so much love this past year. I thank my fans that cheered for me every time I stood on the stage.”
“I hope the audience that was with me while I was on the stage felt happy and gained happy memories. I think the best way to repay their love for my performances and music is doing my best and performing well on the stage.” The Eighth Golden Ticket Awards double award winner Kim Junsu did not forget to thank his fans who always supported him.
Some criticized that it was unfair for people who did musicals their whole lives. Their logic is that it does not make sense that all kinds of awards, almost impossible to receive even after doing musicals the whole life, were given to Kim Junsu who debuted only a couple of years ago.
If [an actor] has no talent and skills and still receives an award, he deserves criticism. The fact that these awards that even musical actors with long careers cannot receive were awarded to Kim Junsu means that he has that much of talent and he does his best.
What is even more interesting and meaningful than Kim Junsu receiving awards is this “donation culture”. His fans are also part of it. By donating all the gifts that poured in from all over the world for his solo concerts and musicals, he showed his quality as a star that acts together with his fans.
Rice wreaths that his fans sent Kim Junsu were sent to the underprivileged such as children who cannot afford to bring lunch to school. 2,000 briquettes that 20 families can use for one month were sent to underprivileged senior citizens who live by themselves that use briquettes but cannot afford to buy them. 6,000 egg wreaths were donated to food banks nationwide to relieve malnutrition problems among the underprivileged such as children who live by themselves without parents and senior citizens who live by themselves.
It is a beautiful thing that a star and fans come together to share what they have with their neighbors in need of help. Kim Junsu was recognized as a talented musical actor. Kim Junsu proved his top worth through awards that celebrate ticket power. Kim Junsu is a true star with both talent and skills.
And his fans that make their star even more special by actively participating in charity work makes everyone around them happy. Kim Junsu and his fans’ charity work feels even more amazing than Kim Junsu becoming a double award winner. And maybe it is because Kim Junsu and his fans seem to have beautiful souls that help the less fortunate neighbors around them.

I had heard rumors about him getting flack from some seasoned actors for receiving this award.
While I think Junsu well-deserved it, IMO the way the whole SK entertainment industry conducts their polling and hands out these awards, in categories that are hard to understand sometimes, is an issue the entire industry needs to clarify better rather than people/netizens dissing on the recipients.
i don’t think jyj has ever received an award (non fan-voted) that they didn’t truly deserve. especially with (because of?) the blacklisting shenanigans.
it’s too bad ppl still see IDOL before ARTIST when they look at junsu – if he wasn’t in a “boy band” he probably wouldn’t have been criticised as harshly. jyj is the most independent, competent and talented boy band i’ve ever seen tho. richest too, hahahaha
criticism is always present and welcoming (to an extent), we cant do anything about it but lets put it in a positive way or another chance to prove to other people why he deserved all these awards even if his only “3 years old” in the musical field.
Let the people see again
-how the fans of JYJ Kim Junsu is love and recognize through popularity polls and ticketing power and
-how Kim Junsu gained the appreciations and praises from people who met him these 3 years as a musical actor with genuine talent, great personality and hard works.^^
its simple to me. junsu is so much more than a mere idol who stepped in to use his popularity. he truly loves performing and loves music and was there to BE a musical actor and challenge himself. and he did. he IS that good and he deserves the awards he wins. he IS music and we love him for it!
“The fact that these awards that even musical actors with long careers cannot receive were awarded to Kim Junsu means that he has that much of talent and he does his best.”
Way to go Junsu!
BEYOND amazing, indeed. Need we say more?
” Their logic is that it does not make sense that all kinds of awards, almost impossible to receive even after doing musicals the whole life, were given to Kim Junsu who debuted only a couple of years ago.”
Their logic is illogical. The judges based their scores on one specific entry only, it could be an actor’s first and only stage but what if he gets the highest total score from among the actors on those entries, the longevity of his acting doesn’t matter. It can happen that a certified great actor will lose because his current entry is weak and doesn’t showcase the best of his acting ability. Junsu maybe new but has given justice to his role and has the most striking performance among all the entries. But I think it’s normal to all winners, even Yoochun has a share of that criticisms too,( but at least CJes is not that rich to buy awards, so they can’t say it’s bought, lol )

