Boy-band JYJ’s Kim Junsu shared his thoughts on the use of the title XIA for his first solo album, expressing that he sees XIA as his name. On the morning of the 16th, XIA held a press conference for his first album ‘XIA – Tarantallegra’ at Seoul Sogong-dong’s Lotte Hotel.
Kim Junsu revealed, “The name ‘XIA’ is something that Jaejoong-hyung and I came up with. Jaejoong-hyung and Yoochun didn’t really like their old names, but I liked mine”, and added that “Although I am JYJ’s Junsu, but when as a solo artist, I feel that the name XIA goes best with my identity. I feel that this word alone contains everything about who I am.”
He continued, “When I do musical activities, I use my real name (Kim Junsu), but rather than because I am trying to cover the name XIA intentionally, it’s because using XIA instead of my real name when doing musicals is a bit strange. Similarly, when the other members do their dramas, it would be funny for them to use their stage names, so they use their real names too right? I have never excluded this name (XIA) so that people wouldn’t call me by that name.”
Kim Junsu also added, “Whether they use XIA or Junsu, overseas fans address me by various different names, including XIA Junsu, Kim Junsu, Junsu, XIA. Because I am XIA, I feel that it’s only natural that I release the album under the name XIA.”
He also revealed, “I have never changed my signature once since debut. I still write ‘Xiah’,” and “I never doubted my choice of using the name XIA. To the extent that I’m surprised that there are even questions as to why I am using the name XIA,” attracting attention to this.
Meanwhile, Kim Junsu has revealed his first solo album on the 15th, and will hold his concerts at Jamsil Indoor Stadium on the coming 19th and 20th.

And Xia[h] of course…which is why I named myself shhh…
It’s interesting to hear Junsu saying that Jaejoong & Chunnie didn’t like their old names of Hero & Micky. I wonder just how much SM scripted for them to say, right down to their names…
actually Jae said several times (2-3 times?) that he was kinda embarrased using YoungWoong as in hero as a stage name.. well, i think anyone would be embarrased to be called as a hero, since hero is such a huge tittle (eventho we think he fitted the name). and YoungWoong was a stage name not made by him, but founded by LSM, so maybe he didnt really felt it as his own =)
as for me, i like his real name, Kim JaeJoong the best, i like the sound of Jae or JJ =)
abt Micky, we all know it wasnt his stage name only, but his real name he used in USA since he moved there as a kid, and it was bcoz he loved Mickey Mouse. but maybe a grown man would be felt a litte shy to be called as a Disney character =) but i think maybe Chun was just kinda shy abt the connection of his Micky to the Mickey Mouse, but not really dislike it very much, since he used it as his twitter name =)
i thought once jaejoong said he visited some fortune teller and she told him to choose the stage name hero because it would bring him success or something lol
Nope. That’s not true. It was given by LSM.
Or maybe that fortune teller was LSM and when Jae used that name, LSM himself became successful as he sucked all the money from the boys! XD

No matter what names our Junsu uses, he’ll always have the success he wants, name it’s just a name and doesn’t have to do with his talent. I just love how comfortable he answers on this ridiculous question why he uses Xia if everyone knows him by that name too. Junsu fighting!
i told everyone the is no legal issue regarding the name Xiah and Xia sound the same , and he has rights to it and so do JYJ even rights to TVXQ uses just like the court said they could , but the reason of spelling Xia is economical done by C-jes so Xia products don’t get mixed online with Xiah sme products and Junsu doesn’t gain any profit from sme on Xiah sme products. so to avoid mix up to those who don’t know sme using Junsu’s stage name , they wrote it Xia . it was never about legal issue and Junsu may not know about the proper spelling but i am sure someone in c-jes wanted to avoid mixup between Xiah C-jes and Xiah sme , so they wrote it Xia C-jes to avoid mix up i find it smart move economically. Junsu doesn’t gain any profits from Xiah sme products not a single dime the same with the other two but the other two don’t like to use their stage name but don’t mean they can’t they so can just like Junsu can cause the court said they can.
I think Xia/Xiah is a very cool sounding name, and I’m glad he likes it too and has decided to continue using it 🙂
I wish him all the best and I hope he get’s a huge return from the sales of his album Xiah to make up for all the money they spend for us (the international fans) on making the tarantallegra MV.

