Will active-duty-dols (T/N: idols who’ll serve their military service) JYJ be able to make a comeback on a broadcasting stage?
On the first day of June, news of JYJ member Park Yuchun’s enlistment reached our ears. This is the second time, following Kim Jaejoong who had enlisted last March 31. According to his agency C-JeS Entertainment, Park Yuchun is enlisting on August 27. There remains time a little less than 3 months before he enlists.
Hereby the member in JYJ who will maintain his social status as a member of society for the time being is only Kim Junsu; who’ll visit audiences with his upcoming musical ‘Death Note’. On this, fans are also vocalizing their regrets. Since the news [about Yuchun’s enlistment] broke out, in the JYJ-related community, saddened voices pouring out constantly. It’s the situation where many fans were saying, “There only remains Junsu now. It’ll be lonely, what am I going to do?”, “Kim Junsu’s musical and solo album are good but I’m sad thinking about losing a JYJ member for a while”, and expressed their sadness.
Meanwhile, there is a reaction that stood out solely among the texts left by fans. It is a mixed question that laments “If all three of them get discharged, can they appear as JYJ on a broadcast?”
Having split from TVXQ earlier in 2012, JYJ(Kim Junsu, Park Yuchun, Kim Jaejoong) released albums consistently, but haven’t appeared on a broadcast since. There were continuously rumors of external pressure, but it is difficult to provide definite evidence about this actually. Their broadcast schedule that merely had been set, falls through again and again; and there were many speculations about it. On this, it is difficult for JYJ to appear on a broadcast, and the fact itself is publicly known even by broadcasts actually. Making an appearance alone on EBS ‘Space Empathy’ last April 30, Kim Junsu had said, “Though I am a singer, I am glad to greet you with this music broadcast after 6 years. It was difficult to make an appearance on a broadcast for reasons unknown during the 6 years,” and expressed his sadness during it.
Last April 14, Assemblywoman Choi Min-hee of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy proposed a revised law to the National Assembly, for a broadcast bill with contents prohibiting actions that block the appearance of an artist without an obvious reason. This law is called the ‘JYJ Bill’ and received responses among many netizens. When he heard this news, Park Yuchun also bared his honest mind, saying, “It feels like things are getting better where I can speak out about it now. We are in a position where we should be more thankful about it since we will be able to work in a better environment,” at SBS drama ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ press conference.
However, although it has been 6 years and their broadcast activities were close to non-existent as singers during the time, JYJ members have consistently established themselves. Kim Junsu had received a lot of love as a solo singer and musical actor, while Park Yuchun and Kim Jaejoong had as actors.
In Park Yuchun’s case, he received favorable reviews in ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’, which is his last work before he enlists; and will be able to leave for his post for a while with much lighter steps. For Kim Junsu, there is high hopes from fans to be expected of him, too, with a work where he’ll show an excellent performance more than ever, up ahead in musical ‘Death Note’ that has performances slated from June 20. In Kim Junsu’s case, it is still not decided about when he will enlist into the army. He is expected to stay active, filling in for the gap of his two members for the time being first.
The projected discharge date for Kim Jaejoong –the first to enlist from JYJ– is December 30, 2016. If he get discharged followed by Park Yuchun and up to Kim Junsu, side by side, they will be ‘active-duty-dols’ JYJ. Can the three members of JYJ stand on a broadcasting stage when they return from the army? It seems fans are also looking forward to it as much as singer JYJ.

no offense but this journalist made a wrong remark. ‘active-duty-dols’ jyj? not all members are active duty.
it means not military active duty, it means active duty like idol group, for now JYJ like group is non active
after Yuchun will be gone only Junsu stays active like solo singer
afer three of them will get discharged from military servise JYJ again will be active duty idol group. but will they be on broadcast?
that is the question
it means military active duty. you can see the note made by the translator. this journalist made an inaccurate sloppy article.
no, it means idols after hiatus for military service (all types of military service)
no, it means idols who’ll serve their military service
yes, all three members off JYJ will serve and “The projected discharge date for Kim Jaejoong –the first to enlist from JYJ– is December 30, 2016. If he get discharged followed by Park Yuchun and up to Kim Junsu, side by side, they will be ‘active-duty-dols’ JYJ.”
yes that is what I understand, anyway this journalist put a wrong remark
yes, but not all member are active-duty.
@Ninsonian yes I agree with you, the writter main point is they’re enlisting.
