JYJ‘s Kim Jaejoong who recently wrapped up his latest MBC drama series ‘Dr. Jin‘ drew a peculiar expression on his face as he talked about the series and his role.
“It’s bittersweet,” he began. “When we were shooting, it was so hard because I couldn’t even sleep but now that it’s over, it feels strange. I feel like I should still be going out to the set.”
The idol group member has only been in two other projects (Japanese drama ‘Dishonest‘ and SBS‘ ‘Protect the Boss), and so many were concerned about Jaejoong being cast in ‘Dr.Jin’.
“I honestly don’t know how I ended up in a historical drama,” he said. “Even while I was filming, I said, why is the second project I am in a historical one? My seniors told me it would be a difficult challenge, but that it would also be better for me to get the hard things out of the way (laughs). I also thought that I would now be able to easily and efficiently pull off my next project.”
Jaejoong who personally calls himself a ‘white board’ is like a sponge that soaks in everything he learns. “I didn’t have time to prepare separately after I received the script. All I could do was really focus on set. I didn’t receive any special training, I just learned from the teamwork and chemistry with my seniors.”
His greatest source of strength was Kim Eung Soo who played the role of Jaejoong’s father Kim Byung Hee in the script. The scene where Kim Byung Hee took his own life in the arms of Kim Kyung Tak (Jaejoong), a concubine’s son treated with contempt, was a heartbreaking scene for both the viewers and Kim Jaejoong himself.
Ahead of becoming an actor, Jaejoong was already a top idol celebrity. There are endless opportunities for growth that await the ‘musician’ Jaejoong, but because he has already been at the summit of fame and success, he had to embrace much pressure and burdens as he took on his new label, ‘actor’.
“When you get into acting after building some fame as a singer, my acting skills are going to inevitably fall short of the expectations people have of me,” Jaejoong said. “So I was pretty concerned. This isn’t something I started with a lot of confidence, but as of now, I’m extremely satisfied that I was able to come across such an amazing project.”
Through ‘Dr. Jin’, the singer was able to forget ‘Kim Jaejoong’ and become completely born again as Kim Kyung Tak. ‘Dr. Jin’ may have come to a close, but Jaejoong’s gaze in the drama that displayed his heartbreaking sorrow, and his passion for acting will forever be buried in the hearts of viewers. Even while filming under the scorching heat, Jaejoong was able to display amazing focus. All these things were new challenges for Jaejoong.
“Whenever I start something new, I get scared and nervous,” Jaejoong continued. “But I like that fear. The bliss and enjoyment that come with trying new things is pretty amazing. I want to try a theatrical piece next time, and since I did a historical drama, maybe something of a different genre.”
Though it is your first time doing historical drama …you nailed it Jae .. and you are great. I am proud of you. You are a man with such determination that nothing can stop you doing what you like doing and you did it with such passion. Your determination and spirit become my motivation and I love you for that.
Do whatever you want JJ. Now, on to the musicals fort…
Endless love & support…
jj want always do things new!
Wow! I just went and checked out the comments on AllKPop! They are all almost 100% great, flattering, full of praise, love, etc, etc! Looks like yet more evidence that AKP is becoming more and more JYJ friendly. Yay!

“The bliss and enjoyment that come with trying new things is pretty amazing.”
But please keep the Kim Jaejoong “the musician and the singer” at top, you’re voice and your singing are such world’s wonders that I’m sure millions of people love to hear.
Kim JaeJoong, my respect for you is growing a by the second. Yes, go ahead try different genres and characters, don’t let yourself be typecast. It’s not always about getting billions at the box office and high ratings ( even those are great to achieve), it’s about growing as an individual and in your craft. There are many American actors who are amazing, but typecast, and there are many great actors who are amazing in independent movies. One doesn’t have to be mainstream “to make it”, but one who loves the craft will challenge him/herself in many areas/genres/charactes/projects, and those are who I take my hat off to…and includes you Kim JaeJoong.
OK…I am pretending to be Jaejoong’s manager. I would say more movies (with English subtitles, please), a solo album along with a new JYJ album, a CALENDAR with ALL JAEJOONG POSES (I guarantee it will sell sell out with more pre-orders flooding in–especially from Asian countries, more specifically KOREA and JAPAN), performance in a play. Intense English lessons for all JYJ members. By the way, Jaejoong, when are you going to visit those village people who worship you as a GODDESS?? The poor village people are waiting. What will they say when they find out that you are actually a MAN? Would you please send a film crew to record this amazing event when you decide to visit the village and include total explanation of this incredible event.
I like what you saying here, yup, get on to it, Kim JaeJoong and JYJ. 🙂
If I’m Jae’s talent manager, my #1 project for him is Kim Jaejoong solo album, no need of promotion, just include that CALENDAR (preferably wall calendar) with ALL JAEJOONG POSES in the package 😀 😀 😀 , movies (with English subtitles, please) to be released in international theaters, maybe I’ll watch it everyday, JYJ album, dramas, musical is great but I’m not so excited about it since I couldn’t watch the performance. Just the first 2, they I’ll be a super rich manager (of course Jae will give me a lot of cash bonus and a car 🙂 )
I would like to see Jaejoong acting in comedy drama. He said that Yoochun is funny but Junsu is funnier. I think he’s the funniest…hehe (just finished watching Dr.jin’s NGs) XD
Oh Jaejoong if a theatrical play is your next project then a quick visit to Seoul is a dream to fulfill to many Jaejoong international fans. Better start saving money…
JJ, you are a great actor and you have show your hidden talent and skills through Dr.Jin. Just like YooChun, he is such a brilliant actor since he started with Sungkyunkwan Scandal. Even Junsu shown through as a stage musical actor. Our JYJ boys are multi-talented, genius, plenty of oozing charisma, brave and most of all, very very hard-working and always take on new challenges. They have broken so many barriers and made South Korea proud of them. Nothing is impossible if you put your heart and mind into it. Always Keep The Faith! Fighting !
Jaejoong you are a real challenger, by conquering tough tasks you discover more of your strength.
Just like Mountaineers, Ocean racing etc. Team work is all you fond of.
However, to make your career sustainable, commend you go beyond acting field, establish a system to thrive more in your industry.
( eg some Asia top actors side business is establishing PS service for all movies, big biz,
and the success story now become the EMBA course tutorial case in Asia Top #1 University – HK University of Science & Technology )
S. Korea economy has become gloomy, recently critics observes movies & dramas are back to 1980s alike.
– Movies contains tons of porn , violence, crime, pervert… no matter it is historical or modern ones ;
– TV drama mostly about extra- marital relationship, this is a social economic phenomenon , and high market demand.
The upcoming cycle of filming, may not as pure simple as it is now.
Best blessing to you.
Ahem, producers of theatrical pieces, here’s your cue.
I admire Jaejoong for not being so quickly satisfied with what he’s got. He never stops challenging himself with new things, unlocking achievements one by one, despite all the skepticism he may have received. An entertainer or artist has to constantly improve and renew himself in order not to become boring in the eyes of his followers. Whichever project he chooses to do next, he has my complete faith and support. Even with a sloppy drama like Dr. Jin, Jae could still manage to shine and make his character very memorable. I believe he can do anything once he puts all his mind and efforts into it. 🙂
