SM “needs” to be monitored! I am being realistic. How effective is the Korea Fair Trade Commission?
SM will never stop bothering JYJ, we should be realistic about it, but at least people are doing something in Korea now, that willñ give them the chance to have appearances on tv now, maybe? hopefully.
SM will always be Suspect Number ONE if JYJ’s activities, TV appearances, etc. continue to be blocked. The KFTC clearly states that they are aware that SM’s continued illegal activities are “likely.” They know all too well what and whom they are dealing with. If SM doesn’t desist then they will ratchet up their next action accordingly to the next level of punitive action. The investigation has been done. SM were caught red-handed, there’s no further investigation needed. Now they simply “oversee” compliance. And remember, every single time this sort of action by the KFTC happens, there is a huge slew of bad publicity for SM. The company who loudly proclaimed that JYJ was going to be morally damaging to the public and the economic furtherance of the Hallyu Wave and thus they needed public punishment, shunning and censure has now shown itself to have engaged in a concerted 3 year long unfair, under-handed series of influence peddling with 26 different music related media and businesses (!) to cut off JYJ’s legally won right to pursue their careers. This news is being highly publicised in S. Korea. I’m kind of wondering what SM will do to recover, quite frankly. This is a P.R. nightmare for them.
Part of me thinks they’ll NEVER stop with this insane vendetta but another equally strong part of me says they HAVE to realize all this bad publicity is killing them, killing their image and that further action that would then also be exposed might actually be up into the suicidal range of corporate malfeasance. That’s my hope anyway. And I hope their stockholders will have a thing or two to say about this latest development.
is it really big news in korea? i was [briefly] checking the reaction at AKP (can’t stay there too long or your soul is forfeit) and it looks like this news is overshadowing f(x)’s comeback news and that makes me laugh because usually that’s what they do to JYJ.
ghostitos,
“can’t stay there too long or your soul is forfeit”
You are too funny, I can’t stop laughing, I just love what you wrote, it’s so true 🙂
lol i am unfortunately speaking from personal experience. i thought it would be ok to hang around AKP, NB etc… nope. poor life choice.
@ ghostitos
It’s not big news to Korea because not many people know about JYJ. JYJ is faceless in Korea. Most people who support JYJ in Korea are those that supported them during their TVXQ days, and some of their support are fading away as new boy bands come out (No one remembers the boy band, JTL!!). The blacklisting really took a toll of JYJ’s popularity in the past four years.
JTL! i wasn’t around [kpop] for them but i looked them up after. sad that they faded into obscurity so fast..
@ ghostitos
It would be a good idea if we start publicizing and linking the connection between JTL and JYJ since JTL and JYJ broke away from HOT and TVXQ, respectively, the most popular boy band during their times. This way, more people will know SM’s true character. JTL and JYJ both asserted unfair contracts and were blacklisted soon afterwards. I won’t be surprised if SM blacklisted another boy band within the next ten years. SM blacklisted Hang Geng; but, since he is not Korean, so he doesn’t care about returning to Korea.
Are you sure they are not popular in Korea? Most koreans who asked me who’s my favorite k-pop group were shocked when I said “I love JYJ”. Some of them gave me a gift because i like JYJ. Besides that, you can see JYJ faces all around Seoul because most cd shops put their poster/postcards at the front….
@chichichunnie JYJ are pretty faceless. ee3451 is right. You can’t really see JYJ “all around” Seoul. They (and other kpop groups) are displayed mostly in Myeongdong stores to attract Japanese and other “k-pop” tourists. As for them modeling for NII, Tony Moly, etc… nearly every single store and product in Korea has an actor or idol singer modeling for them. So while doing it ~kind of~ gets JYJ’s faces out there, a gazillion other people’s faces are out there in the same way, so they are just a few drops in a flood of celebrity faces on products, many of whom the average person may not even recognize. And of course they are displayed in CD stores … so is everyone else. But overall, JYJ’s visibility is very, very low.
The blacklist and other factors have, as ee3451 said, taken their toll. (I’ve said many times how C-jes’ crap has driven a lot of people away T_T)
@ghostitos
” i was [briefly] checking the reaction at AKP (can’t stay there too long or your soul is forfeit) ”
lolol Yes, I appreciate your caution and rectitude re: AKP. My own sentiments exactly. My rule is the minute I read personal slams against a poster for what is basically merely an opposing view, I beat it. 🙂 Since I’m sitting here in L.A., the other side of the known world from the epicenter of the action, it’s a bit tough for me to comment on wazzup in SK. What I WANT of course is for the news to spread far and wide. I want the P.R. fallout from this to land SM into some Deep Doo-Doo as far as their stock is concerned. That would be helpful – that seems to get through to them.