I think that once you have enlisted in the miltary then you’re already on active-duty and can be called back to military service at anytime. I thnk I read somewhere that for time to time they have to do reserve training since I read Psy did it recently. Maybe that’s their term for being in the reserves.
What you have said is correct, except that, after the 2 mandatory years they then go in the reserve (not active duty) and are called from time to time for what can be called “refresher courses”. Tthey can be recalled to active duty in case of war or emergencies.
and not even a single sentence on jaejoong’s solo album or drama? not the first time though
It didn’t even know that JJ is a solo singer too lol

I think the writer wanted to say positive things about JYJ but didn’t want to become a target for SM backlash so a lot of stuff is not right, not clear or left out. Doesn’t really matter, whenever JYJ has it’s comeback WE WILL BE WAITING!
My take away from this article is how TRULY pathetic it would be, if after serving the country they love so passionately, the members of JYJ were still denied access to broadcast programs TV/radio other than dramas. If this ban continues after this kind of voluntary sacrifice, then South Korea can NEVER dismiss being thought of as totally unethical or morally bankrupt. To appease a petty-minded entity such as SME, after Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu have done their duty, will forever mark this country. It’s bad enough they pay their taxes that help fund government funded stations which don’t allow them on these programs. But to serve their country as all other young men are required to do, receiving no special favors,
at the very least, they should be regarded as the honorable young men that they are. They should be treated this way. Although, it should not take a law to be passed, and who knows how this will turn out, the various programs should open their arms and welcome each and every member of JYJ. Holding a grudge for this length of time only highlights mental instability.
But whether or not JJ, YC, and JS ever appear on any of these programs, it WILL NOT diminish the love and support of JYJ fans! PEACE. ❤
+1
Very well said! ❤
Right !!!! And its also shaming if they allowed them after military because .. Now what .. Cuz I did this U pay me this ? i mean why they never looked at their effort and ignored them all that time and now MAYBE they will consider allowing them !!! In my opinion they suck and scewed with JYJ .. Just losing a very talented gifted 3 young men 😦
Just a thought, but has anyone noticed that JYJ’s last album “Just Us” is pronounced pretty much exactly like the word “Justice?”
This incredibly unfair not to mention illegal ban is NOT going away in the members’ minds, not by a long shot. Expect them to begin lobbying anew when they return from the military. I’m betting on JYJ winning the right to be seen and heard in Korea in the end.
I hope that too 😦 ahhhh JYJ on a varity show would be my dream :(((
@Ashten
I’m not gong to hold my breath on this because I don’t believe the level of corruption has lowered enough to let the light in. The mere fact that competition in the marketplace does not exist in SK is the primary reason for all this nonsense. There is too much incest going on for my money. Too many folks in the same bed if you ask me. If broadcasters were more independent and competitive, like here in the States, it would have a different outcome. But be that as it may, the one thing SM cannot take away from JYJ is their talent. And I am a strong believer that talent will out. In the long run, the guys will be around a lot longer than SM would like.
All active duty??? And not talking about Jaejoong as actor and solo artist?
sloppy article.
Double standard article! Meh 😒😒😒
sloppy article.
not even a month it was revealed that a chinese/korean music show wanted to invite yoochun, but one part has totally rejected the idea (obv it was the korean part which was mbc) , I don’t want to be pessimistic but yoochun has only 2 months before enlistment and they are still blocking him made me think that even after military service the situation will remain the same, I think as long as SM is the most powerful on music/variety show while Cjes has no power on this JYJ can never appear on broadcast even after military service because it seems SM is still bitter about it and the fact that the chinese idols left, SM must be fearing the korean do so too, the only way to scare them is by blocking JYJ. I don’t know but this is how I think. The only thing that can turn the tables is 1) YG/Cjes fusion or 2) JYJ have their own broadcast channel (which is hardly possible).
from the other hand I do agree that the article is poorly written ( it’s not because not all the members are active duty it doesn’t even deserve to be pointed in my opinion, because the idea was that they are enlisting doesn’t make difference if it’s active duty or public service) but what bothers me is that: 1- JYJ was formed in 2010 which means spilt from TVXQ in 2010 not 2012.