Kim Junsu Releases His 1st Solo Album “A Sense of Responsibility, Excitement, and Anticipation”
Q and A with Kim Junsu.
Q. How do you feel about releasing your first solo album?
A. First, I released an album with the name XIA. Making the album was difficult for me because it was first solo album in 8 years. Most of all, it is fairly burdonsome to fill every track only with my voice. Yet, it was apleasure to sing music genres that I hoped to do. Not a sigle day has passed without pressure and concerns but, on the other hand, everyday my heart flutters because of my anticipated album.
Q. Did you do anything to keep in shape?
A. I’ve kept my body in shape not because of the solo album but because of the musical Elizabeth. I lost 6kg. The idea of releasing a solo album came out during dialogue with my agency. I lost my weight for the musical. Previously, I thoutht if a song is good, that’s enough, but that might not be right. I didn’t expect to bare my body so that I didn’t do anything special to keep in shape. The original concept was to lightly bare parts of the upper body by unfastening some buttons. Yet, during monitoring, I felt so hot that I unfastened every button. The director, then, suggested me to go that way. I thought it was not bad and did that way.
Q. Your Japanese solo single was XIAH but now it is XIA. Why?
A. There’s no particular reason. Ending with the letter A gave me a sense of conclusion. And considering the nuance, I thought XIA is better.
Q. Did you feel some pressure from the album?
A. Of course, it was pleasure making the album. And surely it was also stressful. I thought deeply over and over. This is my first solo, and, the first step among JYJ members. I know I should step off on the right foot.
Q. Please, introduce your title song Tarantallegra.
A. It is also difficult for me to pronounce “Tarantallegra.” It is partly in line with the spell “Abracatabra.” “Tarantallegra” is a magic making people do quick dance. Music, fashion and everything can be integrated into one music. It has been 8 years since my debut, I thought I must not do the established music. Thus, I tried to make differences, added streaming to dance music, and used the timpani under the influence of the musical plays.
Q. Please, introduce your album.
A. It includes 12 tracks. Among them, 80 percent are which I composed. So, it was somewhat burdensome. Yet, I tried to pursue diversity and music genres that I hoped to sing. And, at this time, I did collaboraton works. My agency fully supported me, and I worked with GaeKo, flowsik, and bizzy.
Q. How do you feel about touring seven Asian coutries?
A. It’s my first solo concert. Indeed, I experienced lots of concerts but I’ve never performed in full two hours by myself, so I need to adapt to that. One of my concern is whether I could lead two-hour concert with moving the audience. Other is keeping balanced pace. I’m preparing for the concert and feeling it is hard. But I’m also looking forward to the concert. I hope to show a Xiahtic concert. Asian solo tour gives me tension and I’m doing my best.
Q. What is the meaning of the musical to you?
A. With being as a singer, I will participate into the musical. The musical is attractive in point that I can live other’s life. And the muscial inspires my music.
Q. The 4th track was composed and directed by Kim Jaejung.
A. He was very busy but made time to direct it. We’ve been directing each other’s songs so (long) that it is familiar. The song became better through the combination of my and his ideas. I was more nervous when Jaejung directed because he is a member of JYJ.
Q. Do you prepare any performance especially targeting each Asian country you will tour?
A. There aren’t big differences between performances at home and abroad. I plan to learn the language of each country and to use that amid the concert.
Q. Which country was the most passionate when JYJ did its 1st world tour?
A. Every country was passionate and enthusiastic. Especially, Latin America. It was surprising for us that they know and enjoy our music.
Q. Despite few, if any, chances of appearing on TV, you are popular. What do you think the reason is?
A. Despite few chances of appearing on TV, I think, I have many routes to promote my songs via the Internet. It was very costly to film the current music video. If I had considered the Korean music field alone, it have been impossible. Because I thought the MV could spread all over the world via the Internet it was possible for me to film such costly MV.
Q. The reason of using XIA in your solo album.
A. XIA, XIAH JUNSU, KIM JUNSU. All are okay to me. The reason I used XIA is that it is my solo (music) album.
In case of the musical or drama, the original name Junsu may be good (best). (considering Korea’s custom – in traslator’s thought)

also this ” I was more nervous when Jaejung directed because he is a member of JYJ. ” oh my God so cute he is shy in front of his hyung this is really adorable and u can feel how Jaejoong does play the role of older brother not first time but i feel it is more clear from behind scenes than in front of camera , like once hayatto said Junsu was lying on sofa and started saying don’t leave me i don’t want to be alone and Jaejoong went to Junsu and hugged him , it was an old article but i always keep this in my heart , there is much care towards Junsu from Jaejoong that not evident clearly on camera but when u capture conversations u can sense this.
i love the part where he said in musicals he gets to live another person’s life , and this so explains the magician in the MV i think the MV can be viwed through pure entertainment , a music magician casting a spell song that gets everyone dancing “the back dancers could be sexless being like the the magician and they do his bidding obeying his evry command , and the magician comes in different forms according to different ages like old time modern or background like where this magician lives during different ages.

to be honest, for me xiah is really the best nickname out of the members , junsu is the only one I mention his nick name so much like Xiah Xiahti, XIAzart ,XIAJoon XIATod, XIA12, and now XIALLEGRA… I mean it’s cool and so light for the tongue
I rarely mention Micky for yoochun, but somehow when I see MiCky mouse he does come to my mind XD but most of the time I say Chuni or Park
and I’ve never mentioned jaejoongie by his nickname even when he was a tvxq!!! I still fell weird when I hear youngwoung (which is heavy to pronounce) or hero I mean Jaejoong should be just jaejoong a unique name as his owner XD
I have always loved the nick xiah, and I totally adore micky’s nick as well… but since Yoochunnie does not like to called that, I don’t understand why the web and even TV stations like to call him that. Even for RTP, when promoting in my country, they used ‘micky’. o.O Idk.
Whatever it is, xia or xiah is said and spelled the same, so shouldn’t make a big deal out of it.

Xiah is a realy good name, srsly, i dont usually use it to name Junsu but i use it alot with other words xDD even with my name LOL is very creative and it has a very strong presence…good choice Junsu, Xiah is a powerfull name, and if u like it, then its a lot better n.n

Junsu gave a very strong interview here. He got his point across and answered calmly with sincerity. He didn’t allow the name thing to become a major issue. I also like how he shows his respect for Jae as his Hyung~that touches me; which is one major reason I care for JYJ, because of the love and respect they always show each other; even when teasing each other 😀
If Junsu uses Xiah to advertise or make some profits (such as name of album / do concert under the name) SM will sue him for sure. Because Xiah is under SM’s copyright.