SM has now sallied forth with the expected level of bullshit bluster but who knows what’s going on in the corporate offices tonight? If they’re SMART, they’ll give up. If they’re freakin’ insane maniacs, they’ll run their company off into the ditch. The top dogs so invested in ruining JYJ will take the whole poisonous mess of a company down with them. Now THAT would be a sight to see.
i don’t feel that SM are above chasing JYJ to the ends of the earth for the rest of time. there have been so many times where they could have saved face and stepped down but whateva whateva, SM does what SM wants.
they’ve proven that basically they can get away with anything now (SNSD IGAB, exo in general, blaming profit loss on TVXQ concerts etc) because they have company stans (omg why) and the sheer size of their fan bases guarantees that even a “flop” is a pass.
their sketchy stock market position is giving me a bit of hope, tho.
“can’t stay there too long or your soul is forfeit”
I can’t stop laughing, that is such a apt description.
Ah allkpop that inequitous den of misery, home of wretched miserable trolls. No one must never go there, I’m sure it is one of the circles of hell
it is worse every time i go.
they are just waiting on official confirmation of what circle it is.
Yep, bad publicity bad for their images and can tarnish their idols just by association. SM should stop while they are ahead. They’ve got some talented singers, worry about them and leave JYJ alone.
The thing is … this isn’t really getting them bad publicity in Korea. Are you talking to regular non-hardcore-JYJ fans in Korea who are saying otherwise? Is there evidence of SM encountering damage? They haven’t even had to pay a single damn won in fines for all this. Their image is fine, because people expect them to be dirty anyway, just like every other company in Korea. Their stockholders don’t care (or maybe they’re manipulating their stock prices again). The general public doesn’t care. This has been going on for 4 long years now. In the beginning it was shocking. If there was damage to be done, it would have happened then. Koreans were freaked out. But since then a gazillion other (seemingly?) successful Hallyu artists have come along and so no Korea’s place in the world is safe. The industry here is so corrupt, everything is so plastic and fake, that people just don’t even get very bothered by it. Korea is a society of escapism.
And internationally, I think the only people that care are JYJ fans. And other fans may care on a idealistic sort of level, but it doesn’t stop them from consuming SM’s goods or going to their overseas events. Have you encountered anyone outside JYJ fandom who has dumped SM over the the JYJ debacle? 😦
@jyj fan in korea
Hi, I appreciate your perspective, I do. (And yes, I have many friends in every walk of life, they are not all JYJ fans!) 🙂 I’ve long wondered about many of the things you mention above. I especially related to your saying “Korea is a society of escapism.” But I’m also aware that SM has had a continued massive loss in reported profits in the last year or so. Their stock hit a new all-time low a few weeks ago. That’s taking a major hit in the stability of the company any way you look at it. The last time SM under-reported projected earnings by half and their stock plummeted, they settled the lawsuit with JYJ. It’s not correct to say they don’t care about what their stockholders think. It makes me sad that if true, Koreans don’t appreciate JYJ because they have “problems” and are being scapegoated by a monolith of greed & corruption like SM – that says something not very nice about Koreans, I’m afraid. But I’m an international fan, concerned with growing the international fandom and being the strong safety net for JYJ. And remember – they have been doing well – my God they have all become millionaires in 3 years! That’s not something you do when you’re invisible to the world.
Let’s try to stay positive and do our best to shake, rattle and roll JYJ back into the spotlight in their homeland. Let’s do it simply because it’s important to THEM.
what does this mean?
little bit of hope, lastly but as ee all know that SM will not remain silent even after this.I think jyj is being too kind to SM and others rivals. They should claim for damages caused. I know they don’t need any such kind of money but this could be a verdict to future generations.
@srejil
Well, easy for us to say but it would probably cost as much in legal fees as they would ever hope to recover. One does not enter into high profile lawsuits lightly. They are mentally exhausting and expensive. JYJ doesn’t want to further antagonize SM, that much is clear. They just want the ban lifted. They are allowing the KFTC to be the Heavy here. I think they are wise.
Now sm deny the allegations and plan to pursue legal action toward FTC saying that sm never block JYJ.
I swear this sm company needs to be bury 6 feet under. They would never admit any wrong doing.