2- jaejoong was active as singer as well
3- JYJ didn’t exist JUST in broadcast TV, in reality they are still one of the top and most popular korean bands. let’s not start talking about their album sales, world tours, their huge popularity in japan especially (even after 3 or 4 years ban from doing activities) an JYJ success and popularity worldwide
I think 2012 means not when JYJ was formed, it means when lawsuit was ended, when formal reason for blocking disappeared
it seems writer trying to appear neutral and just to test the waters, it’s two years ahead of JJ and YC discharge and who knows what will happen in that time
You so spoke my mind except… in better words! Thank you!!^^
Especially this line >> “I do agree that the article is poorly written ( it’s not because not all the members are active duty it doesn’t even deserve to be pointed in my opinion, because the idea was that they are enlisting doesn’t make difference if it’s active duty or public service)”
OMG~ MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!
It really puzzles me; does it really make that much of a difference?!! xD
The middle one was born less healthy, what do you want him to do?
But hey, like others, he’s also setting aside 2 years (and high chance will be longer T_T) of his precious time to serve his country. No?
And the “2012” also caught my attention, lol
I’m seldom pessimistic but I’m with you.
I really don’t think anything will change even after another ten years, let alone two years, not until the powerful became less powerful, which is very unlikely, but then miracles do happen, so……
Oh my, I just realized..
in “middle one”, I mean middle one in the name “JYJ” and not middle one in the pic above, lol.. sorry Junchan.
The article was made in good faith but somehow it tries to appear non-confrontational which is almost impossible when it is about JYJ TV ban. I don’t really want to blame the writer since in Korea sometimes editors have a way of making writings disappear.
This writer is trying to make his article cool sensationalizing the broadcast ban, he should just go direct to the point. Hello, who knows what will happen more than three years from now? But he appears so lame and ignorant when he’s trying to write about JYJ members when he can’t lift his mouse to browse about JJ. But it is not the first time, last year Korean fans were so enraged when if I remember it right there were 2 articles/press releases which only summarized JJ’s profile in one sentence, was it ignorance or deliberate omission, maybe the fly on the wall can tell.
and sadly that last year article was from cjes. >.>

Sloppy written article. 😑😑Yes it will be super pathetic that if they come back after military service , serving their most beloved country , they still cant appear on broadcast.. Honestly , SM is just trying to do whatever they can to block JYJ from appearing on broadcast beacuse they think that they are the most powerful and they think that money can resolve anything. SM just wants to scare their celebrities that they are powerful and they should not try their luck to do what JYJ did. SM warns their celebrities not to be close with JYJ and they just want JYJ to suffer forever. All 3 of them are so talented and popular . Jaejoong , Yoochun and Junsu. Yoochun was always in the top for popularity awards and he got so many awards till now. And jaejoong still so popular when he is in military service and junsu for musicals . Lets not mention Solo albums , popularity , fanmeetings , concerts etc. Many overseas variety shows and broadcast programmes want JYJ to appear like etc China Wants Yoochun to appear on a Talk Show before he enlists and KBS actually has this new variety programme like Return Of Superman (if u watch) but its for brothers this time and their main cast is Yoohwan and Yoochun (only after YC comes back from MS) music programmes and variety programmes actually want them bcuz they make ppl feel happier and they are super talented. All their seniors , friends and even the Assembly Woman is starting to take JYJ’s side. The Good Will Always Prevail and they have the FANS Too. As much as i really want JYJ to be able to be on broadcast after MS , I really hope SM will stop doing all this crap and bullshit to JYJ cause its useless and money is precious BTW.
The focus of this article is not Jaejoong. The focus of the article is the group JYJ as regards the continuation of the broadcast ban. The point it makes, the question that it raises is: will JYJ be invited back to broadcast music and variety shows after completing military service. Fans are unhappy, they want to see JYJ on TV and they still have not been able to and certainly won’t while the members are serving in the military. It is a good thing for articles such as this to continue being published so that awareness continues that JYJ is continuing to be unfairly banned. No, it’s not in depth reportage, the writer went to little trouble doing research but the point of the article was to pose the question “Will JYJ be able to be active on broadcast TV again after military service?”
behind poor article, to be honest I was disappointed if I first time found Junsu will take his time till he’ll entry into military (I want JYJ comeback as soon as possible!) however Junsu is doing good work in keeping his name and JYJ going … I hope they will perform in broadcast after their service, but the corruption system in SK is too big (JYJ law was not passed already) TT
just want to inform to jyj3 readers, homin stans are happily striking a misleading informations about each member in the comment section on netizen buzz. http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/jyj-law-fails-to-pass-bill-screening.html
Ignore them. Everything having to do with Homin and their poisonous “netizens-for-hire” is not worth anyone’s time.