I remember back in 2010 after Junsu finished his 1st musical Mozart with an explosive response. Most of them were positive, some of them were negative, esp for his still rather poor ability to sing in low and high notes. He was compared to other Mozart who didn’t use falsetto. But he got praises for emotional and amazing acting, then he was awarded Best newcomer in June 2010.
I read somewhere that EMK was almost bankrupt for not producing good musicals that sells. EMK took a risk with Mozart coz of high cost production. But if EMK was successfull with Mozart, Levay would allow EMK to do Elisabeth. EMK yes thought of Junsu was just an idol with ticket power. Their statement was like more or less,”we knew it would sell well, but didn’t think it would be this successfull”. So Junsu sort of saved EMK from bankcupcy.
To celebrate that, EMK held a musical concert in the name of Junsu and Levay in 2010 (Kim Junsu Musical Concert ; Levay and friends). That concert was critised and the seniors in musical were jealous because Junsu was a newbie, and got conducted by Levay.
Park Euntae in an interview was asked about idol joining musical (Junsu). He said calmly and wisely that it’s understandable for idol popularity, especially someone like Junsu who has already a big name from TVXQ. He was a Cassie, so meeting Junsu was like a dream that the very person was in front of him and they worked together. I saw a picture of Park Euntae sort of giving lecture, and invited Junsu as a guest speaker too. I wonder why there’s no news about it. But it means Euntae appreciate Junsu’s talent, not merely as idol. Junsu also mentioned Euntae hyung as his mentor in his award speech.
Joeng Soenah who acted with Junsu as Constantine was also sceptical with Junsu at first. Junsu never joined the practice because he was still active in Japan. “Who is this guy? Looks like we have to help him bla bla”. She was furious because Junsu didn’t join the studio practice. Junsu joined the stage practice only 15 days before 1st performance, staff and actors were anxious. Surprisingly, Junsu had the most minimum mistake among other Mozart actors (his seniors). He remembered all the songs and act, even interpret Mozart with his own style. That changed their perception on him. Joeng Soenah and Shin Yeongsuk (senior musical who came to Lotte Fanmeeting as JS’s friend) became Xiahpwas since then.

Thanks for sharing this detailed accounts.
This concept of longevity or seniority is already outdated even in employees promotion in companies. Nowadays, even if you’re newly hired but if the management has seen great potentials in you, they send you to special trainings and crash courses, if you pass the evaluation tests, then you’re given a high position, bypassing all those veteran employees aiming of such position. I think this is what’s happening to Junsu, he passed the standards of the judges, topping the veterans so he got the Best Actor Award.
i curious about the critics on Junsu’s musical…..where do u find the sources?
He’s Sylvester Levay’s favourite protege. Levay flew to Korea in 2010 to do a special musical concert for Junsu and wrote a song for him. Then in 2012, Levay postponed his flight to see Junsu’s Elisabeth 1st performance. Levay was very satisfied and said Junsu’s Tod was perfect.
If someone as great as Levay in the musical world could appreciate Junsu as musical gem, SK should be able to appreciate him more. Junsu deserves those the most.
Boy, that article is so heavy…who wrote it? I should thank her/him.
i remember he stood up and shout “BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!” to Junsu during one of the performances ^^
Junsu has shown his abilities again and again, on the musical and concert stages. His award for Best Male Lead in a Musical(Elisabeth) was voted by Musical industry peers; not fan-voted popularity; that speaks volumes about his worth as a musical actor….and he’s young yet and will only get better 😀
This was such an wonderful and awesome article!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I have to say is Junsu is an extremely talented and amazing artist!!!!!!!! Junsu is the real deal an artist and not one of those idols that only rely on just their looks to get by. He has real talent and he works so hard to give his best every time. He deserved these two awards because he earned them. Matter of fact he deserves all the awards he has earned through talent and hard work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think junsu deserved it. his talent, effort, etc make him receive that award.
Reblogged this on Fazzienaz's Journal.