@CHUN
Well, of course. This is the SUPREMELY ARROGANT, SELF-ENTITLED SME we are talking about. They seem to be prepared to literally run their company into the ground in pursuit of this insane vendetta. But once again, if the fans hold firm, get the word out, spread the news, our side of it, every which way we can think of, SM will be seriously damaged P.R.-wise. Their company is on shaky ground these days financially anyway. If we can make enough noise to alarm their stockholders… I think we can hit SM where they absolutely LIVE: in the wallet.
Shame on you SME. shame on you to all those who willingly participated in the systematic deprivation of JYJ’s human rights. The ent world may be a glamorous and glossy world, but that will NEVER erase the ugly truth that you have deprived your citizens of their basic rights time and time again, while feigning ignorance, while colluding with one another, while using public taxes to fund your self-serving activities and illogical vendetta for hree men you have already taken away so much from.
A public apology to JYJ is not even enough, they should apologize to all Koreans for putting their country to bad light.
@Jan
Well said. 🙂
Big bully like SM will apologize? Not in our real life… Lee Man Soo of Sm entertainment, has be given Korean Culture Award 2012 by Korean Society during its 55th Anniversary Gala last year. How can that be? It seem that some Korean still honour a person that has been practising monopolistic business with regard to Korean entertainment. Surely they are aware of JYJ issues and SM actions of suppressing any kind of threats for his contracting idols (TVXQ) and the one that refuse to follow the order of the family will be punished like JYJ. Are the judges that nominated the receiver for this kind of award deaf, blind or brain damaged? Is it not a big puzzle why SM control 43% of Korean entertainment market by their bullying act. Korean agency are put to shame when Japanese court sided with JYJ. If people from Japan can see Avex action a hindrance, why cant Korean people see that SM action is a hindrance?? Couple with fans pressure, Korean agency somehow have to act/ are forced to act – to show that they are doing something. I just should laugh at their effort. When the whole world is seeing SM a bully, Korean people go around honouring SM leaders with award. It is the best joke of the year. What does it say about Korean culture or other culture for the matter? It says this ;- law and justice are the hope for ordinary people like me and you and JYJ, but in the end, money and influence rule the world like Lee Man Soo. Yes, we should keep fighting for JYJ not only because what happen to them is unjustified, but because it piss me off when some big bully think they can keep doing anything to small people without people dare to fight back. To JYJ fans let continue our fight!! During my illogical time sometimes, I feel like throwing red paint to SM building outer walls representing their are blood sucking leech. Luckily, those illogical moment are only momentary.. Anyway dont do that.. it is illegal..LOL
@Has has
Courage, my friend. As long as I-fans will NEVER give up, as long as we keep growing in number and in our passion to see justice done, SM will never truly be free of being exposed for their evil deeds. We will continue on, for as long as it takes. If we are willing to see this thing through until the end, we WILL prevail. The whole world will finally take notice of this and SK will no longer be able to harbor this criminal enterprise, SM. We WILL prevail. SK values above all things their national prestige. They fear above all things a scandal that their international facing music business AKA the Hallyu Wave, a major economic export, is run by criminals bent on a vendetta to end the careers of one of SK’s most beloved and well-known music groups, JYJ. All we need do is to continue agitating, continue the pressure, continue getting the word out. A few simple tasks, multiplied by hundreds of thousands of fans. That’s all.
🙂
Has, has

You are so right, the award seems like a complete joke!! And I honestly do wonder about Koreans, how they stand for this nonsense is so puzzling to me, honoring a man who stands for corruption, sabotage, deceit, everything nasty and despicable, how? Is this how they want the world to look upon them, this is their ideal? wow. sad.
Let’s just hope those in power who are now watching SM, will take action and protect their country’s face.
@Ms. Lili, @IjyjNjoy thank you.
@Has has I agree with what you said, it is a joke! Yet, the idealist in me still believes THIS is different this time. Yes SMEnt owns 43% of the industry but not the rest of Korea. Yes they are big on ego-stoking over there but they also value saving face. Positive news like these have streamed in slowly but surely, I would like to believe consolidated efforts are making ripples. History has shown us that anytime, anywhere, even the mighty can fall. So let’s all enjoy the show hehe 😀
@Jan
History has shown us that anytime,anywhere,even the mighty can fall…..love this!
Jan,
A+++ x 1,000,000
if KFTC is really serious about putting a stop to SME’s interference they are are going to have to launch SME into space
because as long as they are on the same planet as JYJ, no dice.
@ghostitos
Yep, they’re going to have to be vigilant about “observing compliance.” There are further measures they can take if they observe no let-up in the ban. It’ll be pretty obvious if JYJ and members are still not invited on TV shows. They already said they know SM is “likely” to abuse their power again. Perhaps the KFTC will have to take the next step, further punitive measures. The KFTC is a stand-up, respected organization, they are a government body. They are there to protect citizens against corporate wrong-doing. SM will at the VERY least take a P.R. hit on this like the impact of a prizefighter’s uppercut to the jaw. Their stock is already in trouble. I’m sure butterfliesarefree will keep us posted in coming days as to further developments there.
🙂
BAF, reporting for duty! Well, the stock has been stabilized around the 35-38K mark. Ups and downs. The correction has not been gigantic. So, who knows what it will look like over time. What I would like to posit is that the KFTC is not the only entity that can be brought into play here. Lili, you know this is like squeezing the issue from both ends.
Yes, this action of the KFTC is going after SM and KFPCAI, brought by the fans. BUT, there is another avenue that can probably be traversed that could have an even bigger impact. That is by local Korean fans going to the Korean Communications Commission – KCC. This group governs the broadcasters. It completely sidesteps SM and cohorts and places the responsibility directly at the feet of the broadcast companies. As we both know, there are provisions in that act that citizens can use to address the unfairness of being denied access to talent they -fans- want to see. No segment of the population is to be discriminated against. Soooooo, why not take it to the people who can really force the stations to do the right thing and bypass the BullS***ers?
I like most am sceptical, but this seems to be different somehow. Even though I am in the states, from all the kpop and Korean websites it seems like this is very big news. It also seems to me (correct me if I’m wrong) that reputation and being shamed is a big deal in Korean society and SM is starting to lose face in all of this.
Of course because they are arrogant A holes they will try to fight back, but I think they are underestimating the publics tolerance for their lies. If they don’t stop, the reputation of thier artist will start to suffer as well. There are limits to what people will tolerate and this evil pursuit of vengeance is just nuts.
As for the trade commission, u have to consider that they don’t want to be made fools of by SM and so I think they will be vigilant about monitoring this situation….I hope!
@Erica
I agree with you. I am nothing if not sceptical as a general rule but lets not confuse SM’s public relations bluster and denial with what is really going on with them behind closed doors. Nobody’s going to convince me that this isn’t a public relations disaster for them. More than just the people here on JYJ3 are going to be thinking back to LSM’s Icon Award a few years back and wondering what the hell he’s actually been playing at. We’ll just have to wait and see how this shakes out. I like BAF’s idea, actually. The KCC appears to be a great next move for international fans…
How effective is KFTC? What about their High Court ruling on the FINE? Till now, with JYJ 2 albums, Junsu 2 solo Albums and Jae Joong 1 solo album, none of them are able to promote in the broadcasting Music show! If it that effective, let Junsu go on to the music show NOW!!!
Otherwise, KFTC & Korea High Court are nothing but BULLSHIT as they are unable to uphold the ruling they implemented!
We must [Witness Follow-UP] The Korean Fair Trade Commission [KFTC} Website, home page, offers a menu were you can vote up the FTC’s sanctions. So far only 182 votes.

Yes, we English speakers need to be lead through how to place a vote for the sanctions on their site.. I can’t see how or where to do it.
I have no idea where to vote.
@meex2
You go to the page, find “Incredible” by Xia and click on the pink video tab to the right of his name. That will take you to the video on Youtube. You must allow the video to play all the way through. That’s your vote. You can vote once a day.
🙂
@meex2
Oops, here’s the page: http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/ent/musiccore/musiclist/
I actually feel more reassured with this tweet. Haha.
We can keep petitioning with a notice until their are clear in roads to abolishing this heinous act against JYJ we could flood the government with petitions as Korea is a country that boast a lot of tourism every year…… Fair trade act comes to mind…
I used to follow Super Junior and SNSD before DBSK splits. After knowing that SMEnt interfered with JYJ activities, I hate SMEnt so much. Therefore, I stopped following Super Junior and SNSD. I know this is not their (Super Junior and SNSD) fault but this is my way of supporting JYJ.
@meex2
I appreciate your comment. It means a lot. It doesn’t make logical sense for fans to support JYJ and SM artists at the same time because supporting SM artists means that the fans support SM’s illicit practices, which contradict the fans’ support for JYJ.
